  • Results of having a TDI tuning box fitted to my Jaguar XE 2.0 Diesel R-Sport.
    Apparently the tuning box should have the following results:
    Power = from 180ps to 238ps
    Torque = from 428nm to 509nm
    Fuel efficiency increase of up to 20%

    I just purchased the TDI box and this thing is amazing! Very noticeable power increase in the 6,7 maps , a lot more boost and comes in earlier too. Very impressed!

    When doing a 0-60 hold your left foot on the brake pedal and build revs to 2k then let foot off the brake. Takes away the turbo lag and takes another second off the time.

    • @UKDrivingTest

      I have heard that is how you do a launch on super cars, but never thought it would work on a saloon.
      Have you done this on your XE?

      @@UKDrivingTest I have a 2015 xf 200ps which was 0-60 in 8 secs I put a blue spark tuning box on which claims 248bhp and use this method for a quick take off especially at junctions etc and my 0-60 is now 6.7 sec

    i have a 2.0d XE and have a TDi tuning box, if you manually change gear at 3500rpm youll find the huge torque will help you get going much quicker, remember diesels get best performance using the low down torque - not going to top revs
    And yes i have found the tuning box improves performance noticably

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  4 года назад +1

      So change gear at 3,500rpm?
      I will have to try that and see. My understanding was you get best performance if you changes gear just before max revs, going to max revs (red area) often results in a drop of power, this is based on information in police drivers advanced driving books / advise, also same advice given by racing instructor on a track day, where he was advising when to change gears. But maybe that is petrol? Different for diesel as they have stronger torque at lower speeds.

      Ideally having a dyno measurement of power at wheels done you have to shift at a point where you get the same power at wheels before/after shifting.
      If the engine has the same power at 3500 and 4000 rpm it means it has less power at 4000 at wheels.

      @@UKDrivingTest petrol engines you use higher end of the revs
      diesel you use the benefit of better low range torque
      so doing manual changes with your foot down at about 3500rpm youll get to 60 far quicker

      @@UKDrivingTest As a police trained driver you are on the right lines here but not quite. We take the revs using two points, first is peak BHP which occurs later in the rev range and peak Torque which depending on petrol or diesel happens a good bit apart. BHP is close to the redline and torque is mid range (the push in the seat feeling) It's even more complicated on modern cars as they have greatly improved a combination of both across the rev range but in diesels, short shifting does work in getting the best balance of both!

    Is it necessary to check mirrors when pulling off from waiting at traffic lights? Would you get marked down for not doing this on the driving test?

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  4 года назад +11

      Checking mirrors before moving off in traffic is something I would always do, in particular the left and right mirrors, as there could be cyclists or motorcyclists filtering thought and being aware of them is just a good idea, especially being aware of a motorbike as you might choose to move over for them to give them more space, they will be very grateful.
      However, as it is not a major safety issue it is not marked on the UK driving test, but the examiner will be very pleased if you do the checks.

      It is difficult to tell, there are so many factors that effects MPG it is hard to do a 'fair test' to compare it.

      Dont expect anything more than a second without actually changing turbo’s injectors etc. for just a map tune 1s is a lot faster. Dont expect a 3.0 out of a 2.0 with a small tune box lol

  • @sonictheplushhog6328

    Completely useless test... The difference could well have been because your window was closed on the TDI box test...
    I was going to get a TDI box but seen they do not do what they say on a Dyno!!

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 года назад

      I don't think the window would make that much difference, but from personally experience it does feel different, of course no way to know, without dyno, if the BHP figures are correct or not.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 года назад

      It depends what you want, if you want guaranteed results then pay more for a permanent remap and dyno. Of course this might then invalidate your warranty.
      If you want to save some money and have ability to remove it then this is for you.

    My scirocco 1.4 tsi goes 0-60 quicker than ur 20-60🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  4 года назад +1

      According to parkers a VW Scirocco 1.4 tai does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and weights 1271kg, so 0.03 seconds slower than 20-60 in this video. But not taking into account the 'official' figures are often off, and also road is damp when testing as the aim of the test was not to max out figures, but to see if there was a difference.
      XE does 0.60 in 7.9 according to official figures, weighing 1490kg, so XE heavier as much larger car.
      My XE is a diesel, your scirocco is probably a petrol, so completely difference cars, like playing top trumps every cars is going to have better and worst stats than others.
