Let me break this down:
DJI Spark is for casual use. Or some would say, 'a hobbyist drone'. There are obviously more affordable and better drones available than the Spark. But what you are paying here for is the reliability, portability, and the brand. The Spark is something like what a Point and Shoot camera is considered in the camera world.
Next up, The DJI Mavic Pro. I wouldn't call it a "hobbyist" drone. Its more of a prosumer drone. It is for shoots that don't demand crazy quality. Its the perfect RUclipsr drone. Its something that a vlogger can throw in his/her backpack and they can get amazing cinematic shots for their vlogs. In short, its the must-have every-day RUclips drone. The Mavic is something like what a Canon 80D and Sony a6500 are considered in the camera world.
The DJI's new Mavic Air sits between the Spark and the Mavic Pro. Like the Spark, its also made for casual use but it has a higher video resolution. So its kinda like what a high-end Point-and-shoot camera is considered in the camera world.
Next up is the Phantom 4 Pro. While the Mavic is a prosumer drone, the Phantom is a PROsumer drone. Its something that you would use when you're shooting something like a professional RUclips video. It's great to use in RUclips short films. In short, its a professional drone for RUclipsrs. Phantom Pro is something like what the Canon 5D and Sony A7s are considered in the camera world.
The last but not the least, the DJI Inspire drones. These are made to use in high end shoots, like when shooting a commercial. Its something that makes a lot of sense in indie production houses, since DJI has another line of even more expensive drones for hollywood films. The DJI Inspire is something like what the Canon C200 and Sony FS7 are considered in the camera world. While the more expensive drones are something like what the RED Epic and RED Weapon are considered in the camera world.

How would you compare the spark camera to that of a smartphone?
Mitchell Sayer That is very hard to since some smartphones have very simple camera interface and produce superb photos (pixel 2, X) while others offer pro modes and still makes good pics on auto ( P20 pro, U11). So there is no such thing as a professional grade only camera on a smartphone so the highest you can compare a smartphone camera with a drone is probably a Mavic or a Phantom.

Thing is most people commenting here are enthusiasts. Unless you're a perfectionist or getting paid to shoot drone footage the Phantom 4 pro and Inspire are both too big to carry around. You won't realise how much of a hassle it is until you've been lugging it around all day.
The Mavic is the most portable by far and will be the one that gets used the most. Like a smartphone it's the one that most people will carry on a day to day basis.

I'm looking to get a Mavic simply because my Phantom's are just so bulky to load and carry to jobs. My clients mostly post to Instagram and Facebook only anyway, so the upside of "better IQ" is lost to compression anyway.

You are definitely right in my opinion, I use a Yuneec Q500 for Wedding venue photography and carrying around two cases ( back up ) all day gets tiring and worry some.

You're review of the Mavic Pro and your obvious liking of it a few months back was the reason I got the same drone. Your today's review just proved that I made the right choice. Among the three, it's the only one that has the highest rating for two out of three essential factors. A drone is a drone and, it should be easy to use, and not that expensive to lose in case it crash or something. Now with regards to camera quality, that's where creativity of a vlogger/filmmaker sets in. Even images from camera phones can be enhanced to look like excellent shots. I have a free e-book available for download for those who wants to produce quality results like those produced by using expensive pro cams, even if you're just using a low-end cam or iphone. :)

I agree with you. The inspire actually looks the worst. The video on the Mavic looks sharp and clear. It has great contrast and you can see all the detail. The inspire looks blurry, out of focus, and just hazy. Just don't get how people can say the Inspire looks better.

If you watch his marathon video a few vlogs back, he takes out his iPhone after his run and stared at it for 2 seconds and hesitated to say that it was "his phone", but in the end he did. I think he uses an iPhone for his day to day but shows his samsung more often on camera
He always has both on him I'm pretty sure. Probably uses the Samsung for work and the iPhone day to day for personal items.

TechTest but realy it does not the colors are more realistic aka vibrant on the inspire and if you could see the original footage it would a lot crisper then the video of the other drones
take a look at the dynamic range of the inspire, the shadows are bit more higher without overexposing
TechTest I think he might have the 'raw' camera for the inspire 1 so the footage is meant to be colour graded in after

Inspire 1 is old, there is now a Inspire 2. That's the one he should have used in this review.

The inspire definitely has more vibrant colors compared to the other two drones.
but it being so much more expensive I don't think vibrance is enough of a factor to spend $2k more.
there's a lot more that makes it better than the p4 and mavic for proffesionals
The inspire shoots 5.2k compared to the ph4 which is 4k. It also had a duel camera system (inspire 2) and a 360 degree camera rotation and the landing gear rises.
You can just up some saturation in post for that...
Like he said, it depends on what you are after. If you are doing paying jobs for footage that will be used in broadcast or whatever, you would not be taken seriously if you shot it on the other two. Judging footage via RUclips is pointless in that regard.

Well, I would argue with that, but that's not the point. The point is that RUclips only makes a little bit of money for him when you compare it to the amount of money that he made from his company. I think he's making "random videos" because he enjoys creating videos...
He had debt, he had investors. All those people get paid first. He pays taxes. He didn't come close to getting 25 million. That deal was a parachute to bail out his company and allow him to work for CNN. My guess is his CNN contract is pretty sweet.
Basically, if you just want a drone as a hobby, go Mavic. If you want a drone that is great to fly but even better with camera quality, go phantom. And if you are the richest person alive, go the Inspire. :)

The professional ones might look flat toned, that's because it provides more flexibility in post. The Inspire records in RAW, which might look terrible to the average viewer but is perfect for the filmmaker. That's why Casey said the Mavic has the worst image. :)

Agree dude. It's just that how many of his audience is/can view uncompressed video with proper colour correction (on their laptops)? Unless that's the case, the inspire looks washed out and the mavic surpasses it in image sharpness. Great for post but...

If anyone cannot see the difference between the images of the different drones (and i'm not talking even a judgement call, just objective differences) then I suggest, keep looking at the footage until you can. Until you can see the differences, than you're just point and shooting.

Have to disagree with Casey, based on this video the Phantom 4 pro took the cleaner, higher quality shots.
But because the Mavic is SO MUCH more COMPACT, it's WAY BETTER for traveling and THAT's what Casey does a lot of... TRAVEL.

Casey, your videos are top notch... what i would like to see, is a tutorial on how you put all your footage together and keep it straight for edits!!! I struggle sometimes with what seems to be MUCH less to sort threw. And your just so on spot. Like you don’t miss a beat. It must take some serious organization skills.

The most import feature of Inspire series is flexibility. It CAN change the sensors and lens just like our professional DSLR. Very powerful. Phantom 4 Pro is like SONY RX100. A very good balance between features. Mavic is like the camera of high end mobile phone.

Very solid points that you have made! I currently have a Mavic Pro and do small scale low budget videos for Instagram and youtube clients. The Mavic really does add a good amount of production value to any video shoot, but if I was to start doing more high budget professional shoots then the Inspire Pro would be my next move. On a side note I know of a few very high budget production companies that use the Mavic Pro for certain shots when out in very remote locations in the desert and Mexico. It's really difficult to fit a Inspire pro in a backpack while riding a dirtbike in those situations.

If your good at post, and on a budget, the Mavic Pro makes more sense than the Phantom 4 Pro. But regardless, the inspire beats both.

DJi (un)Inspire 1 Pro is just like a Mac, 2-3 times more expensive for worse performance.
no it is way better. the comparison doesnt give it justice. The inspire pro can shoot in 5.2k in apple pro res which has a bitrate of 4.2gb/s. The phantom shoots in 4k at 100mb/s. If you view uncompressed video with proper colour correction the inspire destroys it.

Well if you're a film director, then maybe, but it looks to me that the field of view on the Phantom is wider, and in my opinion, more appealing than the Inspire, the Inspire does have a more natural field of view, but when going for aerial shots I'd want to fit more in.

Supposedly the Phantom has a 2km extra operational range, double the flight time, 6,000 meter flying altitude... compared to inspires supposed 120 meter flying altitude.
I might eat my words when I see raw footage on a 5k display, but the operational abilities, the price, and the wider field of view makes it far superior in my opinion.

Exactly. Even if RUclips were ready the mediums on which we watch youtube USUALLY arent ready for 4k either. Meaning, you cannot tell the difference between high quality 1080p and 4k on a phone or laptop.

Tennessee Native if u shoot at 1080p60 u will see the mavic is useless. it has some major issues. that being said, 4k 24/30 is flawless but once low light hits, it doesn't have the dynamic range they pro 4 has. gopro sensor vs. 1" sensor.
