- There are loads of games out there that you can't buy anymore, or even re-download, because of various legal reasons that aren't always explained. Here are just a few of the games that got unexpectedly unlisted from online stores.
Cheers to Soapywarpig for use of her P.T. reaction!

Want to play P.T.? LEGO Lord of the Rings? Well tough luck, as they, and many other games, are not on sale anymore for weird and mysterious reasons... 🤨

This WAS the one, though, and it was totally finished and spot on:

I was thinking the same thing. I find it ironic that as much as I despise piracy, it is often the only means of preserving old games, music albums, and movies that are no longer commercially available. For example, we can still play the entire Commodore 64 library of games thanks to pirates.
I miss the “The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth” -games .. they were so much fun

@@TheWererapter92 absolutely
Why does the president of konami seem to have a crippling fear of wealth and success?
Good question, and why'd they let Kojima leave when he was the genius behind their bestselling games
Proof: MGS 1-4 sold millions of copies. MGR was a joint with PlatinumGames but still sold the same amount of copies, maybe a little less because some gamers don't know good quality. MGSV (when Kojima left Konami) barely broke the average of the previous games in the series
Just goes to show that when you take Hideo Kojima's name off the box, you lose like 1/3 of your sales, and I'm lowballing
Konami is worth more than Ubi and Square combined. They just don't give a shit about making games anymore.
vaevictusdeus Casino machines make a lot of 💵
@@mc-ps-playa5569 plus im going to take a stab and say that kojima probably slighted the guys upstairs somehow, and they are vindictive assholes, so they being bastards just took their toys and went home
Man if I can only win the Mega Millions lottery or the billion Lottery go buy all the stocks Konami
"No longer available for sale"? So they're available for....pirating????
Aha! This guy gets it
Yahar.
And this is why physical media will never die.
N(YES)O
Basically
Getting rid of kojima and replacing silent hills with metal gear: survive......we should give Konami a trophy for making two of the worst business decisions in one event
Not just digital games, I remember playing a great board game "King Oil" that was only out for a year before being yanked from the shelves over alleged copyrighted material.
I think if a game is actually going to die like this I think it should become legal to make it available free online, as long as nobody is making any profit off of it
AGREED!
Well, they are available online....
Idk about the legality, but they are there.
But what if they could make money off it somehow layer?!
That would be crazy!
Because... maybe... money! Maybe...?
No. Something absurd and reasonable like that is never going to happen.
Because maybe money.
They do... for the most part. There are plenty of ROM sites out there that horde old games. We're currently up to the PS2 era and you can pretty much find any game ever released for any console before that. I'm unsure of the legality, but it's not exactly hard to find, and no one seems to be making a massive effort to stop it. Sure, if you pirate a modern game that's still being sold they'll come after you, but a game that's like 30 years old? I.... doubt it. I think the distinction is made that it's illegal to emulate the console to play these or to modify a console to play them, but downloading the rom itself is not illegal? I'm not sure exactly. It's always much more difficult to find the necessary files to emulate an old system than it is to find the games to play on it.
Yo
Huh. I have much more respect for whoever's in charge of Lego the Hobbit and Lego Lord of the Rings now.
Just before the games were taken down, they were made free on...probably multiple platforms, but the one I know of is Humble Bundle, complete with the warning that the games codes would expire, and the games *must* be redeemed to an account within a week.
They *could* have tried to convince people to buy them before they no longer could, but instead, they gave them away so anyone that wanted to enjoy the games but couldn't afford to would have that chance.
and I just could got one of two (the Hobbit), now this pains me to not be avaible the day Lego Lotr was free that day...
@@caspramio when?

Lawyers and Judges: You can't buy these games anymore.
Seeders: That's where we come in.
What I've learned from this is: always buy physical media.
Thats what i go by too... until they shutdown the online servers too
@proudGDfreak - Yeah, good luck with that. All the console companies are chomping at the bit to go completely digital. :(
Besides, what good is physical media when half the damn game is DLC that can only be downloaded, and then you need like 5GB of patches which can only be downloaded?
But then they make sure the next platform won't accept it. And they they cut off all support for it. That's why I won't buy a Playstation console ever again. I have $250 of games that are useless since the PS3 won't read them. Fuck you Sony.

Rom Downloads: Am I a joke to you?
They mean "morally legal" ways to obtain them.
@@Hellwyck I mean in P.T's case it was a free demo and it wasn"t removed because kojima didn't want people to play it anymore so imo it's morally legal to download it if you ever just want to experience it for yourself.

Alan Wake is another one.
Something to do with music/audio licensing.
I grabbed it and Alan Wake's American Nightmare for free on Steam just before they took it off the store... Still haven't played it, though.
I think that got reinstated as I got it free from epic games launcher.
Driver San Francisco is another driving game hard to find. Which is sad since it's fantastic.
GoG has been brilliant at bringing back most of the abandonware games of my youth as a PC gamer, but they still haven't been able to persuade Microsoft to allow them to re-release "Freelancer". It was a really great game with a fun solo-campaign as well as the multiplayer. There are other space-action games that do a lot of the same things, but I really enjoyed the Freelancers' art-style and the universe they made for it.
That's one of the many reasons to prefer LEGO games from back when they didn't have voice acting besides mumbling.
Or just guestures and Lego clinking sounds
No voice at all
If you look back to before Lego Star Wars The Video Game they had voice acting.
It was funnier too. Cause they had to use gestures to tell you what was previously told with talking. Also the Lego Starwars games just had more hidden secrets
Indeed. Lego games just weren't 'right' with voice acting

Welcome to the "future" of gaming, where every game is streamed, nothing is owned, and games disappear... wonderful
The worst part is that even if you own the physical copies of the games, eventually the services that send out the updates will go down, meaning we'll be left with the versions of games that developers thought "eh, we'll just patch it on day one" about. As much as I like the fact that we can get games digitally or have post launch additions to games, I miss the days when you could buy a copy of a game and expect it to work in full. Now it's so hit and miss because so many developers assume everyone can readily download 20gb day one bug fixes.......

The whole PT/Silent Hills debacle broke my heart.
I just wish Kojima and Konami gave marriage counseling a chance before resorting to divorce and filicide.
RIP Silent Hills. You were but a smooth talking foetus, aborted before your time.
I take some consolation in that Kojima got to work with del Toro and Norman again in death stranding, without Konami's interference. I know it's not Silent Hills but it's still got that Kojima shine/genius/madness stamped all over it. Can't wait for its release.
There are a few theories floating about that Kojima saw the writing on the wall and knew the end was near by the time his team started working on P.T. - the references to "Dad" playing the same kind of games etc. are all thinly veiled insults against Konami for being a terrible and boring employer that suddenly decided to make some really messed up decisions.
While Death Stranding may not be Silent Hills, it's still going to be great. No Konami interference is bound to help!
Thank you for including that Lego Lord of the Rings won't disappear about of my library because holy shit I panicked for a second there, I love that game

Annnnnd so much for the “If you bought it, you can just re-download it forever!” feature of digital games. I’ll just stick with my physical copy collection thank you very much.
That's why I like Steam. If it's taken off their store, but you own it, you have it forever.
@@alexanderf.6396 That's not true, if the purplishers of the games wanted, they could pull a PT. Hell if steam for some reason closed down completely. You wouldn't be able to play any of your games, because you don't own the games. just a licence to play them, it's the same no matter where you it digitally.
Remember that physical media can very well crumble into dust over time as well. Or simply get scratched rendering it useless, can’t re-download that if the digital version is still around by that time either.
But they even said if u purchase it u could redownload
True, but physical copies under normal circumstances aren’t going to crumble to dust that quickly. I mean I still have Atari stuff that works fine so that should say something😘 Also, believe it or not Disc Dr works pretty well. Lol
If anything, you just need something to last long enough that the companies no longer care about emulators/ripped game copies. You can technically DL a lot of SNES games now, but they (so far) haven’t made much effort to shut that down.
If just say if there are games you really favor, find a way to keep or safely store a copy yourself. Can’t trust the pettiness of these companies nowadays😓

You're actually wrong about that. (It's spelled #FucKonami)
Paul Silagi Okay then, thanks for the clarification.
Yeah, damn lawyers! (Sorry, Phoenix.)
It feels like Benami, which is actually good compared to yours truly, is basically dying because music games (what Benami makes) is dead
You'll hate them more once we go on full streaming lol
I don't understand why an expired license should be the death of an already produced game, as it's not an issue for physical media, but it's at least one reason to justify piracy.
Honestly, the fact this is still an issue just presents itself to me as our race never actually growing up past 7 years of age.
So true. Digital games take up space so people delete them out all the time thinking they can just re-download whenever. Once a game is released, it should be a done deal. That’s how it was with physical copies, and it should be exactly the same with digital copies.
There's a finite amount of physical copies ever produced for a game, movie, and music. After the licence expires, you can't produce more copies of it. Digital media is theoretically infinite with the method of distribution, so they must be pulled in order to stop extra copies from being "produced"
Wait until these cocksuckers are reaching into your device and deleting your software after their corporate pissing contest results in you losing your "license" to play it.

The Game Boy isn't portable but the Switch is? Hmm not sure about that one
The switch may be wider, but it is flatter. And you can use a controller instead of having them attached to the screen. But yeah, it was a flat joke. That thing is clearly portable lmao
Perhaps the issue with the GameBoy "not being portable" was about accessories? I started with the GameBoy Pocket, not the original, but even with that one odds were high that at the very least you'd probably own some sort of accessory with a light since the system itself didn't have a backlit screen until GameBoy Advance SP. I'm not sure of everything else that was out there but I'm pretty sure that lights are just scratching the surface of what was out there to improve the play experience. I think you could've also had a magnifier lens or stereo speakers or... maybe a tangle of link cables if you and your friends had any games with a multiplayer option.
Actually, with or without an accessory shining a light down at the screen, being able to see the screen at all when outside the house could sometimes get to be tricky depending on the conditions outside. Devices with backlit screens can have their issues as well sometimes... but the backlighting cuts down on a lot of it, I think.
Oh, wait... what about batteries? I think I've heard that the original GameBoy required 4 AAs and burned them up in something like 2-3 hours? Correct me if I'm wrong. I know that the Pocket used half as many batteries, possibly AAAs, and I think the battery life might have been at least twice that long. Correct me if I'm remembering that wrong. Both of those early models were before it became common for devices to feature rechargeable battery packs, at any rate. In or out of the house, use of the system was constrained by how many spare batteries you had available.
@@MuljoStpho I dunno about that, I seem to remember getting a good deal of play from my original Gameboy. It did take four AA batteries, but I don't remember it only lasting 2 to 3 hours. Plus, you could use a power adapter if you were close to an outlet so you weren't necessarily constrained by how many batteries you had lying around.
An original Game Boy will give you about 10-15 hours on 4 AA batteries. You're probably confusing it with the Sega Game Gear or Atari Lynx which took about 6 AA batteries but gobbled them up in about 3 hours (because of the backlit color screen) and that was also one of the main reasons the Game Boy easily won the handheld war.
I love how my stupid joke about their joke has sparked a serious conversation about Game Boys and the Switch
16:09 is me right now since I got both the Lego hobbit and the tetris gameboy
The entire UFC undisputed series and the entire WWE SVR series.
Undisputed 3 is probably one of my favorite games of all time because of how addictive it is, and the SVR games were my childhood, but now they're forever lost in the abyss that is preowned physical copies. And will likely never be digitally available ever again.
I don't need Tetris to play Tetris anymore, it's burned into my mind, all I have to do is close my eyes
Is this reference what I think it is?

The Tetris Effect is real, and it never stops. It's been decades. There is no escaping. In the distance, sirens.

I bought Lego LOTR and Lego the Hobbit for Steam, on Instant Gaming several months after the date you're stating in the video.
In houston I went to a flea market last week and there was this guy selling games and i saw cesspool for ps4 so i asked if i could check it and it was in great condition
WITH THE POWER OF PIRATING, I WILL-
I’m still upset about Scott Pilgrim, I loved that game, my ex still has my console with it still installed, LADY GIVE ME MY GAME BACK.
Yeah it is very upsetting. My brothers and I don't know where the Xbox that has it installed is :/
I was able to redownload Scott Pilgrim on a different console go to download list
Hopefully it was better than the movie because damn that movie was bad
On the ps3 you can check your downloads list on the ps store and get the game back, so not all hope is lost.
A year ago I did this and the game was still working.
I have a few of these games so now I will make sure to hold onto them and to correct the girl during the Deadpool clip. Says "well, in this case thirds" He flips over, cuts the head off then the arms. 1 head, 1 body, 2 arms, that would be quarters.
The battle Royale Tetris (Tetris 99) is actually super fun and an interesting spin on it. I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it but it's a blast.
You might call it an interesting T-Spin?
Oh I get it , a PlayStation is technically Outside Xbox🤔
Yeah, I think they've always mentioned other consoles on this channel
That's one of the things I prefer about this channel to Playstation Access.
Outstanding move

I still have the LEGO lord of the rings on the wii. But how valuable is it though?
Edit: you can still buy it at Walmart.
I still own my PS3 copy of the game, too. Not selling it.
I don't think it's that valuable. Used Lego games are usually sold cheap in game stores.
It's on eBay for as low as $0.99 USD, well for Xbox anyway.
You can still get it used at GameStop. Along with LEGO The Hobbit.
I've got an XBOX 360 version and a DS version still and in good condition. Still one of the best LEGO games of all time, imo
I have both on steam...
Just searched for the first one PT and found it for sale online so.... yea..
Dude I own like half of these games that can't be sold any more! Looks like I'm about to make my first thousand bucks selling these baby's online!
(That's how that works right?)
DAVID BIEMMEL Yes. That’s how it works.
they actually arent really worth much you can pretty much find most of these games for 20 bucks on ebay
You have to give it a few generation then sell that's how it works pluss you have to know how many are still in existence
First thousand? You better be a teen
@@clydebarrow6701 to be fair, have you ever sold $1000 worth of stuff? I assume that's how he meant anyways
3:50 I'm sorry Jane but that's technically "quarters." Or have you been lying about that physics degree... Hmm...
Harvey Britland lmao I thought that too.
I hope there’s a torrent or a pirate download or something for Scott Pilgrim vs the World because I really wanted to play that years ago.
Iv still got it on my ps3
In this digital world it's technically impossible to delete a thing of the internet....
it's on torrent
umu
I have seen a Adam's family pinball game in a pizza shop in Nevada made me grin so big when I heard the song playing in the corner.
Dudes, Scott Pilgrim Has A Remake In Progress.
