I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I was this week to find these precious ladies on RUclips! Absolutely made my whole day! #RIPTwoFatLadies you are *so* missed! 🥰
There is something innately soothing about both of these wonderful ladies.. I have fallen asleep many a time while having one episode or two of this show playing in my bedroom.. Not to mention the food they prepare looks really good.. I'd love to sample just about everything they made.. RIP Jennifer and Clarissa.. You may have departed this world.. but you're both immortal thanks to this lovely series...!
Clarissa must have had some time on this episode as a recovering alcoholic. such a brave strong woman who has made such an impression on many with numerous endeavors and and incredible career despite her abusive upbringing. God bless these amazing women!
Yes, she was a recovering alcoholic, and she stayed sober for the rest of her life. Her sister writes a very, nasty cruel interview about her - which logic says is driven by envy. Clarissa made no secret of her problems. She was courageous indeed.
@@gullwingstorm857 Yeah, basically Clarissa and her sister are a generation apart - the sister is twenty years older and was married and out of the house when the father's reign of terror started. It doesn't surprise me that the sister denies the domestic abuse - it's normal for abusers to successfully hide the behavior from everyone outsidde the household.
@MrMulrine83 - That IS a classic line. Hearing Jennifer say it brought to mind how often I see lawn sprinklers watering the pavement in Denver, while Denver Water urges people to conserve.
Clarissa: "If you haven't got tiny little blini pans and you may be those unfortunate people that haven't" love it! I used to watch this with my late stepfather who adored these two women and watching this now gives me such a warm feeling. I love these two women and wish there were more like them on TV.
one of the many things i love about these two is how, even though they are massively english, they are actually fairly worldly with their cooking, they both seem at home cooking foreign food
Not so good when it comes to US cooking - horrible Mexican / southern or new England styles (Clarissa would hate true Mexican style foods from New Mexico & Arizona - especially the hatch chilies!)
This is one of my favorite episodes. Love the part where Jennifer breaks out in song & dance at the Dorchester's bar. Priceless! Love them both but there's something very special about Jennifer, not to mention, hilarious and very entertaining. May she rest in peace.
Eileen French late reply ☺️ but I was reading Clarissa’s autobiography. In it she says that the producer had wanted Jennifer to sing a song but that she had rather gone in a huff. Clarrissa felt that being asked to do it reminded Jennifer of being a child and being made to perform by her mother for guests. So, Clarissa came up with the idea of actually making the cocktail and letting Jennifer sample it. Of course, this resulted in the perfectly natural, unrehearsed moment seen here which is glorious.
They are absolutely hilarious! It’s everything I love about the Brits . I am an American who has been living in the Uk for 30 years and I have to say these type of characters are almost a bygone era … a lot of them have passed on . So witty and entertaining. I have to say Clarissa does make quite a lot of sexual innuendos and I think they go over Jennifer’s head ! I don’t think she was much interested in the subject . Lol
I loved this show back in the day and more even now. To hear Jennifer sing at the end and the two break out laughing together, such warmth and true friendship between the two ladies. Can't wait to get to Heaven to taste some of their dishes and have a smoke with Jennifer! :)
This is one of my favourite episodes from 2 Fat Ladies, a peerless tv series. There are so many cheeky asides and genuine moments, such as the touching moments between Jennifer and the staff at The Dorchester. Great recipes, too.
That is so funny. I just read an article how men and women lower their pitch when talking to someone they are attracted to. Here is Jennifer saying the same thing years earlier.
@19.00 " hours of endless fun". She's right. Preparing our daily feed shouldn't be a chore, but part of living. Up until computers saved all that time for us, I suppose it was.
I enjoyed Clarissa’s autobiography, narrated in her own voice; sorry she and her mother suffered an abusive father/husband. Jennifer is wonderfully comfortable with herself - tremendously fun lady 💖🤓💖
Startling (though, I should say, not at all surprising) to hear Jennifer speak Portuguese! What a fantastic feast they've whipped up for the Brazilian ambassador's party!
I recently discovered this show and it's better than the current crop of cooking shows on TV now. What I wouldn't give to be able to sit down with these two gals with a glass of slow gin and just chat and listen to their stories.
There's a documentary of Jennifer kicking around RUclips that's good. A huge pity she never wrote a book as she must have had amazing stories. Fyi the show was designed to be the opposite of other British cooking shows that were all instruction and no personality.
They were so awesome. Jennifer was quite eccentric and Clarissa had a bit of a checkered past. I think it made them both interesting. I would have loved to have been able to sample some of their dishes. God rest their souls.
i always thought Clarissa was brilliant. she always talked about her family vacations when she was growing up, where they went, what they did and she sounded extremely smart! i would have never thought that she was abused & mis-treated! i know she wasn't crazy about being a passenger in rosemary's side-seated motorcycle!...LOL! i loved watching their journeys on the road. they brought immense happiness to me when i watched them!...the hard part is over now...now they can rest peacefully!!
This was one of the few cooking programmes my dad would watch he saw 'celebrity chefs' as a buch of pretenceous (insert expletives). To my dad, these two and the hairy bikers were normal who cooked propper food.
An ambivalent Catholic is certainly not the same as an atheist! In The Guardian’s 2014 obit: “Clarissa was brought up as a Roman Catholic, and remained one, albeit sometimes truculently.” Clarissa herself, in 2012, to The Telegraph: “I’m not a very good or compliant Catholic. I reserve my right to disagree. My God is not that of the church, but I go to Mass because I like to have somewhere formal to say thank you.”
When they traveled to different locations, Clarissa Dickson Wright demanded to be sent to a different hotel because of Jennifer’s constant drinking and partying.
I've seen other people make "buñuelos de bacalao" and I am like ... "you are suppose to add potatoes so it won't be too strong and mint, the taste of mint is good!" like I have made them a million times.... lol
In Lisbon we don't add the mint or the egg whites and we use a lot less parsley, and they are absolutely delicious. I have to say that these also must be very good. And we call them Pastéis de Bacalhau.
I just love Jennifer Patterson. She is one that had years of experience. The egg whites, I can see, will make it light and airy. I am Mexican... I am not sure we had Bacalao since we were mostly inland and gulf coast. Catfish was my families choice of fish.
I remember seeing this show when I was a kid back in Mexico. I remember my stepdad putting this show (translated version) on the TV and eating snacks while watching it. Show a great and memorable times. ❤
Loved this show so it is nice to rewatch it years later. I remember having a friend a long time ago who wasn’t much of a cook tell me she made salt cod but couldn’t eat it because it was too salty. I asked her if she had soaked it, which of course she hadn’t, she just thought that was the name of the fish. Even I knew to soak it even though I’m not a fish eater. Guess I just watched lots of cooking shows on PBS.
Jennifer's salt cod cakes is the basis of my salmon potato cakes - leftover cooked salmon, leftover mashed potatoes, 1 egg, salt & pepper, parsley, dill & panko bread crumbs. Great baked or fried & served with a green salad & cucumber cream sauce!! 😋😋😋
Two of the most intelligent, worldly and interesting women unfortunately the likes we will not see again. I loved this series the first time round and enjoying it even more now.

Me too!! I’m binge watching these wonderful women all weekend! ❤
You're welcome, I use to watch this when this first came out on the ABC Australia back in the 90s.
Jennifer asked for a bit of caviar for her last meal... what a character. RIP ladies.
Clarissa was on her way to the hospital with caviar for Jennifer when she was told of her death. She ate the caviar herself in Jennifer's honor
Oh how i miss Jennifer and Clarissa. They made me smile even on rainey days

"The water board won't like it, but to hell with them - they charge us so much money and do so much leaking themselves!" - CLASSIC

Quality!!😂😂
One of the best lines in the series. You can see Clarissa stifling a chuckle in response
Jennifer on her vintage Triumph. Clarissa riding
shotgun. In a word: "BADASS!"
Love these chicks!
Hell's Grannies.
"There's not a man on my Ottoman, and there hasn't been one for weeks. There's not a man on my Ottoman,he's gone off to fight the Greeks!"😁
that was my favourite bit
🤣😂🤣
I don't know of anyone who has figured out where that quote came from. I'm thinking Jennifer just made it up herself.
@@openskies11 it came from a Cambridge footlights play done in the 1950s

That's funny, because my late , great stepfather loved them also
Fantastic stuff
These two were my introduction into the culinary world. I miss them, such characters. RIP girls.
Hilarious and informative. They were two of a kind. The angels are eating well, I think!
The way Clarissa tosses that match over her shoulder gives me life.
The small details shown make this the most unique show. Always the best!
I laughed at that, too. "Wait! Did you forget you're in the Brazilian embassy?"
I think she was aiming for the sink!
one of the many things i love about these two is how, even though they are massively english, they are actually fairly worldly with their cooking, they both seem at home cooking foreign food
Oh their individual lives have taken them around the world a lot, amassing knowledge every step of the way.
It's because of their worldly ways I'll overlook the pronunciation of "jalapeño". 😄
Not so good when it comes to US cooking - horrible Mexican / southern or new England styles (Clarissa would hate true Mexican style foods from New Mexico & Arizona - especially the hatch chilies!)
As a Brazilian living in Uk , and super fan of Clarissa and Jennifer, I’m very happy to see them enjoying caipirinhas ♥️❤️🥰

Maia Solomon oh come on you know Clarissa would be up for that :-she liked a good looking man or two :))
That was one of my favourite lines in the whole series.
And my husband said: “She wishes!”
A proper cooking show. Miss them very much.
I enjoy this program very much, I love the English very much. M B
I love the way Jennifer says the word BALCONY! 😂
Love you ladies forever 💓
I wish I had a collection of raunchy songs with wHich to burst out on a wHim ...
@deadPANther - you should work up such a collection; with You Tube these days, it should be a snap!
The balcony scene toward the end of this episode is everything.
Clarissa looks absolutely romantic in this episode..
Her makeup and hair are lovely. :)
too much makeup... but the hair is perfect!
@Ehm Ci - It is a delight to see her hair so neat; it looks rather less attractively styled or wind blown in most of the episodes.
Lovely hairdo.
This is precious. I dont get out like this much if ever. living vicariously through you two!
"The Water Board charges so much money and do so much leaking themselves" That's GOLD! hahah... :0)
"I have quite a lot to do, if you want to get on with your creatures."
Love it...
To hell with the water board! - Love it. I miss these two so much. GB is a much lesser place these days.

The idea of a running stream through the kitchen is awesome. Sounds like a surreal dream. Also it reminds me of Ocarina of Time.
@Kitana Kojima - It does sound like a wonderful and fantastic idea!
What a gush of wicked charm! RIP.
Clarissa has a kitchen fairy; every proper home should have at least one!
Mine's been on hiatus since I first moved in!

love the mixing bowls! As another bit of trivia, both Jennifer and Clarissa were Roman Catholic - Jennifer more devout than Clarissa.
steemdup Clarissa was raised Catholic, but became atheist later in adult life.
Please check your facts.
Even when you go to another religion you will find your Catholic background raising its head.
Jennifer was MUCH more devout, I should say!
