@Sandy Gan I’m 54 and all in. And I really liked Billie as a person before I became a fan of her music. Bad Guy reeled me in and then I started watching some of her live stuff on RUclips and realized that she is so much more than what you see. She’s got a very eclectic and diverse taste and music knowledge. I give a lot of credit to her and Finneas ‘ parents for taking the road that was best for their children. Homeschooling not just for personal reasons but so that they could encourage and help them cultivate their interests and obvious talents… on their own terms.
Her best work to date. Showed a wonderful amount of maturity both lyrically, vocally and in production. Her range in vocal styles has genuinely doubled since what we last heard and it's fucking impressive because vocals was always the part of Billie I liked the most so the fact she could have so much in her bag we didn't know about is fucked. The lyrics I really can't say much about. Just absolutely fucking beautiful. The production is insane, it pulls from so many different avenues and yet still keeps the same Billie/Fineas style that has become their signature. Great album.
My top 3: Oxytocin, Happier Than Ever, and Everybody Dies. Oxytocin just does something to every nerve in my body. That gnarly beat. The grime. The sultry vocals. It's a VICIOUS track and I absolutely live for it. She's really growing into her own as a powerful young woman. Her creativity is beautiful and I feel so fortunate that we all get to hear and see it.

I don’t get when people say she explored new vocal abilities. She sings the same on the whole album besides the screaming in the title track. Can you elaborate?
@@TanCarvajal how do you figure? I honestly don’t get this assumption that she just whisper sings through EVERY songs. Her delivery on everybody dies is a lot different than the fast talking on overheated or her jazz style tones on lost cause. Her falsetto and head voice in male fantasy is different then her falsetto in Oxytocin. Her choir like harmonies on Goldwing is something she’s never experimented with. Finneas using auto tune as a stylistic choice is something they’ve only done once before this. And yeah like you mentioned she sings completely differently on HTE also.
She said she didn't wanna end the album on a bad note (HTE) so she closed with Male Fantasy but Happier is the best album closer I've heard outside of Angel by Abel

NDA, Therefore I Am, and Happier Than Ever are a series, a musical triptych. It opens with the distorted screeching in NDA which leads directly into Therefore I Am, only for it to return at the end of Happier Than Ever in that sea of distortion. The screeching works like bookends and only serves to make the end of Happier Than Ever that much more satisfying when listening to the album in order.

The part at 9:19 is SUUUUCH a classic finneas piano sequence. If there’s one thing you can always tell finneas produced, it’s the piano. Not to say he just does the same exact thing over and over but it always has that similar arrangement & sounds beautiful. Also your face at 19:14 when you thought the song ended but the guitar was strumming again made me almost choke on my food cuz I was like LOL just wait for what’s coming 🥲 I wouldn’t say this was AOTY, and this album was pretty hit or miss for me but HTE just… rocked my world. You can tell that the sheer amount of pressure, fame and criticism she has experienced so quickly has forced her to be mature and I think that shows in her songwriting, so self aware. The respect for happier than ever, you didn't skip you soaked in it. That's what got me to subscribe. The song is literal perfection. Bliss to listen to
This is officially my second favorite album of all time. I listened to it in one sitting when it released, totally stoned with earphones in, and it was an insane experience, because I had zero expectations. I've loved Billie's previous work but this one really resonated with and surprised me. I'm a massive fan of alt/rock, jazz, blues, and this album is full of those influences. I got tinges of Amy Winehouse, Nine Inch Nails, The Beatles, Nirvana, among some others, but Billie's voice and biting lyricism is entirely unique. On top of all that, Finneas's production is fucking immaculate. Since my first time, I've listened to it a dozen times both on vinyl and through speakers and god, I'll never tire of it. Not a single skip on the entire album, for me!
Great commentary as always, Jon. This is definitely one of my favorite albums of the year so far. I had very high expectations coming into the album, but Billie met those expectations and then some. Sonically and lyrically one of the albums of the year and she’s 19, Billie Eilish can be this generations Elvis, Beatles, Nirvana, just imagine the standard of a 30 year old Billie Eilish
@@walkm2794 surprisingly, his vocals are way less present this time around, and lyrics are more personal. Finneas is also a huge part of why Billie is able to be where she is, but at the end of the day, it's her voice that gets heard more (btw his solo work is underrated! He has a great voice and some bops of his own). It's clear that he doesn't mind and has always wanted to support her, so no sibling rivarly here fam :)
YEEEESSSS, JD!!! Enjoyed this video reaction so much. Until now its been a lot of reactions by people with limited (mostly pop) music knowledge. Weirdly, i think this album is currently underrated. A little ahead of its time and too mature for the tween& under category. Billie is a mainstream anomaly & I hope she keeps blasting holes in the manufactured "disney" acts that clog up pop culture.
Love ur reactions So I was so sad you didn't feel the power of the last song. It was stunning, showed all her feelings, so vulnerable and revealing. Powerful after the title song's strength.
the title track reminds me a lot of what phoebe bridgers did on "i know the end" (not in a bad way, obviously she didn't invent instrumental switch-ups and screaming). only further solidifies my opinion that it would've been a stronger album closer than "male fantasy"
I just feel she put Male Fantasy because it was a more real look at she actually feels at the end of everything and tbh honest thematically it was the better closer. It had the sides of the hurt, heartbreak, sensuality, and happiness ( or at least hope for happiness) that billie show us in this album.
Watching you react to the track Happier Than Ever made me feel like it was my first time listening all over again. Incredible. And just FYI it's her third album 2017 dont smile at me 2019 WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? 2021 Happier Than Ever
When I first listened to the album I thought there were some mediocre songs but after watching so many reaction videos on it I can confidently say every song on that album is a banger even ones I thought I didn’t like, like NDA is now one of my favourites. Billie and phineas are geniuses
Thanks for your reaction/review. I think Billie & FINNEAS were also saying with the "Happier Than Ever" track - the 2nd half, if we wanted to do the kind of music that goes big on the charts, we could/we can. They hear music differently than most people, including other artists and they will be true to how they hear it. Can you imagine if they put out an album of that kind of music - I mean the kind in the 2nd half of "Happier Than Ever". I love the album, but "Happier Than Ever" - the track - is absolutely awesome, people now know she can sing big on more than one note in a song [ "No Time To Die" ] - not only that Billie completely lets loose and gives her all - everything. And FINNEAS - at times, he's almost a little mischievous, like towards the end of "I didn't change my number" - they are a dynamic duo.
The "Sergeant Pepper's" genius of the song Happier Than Ever ties the whole project into an artistic and sonic cohesiveness and, in my mind, garners another Album and Song of the year for Billie and Finneas. Not to mention the live shows and the Grammy performance that will likely occur. Billie Eilish is a vocal and artistic presence who will grace the music industry for years to come. Finneas is a force to be reckoned with on his own and will shape the industry's trajectory in untold ways. Hyperbole? I think not
Funny you mention Sgt Pepper. I definitely got a Day in the Life feel from the chord progression during the transition in Happier Than Ever. Listen for it and you'll hear it. I wonder if it's a conscious quote.
Hey Jon, great vid as always, Billie's definitely adapting to Finneas' production styles better than ever. Waiting on Friday tho jheez 🔥 P.S. small typo in description box with Eilis hreturns if you wanted to fix that cause I know you're on that perfection grind ahaha love from London east

I loved the album more each time I listened to it all the way through there are so many things that you can notice later on with lyrics or production
i love that you compare Happier Than Ever with My Chemical Romance beacuse Billie is a big fan of them, and it does sound like that,it's the best description that i've ever heard of Happier Than Ever,i love it!
Astute review, mate. May I say that at 80 years old, this may be the best album I have ever heard, and I have heard everything.
9:22 I knowww that part gives me chills everytime it comes in with those chords
I actually wish the entire song had this kind of vibe
@@indeboss me tooooo
Your reaction to happier than ever the song,is immaculate beautiful
10/10 album of the year, they are an unstoppable duo. The level of talent is incredible
I can't get enough of your reaction videos omg.
Idk if aoty but Happier Than Ever is song of the year imo
That shit was crazy on first listen and it remains so on the 70th
Sonically and lyrically one of the albums of the year and she’s 19, Billie Eilish can be this generations Elvis, Beatles, Nirvana, just imagine the standard of a 30 year old Billie Eilish
i just hope pray and cross my fingers that she gets to thirty man i hope the people around her keep her safe always
i mean she didn’t even write most of this album so…let’s clap for finneas
@@walkm2794 surprisingly, his vocals are way less present this time around, and lyrics are more personal. Finneas is also a huge part of why Billie is able to be where she is, but at the end of the day, it's her voice that gets heard more (btw his solo work is underrated! He has a great voice and some bops of his own). It's clear that he doesn't mind and has always wanted to support her, so no sibling rivarly here fam :)
@@heyitsmira17 yeah but the production is the biggest strength of this album so I think Finneas deserves more credit
such a reach
YEEEESSSS, JD!!! Enjoyed this video reaction so much. Until now its been a lot of reactions by people with limited (mostly pop) music knowledge.
Weirdly, i think this album is currently underrated. A little ahead of its time and too mature for the tween& under category. Billie is a mainstream anomaly & I hope she keeps blasting holes in the manufactured "disney" acts that clog up pop culture.
This album shows Billie’s transformation and maturity into womanhood. I’m here for it. 💙
This is lit and all don't get me wrong but I have 4 words for you: "The Dawn is Coming"
his reaction to the teaser got blocked
"bossa nova" is a brazilian 50's genre/beat btw
Is that the name of the genre?
@@MrGlanbia yes
YOUR REACTS NEVER DISAPPOINTS thank you so much for this video... See you emotional over the songs is priceless 💖
*Can we all agree that's one of the best albums ever made, like if we won't say perfect, it's just so close, so wholesome and good*
i love music reviewers who actually listen to the lyrics, thank u!!
I had my doubts with the singles but the album turned out amazing as a whole !!! Loved it soooo much , Billie never disappoints💜
Love ur reactions So I was so sad you didn't feel the power of the last song. It was stunning, showed all her feelings, so vulnerable and revealing. Powerful after the title song's strength.
I like how jon didn't cut the reaction to the Happier Than Ever song, That sh*t was GolD
I come back to this video every time I want to enjoy this album like I did the first time I ever heard it
the title track reminds me a lot of what phoebe bridgers did on "i know the end" (not in a bad way, obviously she didn't invent instrumental switch-ups and screaming). only further solidifies my opinion that it would've been a stronger album closer than "male fantasy"
I was thinking the same
I just feel she put Male Fantasy because it was a more real look at she actually feels at the end of everything and tbh honest thematically it was the better closer. It had the sides of the hurt, heartbreak, sensuality, and happiness ( or at least hope for happiness) that billie show us in this album.
Watching you react to the track Happier Than Ever made me feel like it was my first time listening all over again. Incredible.
And just FYI it's her third album
2017 dont smile at me
2019 WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
2021 Happier Than Ever
Happier Than Ever makes me emotional every single time I hear the song damn
Everybody Dies..
mine too, it makes me cry every time
The album is f**king amazing
Just give Billie and Finneas record of the year for happier than ever now, it’s over
When I first listened to the album I thought there were some mediocre songs but after watching so many reaction videos on it I can confidently say every song on that album is a banger even ones I thought I didn’t like, like NDA is now one of my favourites. Billie and phineas are geniuses
Was waiting for this!
thank you for leaving the title track reaction uncut jon. your reaction was beautiful
Hyperbole? I think not
Totally agree with everything you've said!
Funny you mention Sgt Pepper. I definitely got a Day in the Life feel from the chord progression during the transition in Happier Than Ever. Listen for it and you'll hear it. I wonder if it's a conscious quote.
The Beatles is a massive influence for both Billie and Finneas. But yeah, I absolutely agree.
YOUR REACTION TO HAPPIER THAN EVER WAS PERFECTTTT❤ that song surprised me so much!!! I'm so proud of billie omg
I was waiting only for your reaction, Jon!
Thank you very much, you’re the king of reactions for music industry
Thank you! Finally I was waiting for your reaction!!
Hey Jon, great vid as always, Billie's definitely adapting to Finneas' production styles better than ever. Waiting on Friday tho jheez 🔥
P.S. small typo in description box with Eilis hreturns if you wanted to fix that cause I know you're on that perfection grind ahaha love from London east
Yesss was looking forward towards your reaction!
She really did her thing on that album
yeees! i couldn't wait for your reaction to the album!
Can we address how in NDA she mentioned the first four tracks at the beginning in the second verse. Brilliant 👏
it’s really kind of you for putting the uncut reaction to the title track here. watching that is an experience.
a badass single, then an animated one, than a single w/ the name of the album and a mindblowing switch. billie or the weeknd?
-(heartless-therefore I am)
-(blinding lights-lost cause)
-(happier than ever-after hours)
happier than ever transition is insane
