The fact that she had to memorize the entire piece is quite shattering, I mean, she's blind, it's imposible for her to read sheet music. I would pay serious coin to hear Rachel play all three impressions of Karn Evil 9, and yes, I'll need a box of Kleenex too. Please Jeanie, pass along a big cyber hug for your daughter Rachel, she's wonderful.
Rachel and her friends here must have had a blast! I hope they all enjoyed sharing this music together as much as I enjoyed grooving with this video! Thank you for posting this mini-celebration of ELP's immortal music. Major bravo to the brilliant Ms. Rachel -- thank you for sharing your musical gifts with the rest of us here! ROCK ON!
I'm with Perry. Losing Keith was really tragic for me. Finding Rachel was a blessing for me. I watch these videos of her all the time. I miss ELP that much. I just wish someone would form a band and do a live show.
Keith Emerson's sad, tragic passing brought me here. Honestly, not expecting much...kinda like waiting for some kind of poor, pathetic kereoke-like performance... Wrong! As you took me through the whole opus...tears steaming down my cheeks...while shivers ran up my back. Well done! I could so hear the absolute love you have for this piece. Thank you Ms. Flowers! Thank you.
+Parry Hall Be sure to watch Rachel's versions of Malambo, The Endless Enigma/Fugue, Trilogy, Tarkus, Karn Evil 9, well, I could go on, but .. well, one more ... the entire Piano Concerto No. 1 (with flute). She also plays guitar (with Dweezil Zappa -- look up "Montana.") Yes, they're all that good.
Mine too! tears this gal got me back into my boards again after am almost two year hiatus -played professionally for almost 25-30 years so grateful for her. The music lives and breathes into my soul again screaming to get out!
Leo Ibarra well said, miss Keith and Greg but the music lives on musical angel Rachel she is beautiful I love her spirit, peace and love to all elp fans
When I need a keyboard boost, I always visit your latest ELP cover, you always lift my spirits, thanks Rachel, and your Mum and Dad who also deserve a special mention, without their dedication and loving support this video wouldn't have made it onto RUclips, from a Parent
I LOVE this song. This been one of my favote songs since the first heard it. I got to see it on person in he 70s. I cried at least seven minutes hearing this. I like ever better now. Great job. Still crying. This song is my youth, gone.
She is so into the music, it takes about a minute after a candle breaks on the floor before she asks, "What was that?"...."Why did it fall?"....all without breaking stride while playing some crazy Emerson stuff! Did I actually hear her vocalize Carl Palmer's gong crash? Beautiful!
She kills me! I like how she keeps going forward and nailing everything and she has a great feel. I can tell that the song's playing in her head as she's playing and she's hearing every part.
I am a fan of Rachel's incredible talent behind the keys. I was very saddened to hear the loss of Keith Emerson today. She really did an awesome job covering this piece and I can tell she is influenced by Keith's style. Please send my sincerest condolonces on the loss of her friend and musical hero. I am very happy Rachel got to meet Keith.
I've been one fan/friend of Rachel's (and mom Jeanie) for several years, and as a pianist, I revisit this, and wipe my eyes with joy about every 20 seconds. Love you both, and thanks again for my bit of happiness tonight!!! ♥
***** Jeannie, I don't know how you can live with such talent day to day. She is simply mind blowingly brilliant. (is blowingly a word?). I'll see if I can get into my next scrabble game.
Wow! This young lady is so damn talented. She really did this ELP classic justice. Rachel is just a natural talent at the keys. I bet Keith Emerson is very proud of her.
Let me crawl out from the musical rock I've been under. Is she world-renowned? If not, why not??? I've loved ELP since the early '70s (especially Emerson since I was taking piano lessons at the time). I dreamed of being able to come close to playing their stuff. And she's playing his parts as well as Lake's bass lines with her feet... PHENOMENAL!!! It doesn't matter that she's blind, just being able to recreate BOTH parts at the same time blows me away. Obviously she's a musical prodigy. Definitely have to watch her other videos.... I'm soooo green with envy of her talent! WOW!
Sometimes you come across something on RUclips which takes your breath away, gives you shivers and a even a tear to the eye. Until now I'd never heard of you, Rachel, and now I'm a fan especially after watching this impromptu performance of one of the first tracks that ever turned me on to playing keyboards and the magic of prog-rock. It takes a lot to make me swear but this performance is fucking outstanding! And thanks to Jeanie for having the fore-sight to capture it. :)
This brilliant young lady is one of the reasons that the music of Emerson Lake & Palmer is a show really will never end, and that reason is simply......superb talent
In May 2013... I had not even heard of you Rachel..... Now I get to sing this song on our awesome collaboration with you and the rest of the musicians!! And also other ELP songs as well..... So honored to have you as a player in my musical life! And thank you Jeanie... for without you... Rachel would not be where she is now... Lots of Love! Len
Would love to see this truly talented young woman tour the UK, especially Scotland. ELP fans (and indeed music fans!) would turn up in their droves to listen to this magical experience.
I AM AMAZED AT HER TALENT!!!!!!! Are you saying that this is all by ear!! I am blown away. As good or nearly as good as the original!!!!!!!!!! Mr & Mrs Flowers your daughter is true talent I am a hard time controlling my emotions. ELP's music got me through my teen age years!! A true talent!!!!! Amazing!!!!
"Cold and Misty morning, I Heard a warning born in the Air"... Toca igualito a Keith Emerson 👏👏👏👏
After all the clips that Rachel has done since, I keep coming back to this one. She's playing with the sheer joy of a child let loose in a sweet shop, exulting in the sound of a magnificent instrument. You can sense her mounting exhilaration as the piece progresses, the notes and phrases almost tumbling over each other to be played. She still brings that excitement to her playing today, witness her 'Fanfare' at Carl Palmer's charity show. Play on, Rachel.
This lady is an incredible talent. I visited Keith's grave in Sussex a couple of months ago. A regular plot among many other plots in a rural English cemetery. This man was a musical giant.
Renato Filho Hi Renato. The address is Lancing & Sompting Cemetery, Upper Boundstone Lane, Lancing, West Sussex, BN15 0PB. The great man is at rest near the far end, by the far right hand path.
This play through just shows what a great piece of composition Karn Evil 9 is. Great playing Rachel and RIP Keith. One of my all time favourite musicians gone and a true god among men in the musical stakes.
Rachel nails it note for note as usual. Timing is impeccable. It's great to see her play as it visually illustrates the complexity and sophistication of Keith's work.
She makes me tear up and my emotions ignite with the passion I felt when I first started listening to ELP in the '70's and my love for music! Thank you Rachel!
OMG Im in tears. This is note for note. So moving! Single most moving, loved album, this side of Tarkus!!!!! xxxxx SUBBED, Bless her Heart! xxxx R.I.P Keith, you really were a keyboard wizzard!
I discovered Rachel's excellent playing a few days ago, through an ELP Facebook group. I have watched several of her excellent performances now, which are a great, authentic tribute to Keith Emerson's brilliant musicianship. RIP Keith.
Since discovering Rachel, I just bought a Blu-ray of "Hearing is Believing." If you've not yet picked up a copy of the DVD or Blu-ray, you really should. I love Rachel's progressive rock stuff. What a great young woman!
Seeing Rachel live has been on my bucket list for some time. This gave me goosebumps. Incredibly uplifting, fabulous rendition of one of Keith's true masterpieces! Acquitted here with distinction!❤
I am just BLOWN AWAY by this. I never even heard of Rachel before but I saw ELP in the early and mid 70's numerous times and she is so spot on. With the nostalgia for Keith Emerson at its height she really should take this on the road, I think the reaction would be overwhelming.
Fantastic. I memorised the bass parts when I was in my teens in the 70’s. This is a stunning performance, but also goes to show what a great piece of music this is. Probably my favourite musical passage at least from the 70’s, if not for all time. A joy to watch 👍
I could watch her videos all day long. I was an ELP fanatic in the 70's and I just love how she carries on the music. I would definitely pitch in to get her a Moog.
I love Rachel Flowers, everytime i listen to her playing, my eyes fill with tears because the emotion and the great memories she brings back to me with her music. she makes me feel like listen to this music for the very firts time
Watching this just makes you appreciate Emerson's composition. Incredible that this young female can play this. For those who do not know keyboards this is incredibly dextrous work at the very highest level incorporating, rock, jazz, classical music. Only prodigies could play this and copy note for note and this lady playing without music. I would suggest that there are only two people who can/could play this piece, one who composed it and one who is playing it here.
Hi Jeanie, thanks so much for re-posting this! Rachel's playing always makes me smile, and frequently reduces me to tears. What she does goes far beyond channeling Keith's nonpareil stylings - she captures his intent. I've heard ELP in concert many times since working on one of their first Toronto appearances (in 1971.) I've interviewed Keith and Greg, regularly return to their classic albums, and yet I have no idea what's going on here. Rachel is simply a phenomenon! Wish I could've been there.
Thanks for this, Rachel--this is my favorite song! I can now watch and listen to you perform Tarkus, Trilogy, and Karn Evil 9 1st Impression...all the music that shows the greatness of ELP. You are a treasure, and we love you.
The flawlessly accurate technique, the super-sensitive ear that deciphered this complex music, and the absolute command of the Emerson style, make watching this a joyous experience. But for me, the best part is Rachel's happy reaction at the end.
I met Keith Emerson only once he was so affable and spent much time talking ,his not being here is sad,but,...and also his music is to me is so 'underrated' as they say. Great job on this..also I happened to see your version of 'Zombie WUlf'...yeah rocking.!...
Ok read the description and I’m totally blown away by the fact that this was her first time playing a Hammond. Sounds like she’s been playing it her whole life.
On an analog organ no less. Yes another set of tear filled eyes in remembrance of a keyboard hero, and my own fading youth. Thank you Rachel for an incredible cover.
She did this off the cuff at a party, on an instrument she'd never played before. She knows more about music than any human on earth. Rachel Flowers is the greatest musician that has ever lived.
4FrakkinReal & Scott...with all due respect, while my statements may sound like hyperbole, I'll stand by them. The videos only give a hint of what she can do performance-wise. Then there is her composing, arranging, orchestrating and recording skills. Just wait until you get a taste of those. No one comes near the breadth of what she can do.
I was always in awe of Keith's abilities on the keys, and I was a HUUUGE fan of ELP since they first hit the airwaves in the 70's. Rachel has a phenomenal talent given that she does all of this by ear, and definitely captures the essence of Keith's music. There are many people doing covers of K.E. music, but Rachel is in another league. I just saw another video where she plays guitar, and another where she plays piano doing her own material. Lotta chops in one package. Just one question: Can she fix my transmission?
Not only can she fix your transmission, she can revise the design in a CAD package and then organise the prototypes and final production.......and turn up and fit it for you, all while drinking tea and munching on dark chocolate digestive biscuits. A kiss on your cheek and then on her way, to perfect her next performance of ELP.
so wonderful..i knew elp since 1977 when i was 17 years old...and found rachel flower so great.she had met to keith before he died..I got LPs of elp complete..and very recognize songs of elp...may rachel will visit to indonesia...i welcome her so warm and much
Just discovered this incredible talent yesterday......better late than never!!! Jeanie, assuming you are her mom. You have an angel in your midst. Jennifer captures this music of the 1970’s like it’s her own....and it is. Can’t wait to hear more of her performances. I have no idea where she lives, where she plays....but I’d come to see here anywhere!!!! Thank you so much, Jennifer, for doing this iconic music of our beloved Keith Emerson, keeping his legend alive, but also making it yours! You are simply awesome, lady!!! No one living has done Keith like YOU. Congrats!! Hope to hear more of you in the future. Thank you so much.
Actually, ELP played all of Karn Evil 9 a number of times. The most notable occasion was on their live album "Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends" - taken from the famous intro to Part 2 (a shoutout to the time constraints of vinyl) - and this version is the epic closer for that album, clocking in at 35 minutes and 17 seconds.
OH MY, Absolutely UNBELIEVEABLE! Over the past 30 years, I’ve listen to Karn Evil Nine, literary thousands of times to the point where I know every note by heart Rachel plays it PERFECTILEY. I would not have believe it had I not seen it with my own eyes. What an incredible talent you are Child. I know Keith is a musical genius but what makes you interested in ELP? Keith better be brushing up, or he may not have any more Job security…=)~ Put out more Rachel, I’ll be here listening!
Keith's spirit is alive in Rachel! Thanks for the music. 😄
*HE IS ALIVE AND A POLTERGEIST!!! **2:32** IS PROOF!*
The fact that she had to memorize the entire piece is quite shattering, I mean, she's blind, it's imposible for her to read sheet music. Here's Rachel playing the 2nd Impression.... ruclips.net/video/wPGoWvIRY4M/видео.html
Here's a version of Rachel playing the second half of the 3rd Impression....like it's nothing. Spooky good.
ROCK ON!

Young lady you give me goosebumps listening to you play. I live ELP. I got to see them twice . Hearing you play makes my day

what you need to know here Keith Emerson was her mentor.
I love watching Rachel’s videos - absolute musical genius.
Emerson is God...Rachel an Angel...

The Best, incredible
We are so totally blown away by Rachel. We're so astounded at her talent. She literally makes us cry! Keith needs to meet her and watch her play.
I'm sure Keith is looking down on this incredibly talented young lady and beaming with pride!!
She is so into the music, it takes about a minute after a candle breaks on the floor before she asks, "What was that?"...."Why did it fall?"....all without breaking stride while playing some crazy Emerson stuff! Did I actually hear her vocalize Carl Palmer's gong crash? Beautiful!
Good heavens. I cried.Totally amazing. I kept looking around for Greg and Carl! Thanks, kid!
+isaac collier And she is blind..... amazing.
She kills me! I like how she keeps going forward and nailing everything and she has a great feel. I can tell that the song's playing in her head as she's playing and she's hearing every part.

All my life I've waited to hear someone sit at the church organ and play this song. If you ever do that, I wanna see it. ☺
Long live Rachel Flowers, and ELP ! God bless you young lady !!!
Wow! This young lady is so damn talented. She really did this ELP classic justice. Rachel is just a natural talent at the keys. I bet Keith Emerson is very proud of her.
+Jennifer Felan You bet...? They met each other! And Keith WAS proud!
Wow! I have also seen some of her videos of her jamming with Dweezil Zappa on the Frank Zappa covers she did. She is a very talented musician.
She's really not that good

she never goes for anything simple and easy she goes all the way , her guitar work with dweezil zappa is beyond awesome as well one talented woman.

Rachel Flowers is the greatest musician that has ever lived.
Maybe not the greatest who has ever lived. But certainly one of the greatest alive now.
was gonna say where she fiddles to get the settings right.. That's where an over dub would be..
***** Just curious, has Rachel ever taken a shot at Abaddon's Bolero, or is that track too Lake & Palmer heavy to solo on keyboards alone?
love the enthusiasm but seriously she is truly remarkable and gifted but let's not get carried away

The laughter at the end by Rachel is AWESOME!
so wonderful..i knew elp since 1977 when i was 17 years old...and found rachel flower so great.she had met to keith before he died..I got LPs of elp complete..and very recognize songs of elp...may rachel will visit to indonesia...i welcome her so warm and much
Rachel ... WE LOVE YOU!!! :-)
It isn't how it looks it's how it sounds.. Rachel is amazing
Thrilling!
Great playing. Keith would be proud.
8 years later and this is still the best cover version, arguably better than ELP's own live version(they almost never played part1).
Brain, salad never brought tears to my eye's but this angel has heaven sent masterpiece from another genius
She is SO amazing! I'm a big ELP fan from their early days and Rachel blows my mind!
You are a genius!!! a virtuoso!!! You made my day!!!! ELP performed at its best!!! You should go on tour!!! great !! thank you!!
DAMN, that was one hell of a performance! She was just dancin' all over those keys!
Your playing is more than outstanding Rachel , Keith Emerson must have been SO proud
