  • Why do gamers hate the Horizon franchise? I attempt to answer why. I also give my honest thoughts on Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. Plus, I give my take on the Zero Dawn remastered and Lego game.

You're right. Horizon has made me realize that the internet doesn't always tell you the truth. I thought it wouldn't have good sales because of the hate on social media (especially Twitter). But after seeing that it did so well in sales, I realized that there are franchise fandoms that are silent.

And that's why I felt compelled to make this video, I mostly see negative takes. I wanted to tip the scale at least a little lol.
I do want to note, the sale number includes when Zero Dawn was given for free. I couldn't find any sources without it. But the point still stands, lots of people bought the games.

The Horizon community on Twitter is really active and positive! It’s honestly one of the best communities I’ve seen. But , Twitter’s overall environment has become so toxic that it’s hard to find much positivity nowadays in anything in general not just horizon. I think that’s why a lot of people don’t bother writing tweets, as they often don’t get much attention because of the algorithm. Threads feel different though more positive and less negative and I see more new people engaging and talking about the game there, compared to Twitter where it’s often the same voices.

Horizon is a man hating game.
Every male character is either Evil/Incompetent or falls into the grey area which are the token black character that's your friend, good but evil black guy and the serial killer.
Incompetent male scientist vs competent female scientist.
EVIL MALE AI HADES VS ALL THE GOOD FEMALE VOICED AI
First kid you meet Fails parkour and you the female have to save him. He ends up becoming a soyboy making you beginner armor you already have.
male kid bullies you and female one befriends you.
Male guard is mean to you while the female military leader of the tribe is nice to you.
At the big city... the king ??? you guessed it is incompetent without his Female military leader.
The women leaders are all strong and competent.
The male ones ? Losers or evil.
The first guy you meet with the earpiece ? Aloy treats him like shit even after he explains that his family was held hostage while forgiving a girl who was in the same situation in a side quest.
Your father, an exile who Aloy treats like shit before doing the exam.
Aloy accusing a merchant of looking at her breasts.
Aloy berating a guy for not confessing to his crush.
Aloy being praised as a good hunter when the earpiece does most of the work.
Replay the game. You'll see. Men are evil and Women are good.

I never wanted to buy a console because it was enough for me to play on PC. So I came into contact with Horizon when it was released on Steam. Since then I played Zero Dawn for several times. I've tried a lot of others like Cybepunk, Elden Ring, the latest Tomb Raider games and many more, and I have to say no game got me from the first moment as HZD.
Like you I purchased a PS5 at last just to play Forbidden West. And of course the story couldn't be as impressive as the one of Zero Dawn, but I like the evolving of the characters over time and I love the cutscenes an dialogues.
I think there are so many negative reactions because it is a great and significant franchise, and of course the haters always are much louder than the people who like it. And I also think some of the haters only don't like the ending of the Burning Shores.
I agree with you HZD wouldn't need a remaster but it will be there soon, and I will buy, because I think it's a good deal getting an improved game for only 10$. 😊

Personally I think the problem with HFW isn’t exactly that it’s too large. My issue with it comes in the exploration and discovery aspect of it all. In the first game the narrative is heavily centered around figuring out who you are and figuring out what the hell is going on. But in the second game there isn’t as much of that I feel. Which is what I find to have made the story not as good. Don’t get me wrong though amazing game and I enjoyed it a ton. Both are good just HZD has better exploration and world building.

What you said is a fact because you are note the only who say that.
The fact that the sub-features were sought was great, but the writer did not execute it well in terms of dialogue. The good thing is that the story can be recovered and those plot errors can be fixed in the third game.

Fact. It took…. 5? Years for horizon zero dawn to be developed and released. Took 4 years for forbidden west. Hand crafted with love clearly. Optimized, runs fantastic on PC sure it had some hiccups but were few and far between. Then we have starfield. Hey Bethesda y’all need to start taking notes. Starfield was 8 years of development, wasn’t ready and able to run stable on the Xbox at all until 1 month before release AMD got involved to help it run and often requires an upscaler even a 4090 sometimes because Bethesda doesn’t know how to optimize, I too my hat to you Sony and guerrilla. Dude! Agreed COMPLETELY! I don’t normally play open-world games. There are very few that I even like. I love the Arkham games, Wind Waker is my 2nd favorite Zelda (after Link to the Past), and that’s about it… until you get to Horizon, that is!
I didn’t get Horizon until soon after Frozen Wilds came out, when I saw a couple reviews and decided I’d finally give the game a chance. I fell in love with it so immediately and so hard that I ended up getting the platinum.
I bought Forbidden West on launch, and yeah, like you said, it’s even better than the first game in many ways, except for the fact that it’s too big. I loved it, but I also kinda burned out about 2/3 through the game and I still haven’t gotten around to finishing it yet. But I will! I need to play that Burning Shores DLC and get Aloy that romance!
Speaking of romance, YES. Talanah is THE best, and absolutely should have been a romance option. Alongside her though, Ikrie from Frozen Wilds is my other favorite. She’s so adorable. And what is it with the best girls being tied to hunting challenges?

Incompetent male CEO vs super smart female hero scientist.
Evil Male AI vs Good Female AI
Male guard that hates you vs the super awesome female army leader.
Incompetent father figure vs female elder who treats you with kindness.
first male kid you meet fails at parkour and you a female have to save him. He ends up becoming a soyboi making you beginner armor you already have.
second male kid you meet starts bullying you.
The big sun city. The king there is incompetent without his female military leader. The brother of that female is also incompetent.
Aloy accusing a male merchant of looking at her boobs.
Aloy herself having horrible dialogue. Despite being a fkn CLONE of a female scientist. She's also a great at parkour and strong enough to bash her spear into metal dino's.
The first guy you meet with the same earpiece. Aloy keeps pestering the dude for no reason at the start. Then hates him for no good reason and still hates him after he reveals his wife and kid are taken hostage.
Shit keeps going. The devs shat on Elden ring because they are jealous.
It's another open world game operating the exact same way like ubisoft open world games.
Soundtrack ? Can't even remember. Combat is decent. It has robot dinosaurs, can't say anything bad about that.

Why does a game have to be completely outdated before it can get a visual update? (talking about Hzd remaster)
Why not use the experience and technology from the second game on the first game, so that it looks as good as possible. I mean, nobody has anything to lose, only to gain.
And you don't have to buy it if you don't want the update.

    • @edwrdlee
      @edwrdlee  15 часов назад

People should enjoy something for what it was originally made to be. The desire for better graphics never ends and the goal post will always get pushed further. Horizon Zero Dawn still looks and plays great on the PS4 right now. The effort for a whole remaster doesn't seem worth it.
"If you don't want it, don't buy it" is not a good way of thinking. Resources that could have went into something we want are being spent on something we do not need. People like me want something new, not something that retreads the same ground. A forbidden west dlc that focuses on a side character would be a better idea.
There are also negatives to a remaster. We're already seeing problems of Zero Dawn copies being marked up and people not being eligible for the $10 upgrade even though they already own Zero Dawn.
However if a remaster is the price we pay for a great Horizon 3, then it's not the worst thing in the world.

    • @merlindalkowski7607
      @merlindalkowski7607 11 часов назад

@@edwrdlee But that's my point. The remaster is more in line with the original concept because the developers can get closer to the creative ambition of the first part.
The developers have said that they used the original concept art as a reference to get even closer to the artists' vision.
You could say it was always meant to look like that.
And as far as distributing the resources goes, it has to be said that it took extremely little time and money to develop this remaster. The technology and experience already exists. The development studio responsible for the project was already familiar with the IP.
Such projects are also often given to young, inexperienced developers to train them.

The gameplay is fun at first, but it gets boring once you know how deal with things and this happen to me since mid game cs i can pretty much use the same strategy on most monster, freeze them up and go creazy DPS time, if it one of those big boy robot, stun/bind them, freeze them up and go creazy DPS time, hell i even played on ultra hard. the water exploration is some of many interesting things that i've been waiting in the sacond game but become one of my big disappointment cos there's not realy anything to do aside hunting fish and running from monster, damn at least give some combat, same as sunwing, maybe it's only intended for traversal but a bit of spice with combat won't hurt, i mean we can do that with other mount, and many of new thing's in the sacond game that have potential but come up pretty shalow. i only have PC and god knows how long i've been waiting and avoiding spoilers for this game to come on PC, and when it does, it mediocre at best, really disapointed

Horizon Zero Dawn should have been a one and done game. Sony re-releasing it over and over is absurd, but besides that it's a good if not great game. Horizon Forbidden West is.... not a good game. The HZD story is intriguing, and you want to get to the bottom of the mystery. HFW is a lot of .... go here and listen to this person and go here and listen to this person, and we have a foreign enemy threat trope, and we are going to 3x dialogue this story for no reason. It's wildly bloated. FF7Rebirth is how you bloat an open world game. HFW is how not to do that.
They are both beautiful games - that's for sure. And to be quite fair, I never played the HFW dlc. From how you describe it, it looks fun. Maybe I'll give it a whirl one day.

God forbid, a game has a diverse collection of NPCs... yes, it has a huge range of NPCs and cultures. Why exactly does that make the game bad?
"we have a foreign enemy threat trope, and we are going to 3x dialogue this story for no reason."
Because it has 3x the story? We have first the story of leaving Meridian, then unravelling the culture of every region and then we have the Far Zenith plot line. So yes, the story is tripled in this one.
And what do you mean trope? Literally, every plot point in nowadays entertainment is some sort of a trope.
      " It's wildly bloated."
One gamer's content is another gamer's bloat. BOTW and TOTK are widely bloated but no one blames that. The shrines and the Koroks in BOTW are the most repetitive BS I have seen but no, HFW gets the blame.

I thought Horizon Zero Dawn had a cool story, but you didn't get to learn it piece by piece. It was a long time ago now, but as I remember it, it was told in two or three large chunks. Horrible, in my opinion.
So my overall impression of it was pretty meh. I barely remember it.

I'd suggest putting the game in Story mode so you can enjoy the exploring and side quests with as little stress as possible! In story mode machines and bandits are really easy to take down, and they automatically drop ALL ( I think) the parts that you would need to upgrade weapons (even the rare ones). If you still find it too much on Story Mode it's just not for you and thats cool. For games like that I just watch the full gameplay on youtube! That's what I did for Final Fantasy since I LOATHE turned based combat.

I see where you're coming from. I am more of an action guy.
I think games should aim to balance story, gameplay, and exploration. The first party PlayStation games definitely lean more into the story and cinematic side of things.
