  • McGill campground is one of the best places to camp near Los Angeles. It is only an hour and a half! It is located in Los Padres National Forest. It is mainly a first come first serve campground.
    Please let me know if you have any questions. Here is the campsite website.

    My GF took me to Mt. Pinos many years ago on a day trip. There's a road that goes over a hill to some tremendous views. What really freaked me out was a sea of tarantulas crossing the street. It looked like a horror movie!

    • @Juan-Blasquez

      I'm pretty sure that McGill campground is closed at the moment. For a big group you might want to look into Cachuma lake campground, they have showers, flushing toilets, big group campsites and it's next to a lake, you can rent a boat as well.

    Do people show up there during summer on a weekend? I was only there once and I was surprised how empty it was. So since there are no bear boxes (and people) I was always a little hesitant to go back.

    • @Juan-Blasquez
      @Juan-Blasquez  6 месяцев назад

      Ya I don’t know why they don’t have bear boxes. And every time we’ve been there is super empty, like one or two more campsites with people, but I love that about it. One day we went after a holiday weekend and the garbage was super full, the camp host told me that it was full. I love that place.

      @@Juan-Blasquez Was that on a weekend when it was so empty? Bc my other option is Buckhorn campground. But that's first come first served and does get full on weekends. So if you get there late on a Friday with kids and it's full then it sucks.

    • @Juan-Blasquez
      @Juan-Blasquez  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for your comment, glad you liked the video. It’s really hard to remember the site number but I believe it was 66, it’s a first come basis, not reservable online. You can reserve online and show up and look for a better site, just make sure you check with the host to see if you can switch.

      I don't know what "closer" is to you but near Lompoc, there's Jalama Beach. It's kind of pricey but you're right on the beach in assigned spots. This was the best place that I've ever experienced seeing the Milky Way as if someone painted it on the night skies! I've only seen it once in our many camping trips there.
