I'm an oldtime and BG fiddler and I love playing this, and improvising with it. Your version is so much finer than the others I found!
This might be my favorite of all the tunes you guys have done. Sebastian’s tight and controlled rhythm playing really shines when the bass tones come in. Well played, fellas.
Thanks you Erik, it's great to hear you're enjoying this one, especially Sebastian's driving guitar. We loved recording this one, it's also a favourite of ours!
What a wonderful tune. Thanks.
Thanks, Christoph!
I found this tune on the session and this was the first recording I have heard of it. LOVE IT! Thanks! :)
Very nicely played
Sounds like a pretty nice pórt.
Love your playing, do the neckbelly reel. Also love the striped shirts.
A delightful tune, played with panache! There are dots for it on The Session.org and someone noted a similarity to a trad tune, Astley's ride. That's TM for you :-)
Would Sebastian mind if I ask about the capo in the second fret? You're playing in D so are you tuned down a tone or fingering C,F,G shapes in concert? Or am I completely off beam? It still looks like standard tuning. With a R hand to die for--just lovely. And mercifully, you can't hear me playing along with you but it's fun anyway! Thanks so much for putting it up.
Thank you for your kind words!
The tuning that I use in this video is CGCGCG with the capo on the 2nd fret. It is inspired by the way Roger Tallroth from the great swedish band Väsen tunes his 12-stringed guitars - it works very well for many kinds of folky music!
@@thegoodtunes Many thanks for that, Sebastian. I'd finally realised it couldn't be standard tuning from watching the bass runs but wouldn't have got that tuning--it's a brave man that takes the top string up to G! The bouzouki player in our session uses ADAD and blends melody and chords really well. I hadn't come across Roger Tallroth or Vasen before. So thanks for opening a door for me, onto these very fine musicians.
@Robert Shorthill Hi Robert, you'll find a couple of settings at thesession.org/tunes/2177 with printable sheet music and background info. It's a mine of information and most Irish tunes are on there.
It is a trad tune in the repertoire of Irish traditional tunes although modern.
Some Americans and other people "in the know" are fearful of playing tunes like that because of copyright.
I know what Vincent would say to such folk.
Are you in standard tuning (for the violin)?
Yes the violin is in standard tuning here
@@thegoodtunes 👍 thanks!! I’ll just slow it down then and learn it from you 😁 just making sure it wasn’t in cross A tuning.
