My father is the first fisherman they go to, Andrew! So strange to see him so young. He often used to talk about this day, and said that both Jennifer and Clarissa were affable and funny when the cameras were off! He did get paid for the fish, too, even though the broadcast makes it look as though they make off without paying 😆

I went all the way to Mevagissey from America, just because of this episode. I was captivated by scenery. And I SAW ANDREW! He was teaching his 20-something son how to fish, in the exact same spot, over 20 years later. I was blown away by the whole experience.
Hi! Me again 🤪 just wondering, does he still sell fish there, or did he just happen to be there on that day, teaching his son to fish? I’m going to Mevagissey next week and want to do exactly what you did 😍

Jennifer says there's, "Nothing better than cream, nothing better than cream!" She goes on to say that cream is "...unctuous and rich..."', and that, "...it collects everything together.'" She was right! Cream provides a tasty and fatty/oily base that is very satisfying in cooking and when serving food. Although cream is rich and has been demonized as not healthy, it actually can curb the appetite because it is so satisfying. God bless Clarissa and Jennifer for their insights and skills they shared in their later years. Jennifer passed away in 1999 when she was 71. Clarissa passed away in 2014 when she was nearly 67. Some say they were sloppy. Some are repulsed by them because they were overweight. I want to look beyond the superficial. I think they were wonderful in spirit, and worked well together, and were very entertaining, and very intelligent, and lovely ladies of a former generation. Why I didn't appreciate them in the late 1990's when they were on TV I don't know, but I surely appreciate them now when I view old episodes posted by kind RUclipsrs. -Tom
Thank God for reruns. My wife and I just love these two ladies. We are a young couple and it is so pure and innocent in their cooking. Even some times they add some spicey humor. God bless them both. They live on film forever.
I was first introduced to the 2 Fat Ladies while (ironically) studying Culinary Arts at Job Corps. I was doing book work and saw the first four vhs tapes (it was 2005) and since I was the only one in the room and was bored I thought I’d watch the first tape and loved it and loved them. These 2 ladies are funny and entertaining. Now I have the complete series on DVD and watch them all the time. R.I.P Jennifer and Clarissa
I am glad to see that I'm not alone in my love for these two ladies. I used to watch them on television and, as a child growing up in the inner-city, I was not only unfamiliar with many of the ingredients they used but the locations they filmed in as well. This didn't put me off. I felt as though I was getting a culinary/history/geography lesson all rolled into one when I watched this show. As others have stated, their banter and their mannerisms harken back to a different time, a different generation. Even with that, they still managed to be naughty and a bit lecherous in their own way, which I loved. I think my favorite part of each episode is when they are sharing a drink and a chat at the end. They were like two old shoes--with their pithy sayings and their old-world sensibilities. I wish they were still alive.
I guess I should have realized that they had both passed on by now. I am so sorry to hear of it regardless! I don’t remember when they were on television in the United States, probably the early’90s? But we planned our evening around watching them, and ALWAYS recorded the shows on our VCR. My late Wife and our two Sons made many of their meals and still do! Tonight I made “Bubbles and Squeak” and my Youngest Son and his two children enjoyed our reminiscing about the show. May God Rest their Blessed Souls!
David LoganSr Hello. I just found out today that both of these special ladies had passed away and was saddened. Especially that one of the ladies passed away during filming season 4, so that the show ended. I am in the U.S., and I looked forward to watching their shows each week, and remember them making bubbles and squeak! Their shows were full of fun comedic banter, interesting recipes, stories, and the journeys and places they cooked, and the guests for whom they served delicious meals. Indeed a unique show. I’m so thankful that their programs are being shared here on youtube.
@@Tranquility32 Wow! I never realized they had a show in the states! But it's probably my fault since I got rid of my Corrupt Cable Company and after that moved to Central America, which is where I discovered them. And obviously, I still look back to their timeless videos and wonderful recipes.

I found them here in the US years ago on public TV, always loved watching them, and still do, still have not idea what most of the stuff is they are cooking, but some of it looks great.
@@sabejreid2072 THe BBC have never shown the Fat Ladies after Clarissa went to Leicester and said it reminded her of Lahore! Yet all the the lakies Jamies Oliver, James, Martin, Rick Stien, Nigella, 2 Hairy Bikers have been on. It goes to show you cannot criticise the truth!
I love how they were lively, brilliant ladies. Yes, Jennifer smoked and drank but she lived her life the way she chose and both seemed happy. Not all of us want to be a carbon copy of everyone else. The bottom line is be happy and enjoy life because we all must die at some point.
@ michael andrews They were twenty years apart in age, Jennifer dying in 1999 & Clarissa in 2014, but they both did reach nearly 70. Neither could exactly be called a short life. Neither died of conditions directly attributable to butter or cream, either. Jennifer's lung cancer may have been caused by the smoking. But it is a question we all must ask of ourselves - live a more concentrated life, so to speak, and enjoy it more for a shorter time or live a more watered-down life for a longer time?
@heyitslena95 Not for ME (I personally abhor the smell of cigarettes), but for HER it was obviously a pleasure worth chancing it. Would she have lived another 15 or 20 years without? Possibly. I think Julia Child reached 93. Would she have made it to 100 without all the FOI GRAS? Who knows? It is a certainty that none of us lives forever. She was hurting no one but herself & it was, in fact, her life...
I loved this series and the ladies! A great thing about their series is that they dispelled the common stereotypes about British cooking, that it's all beef, fish and chips, and vegetables boiled till they're mush. This episode and some others remind us that Britain is an island, and there's a great variety of seafood available. They did make fish and chips in one episode, too. But overall, the dishes showed an interesting range of ingredients, and flavors. Let's raise a pint of good still ale, to the Two Fat Ladies, and all who follow them!
Well, they didn’t ‘make’ fish n chips in any episode, but they did eat fish n chips in the Picnic episode when they were in Wales for the male voice choir.

Thank you for updating me. As much as I enjoyed them, it was my wife who paid who paid more attention to them. I dont think I could listen to them again. But thanks for the heads up.
Its May 15, 2019 - Wednesday 12:43 in the morning here in San Diego City of Southern California and I'm watching these delightful women - I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching their shows, segments and interactions. Cheers Everyone ... Beto.
They are amazing cooks who will always be missed. In some ways they were ahead of their time focusing on local foods and regional tastes. For a time food shows favored exotic food with hard to find ingredients and were costly to make. They cooked because they loved to cook and share history and humor. The current shows lack this realism and mistakes that even Julia Child experienced. Everything now has to turn out perfect everytime or there retakes until it is. I'm sure the underlings of the current shows never get the credit they are due to make the shows seem so perfect.
With a very great deal of probability, yes. She passed away from lung cancer. On the other hand, she was 71 so from that point of view, she made it quite a ways.More interesting, from the point of smoking and drinking, is that she was a devout Roman Catholic(in fact, her uncle was the personal manservant of Cardinal Humes), and also that Clarissa was a recovering alcoholic who, because of that, kept WELL away from any booze.
Mind you, she was born in 1928... My grandfathers, born a decade earlier, lived until ages 65 and 71. My grandmothers only lived until ages 50 and 64. This generation lived much harder lives than we do now. Jennifer lived a good life and, up until she was suddenly ill, she was happy.
love these old episodes but it's sad that they're both gone now. And for a bit of trivia, Clarissa had a crazy, totally long and utterly British name: Clarissa Theresa Philomena Aileen Mary Josephine Agnes Elsie Trilby Louise Esmerelda Dickson Wright. She lived a turbulent life - listening to some of her comments now give them a whole new meaning.
This was probably the most entertaining cooking show ever. They never cooked anything that I would consider eating, but I still enjoyed watching them. My favorite scenes were of Jennifer mixing foods with her bare hands, while wearing giant rings on every finger.
Oh how love watching this uniquely interesting show.😍 Was so happy to see it here! They are so adorable! And the scenery, and the recipes.....wow. They don't make 'em like this anymore! God bless 'em

I am well in my 30s now and actually working as a chef. When I was little I watched these shows and was amazed at how much people can love food... My parents were never great cooks (they love to cook now though..) but these two fat (and unfortunately) dead ladies fuelled my interest for food and I am eternally gratefull for that. That's why some eat to live and others live to eat like them and myself! Love 'em! Glad I found your collection! Much obliged Negresti Sonicx!!! Well done!
From America their banter was so chaotic and fun! I loved all of it!
Thanks so much for sharing this. I just discovered these wonderful women and I’m positively entranced. Unapologetic, unique, intelligent, funny, creative, irreverent and yet powerfully caring. They seem like great friends. Wish I could have met them! Or at least sent them reams of fan mail.
I LOVE THIS SHOW. I've been looking for these episodes for months. Thank yoooooou.
:) "Yoghurt is not instead of cream...yoghurt is good for breakfast and stuff..." So true and funny...
Love these ladies....they had the best stories to tell. Two classy ladies.❤
I have been missing these two ladies for many years. I watched them in the beginning if the series and so happy to find them again.
Yep....Binge watching from today and then again!
I always come back to their show. Love them ☺️
Cooking outdoors, that's so rustic and cool. I love these dames. The TV landscape is a piss -poor place without them. R.I.P. you two lovely birds.
I miss these ladies so much ❤️
So thankful to have these videos
LOVED this show in high school. I so wish they recorded more seasons!
Jennifer died halfway through filming season 4, that's why it ended.
Aww 🥰 lovely memories unlocked 🔓 it's times like this that I appreciate RUclips for reminding me of old happy times of my life. I used to watch this show with my parents when I was in highschool ❤
These two adorable ladies, were on Australian TV way back in the 80s and on a Saturday night. My wife and I used to sit and watch their shows with great interest. Sadly they are no more, but thank goodness they are on RUclips. Great shows compared with the crap we have now.
steinwaygrande They weren't on in the 80's!!
It was in the late 80s when we had moved back from Melbourne to Perth and that was in 86. I stand corrected.
steinwaygrande They were only together between 1996 and 1999,which is when the show ran.
Thank you for updating me. As much as I enjoyed them, it was my wife who paid who paid more attention to them. I dont think I could listen to them again. But thanks for the heads up.
I too would watch them when I was a young mother in Melbourne Australia
My mother and I would watch this on PBS. She’s been gone 14 years now. Finding these on YT makes me happy/sad.
Thank you Thank you for uploading this series. I used to watch Jennifer and Clarissa back when I was a kid!!! Brings back lots of memories.
My favorite cooking show as a kid. I even had their cookbooks
Its May 15, 2019 - Wednesday 12:43 in the morning here in San Diego City of Southern California and I'm watching these delightful women - I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching their shows, segments and interactions. Cheers Everyone ... Beto.
I want to remember both that way sailing away from this Earth to a place without pain and sickness , blessed be their memory
These ladies are international treasures. R.I.P. I certainly hope that they have met-up in the next one. 🖖🐱🦄☘🌈😎
I loved how at the end of each programme they’d show Jennifer with a drink & cigarette in hand.
GothicaBeauty. That's probably what she died of
With a very great deal of probability, yes.
@@mooneyes2k478 All so sad, but true... The programs, though, were a non-PC delight!
She sadly died from lung cancer :(
love these old episodes but it's sad that they're both gone now. And for a bit of trivia, Clarissa had a crazy, totally long and utterly British name: Clarissa Theresa Philomena Aileen Mary Josephine Agnes Elsie Trilby Louise Esmerelda Dickson Wright. She lived a turbulent life - listening to some of her comments now give them a whole new meaning.
steemdup WTH?
@David Bennett oh wow
Jennifer and Clarissa was a credit to show biz with their educational cooking programs.
You're missing an "A" for "and", and an another "S" in the middle for the name of "Clarissa".
Many thanks, I stand corrected.
Joseph Landrut You're Welcome.
I loved these ladies! God bless their memory.
I keep feeling like they're going to fly off the pier when they drive to the lighthouse!
This was probably the most entertaining cooking show ever. They never cooked anything that I would consider eating, but I still enjoyed watching them. My favorite scenes were of Jennifer mixing foods with her bare hands, while wearing giant rings on every finger.
Thank you for taking the time to upload these TFL videos. Much appreciated.
One of the best all-time cooking shows!
This was the first show of theirs I ever saw. I loved it instantly even though I was a vegetarian.
Who could fail to be charmed by Jennifer impromptu singing "I am the kitchen fairy... just a moment"? 25:19
I’m American and I stumbled upon this show when I was about 10 years old (so around 2007) and I’ve loved it ever since
Oh how love watching this uniquely interesting show.😍 Was so happy to see it here! They are so adorable! And the scenery, and the recipes.....wow. They don't make 'em like this anymore! God bless 'em
My god how our standards have dropped i cannot think of anybody on tv today with 10% of the charisma these two great characters had . RIP ladies i loved watching you in the 90s and still do today .
This episode made me very hungry. Monk Fish is called "poor man's lobster" it's delicious. I love shellfish. 😋 😋
And that fish pie looked delicious with the buttered spinach underneath! Definitely adding that the next time I make one.
@@sushicourier , I never had fish pie.
@@manthony777 It's delicious! Just a cream sauce with lots of fresh seafood baked under mashed potatoes. I'm sure if they called it Seafood AuGratin here more Americans would love it like the Brits. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧
@@sushicourier actually to call it Au gratin would be incorrect unless you put breadcrumbs or cheese on top, which is what au gratin means, to be topped with breadcrumb or cheese or both!
@@zarachastellaris9016 But we're not talking about France. 😁😉
i just discovered S3E2. TY for sharing this with us!
❤ Michele from North Fork California
I love these ladies, i m here we are, almost 20 years later :)
Wow! That Andrew is a handsome seaman indeed.
phil2u48 I was thinking the same thing!
Yess
From 15:20 until the boatt casts off is hilarious. Their comments on the delicious fisherman to the life jackets and falling into the arms of Lawrence (and the deadpan "poor Lawrence") is comedy gold. First time watching these charming ladies and i am hooked. Xx
The fish pie actually looked good
I watch these ladies over and over, and I’m entertained every time!
Being an educated chef from Johnson and wales uni this was one of my all time favorite shows Loved watching these two ladies .
Love this show even today! Brings back so many wonderful memories. I wish the ladies were still on TV today , would make our world so much better!!!
Thanks so much for uploading this show , I used to watch it before Jenifer passed on but she certainly lived a full life with her cigs and booze lol 👏👏👏
I have just found this and have happily subscribed to you. Thank you for having this on, I have missed seeing this so much.
Love at 26:32 when Clarissa switches from her upper class accent (that naturally one has) to a dead common: "Wipe me 'ands on". LOL!
Jennifer has a mental crises as it happens "....that's not for you to wipe your hands on."
I just adore these ladies, they have that ‘Hinge and Bracket’ energy that makes me smile 😃
The way Jennifer can take a stab at something with only a minute twitch of a lip... Its absolutely hilarious and done in such an awesome style that I cant help but applause 22.00 to 22.02
I remember as a kid growing up the 90s I use to watch them all the time on TV now that I’m 34 I do miss them RIP Two Fat Ladies
Coiffure, perfect English accents, splendid outfits. What a different world
Thank you for uploading these, much appreciated! Great to see these again and revisit my fave recipes of this show.
Thank you for putting this series on RUclips. I love these two.
they remind me of the geese sisters from the aristocats. in the absolute best way lmao
danielle ray Lol! Soo right!!! 😊
Lol ,I can see that 😊🤗
I really miss this show, I watch it every time I get peace and quiet!
I am SO glad to FINALLY find them!!!
I watched them when I was a stay at home mommy!!
I made so many of their recipes and I still do!
In fact! Today I made a recipe from one of their shows and my son ( now an adult) said
Hey!! I remember them!!
So I thought I would search for them AGAIN and finally found them!!
Way to go ladies!! We’re toasting you guys again as we eat our dinner ❤️❤️❤️
They are charming.
I know now how to make delicious food also healthy, but they were definitely an inspiration
I miss these two so much.
I could listen to these fabulous ladies forever ! The cooking is irrelevant but their charisma touches my heart and soul 💞🙏
i love these ladies... love to listen to their commentary and to hear their stories and background of the local people. Miss them! :)
Thank you so much for this upload. I love these gals. New subscriber here❤️
They were both magnificent! RIP!
The marina at the beginning with all the boats reminds me of the marshy parts of New Jersey. I went on a boat tour of the area with friends and I was shocked at how quaint it looked, being we were in Atlantic City LOL.
Anyhow, Jennifer and Clarissa always managed to make everything look like so much fun. I miss these two ladies these days because there's no one like them on any of the cooking shows now. Everyone cooks fancy schmancy now.
Fancy schmancy. Love it!!!
Never heard that saying here in Australia
@@debbieanne7962 It's a very old expression lol.
this was the greatest cooking show ever on food network! absolutely loved watching these ladies. never missed an episode. love the one where they are bird hunting in scotland. man i miss when there were great food shows this
I used to love watching these two. R.I.P., Jennifer.
Jennifer passed away in 1999
Clarissa in 2014
