Cool thing about this is that even if you mess up the direction of the bevels, you can just go for a ‘tiled’ look instead of ‘basket weave’ Or at least, that’s what I told myself after I screwed it up lol
I can imagine duct tape would be awful. I once used some packaging tape, and it ripped the back of the leather up pretty bad. Since then, nothing but painters tape for me.
Duct tape isn't good because it leaves a bad glue residue. And mak end up peeling the hide off the back. If it's just a practice peice and if you dont intend on dying the back doesn't really matter. But we use painters tape because of the opposite of duct tape. Very little to no glue residue it's easy to get off.

Beautiful Work!
Excellent explanation.
Can you make a vid of how to tool a belt
Didnyou use the beveler tool to make the outside inside lines?
Did you actually watch the video?
What beveler do you use?
#2 checkered Barry King
What angle is your beveler?
Straight up and down any time you bevel lines it's Straight up and down bubba.
Someone needs a size 4 Barry king beveler....
Why not just do all your inside tooling then the turn it only once to do all your outside tooling. Rather than turning it for each and every square?
The tape on the back, I see you used painters tape. I’m staring at a roll of duct tape, good alternative?
