Hello all! After a staggering number of requests, I have FINALLY made the diagram in the video available for you to download. You can grab it here: theproductpup.gumroad.com/l/productmanagertasks Please leave a Gumroad rating if you can spare a minute :) Enjoy!
Hi anika , I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you're a member of the Product Club at UTD and that you've acquired your CSPO certification. That’s really impressive, and I’d love to learn from your experience. I’m currently exploring product management roles, but I don’t come from a technical background and lack coding experience. I’d really appreciate your thoughts on the key skills I should focus on developing to strengthen my candidacy for such roles. Additionally, I’ve heard that product manager interviews can be quite rigorous, sometimes involving as many as six rounds. Is this the case for junior product managers with 3-5 years of experience as well? How many rounds are typical at this level, and do interviews usually take place online or onsite? I’ve also heard that the role can be stressful at times. While I understand it varies by company, any insights you can share from your own experience would be really helpful. How stressful is the job generally, and do you have any tips for managing it effectively? Could you please spare some time to help me clarify these doubts? Your guidance would mean a lot to me, and I truly appreciate your time and support. Best regards, Rajesh Chandra
What an incredible and structured overview of what PMs actually do on their day to day! As someone who is potentially considering to transition into PM I highly appreciate you taking the time to put this together! Thank you! 👑
I agree. I have been having my IT husband constantly tell me that I would make a great product manager, but had not been able to really understand what it is until I found this video. @berta999able from what field are you looking to transition to PM if I may ask?
This is the first time I have taken notes from a video, I loved every aspect of this video, but this is not for everyone, I had to see it maybe three times to make sure I had captured everything. I am really surprised to see that I am heavily involved in meetings, I had to branch my meetings and have no time to focus on the other areas. really loved it. well done Anika.
So far the best explation of Product Management role on youtube, I was trying to make a decision on if i should switch to product management role or not. Trust me this video helped me alot.
This is the most detailed youtube video I’ve ever seen about the role of a product manager. Please please please make more videos at this level. And I don’t even understand how you create the youtube videos while doing that much
You literarily just saved me lots of time, work and saved my job. As a product designer working in a small startup I also take on Product management responsibilities, with no prior experience this video is definitely going to help me navigate the added responsibilities better. Thank youuu!
OMG!! i can't really over-stress how important and impactful your videos are to us out here. you are indeed a heavenly sent. Please just keep'em coming..
@@iamanikarani lol. Trust me, your channel has taught and saved me a lot. I don't even need to pay thousands of dollars for a PM Cert. One major thing I like about your channel it's that, you provide a detailed experience of the day-to-day life of a PM and hands-on experience. Especially for those who are still in the early stages of their professional career. Not many channels out there provide such a user experience. With your channel, I've been able to build a classic PRD and a product roadmap using google docs following your thought process and hands-on experience. For that reason, I appreciate your good work.💯
pausing this video 30% in to tell you how incredible this is, especially in comparison where it feels like people are actually telling me NOTHING about the day to day. thank you, I really get it now and it makes me pretty excited for my upcoming interview
Very concise and genuine. I am product manager and have gone through almost all of these apects but I'm kinda struggling when someone asking me what PM does, forget stuffs here and there, and end up give generic answers :) This video just maps out and organize everything so well and very close to actual works of PM.
Most videos on youtube only give you a high level overview of what the Product Manager role entails. This is the only one that has gone so much in depth and covered every aspect of it. It's one of a kind type of a video. Loved it. Thank you so much!!!
This is the most insane eye opener explanation of project management and software development. It only took you more than half an hour of my more than one month of online tutorial! Hats off to you madam. You have my utmost respect thank you much!
This is Gold! Thankyou for putting this video together Anika. It’s really the shortest “Product MBA” I’ve come across. You’ve provided an accurate and comprehensive list of things a PM ‘should’ do. The only thing that got missed out (and could be covered in a continuation video) is a sample month’s calendar of a PM that shows how they can actually do so many meetings and tasks in the limited time available during a typical work month/week. In short you’ve covered the ‘what’ part of a PM’s life in this video. But it will also be useful to cover ‘how’ does one actually do these million meetings and tasks and still take out time for food, sleep, family, and socialising ! And how does a PM keep track of promises timelines for their own deliverables to various stakeholders amidst the plethora of meetings and self tasks they have to do. Covering that in relation to this video showing through an example how so many things can actually fit into a typical work week/month will be very useful for PMs! 😊
Great video, so much better than those typical "A day at XYZ role's life", which feels more like a daily vlog and has nothing to do with the work. This is what I call incredible value addition. 🙌✨
And thus says the absolute queen of product management! As a PM who just started out in this career, this video just made my day, week, and month! Thank you so much for the immense value. Found myself nodding, taking notes, and glad that I'm on the right track.
I wish I watched this 6 months ago when starting my first role in product after switching from being an engineer - this was SO informative and well-articulated! Thank you for sharing!
@mehabakshi5184 Hi , Even i am looking forward to change role from a developer to product manager. Would be really great , if we could connect for sometime. Help would be really appreciatd. Thanks. !
Thanks so much for this video. I loved the mind map, such a brilliant way of explaining the workload and tasks of a PM. As someone wanting to change careers, I found this highly helpful. 😊
I'm moving to a Product Manager role in a new company coming from an Application Development Manager Role. This video is so informative. Thank you for this! :-)
wow what a video. I am so glad that I have come across this video. I am new to being a product owner, my department has never had one before either. And I feel like its blind leading the blind. When I saw that diagram I thought this is exactly my work life!
this channel is worth subscribing. The best part about your videos is that i am able to easily mind map the information coz of the way it is presented. A lot of other channels struggle there. Keep sharing insights like these :)
Thanks for this masterpiece Anika. Can you create a video on "how you incorporate your product requirements into the backlogs?" I will love to know how you do that since the product requirements is not a one of things and design/development team might have have even design/developed before an "inspiration" on a requirement surfaces. I dont know if this makes sense.
i'm starting my career as a pm and this is so so so helpful! I got a lot of hands on experience on the "tactical" side of pm and have been able to do a great job. But I didn't get any mentorship or training on the strategy/roadmap and i was even straight up told that i'm not good at strategy which now I get it. I really should've ventured out on my own and learn from other pm experience and content rather than accepting what others claimed about me. Anyways, super super helpful and thanks for spending time on making this video!
Hey Hi Amika, Wow, such a wonderful compilation. Great explanation of flow of things and tasks done by product manager. Very helpful and beneficial. Appreciate taking out time and posting this here.
Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! This is amazing! Concise and comprehensive. Thank you so much for this awesome and very useful video. You touched on everything in a very easy to understand way. I will keep going back to this video as I prepare for my transition into product management role.

Like, low level stuff here - what is your go-to tool kit for tracking and reporting on progress. Do you use any specific software solution like Confluence and Jira, or Trello or Monday, or simply a Google Doc!! Sometimes it can be difficult to keep track of everything a PM is responsible for in one place and have the most up to date information at the tip of your fingers when asked about it in any given meeting. I tend to simply use pen and notepad but things can get messy easily and sometimes it can be hard to find the latest updates and information exactly when you need it.

Can anyone ellobrate What is the difference between product requirements and user stories that are then given to developers?
User stories are more granular than requirements and very user focussed - one requirement can have many stories. A requirement can also be functional (what the product will do) or non-functional (ie security, scalability).
Stories are very focussed on what a user will do and their experience and task. Requirements are more high level.
Hi Anika,
I hope you're doing well!
Best regards,
Rajesh Chandra
Hello, Anika
Could you please advise me a program for illustrating as yours? Thank you! It was the best video I ever found
Sure thing! I am using Procreate with an ipad and apple pencil :)
Thanks Anika, This is a great video..
Thank you 🙏🏼
@TheProductPup - I work as a Product Owner - keen to hear how teams you've worked in the past divvy up PO and PM responsibilities. Thanks
This is very helpful even as a beginner that I am.
Just wanted to clarify. I guess as a PM, I don't really need any strong background in tech, do I?
It’s very helpful, because you’ll be working with technical people, but not mandatory. One with a tech background would have a much greater advantage
This is fantastic, thank you.
This is exactly what I needed...OMG
That makes me so happy
Educative ❤❤❤❤
Better than 100 pmp theories
Very through and extremely informative. Thanks so much!
You're very welcome!
