Really enjoyed this video. Loved the Planeswalker series but I agree, it’s nice to see a slightly higher playing level (Removal!!!). Can’t wait to see how this series plays out! Also, Travis’ face at 49:35 - ‘That was a well named card’ lol
Another great episode of The Mana Cave. It’s always a pleasure to watch the show. Thank you so much guys ! I can’t wait to see the next episode (I’m a control player since 1996). Oh, and please say hello to Steve, would you.
I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos. And you've been a positive member of the community in the comments, so I'm happy I could give you shout out. 😀👍
I just bought the mono green, searching for some upgrades I found this video. I enjoyed a lot, regardeless it's a 1h video I watched all of it from the start to the end. Great work guys, now I watch the next "azorius ctrl vs mono red". Cheers
You are the sole reason why I am still interested in MTG even though I am not playing them anymore. Oh and btw please make Travis wear the same Brainpulp cap like yours too 😊
Well I'm glad to hear you're still enjoying the videos even though you're not playing anymore. And I'll try to get Travis to wear one, but he's pretty particular about his fashion, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to. 😆
Hey, thanks for the shout out! Fyi, "el propio" means the very same, in the flesh, you are not wrong, he is, d'you know what I'm saying? Lol. I really enjoy your videos, and commenting makes feel like being part of the experience. Keep up the great work!
Yeah, I'm hoping to get those in just after they're released, but it may be a week or so after that till we can record the first match. We will be playing them on the Mana Cave though!
@@BrainPulp Dang, that's an unlucky draw. I hope it can hang on until the late game. Still though, in those kinda situations I prefer to look more at "how the deck feels" more than "if it won." You know?
I love the Dimir Rogues deck, but I felt there wasn't enough mill in it, and sideboarded some Ruin Crabs. God, those things are amazing in the early game for getting the cards out.
Nice suggestion! I'd be very curious to see how the deck would run with more focus on mill. Maybe not to the point of making it a second win condition, but at the very least so I could've gotten Travis graveyard to 8 a lot sooner.
That last game was really good. I don't like Magic games that are 4-5 turns long. Games like that, on which the initiative moved back and forth between you, was really exciting. However, for me, the mono-green deck is just too brutal. It's one hit after another, with several 3-cost creatures that consistently hit for 5 or more. That plus the usual combat shenanigans makes it a very hard deck to beat, unless it gets very unlucky with the draw. I'm really looking forward for that second match between Azorius and Mono-Red. A classic BrainPulp match with Ed playing blue control and Travis playing red aggro. Keep it up!
Yeah as both a player and especially as a content creator, games that are over in a flash are not my fav. After the first game in this match Travis and I said something along the lines of, "If this next game goes like this one, this will be a 20 minute video!" Granted we both talk enough that I'm sure we could have made it about an hour long no matter what, but still!
Great video guys. Kind of surprise at the outcome, but that’s Magic. As a side note, it did not matter in the game because what you did was legal. When a card with an X cost goes on the stack. The mana value of the spell is the amount of mana you put in to cast the spell not zero because it is an X spell. So if 2 mana is spent to pay its a 2 mana value spell and if 5 mana is spent to cast the spell it’s mana value is 5. So if Travis would have had 3 mana to cast Stonecoil Serpeant and 2 cards in the graveyard, Drown in the Loch would not have been able to counter the spell. While it’s on the battlefield it’s mana value is 0 so it can be targeted by Blood Chief’s Thirst unkicked. I apologize if my post sounds know it all in any way. I am not meaning for it to sound that way. I know you guys like to explain the interactions of cards when you play for newer players and thought this was worth posting.
Thanks for the heads up on the X cost on the stack vs on the battlefield! Luckily it didn't end up mattering in this particular situation, but it easily could have, so info like that is always useful for future games! 😃👍
great game, that rouge deck should have won but im not surprised that mono green did so well. it seems that mono green just has a ton of big creatures that seemed to just burn all the black removal. very enjoyable
Yeah I was beginning to realize the longer the game went, the less chance I had to win. And just when I felt like maybe I was turning things around, it was too late. 😜
Ha! Thanks. To be honest, almost everyone has been kind enough to tolerate our jabbering. And those who don't have been super polite about letting us know they're more interested in the gameplay. 😆
@@BrainPulp I like the banter. I don't think I've ever skipped it it once. You guys seem more approachable, more, well, human because you do. I know that might sound weird, but I mean it well.
Ed, i was wondering. Would you be interested to make an all rounds planeswalker tournament? Put every deck against each other and the deck with the most wins against others takes the win as the best planeswalker deck!
@@TabooX1984 You are probably right... Bolas' deck should participate but be excluded from the final crowning count should it win every match against it. This would prove that it's power level is above that of the typical planeswalker deck
So this is something I think would be fun, but would require so many extra recording sessions beyond the matches we've currently got planned, so I don't see it happening unless by some miracle I can start producing the Mana Cave twice a week. I do like the idea though. 😀
@@BrainPulp Aye, it is a lot of matches but not only will it let you revisit old decks and put them against them, it will also allow us to see how each generation fares against the others!
Wow, not to drop spoilers but I really expected more from the losing deck. It has been such a pain in standard! But the power of those eldraine cards can't be underestimated. Can tell you guys enjoyed the extra power these decks provide over the planeswalker decks and it is fun to see. I enjoy these precons but I'd love to see some of your own personal brews too. All the best, you guys are great 👍.
To be fair, the current iteration of the losing deck in Standard is a very different deck. It looks very much like the earlier versions of the archetype, which turned out to be considerably weaker than the fine-tuned versions that emerged later.

At 56:52 how did Travis get to attack with his lovestruk beast if he had no human beside him to attack or is it bc of the planeswalker?
Lovestruck doesnt need a human, just a 1/1

Pour Vardman. 🤣
Awesome match, can't wait to see how the Azorius one rolls.
Yeah, I've got high hopes for that deck. But it's up against mono-red aggro, so it'll be an uphill battle I think.

I'm planning to buy one of these decks. Guess which ~
My guess would be Dimir Rogues because I just made it look oh so appealing. 😆

@@BrainPulp I also picked up some Didn't Say Please, but I have lost games in Arena just to those damnable crabs, so they get the mention.
When the fight happens, the sorcery is still on the stack. So the vampire won't get the additional power, to gain you 1 more life.
Yep! You're right. Luckily it didn't make a difference in the game!

Not that this would change anything. The stonecoil serpent X=2 making its cmc 2 not 0. X=0 only outside the stack and if you cast an X spell for free.
I'm happy when Travis wins.
Then you and Travis have something in common. 😜

Good games! I’m excited to see the next one. I think the azorius control deck is underrated and may take the whole thing.
I hope you're right! And not just because I'm the one playing it. Mostly I just want to see mono-red lose for once!
I’m a fan of blue and it’s great to see some counter spells in these decks. Going to be cheering for the Az control deck in the next episode.
