    Great video, nuanced and complex as it should be. Just when I think I've nailed my teaching and learning materials for my global health students.... Greg Martin ups the game. Thanks again Greg!

    Another great video Greg. I wish more people could see this. In my opinion many focused on developing countries are sleepwalking in the last century, not realising the NCD burden that already exists in those countries and the effect it is having on people and health systems.

      I couldn't agree with you more Niall - thanks for your insightful comment! Are you enjoying the snow in Dublin?

      Hi Greg, thanks for that. Yes, we are enjoying the snow though I was due to leave for Tanzania today. Hopefully, I can get out tomorrow. Going to a Burundian refugee camp in the west of the country. Should be interesting.

    Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most dangerous situation in india. One can easily buy any kind of antibiotic like 4th or 5th gen cephalosporins in any pharmacy with out doctors prescription . This made mdr TB to XDR TB .

    Great and succinct video, many thanks. But: a double burden of diseases... isn’t it a contradiction of “transition”? The original theory published in 1971 came on the back of the experience of tremendous successes of large-scale vaccination programs hence might have promoted a belief of an imminent global win on infectious diseases. But as you show at the end: this was celebrating too early. Hence, I prefer teaching my students about how a change in disease patterns led us to belief (in the 1970s until ? The 90s) in a epidemiological transition, but the experience in sub-Saharan Africa and other nations, plus the most recent re-emergence of certain infectious diseases calls us to put this transition model to rest. And be open to the new challenge ahead!

    Do you think chronic/infectious will eventually win out against the other in the future and be more predominant? Or will there be spots or clusters of one or the other depending on the location?

    • @gregmartin
      @gregmartin  6 лет назад

      Thanks for the very interesting question! I think that we'll have clusters depending on location. In a globalising world, however, the boundaries of locations are likely to become fuzzier.

    This is an incredible example of group think. He just told people in developed countries that they are going to be sick way more often because of globalization. I think the people in developed countries ( not this group) are catching on and deciding to resist globalization.

    I like how developing countries get called out when the USA has not a single system of national health care. Capitalism is bad.
