If you're confused as to why lavender calms him, it's because lavender was thought to be the cure to the plague

I’m actually starting to feel bad for 049, it seems like he is seriously attempting to help. But I can’t tell what parts of his mind are actually messed up or if he’s just putting up a facade.

I feel like he might have some sort of schizophrenia and anger issues. My friend has that and it causes him to have massive outbursts at random times while being docile normally. And he feels like absolute shit after hurting someone or something and mournful.

The poor bastard's been thrown in jail, is surrounded by strangers who either don't understand his work or mock him for it, believes he's living in some apocalyptic world ravaged by an endless plague, has to be escorted around in chains and stocks, and he's only allowed to do the one thing he enjoys doing/is good at with heavy restrictions and under constant supervision. And even after all that, the only thing he's done in anger is raise his voice a little.
With a track record like that, he's probably the sunniest motherfucker in the whole Site.

I'm rewatching this in 2020,by the pestilence,I think 0-49 means dying of age.
Maybe he can see when a person is dying or something. The only thing that prevents me from believing that is the fact when he was discovered, he was pretty much “inserting the cure” to a bunch of people, probably regardless of when they would die.

@@rowteree1 i think the plague it talks about is its ability to kill through contact. after killing everyone with just a touch, it began looking into why they die, unaware he was the cause. he claims someone is ill, touches them to find out and they die, confirming they were sick. in reality, they werent. the ability to raise the dead is likely not magical, but is a technique hes developed after research

I am not Jon yeah and the reason he says they’re cured is because they came back to life. When someone points out that they are not human anymore he gets mad and ignores them so I think he’s lulling himself into a false sense of success when the reality is that they are mindless zombies.
I know 049 is an SCP and all but I feel like he's not really a bad entity.
cadfile SCPs don’t have to be “bad things” though, I could name like 10 harmless scps at the top of my head. The foundation is really just trying to keep things that are out of the ordinary away from the public.

And 049 talks about death and dead things very often and never once calls say dead people simply victims of the pestilence and never refers to death or what we consider death as being the pestilence

The long running theory is that the pestilence is actually him accidentally killing people. In other words, he's doesn't actually realise he can kill people by touching them, and thinks they died because they were sick, hence he tries to cure them

Theory: Maybe SCP-049 is calmed by the presence of lavender because they think that it wards off Pestilence, just like plague doctors during the Bubonic Plague thought lavender flowers and pleasant smells can ward off the Plague. (Fun fact: The reason plague doctors wore that beak-like mask was because they stuffed the beak with flowers, mainly lavender, so they were loaded with pleasant smells to ward off the Plague, as people of that time thought the Plague travelled through bad smells.)

What if “the pestilence” is literally just death itself and the plague doctor is actually finding a way to make people immortal
But that doesn’t make sense
Not every has the pestilence but very living human will die one day
And it seems like it’s mostly humans who get the pestilence since 049 was more happy to get animals that were closer to human biology
Plus he talks about death more than once and never dose he call something like death as the pestilence
He also doesn’t refer to dead things as something along the lines of victims of the pestilence you would think he would just like how if someone dies of an illness we say that’s what they died of or call them a victim to that illness

The pestilence being death doesn’t make sense for multiple reasons

And would it just be death from old age? What about death from an illness what about death from a knife being stabbed into your heart would those count as the pestilence or dose it have to be natural death?
I don’t think the answer to any of those questions changes the fact that the pestilence is most likely not death since it just doesn’t make sense for it to be but they were just some questions that made me wonder what would be counted as pestilence if it really was somehow death

I think the pestilence is life itself, he kills the "pestilence" and then he makes immortal beings
I think he is trying to cure pain by killing people and then reanimating them in a state where they can't feel pain. The only problem is: Since the brain is damaged, the person becomes a "zombie" and has to re-live everything, but with less brain functions.
Death and life don’t make sense
One he talks about life and death and doesn’t call them pestilence and he talks about dead things and calls them just that instead of something like victims of the pestilence
And everyone dies and everyone lives
But not everyone has the pestilence
Yet everyone can gain the pestilence
It needs to be something not everyone has but t the same time has to be something everyone can get
And from what it seem the pestilence mostly affects humans since he was annoyed when being given something that was far away in biology from a human body and is happy the closer to a human the thing he is given is

Ok, crazy theory but here me out. It's said that 049 has a humanoid skeleton. What if he is a survivor from someone infected by the plauge and that's the effect of the body after some decades, and if 049-2 was left alone for some years they'll start looking like 049
Well in your claim itself that would be incorrect because you stated that scp-049 became what he was because of THE PESTILENCE not because of the cure, but if he was in fact cured before succumbing to said plague then that would lead to more interesting questions.
I think the cure he is talking about is the immunity to the "when day break" scenario, because he said that the subject is not dead and the pestilence creeps up when they r not prepared just like when day breaks

I feel like the first interview with Dr. Sherman SCP-049 actually kind of feels kind of sad for doing that to Dr. Hamm because he kept pausing and it kept saying that it's breathing kept changing.
That or it's intimidated by Dr. Sherman
Or it's back story with the sickness because after saying anything relating the pestilence is I.....Cured him. I....Saved him. He...was sick. You get the drift? I think he has a sad backstory with it and is afraid to speak about it which can mean why he dodges all the questions relating about it.

I felt pure terror at “oh doctor, I wouldn’t be too sure…”, what a fabulous piece of fiction
He seems to genuinely care about Dr. Hamm. He seemed very emotionally overwhelmed when Dr. Hamm was struck with the disease, seeing how he became a mess during the ending of the interview afterwards.
Its heartbreaking, in a strange way.

Or old age. Humans were not made to live as long as they do now. They constantly mentions rot and rust. Which is why they said it was running rampant out side and killed the doctor. Also a lot of the staff here don't get very old which is why the haven't really had any violent reactions

I believe that The Pestilence to SCP-049 is imperfection. “The cure to end all cures,” “Only one ailment.” He implies that once the pestilence is cured, so will everything else.
I do honestly wish with the update of 049 changed the interviews so that they had simply asked for symptoms of the pestilence and for 049 to show how it manifests instead of berating 049's actions.

Not every has the pestilence but very living human will die one day
And it seems like it’s mostly humans who get the pestilence since 049 was more happy to get animals that were closer to human biology
Plus he talks about death more than once and never dose he call something like death as the pestilence
He also doesn’t refer to dead things as something along the lines of victims of the pestilence you would think he would just like how if someone dies of an illness we say that’s what they died of or call them a victim to that illness
But he just calls them dead

Theory: I belive that the "pestilance" is human emotion, such as compation and empathy, thats why most doctors (esspecialy in the foundation) are forced to "remove" these emotions to not let them get in the way of their work, (this ofcoarse differs from person to person, not saying that doctors are soulless monsters who lack human emotion) such as SCP 049 himself who rarely shows any compation for anyone he "cures", i remember while reading the file, there was an instance when SCP-049 was in transfer, where he said directly to the doctor overseeing him that "he could not sence the pestilence in him" and that "he knew he was a doctor, like himself".
As for the animal reanimation i dont have a clue, under no prior readings of SCP-049's file did i find any mention of him reanimating animals.

(49 said that the foundation facility was clean of this sickness, and I think it may be because almost everyone in there does not feel any of these things toward anything)

The Foundation (most of it) doesnt really have those even with their resources they could quite literally take over the world and run it (as stated in another scp-entry)

I think that love or affection is a kinda cool idea but also 049 dose show emotions and a type of affection (like affection for a friend) towards the other doctor before he gains the pestilence so I don’t think it’s that either
Perhaps it’s something like hate or malice
Some kind of negative emotion
And sure having a tiny bit of anger is okay because it’s like getting a small cold
But then things like hate for a entire kind of people (since according to some sources SCP 682 has the pestilence) or just extremely hate for say life or people or something like that is more along the lines of stuff like the Plague or Ebola
And hate can spread from person to person

If you are around someone who hates something or they talk about what they hate to you it’s a good chance you’ll hate the thing as well
But some people just can’t be swayed some people won’t hate something just because someone else also hates that thing
And 049’s cure would make it so those things couldn’t feel hate all they do is attack but they don’t feel the emotion of hate
My only problem with my own idea is that the foundation is apparently very clean and has little trace of the pestilence yet you would think most people in that place would hate everything so I’m not all that sure
If I remember correctly one of the main theories on what the pestilence was is that it was Freewill/creativity and the reason he did not detect in the doctors was because they follow strict protocols with little to no deviations.

Making people undead doesn't even prevent death anyways because zombies will eventually rot or just simply die of no access of calories. And while he had his human zombies get killed by the Guards because they became violent he wasn't pissed or upset he was "pleased with the results". I don't think it's aging ethier because the 4 animals he tested on were dead which means you can't age when your dead. If his pestilence is aging than his "touch" would be the cure and he would kill people "curing" them. Me to am trying to find out what pestilence is I've been watching this video and others over and over but I still can't crack it the Author is truly the writing god.

And what you said about the bodies decaying and rotting that’s probably what he’s trying to prevent via continuing his “research.” He may think death is the key to prevent aging; he believes he’s helping in his own sick way. At least how I see it.

My theory: A plague doctor was working on a cure for the plague where he stumbled on his ‘Cure’ when attending a patient who had the plague (in medieval times of course). He tested it and then he saw that the 049-2 never died nor felt sickness, so he did his ‘cure’ to himself and became the same thing as 049-2 himself, but he has the plague doctor suit covering what he actually looks like.

8.30 I love how casual Scp 49 sounds while he’s trying to remember something, in other videos he’s always serious.
Strange how SCP-049 actually shows some human emotion.
That part where he kept repeating over and over again that he cured Dr. Hamm made me feel really sad for SCP-049, it sounded like he was trying to convince himself that he helped him. He wants to help.
I wonder if part of it is that, of he admits to himself that it doesn't exist, he would have to admit to himself that all the deaths he's caused have been for nothing.

In fact they have to much to contain every month they kill a D-Class that has spent one month in the site which can be fresh corpses for 049. Them removing 049 to have more bodies because a death of a scientist seems kinda funny to me because the foundation has breaches every once and a while that kill 40% of their staff and they have a Nuke in every site to blow up is a breach is uncontrollable like they can give zero shits who works there.

@@moneyhoarder123 depending on your take for canon, the foundation will snatch up all kinds of people when d class supply drops. Simple prisoners without death sentences, homeless people off the street and more. But even with every method in the world, they'd never be able to keep their body count up with just our earth's supply alone. They'd burn through people to use and disappearances would skyrocket throughout the world. Which is why I'm convinced they leverage scps to acquire more d class without needing to run the prison population dry.

His attempts of saving everyone from what he calls 'the pestilence' is a very nice act of kindness. Yet I sadly think there might be some delusions mixed with this belief of pestilence for I have never heard of it either. But listening to Scp-049s voice makes me sense some insisting and determination to continue what he's doing, the urge to his belief his cure will save others. I feel bad.
