Dallas and Fort Worth have been coming remarkably well connected by rail in recent years. DART is a cool system with a lot of potential, and high quality elevated viaducts and stations. Frankly I would have preferred to see it built out as a heavier rail solution (or even a Regional Rail solution more akin to SEPTA), but it's a surprisingly vast system regardless.
Indeed, DART is growing and expanding. When DART was created during the early 1980s, they first propose heavy rail system (like MARTA, WMATA or BART). Later, they change their plans and chose light rail.
@@HOUExplorer interesting that they went with the light rail option, the end result really reminds me of a light metro to be honest, especially since so much of the system is grade-separated so well. It's truly a perfect fit for the Stadler FLIRT and I am not at all surprised that the Silver line is going to run those from what I've read; really great fit.
Interesting--at the 34:15 mark, as we descend into the subway, there are remnants of trackage leading to a walled area--looks like panels were installed judging from the paint --don't know if this was a planned line that was scrapped or used for construction materials in digging the CityPlace tunnel. What plans did you have for your Dallas visit? DartRail certainly is a bargain at $3! Cheaper than a taxi or Uber and vastly cheaper than renting a car! No doubt you will be back once the Silver Line goes into operation! One of many pricey apartment buildings we passed--its upper windows paid homage to the Texas School Book Depository of which you weren't too far away from. At DAL, you took a circuitous route to the bus stop--since the route begins at the ticketing area, you simply could've taken that hallway to the left rather than descending stairs which certainly weren't handicapped friendly! Long ago in downtown Ft Worth, there was the famed Tandy Subway, now long demolished that connected a surface parking lot with the underground station of the Tandy HQ--a nonstop ride using PCC's
I agree! $3 is cheap from Love Field to Downtown. Few years ago, I remember I've spent around $35 from Love Field to Downtown using Uber (including tips). I was there for business and visiting some friends. Ah yes, I do remember seeing a video of the Tandy Subway in Fort Worth. They were the first private subway in Texas. Sadly it is gone...wish Trinity Metro could restore Tandy.
Also, I'm sure youre aware the D2 subway plan has been redone a billion times. The Texas DOT wants to redesign the I-345 highway and put it underground so that is in conflict with what DART wants to do with the D2 subway. So they are going to do a different route, in my opinion its not as great as what you have in your video but at least it something. Also, they are planning on expanding the street car system that runs in the bishop arts district to connect with downtown which is exciting. Hopefully they set a date. I have a customer where I work who is apart of DART corporate and I pick his brain all the time about D2 plans and silver line finish time, right now he said once they finish the silver line they will think about D2 again. He told me the silver line should have wifi connected but they are going to take the restrooms out of the train cars unfortunately, but the silver line should be ready for revenue service in 2025; I think D2 has been talked about for 20 years now.
So no direct rail to DAL itself..? If memory DAL is located in a sketchy area of Dallas, could be a risky proposition to hop aboard the train at night.
great video, there is a pathway right behind baggage area that takes to the bus and rideshare areas so that you don't have to walk to the other side of the airport.

Great video man! What a spectacular journey! Lucky that you get to ride the Love Link Shuttle for free! Keep up the great work and see you in Miami!
Thanks man! Next week I'll be in Miami!
What an unnecessarily pathetic, convoluted connection.

The Green Line does not go to Cityplace / Uptown Station. After Pearl / Arts District, it turns towards Deep Ellum and head towards Plesant Grove

Dummed question, do people recommend no carryon luggage
You can carry luggage or backpack on the train.
nice video, when are you heading to Europe?
Maybe later this year or next.
