Jennifer making her “fruit and vegetable” meal out of bacon and anchovies and then walking out to go drink some champagne is so funny to me. She really didn’t want to play today 😂
They refer to poems and works of literature like we do movies. Their way is way more intellectual. Loved watching them, in real time (over sixty) and miss them greatly.
There are still older people like them around (though sadly they aren't any longer), who went through schools when they were 10 x better than now, and/or who've read a lot of books. I miss them too.

These two are such a hoot to watch. Will never forget just after watching one episode, I knew that I was hooked. RIP dear ladies, you're greatly missed, but not forgotten.
Quality cooking show with bits of history and folklore and laughs. You made watching TV enjoyable. Too much nonsense on the telly today and everything a competition. Miss you.
Peaches Cardinal sounds divine. I'd have to make it for myself now. (Note: I just made orange peel bitters, and that would be a lovely addition to peaches.)
I really adore these two amazingly talented, intelligent and beautiful ladies. I miss them so much. I have their shows on DVD and 2 of their books, which are increasingly difficult to find. I’m still searching for their first book in good condition! Sweet, sweet kindred Ladies, Rest In Peace.🕊🥓🍤🧀🍅🥖🍑🥒🍒🍗🍓🥚🌰🥦🌽🍖🍋🙏🏻
Totally love, respect AND eat these 2 lovely women's recipes!! Even though they were not 'friends' off camera, they sure pulled it off professionally to do the job(s) they were meant to do. Thank you so much for taking the time to download such a quality video representing 2 women that should always be remembered!
R L her brother claims it was because either A, she was running a protection racket or B, had bashed a fellow student with a roller skate in the mouth & broke their tooth.
I just tweeted Alton Brown. I'm not sure if he'll respond. I asked him because in the mid to late 90s, all I looked forward to was Good Eats and Two Fat Ladies. What I just tweeted him was asking why Clarissa says to not call the raspberry sauce she is making a coulis, when EVERYWHERE now in cooking, so always hear everyone being fancy calling a fruit puree (sauce) a coulis. Makes me wonder why she was so adamant about it.
Because its been commandeered to mean fruit or vegetable puree juices. Its properly applied only to the juices you get from cooked meats. Then its used for soups or sauce bases, or with pureed cooked meats. Very loosely applied to a pureed shellfish soup. Basically cooking "philistines" call fruit or vegetable puree's a Coulis. Its change in meaning, just like Gay didn't used to mean a sexual orientation but meant happiness/joy/carefree...Coulis now means fruit and veggie puree juice, someday no one will remember what it really is.
Today being religious is scoffed at. I really respect how passionate Jennifer and Clarissa were. I identify with Jennifer. She never put up with authority figures. I am not fond of them either.
Love how they both came across as being very un pc & a hell of a lot of fun to spend time with. I can image a right rambunctious party going on with these two leading the conga.
most of these actually looked really good... when they don't smother everything with anchovies and liver... the bubble and squeak and the peaches cardinal looks sooooo good
It can be really surprising sometimes when eating dishes made with anchovies and liver to find that their individual tastes are no longer detectable, but the flavors of the dish are just so amazingly good you can't believe they're in there! I made a dish like that once out of curiosity after seeing the recipe in a magazine, the next time I made it I brought it to a potluck and one guest HATED anchovies with a passion but after others told her it was really good and they couldn't taste them she tried a little bit, and then a little more, and so on, expecting to hate it at any moment, but she ended up in disbelief how much she liked it, and she said she never could taste the dreaded anchovies. It was a Swedish potato dish called "Jansson's Temptation", and it was requested of me to bring it on several other occasions. I've had other things like that with anchovies as well as dishes where the liver disappeared, but I think it was all minced up with lots of other good stuff and it probably would have to be chicken livers. Maybe these recipes were that way too. Most everything these ladies made looked SO yummy.😋
Love watching these gals!!! Reminds me of the Little Rascals when Stymie was trying to eat an artichoke! You might have choked Arti but your not going to choke Stymie!!!!
Ingrid if you watch all three seasons you’ll find out a lot about their lives. Clarissa’s Father was abusive towards her Mother, herself & siblings after coming back from the war.
You'll also hear her saying in one episode "a dog, a wife, a walnut tree, the more you beat it the better it be." Clearly able to have humor about her unfortunate past.
@TheSapphireDragon1 they’re delicious. The best part is the base where the flower meets the stem, it is the greenest, most potent spring-tasting thing I’ve found so far. I usually stuff them with cheese, a mix of half chèvre and half herbed Boursin. Dip in a very thin batter of flour/sparkling water or whipped egg whites as she says.
I just cannot get enough of these two! What must the yuppies have thought when our dear Clarissa demonstrated how one removes fish bones and olive pits? I bet they still use their fabric napkins despite their lesson. Ugh.
One can see that each had respect for the other professionally as they would watch intently, when they had opportunity, the other prepare their specialties for the dinner. 🐟🦐🐔

The Boccaccio reference is what got me.

The Yuppie has gone and the artichoke remains .. wisdom ❤
This is a lovely rabbit hole to the 1990’s! Thank you for sharing these videos! Jennifer having that trademark ciggie at the end!
i love how jennifer's first dish for this fruits and veg episode includes a bunch of bacon god bless her
Everything is better with bacon, particularly vegetables!
And anchovies, don't forget the anchovies, or she'd never forgive you!😄🙃
The artichokes are lovely, and the raspberry drizzled over the simmered peaches, ohhhh yum.
Only these two could do a programme about vegetable cooking and make it a meat product feast. I absolutely adore them.
I love how she says "Rrrrrrravishing!"
I simply adore, just adore jennifer's accent...she makes everything so grandiose, posh, and at the same time, down to earth
I love Clarissa's comment "If you object to using lard....then eat something else."
Her comment was actually: "'If for some reason you don't use either of those (lard or beef dripping), go and COOK something else (other than 'bubble & squeak)."
I loved her ability to nonchalantly tell it like it is! 💯👍🏾

Still watching these lovely ladies in 2023. Such a great show. ❤️
Absolutely the very best cooking show to grace television. I miss them so much.
Love love love these two ladies! It's a shame they are gone, best food stars in my book:)
Katie Thielen proper food cooked well with no half measures either.
I so luv them
Loved their personalities and the show. I was always baffled over the nail polish and big rings, while cooking.

I wish we still had them! I would love to eat anything they prepared.

"We've come to plunder you!"
In a TV interview- the host asked "Why Do You Call Yourselves Two Fat Ladies?" Without missing a beat, Clarrisa remarked, "Well, Because We Are!"
I miss these women greatly. If you get a chance to read their autobiographies, these women truly lived remarkable lives.
Quality cooking show with bits of history and folklore and laughs. You made watching TV enjoyable. Too much nonsense on the telly today and everything a competition. Miss you.
best thing about Christmas is my boxing day bubble and squeak with a slice of ham or gammon. once a year indulgence.

"Hacking away those monsters" lol
"didn't they have extraordinary habits?"
Very.
Best line of any of their episodes! I laughed like a loon when I heard the tone of her response to Clarissa's question about the Nun's habits.
"You really upset people." "Oh, good."
Love it.
I really enjoy watching all their shows. Educational & entertaining. True treasures.

Sweet, little vegetable garden.
Equally delightfully ladies and delicious recipes
The peaches are gorgeous

Jo Hunter she was a total rebel & a hell of a lot of fun too.
Mushroom ketchup
She was an alcoholic for most of her life. Rather sad, but she found cooking more desirable than being a barrister.

Anyone else catch the nose pick by Clarissa at 20.04?
No
"the yuppie is gone, but the artichoke remains." Haha 10:31
no way would i ever have the patience to make artichokes
Our family never did all that with artichokes. We just sliced a bit.off the stem and plunked the veggies into a large pot of water.
Did she just casually drop being a victim of domestic violence?
Yeah, she actually did...

Yes. She also reveals the very fraught relationship she had with her father in her autobiography Spilling the Beans.

Jennifer: Very!

I remember watching these 2 ladies in the 70's/80's on the PBS channel in the states - they made me laugh but intersected in cooking
I have the books, I have the DVD set of their shows! I've loved them for many, many years.
I can't help but feel that Clarissa was making some kind of commentary by serving a group of priests a dish that "will soothe the savage male"
Clarissa was a self proclaimed masochist who loved using tools during her “debauched existence” 😉
I love them. Very down to earth
clarissa is erudite who has treasure of knowledge and Jennifer is the fun part of the show perfect ying and yang
