Ankit Prasad has been a Product Manager since 2010 across a range of companies: large and small. He is currently a Product Manager at Google where he works in the consumer payments space. Prior to this, he worked at Earnest (a start-up, recently acquired by Navient), Yammer (a Microsoft acquisition), and Microsoft (on the PowerPoint team). This guy is really humble.
This was the most upfront, highest clarity PM video I've seen in thousands. Great presentation and loved the actionable metrics especially
Nicole Anon ㄚ˙
As a first year PM, this presentation enables me to jump out of a particular feature that I'm building and to see how it fits into the overall PM role. Thank you!
Hi Jing I wonder If Product Manager and Project Manager are in some degree similar? Because I am studyng Master in Project Management and I would know if this video can help me to learn more, Blessings friend
thank you! one of the best I've seen on YT. Very clear and simple to understand.
“The process can get tiring...typically, perennially in a state of urgency and everything’s on fire…” Sounds like project management and exactly what I'm trying to escape. But there' still something intriguing about creating something valuable and testing it with the people who need it most...something engineering (traditional not software) just hasn't given me, despite that being the promise of the profession. It's more so maintaining the systems that have already been created. Anyway, thanks for the helpful video. I'll be checking out more from the Product School.
This is exactly how I feel as well, coming from traditional engineering. :)
I look at PM as operational training to help build companies of my own.
Good summary. An interesting observance is how much waterfall there is in this presentation. The PRD doc is the good example. The thing to think about is that agile still requires a level of waterfall surrounding the dev agile process. At minimum, there is always some level in the company thinking more in quarters, half years, and years rather then say two week sprints. Another thing to keep in mind if using agile is that the project management functions do NOT go away. The need to organize, prioritize, assign, track, etc. is still there. The agile process can help but don't fall into the trap of thinking that no role needs to own some coordination and push. You can get this from the PM, SM, Team Lead, Lead Engineer, or whatever. It could be a mix. The point is that you still need it. I see teams fall into the trap of thoughts like "the team owns it" which in the end is often the same as "no one owns it".
by far one of the best video I have seen on product Management!
Just starting my role as pm. This is very helpful.
Helpful, Insightful, and learned a few things! Great stuff, Ankit (y)
Good presentation. Thank you Ankit and Product School for this.
So far great information.
Great Input and really cool guy:) Currently in B2B Productmanagement but plan on going to Business School and change to B2C (guess I will be able to better relate to the products:))
awesome video, I wish I watched this before last weeks interview where I was asked the question how would you design a product you love :)
It is indeed one of the best introductory videos on Product Management
Glad you think so!
Useful information, thank you!
Brilliant presentation. The presenter gave clear explanations about very useful and important topics. Thank you for this video! Will definitely rewatch it. 🙏
Happy to hear!
Excellent video for people who are exploring this as a career option. It would really help to embed the Questions from Q&A either in slides or in the video.
Great insights , Thanks for sharing .

Great stuff!
this is the one of the simply explained and organized video i have gone through
Thank you! Glad you think so!!
Hey Guys, that's a really nice education that I get from these videos, I wonder if you can include the presentation in the split window in this video itself, I know, I have an option to go split myself, but just a suggestion for ease of watching. really a low priority request though :)
how are you splitting it bro

@@ankit-prasad hi there! amazing video and really helpful. do you happen to have the slides (link above is not working...)?
Many thank Mr. Ankit & Product School who shared the valuable presentation. I learned too much and can apply it now
You are most welcome! This makes us so happy to hear!
This was very insightful -
Thanks for providing the presentation in a slideshare, that is very helpful here.
Could the speaker repeat what questions people are asking, or answers they're giving?
excellent video!
So clear
awesome presentation!
Great presentation,
What are the tools that are used for launching with cross functional teams? Launch Cal and Areon(spelling?)
awesome one, learn a lot
the roadmap example was not visible. anyone explain the columns he has mentioned
Amazing presentation, I wish we can see the screen a little more clearer. Thank you.
Great video! Can you tell us how a PM with 2-3 years of work experience can move into product management. Is this switch possible
Wonderfully informative - thank you.
Thank you for watching!
@@ProductSchoolSanFrancisco Hi - the link to the slide is not working. Please can you look into this. Thanks

What a good looking presenter
any recommendations getting into PM from outside that industry? been in healthcare for 10 years
Is there a way to get the slides? Great video, shame the content of the slides aren't visible enough.
Thanks for useful information
Where can I get the slides! The link In the description won’t work
Presentation slides are not available anymore :(
This video could be so much better if the Q&A was either taken out or the questions from the audience were possible to understand (even some transcribing on the screen would be terrific - sometimes it is hard to figure out what the original question was). Also, as others pointed out, some content on the slides are impossible to read.
Hi Bertold, thank you for the feedback. The slides are available in the video description. Here's the link www.slideshare.net/productschool/what-are-the-basics-of-product-manager-interviews-by-google-pm/productschool/what-are-the-basics-of-product-manager-interviews-by-google-pm
@@ProductSchoolSanFrancisco Could you publish the slides at another location? Slideshare was purchased by Scribd and the content is no longer available...Thank you!
This process seems very scientific which I understand. However, if we allowed a more fluid and open discussion of product and preferences for customers I would ask the more creative types rather than the technical types. Since 1 typically hones in on details and the other on the possobilities.
What are the factors taken into consideration while formulating your product strategy being a PM?
presentation is not visible!!!
I understand why I am not getting this as effectively or quickly. I lack the initial coding skills and the TIME to learn, plan for the future and stay motivated. This causes fear and anxiety a basic human function. I wonder if this type of process can be done differently and more efficiently. May I give theory or suggestion?
Bruce Staff I’m about to start high school and want to be a pm should I take a class for coding??
slumpjezus take a PM class! You don’t need coding to be a PM. I’m going to make a video about this soon, if you’re interested!
I hope the audio quality is better
Could you please upload the presentation again?
You can access the slides here shorturl.at/uGISU while we're waiting for our account to be restored.
It would be great if presentations are also shared via Google drive apart from scribd or slideshare coz they require u to pay and subscribe.
Hi Prashant! The slides are free to view on SlideShare without any subscription or payment. You only need to subscribe and sign up if you want to download them for offline viewing. :)
Thank you I’m an 8th grader looking for what course I should take to become a pm
slumpjezus follow along on my channel - I’m going to cover a lot of topics related to product management!
Is he saying that most of the google employees are not team players. So, if you are a team player, you will get faster growth.. Anyway, Great Content.
