    The time to start really worrying is getting closer every day. The move towards pilotless aircraft being used is being pushed like crazy.

    Satellite relays, super fast radars, gps, triple redundancy electronics and mechanical systems, powerful antennas and efficient HD radios, hundreds of HD cameras and quiet remote virtual towers (no towers needed) are already available. Creating the network systems for this, well, aviation could be closer to all the other advances in transportation.

    Wow, this program is typically fairly accurate. But did they ever weave a tale about Avionca flight 52 crash. The controllers at Kennedy did everything they could to allow that plane to crash. Anyone who’s a pilot and flies through the northeast corridor and deals with NY approach knows how those controllers are. And back in those days it was even much worse.
    If anyone could cop an attitude over a radio, it’s a NY controller. Sarcastic, always acting like they’re doing you a favor to do their job, just because it’s busy airspace. Well, it’s busy for pilots also. Specially in bad weather, dealing with an emergency such as running out of fuel because they’ve kept you out so long and kept you from landing.
    Their insistence was that the word “emergency” hadn’t been used. Yet, the pilot told them repeatedly “We are running out of fuel”. Period… The fact they shucked their responsibility on a technicality of a Mexican speaking crew not using the correct word, is nothing short of pitiful. While half the passengers survived, all 3 pilots were killed in that crash. It’s only because of the pilots abilities that any of the passengers survived at all.

    I would assume that it would be possible for the plane's computer to be updated to so it could automatically let ATC know that the plane is almost out of fuel, this way they know to give that plane priority without the pilots even having to ask for it, especially if the pilots aren't even aware of it at that time.

    • @umthwalo_kanondindwa
      @umthwalo_kanondindwa 6 месяцев назад +1

      When the Pilots go in for their briefing, amount of fuel needed is part of the things that they calculate, they even calculate extra in case they needed to divert, so they will be alert of the fuel they have onboard. So this means any plane up there has enough fuel to their destination. Maybe check out the story of the GIMLI GLIDER.
      If they aren't sure of the fuel they have, it may be due to some fault on the plane just like AIR TRANSAT FLIGHT 263 (ATLANTIC GLIDER).
