This evening Arthur Rubinstein is the third artists i have listened to performing Chopin's Polonaise. Still i never get tired listening to this extra ordinary composition. Thanks, RUclips for giving me the opportunity to watch our talented perform on stage! God bless.
wow! one of the most energetic performances i've ever seen from rubinstein
Piękno muzyki Fryderyka Chopina to fenomen graniczący z cudem ❤️. Wspaniałe wykonanie, bardzo dziękuję.
I keep returning to this. Such effortless tone production. Full throated but never harsh or forced in any way, But how? Is this a lost art? No one today can produce such a magisterial sound.
No other performance, not even among Rubinstein's many commercial recordings of the A-flat Polonaise, comes close to matching the power and nobility of this one. Endless thanks for posting it!
thank you for post it!!! I enjoy it sooo muchhh!! ;)
It moves me to tears. Rubinstein seems to have been one of the greater if not the greatest Chopin interpreter
Staggering--best performance of this piece that I've ever seen:)
On Chopin's 200th anniversary how inspiring to see a great performance by a great pianist of one of his greatest pieces.
This Polonaise was wrote for ME and this is how to play it , Fantastic the best recording i ever heard.
awesome awesome. thank you . more please!
un suono enorme...una carica strabiliante
un grande carisma...
Absolutely amazing.
This is a good recording, better than the other Rubinstein videos on RUclips. Thank you.
Are you fucking kidding me, aesthetic approbation is virtually impossible but this is completely outstanding.
Regardless of the record quality and some little mistakes, the best performance I have ever heard. Not only Rubinstein virtuosity, but the patriotic Polish soul that emerges from him in front of the Russians. Country which invaded Poland during Chopin times and ironically inspired him to compose some of his best and patriotic music. Bravo Rubinstein, Bravo Chopin.!!!
Normally I love Horowitz, but WOW Rubinstein played the Polonaise SO well here! Incredible technique, power, grace, freedom, and he sits with such authority and plays with dominance. The true embodiment of the polonaise spirit is presented here. Thank you for uploading this treasure.
brilliant!!!!
tanks for the video
I've watched at least four different videos of him playing this. But this if by far the most impressive I've ever seen out of any performance of this. Even in the one where he was 90, he still played like a champion. This is what real musicianship is all about. And this man has not only enormous technique, but titanic spirit and heart.
he hugely impacted me as a young pianist...the remarkable thing about this is that he was 77 years old at the time.
True...not the most precise or textured performance but my God....to get that kind of sound at that age! A performer to the end!
Great technique! Powerful and strong. Born for the concert stage!
there are no words! exceptional!
Brilliant performance !!!
Simply the best there ever was in my lifetime.
And the ending! Really generates the sparks!
Nobody can play this piece better than Rubinstein.
Leaves you speechless. As Popeyethedoc says, I wish there were more stars. Out of ten stars, I would give him at least eleven. Thank you for posting this.
This is the greatest performance for Polonaise that I`ve ever heard. Rubinstein rocks!!!
this is undescribeble...i will learn this as soon as possible and ill give my best!
What a tremendous Pianist Arthur Rubenstein was...there will never be another...Jack Baker NYC
A piece just powerful, just played as it have to be played. Rubinstein : a true master !
my g"d, I adore him so much!
for me he is THE greatest pianist ever!
and I do not think that there will be anyone who will be better than him!
Thanks for sharing!! :)
Breathtaking.
Yeah! I agree it´s the best performance of this piece!!
Those hands... that touch, amazing.
He sure was a showman - as well as a brilliant perfomer.
Arthur Rubinstein is and allways be the best piano performer, he's just blowing up the piano and get's out an impresion from the space arround him.
Respect Sir. Always 💝
Don´t tell me that i don´t know about music because i know and I say this because I think it is the best interpretation of this piece ever made and I love the way Rubinstein play this piece and i love how he played
wow!!! absolutely fantasic!
The best interpretation I´ve ever heard heard.
wow a comment of 12 years ago
I cant believe that sound and playing is so clear,still...
actually this is one of the best versions of the polonaise (I think), it doesn´t lack imagination. The rubato used, the tone, everything´s perfect
Rubinstein looks here pretty much as I remember him on the many occasions I heard him play in London. He was always, as much as great musician, a great performer, within which was included a degree of showmanship which has been out of fashion for many years. But I have never experienced from anyone else the excitement he could generate with a 3,000 audience in the RFH on a good day, especially with this piece; and this video does catch a little of that atmosphere and excitement.
Thanks.
a virtuoso piece played by a virtuoso - a delight to enjoy, and bugger the interpretation....!
Maravilloso......
BRAVO MAESTRO!!!
QUE BIEN, muchisimas gracias.
I've listened to Chopin for 30 years and I have only just realised...I'd rather listen to a performance, with the occasional wrong note than a note perfect rendition with less soul.
¡Magistral!
Just Perfect...!
Fantastic
I was at a performance of his, in DC circa 1963. I think he joked about how little he practiced, or used to practice. My mother drew a sketch of him on her program, and made me follow him off the stage (we were sitting in seats up on the stage) to get his autograph. He thought it was funny, little girl pushing her way backstage.;) Not sure if he made mistakes, but his joy in performing was just vibrant and contagious.
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is the integrity of the music that Rubinstein gets. To the unitiated Chopin seems to explode all over the place - in the wrong hands he becomes fragmented and fractured - but in R's hands he melts into the original intention. I believe Chopin is the greatest composer ever. And Rubinstein the nearest he on earth.
Great Rubinstein. Bravoooo !!!!
Bravo!!!
He´s a poet. He plays with real passion.
When people ask what it means that music is between the notes, they should be confronted with this video
I like the way he lifts himself off his stool at climatic points and throws his arms in the air for the bravura chord passages. He did the same thing when I watched him play the Brahm's second concerto around the same time as this recording. Amazing! Cziffra and Horowitz were often accused of showmanship but when fired up as here, Rubinstein could match them any time.
best ending I've heard for this piece. Wow
この演奏はちょっと叩きすぎてるけど^^;
Maestro!!!!!!!!!!!
beatiful
there was a comment several decades ago about rubinstein - in the 1960's when he and his contemporaries like richter, serkin, etc..were considered the standards of great performances and careers and it fits rubinstein:
"he may not have the technical wizardry of horowitz, or richter's flights of mysticism, or serkin's highly cerebral approach..but rubinstein had the sum of all with spontaneity and warmth of playing that spoke of life."
little memory wander around 5:43 - nicely covered. :)
he has SUCH amazing articulation =O
Maravilhoso!
This man is so good
He's wonderful! Best pianist out of them all!
The best pianists of today cannot compare to Rubinstein or Horowitz. They are truly world historic figures. The circumstances of their lives allowed them to bring the piano to life better than anyone else in history. They went through great turmoil personally, and it resulted in the best music ever recorded.
Genial Artur Rubinstein!
@ErnstJohannes I think it is from the 1st October 1964 recital, he played 2nd Sonata, Polonaises op. 44 and 53, Impromptu n. 3, Nocturne in D flat op. 27 n. 2, Barcarolle, 4 Etudes (op. 10 nn. 4 & 5 and op. 25 nn. 1 & 5), Waltzes op. 34 nn. 1 & 2 by Chopin, Des Abends by Schumann, Ondine by Debussy and O Polichinelo by Villa Lobos!
what an ending, so impressive
