It’s kinda sad that people think Taylor has only been making songs like ME! or shake it off lol those songs were made singles for commercial success and it’s also a marketing strategy but I can promise you that the Taylor Swift non singles are MUCH MUCH better than what the singles show you.
I agree! I've been watching a ton of these Folklore reactions, and almost all of them seem surprised she's such a good songwriter. Which makes sense considering which songs she usually chooses as her singles. But still, it's a shame those songs are the ones that represent her when she's so much more than just Shake it Off!
She should take more control of her single releases tbh. Why would anyone check out an album if they hate the single? You don't hear a song you hate and go 'oh wow I need to listen to this album!' I feel the same way about Cardigan being the first single off this. It's one of the weakest tracks on the album (along with Betty). If Cardigan had been the first song I heard, I may have passed on the whole album!
@@Eric_The_Eccentric not everyone knows that. Her singles choices and easter eggs please fans only. I actually listened to folklore cause of Bon Iver and found the whole album a gem. Cardigan wasn't the best pick honestly. Like ME! was really bad. And she sang it everywhere as lead single. Sounded like a children's album's lead. But Lover itself ended up being good
it’s so weird when people have to say ‘im not a fan of taylor’ just to disassociate themselves from the perception created from the mainstream nature of her music. if you enjoy someone’s music or find their artistry worth a mention, just say you do
I get looked down on because I love her music...just because she's not rapping or half naked in her music videos doesn't mean she is not relevant. I feel lucky to look up to Taylor and her lyrical masterpieces 💙💙
Nicole A I like Taylor too, but, to be honest, I felt this last comment you made was an unnecessary shade to other female artists. I praise Taylor by her talent and work. Don’t need to throw shade at other female artists.
Dude never ever judge Taylor's album from her singles. She literally pick worst songs from her album as a singles and hides deep cuts in the album. Just check any of her album (I would suggest country). Your opinion about her will change instantly.
And a side note..Taylor's album are generally completely different from the singles that are released...her deeper cuts showcase her best work from all too well to you are in love to haunted to dancing with our hands tied and many many more...the singles are just for radio play I guess even in lover songs like Cornelia Street, death by a thousand cuts, false god, daylight were absolutely amazing
@@justkimnikko tbh it's my fav song from reputation..the uncertainty in this song, the way she says she had a bad feeling...the vocals everything...followed by call it what you want and so it goes/komh
My Tears Ricochet isn't about a break up, it's about her previous record label that sold off all of her music. She's still haunting them because they "killed" her
The first listen i thought of it from the perspective of a relationship but after that I looked for deeper meaning in the lyrics and came back with that theory if it being about Scott and the record label and now the song hits even harder everytime I listen to it
I am so sick of people saying: "finally she decided to make a mature album instead of being her usual childish way". I mean come on, if you are not blinded by your self-judgment and narrow mind, you would know that she has always been this mature even in her younger, country days. Just because you heard me! with lyrics like "hey kids, spelling is fun" a line where Taylor did not even write, (Brendon Urie wrote that whole bridge), does not make one record childish and immature. I really hope that folklore makes people realize how impeccable Taylor's songwriting ability really is. Great review, man. Really appreciate it. epiphany is my fave too.
Yeah the only suprising thing is that they are ALL slow songs. There are plenty of songs in this style she made before. Sad Beautiful Tragic, All too well, This love, Cold as you and many more all could fit on this album.
Also: why do people dislike songs that allow themselves to be childish and immature? Music is always so serious all of the time, why can't we give space to what's humourous and silly?
Not a huge fan of Taylor, but... Denying her song writing ability and musicianship would be absolutely ignorant. Doing this on your channel is a great idea. It also shows your willingness to cover all kinds of music. That's true dedication, brother. This was a good look.
I heard Epiphany first while driving home. Bad idea. I was wrecked (figuratively). Esp. since I'm a lifelong soldier who also just spent 100+ days fighting COVID.
This is like a full circle moment for Taylor, the country roots she comes from shown through here, it was a real folk pop album and I love it. Seriously her best work yet.
Also fun fact, Jack Antonoff has said that no one trusted in his ability to produce until Taylor and him started making music together back in 2013. It was only after she worked with him that labels let him produce for other people. It’s crazy to think how many great albums he’s worked on might not exist if that hadn’t happened!
Imagine writing, recording, and producing an album this great in 3 months time? She's a fucking genius! Her song writing is next level. So glad she chose to work with some of my favorite people on this!
seven is my favourite. it’s about a child’s point of view of her friend who’s in an abusive house hold, seen in a very naive light where she just wants her friend to be happy but doesn’t understand what’s going on :,(
Seven is my favorite too! It really takes you back to childhood. The music just sounds nostalgic on its own and then the lyrics about screaming ferociously just because she wanted... ahh.
That one hit me so hard. I had a best friend for 5 years, long enough to grow too big to hide behind the couch together like we used to. I broke off the friendship one day after her dad threw such a horrible screaming temper tantrum I tried to hide behind the couch again, and I accidentally knocked over a lamp and it shattered. I thought he was going to kill me. I never talked to anyone in the family again. I kind of hope that the moment didn't hurt my former friend enough to think of that while they hear this song :( I was like... 9, and I wished her the best but I didn't ever want to feel like that even one more time.
This is the most adult record she’s ever made but it’s so funny to watch you react to how crazy her imagery is in her lyrics because she’s always written like this. You should definitely react to RED, Fearless and Speak now. This is a beautiful album but for us who have been fans of her since her first album it totally makes sense
Right, and when I found that out, I counted my own exes and was like, huh, I have more... And just rolled my eyes after that when ppl complained that she dated around too much or whatever lol
Some of those “relationships” were literally a month or two while living in separate cities. I don’t think she ever dated around, not that it would matter. It’s just the media was obsessed with her love life since she was 16, and she wrote about some. The media made it a bigger deal than it was. And the writing about her boyfriends argument…. So what. She went through hell for it so that the next generation (Olivia Rodrigo) can thankfully be praised for it.
Won't be long until Lana is working with Aaron D. Taylor put him on the map! How many other producers will be biting at the bit for ts9 people will be out in droves for that peace of art. Album of year hands down!
@@dommckenzie7102 Aaron and his twin brother Bryce are both in the band. As far as production, I'd say "Sleep Well Beast" is one of their most creative. It won the Grammy for Best Alternative Album in 2017. My person favorites on the album are "Guilty Party," "Empire Line," "Walk It Back," and "The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness." But, really, all of their albums are brilliant.
You said that you were not used to Taylor songs where the production was so minimal, but she has a lot of those type of songs. Her singles are usually very misleading in that sense. Her best songs for me are "hidden" and not the ones that she puts out before the release of the full album, generally speaking. For instance, I would not include "Shake It Off" in my top-5 from 1989 even though I consider it a great tune. I enjoyed your reaction a lot and I am so happy that you actually liked it. Some slow songs from Taylor that I personally love: This Love, Clean, State of Grace, Lover, Cornelia Street, New Year's Day, All Too Well. And there are more. Hopefully you will listen to them sooner rather than later, which would mean that you are doing a Taylor season :) Brilliant reaction as always, Jon.
Clean is the best out of 1989 though, for me. I LOVE me some Dear John from her as well, and that acoustic version of Death By a Thousand Cuts was a beauty.
I have also been questioning that myself..but I don't think I can replace red...I'll just keep red folklore side by side as the best albums ever made PERIOD. 🥺♥️
He really needs to react to RED or lover, RED has all too well, state of grace, i almost do, etc, and lover has Cornelia street, death by a thousand cuts and daylight. Taylor has always made music like this, and her singles are only to appeal to the main public.
I mean she still is appealing to the main public. There's albums are alternatives for people who don't usually listen to that genre. Which isn't bad at all, the music's amazing
I think this was one of the most sincere and truly honest reactions I have seen from this album, I loved it and I loved your opinion about it, you were absolutely right in many aspects and I have to say you got yourself a new subscriber!
I’m a huge fan of hers, but this album even blew me away, lol. Just phenomenal on her part. If you like lyricism, I’d suggest Red by her (but you should check all her stuff out). Great reaction!
She's a lyrical genius. RED is another masterpiece along with speak now(entirely self written bcoz media scrutinized her that she didn't write her own song, so she proved them wrong) Singles are singles, chart oriented. With this album she said 🖕🏽 charts. Actually my tears ricochet is about big machine. All songs are with respect to created characters in her mind. All her past covers focused on her which meant it's her story. But folklore cover has out of main focus bcoz it's not her story entirely.
@Umamaheswari G Sorry I don’t want to offend anyone. But no I don’t think she’s a genius. I think people will always call their idols a “genius” for no reason even if what they’re doing isn’t something genius
I feel a bit frustrated whenever I hear someone say that she's finally come through and exceeded their expectations. Her songwriting has always been this brilliant ever since she came out with her first album. But people couldn't see past her persona created around her personal life. Listen to blank space. An example of her genius lyricism to write a character that was drawn from the image portrayed by the media. Even though it was a pop song, the lyrics still delivered a masterful play on words. But people either miss the point or intentionally dismiss it because they can't stand her and hate her guts for petty reasons. So yeah...let her music speak for itself, keep an open mind, have a big heart and just enjoy the music.
Yessssssssssss. This album is incredible but Mad Woman is not only about Scooter Braun, but about being gaslit and manipulated into not even being able to react appropriately. And it's about the female experience with Taylor acknowledging that even Scooter's wife knows he ain't shit but she won't do anything because SHE doesn't wanna get called "crazy" either.
And more than Scooter. I’m pretty sure it’s about Kanye and Kim. Kim doing “the dirty work” by posting the video and tweeting. And how it “brought them together” to attack her.
@@bibyz1171 no, the only mention of kanye kardashian is in peace. This would be more fitting to 🛴(the women like hunting witches too line it could be 🛴's wife, poot lovato, kacey mangroves, sia) and the wanting me death has really brought you two together it would be about scott and 🛴
I'm so glad you gave Epiphany the love it deserves. It still kills me to listen to them. The album comes from a more fictional point of view, with different characters interacting in songs (the teen love triangle being Cardigan, August and Betty, each told from someone's perspective) I do think she threaded herself through the story in multiple times (invisible string and peace sounding far more grounded in what we've heard from her in past projects) I think you would really enjoy her reputation era because the productions and lyrics seem to be more geared to your liking! Thanks for the reaction, I loved it!
@@johnp.smithasimpleman7281 why does it matter how many albums they have listened to ? This album is the second most critically acclaimed of the year for a reason.
@@saakshishetty7786 I’m not talking about her albums, I’m talking about music in general. Also it’s not very hard to have the second most acclaimed album of the year, the competition these days is not too fierce.
You should definitely give her old songs another chance. Her singles from her previous albums are usually her weakest songs as it's made for the general public. The rest of her songs are gems like the ones you heard here 💗
You reacting to Folklore has made my day. Didn’t expect this at all and I love watching reactions from people who aren’t necessarily fans. Very enjoyable.
idle worship Agree! I feel that Daylight is best song on Lover, followed by The Archer.. but generally speaking Lover didn’t do it for me and even more so now that this album is out. He might actually find reputation more interesting. But Red for sure.
Yeah Me! By Taylor Swift wasn't a good song at all and it was never meant to be one ,but the same album contained songs like lover, death by a thousand cuts, Cornelia Street, soon you'll get better which had gorgeous lyrics, so I don't think you should judge her by her singles
im still mad taylor let brendon urie take in charge of its lyrics but me! goes perfectly with the vibes and aesthetic of ‘lover’ so I can’t complain either but yeah I still prefer the direction of ‘folklore’ than ‘lover’
@@Angel-fq9re and they still think Taylor wrote that bridge which is frustrating lol besides Me! is meant to be a silly, happy song so I don't get the hate
She is an incredibly genius songwriter. My tears ricochet is actually about her old record label selling her masters and leaving the label and how betrayed she felt after being there 15 years and Scott Borchetta being like a second father to her. “Stolen lullabies” “crossing out the good years” “cursin my name, wishing I stayed.” I think a lot of songs on this album are about that pain. I believe the 1 and hoax are also about Scott and I think mad woman is partially scooter Braun but also obviously Kim and Kanye from “women like hunting witches too, doing your dirtiest work for you/it’s obvious that wanting me dead has really brought you two together” also betty, cardigan, and august are a love triangle from each person’s perspective with cardigan being betty’s perspective years later, reflecting on young love and how that person stays frozen in your mind at the age you met them, betty is James’s point of view coming back saying “would you believe me if I told you it was just a summer thing?” And august is the other girls point of view BUT it’s also theorized to be a love triangle between her, the fans, and Scott Borchetta with cardigan being a love letter to the fans “when I felt like an old cardigan under someone’s bed, YOU (the fans) put me on and Said I was your favorite (musician), august being about her music (you were never mine to lose) and Betty being what she wishes Scott would say to her to make it better. She is INCREDIBLE. The deep cuts are always hidden in the albums. Most singles do not accurately represent the genius that is hidden in a TS album. If you like the slower, sad, vulnerable type of lyrics, you should def check out Red ❤️
Yes, I love watching non-fan reactions to this album! The thing is, if you listen to her previous records, you'll see that the songrwriting has always been there, but I don't know why, she always pick arguably the worst songs on the albums as their lead single (ME!, Shake it Off, etc). If you're interested in a similar record from her, listen to Red. It's much poppier, but the lyrics are great.
And Red has one of the best slow songs Taylor has ever produced, which is "All Too Well". As I wrote in my comment, Taylor with her singles can give the impression that she does basic, pop music when that's not exactly true, at least for me
@@juanitolotoon treacherous and state of grace acoustic are gold too. almost the entirety of red is sooo good, its definitely tied with folklore for me in terms of songwriting.
TÝNA exactly. her singles are like that for a reason. they’re meant to be addicting and to be stuck in your head. songs like ‘all too well’ wont exactly be as commercially successful as ‘shake it off’
I actually might be standing alone here when i say i love invisible string, I've been in love with the same person for a while now but before we were together we had crossed paths in so many ways that we didn't even realize until we had shared our pasts with each other. Just subtle little passes in a hall or first interactions that i didn't realize at the time but now give me certainty we were made for each other. To me when i first heard invisible string i found myself in complete understanding of the story it was telling, it was basically my story. Its not sombre and haunting like the other tracks yes i can agree to that, but it brings a reminder to me that through all the hardship and heartbreak, invisible strings will bring you to the light at the end of a dark tunnel. Its so special to hear Taylor sing a song about a happy refelection of love she's found :)
Yes and no. I am a big fan myself, and I absolutely agree with everyone who says that she always made songs with beautiful lyric (storytelling), and they were never cookie-cutter or simple. But this is her most magical record, as far as the complexity of the melodies and lyrics too. The type of drums on this album, the cello, the violin - this is a new sound for her. It is not the same as her innocent and bubbly country records. Definitely not the same as RED - RED was brilliant, but still a different style. I think what's different about this album and maybe why some people say it's more "mature," is that other albums are overflowing with lots of young energy, and this one is seemingly quiet and calm, but it invokes emotions from deep down.
@@markjosephcayanan9504 I would just recommend you to listen to more music, specially music with instruments. Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Instrumental Music, Bluegrass, Classical Music etc... then you’ll see what real complexity is. This is not what I would call complex in any kind of way.
She confirmed that there is a love triangle story that overarch between three songs. Each song tells the story from the perspective of each party involved from different times of their lives. Betty’s (cardigan), the mistress (august) “remember when i pulled up and said get in the car”, James’ (betty):”now im standin in your cardigan” “she said james get in, lets drive”
Omg people really don’t know Taylor at all. I hope this makes people actually listen to her lyrics and music. She knocks it out of the park yet again. 🥺
Cardigan, August, and Betty are connected and written by the perspectives of different characters. The three characters are Betty, James and a girl James cheats on Betty with (Inez). - Cardigan: Betty’s perspective - August: Inez’s perspective - Betty: James’ perspective Cardigan is split into three parts: Before, during, and after the breakup with James In August, Inez has a summer fling with James but even while he’s spending time with her, he’s still thinking about Betty. But Inez believes that what her and James had was real. In the song “Betty”, James comes back to Betty. Betty mentions towards the end of Cardigan that she knew he’ll come back to her. Also the names of these characters, James, and Inez are names of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ children. They are very close friends with Taylor, so Betty is speculated to be the name of their third child.
Laura Cin ohh ok that makes more sense! I got this info somewhere on the internet and I was kind of confused about why Inez would spread rumours to Betty if she was the one who betrayed her. Also yeah I love this song!
@@lillight7678 we were kind all over the place with the theories at the beginning but know that its been a few day's it makes more sense when you listen to it ❤
I'm enjoying all of these album reactions from non Taylor swift fans.. You guys are missing out on a lot. Her song writing is her best weapon. The imagery in her lyrics is *chef's kiss* Although I'm still a bit bitter that Lover era was short lived, I'm fcking happy she gave us folklore. Such a masterpiece album tbh
I think my tears ricochet will grow on you, it was not great to place it after the masterpiece that was exile tbh. It was produced by Jack Antonoff as well and it’s brilliant, definitely needs a few more listens to fully appreciate :)
Make a jump and go back to her Speak Now album. She wrote it completely alone and it's just unfiltered teenage emotions in a good way. So many bangers.
This is honestly one of the best reactions I've seen to this album. So real and genuine! Outside of the more commercial songs she is actually most appreciated for this type of songwriting by her fans. All Too Well is one of her best songs I think! :)
@@Blueeut Yeah. I said these three because they are very less country and i guess, it would be nice to start from pop album so that he can get used to Taylor's style a lil bit. 😅
one of the great things about this album is that not every song is about personal experiences, that’s why it’s called folklore. there are three songs (august, cardigan and betty) that tell the story of a love triangle and each song is the pov of one of these three people. cardigan: the person who was cheated on betty: the guy who cheated august: the person who the guy cheated on with
Wasn’t expecting this one from you, but when I saw it, my first thought was ‘he’s going to love exile’. Amazing reaction and thank you for giving it a chance! She’s always been incredibly talented lyrically, but this easily knocked my number one album from her out of the top spot on first listen.
DO MORE TAY PLEASEEEE, RED album is kinda of similar to this one, but for real she is used to release as singles her worstish or more popish songs of every album haha she's so much more to offer, a favorite of mine and top song (All too well), she has always beeen a GREAT lyricist person. I love your reviews cause you go deep on songs like all should, started watching you cause the weeknd but stayed cause of your profund reviews in al aspects of songs not just sounds and catchy songs, great reviewer keep up the great work! (and do more tay you will not regret)
People shocked at Taylor’s songwriting talent clearly haven’t been paying attention. Taylor is not just ME! or LWYMMD or Ready for it (which I love, btw)
Loving the levels of appreciation of different genres here, loving to see the community come together for it too. I hadn’t given this album a chance but I always find your input genuine and insightful, Jon. Kinda takes me back to Rock Reacts in the way you’re delving into music that isn’t in the expected scope. Thank you for the content as per!
This is much less surprising to people who listen to her old stuff/full albums. Listening to her singles doesn’t give the full scope of her as an album artist.
Thank you for taking the step into Taylor's work, and I'm happy you enjoyed it, I would highly recommend the album1989, much more pop but also great story telling and production
This album is a real grower for sure. On first listen I liked it, but felt that a couple of the songs toward the end lacked impact. On second listen, I started to like those songs, and with each subsequent listen I've liked the album even more. Genuinely a great record And Exile is an absolute JAM
I just recently became a fan of hers. I was just totally unaware. I decided to actively listen to her music a few months ago and I was stunned. Not just by her latest stuff but also by really old songs. She's just an amazing songwriter.
LOVER Album doesn’t maintain the tone of ME!, there’re some beautiful songs like The archer, Cornelia street, Death by a thousand cuts, Soon you’ll get better, FALSE GOD❤️,afterglow and daylight . Rest of the songs give you happy and loved kind of high school vibes but ultimately it’s a good album.
I think This Love from her album 1989 is the song from her other albums that would fit into this album the best, it has the same laid back but emotional vibes. There's a few others that are in a similar vein too like Begin Again and Sad Beautiful Tragic from Red and Safe & Sound from the Hunger Games soundtrack. This is her only album that doesn't really have any fast paced songs though, he other albums all have at least 4-5.
Bon Iver is one of my favorite artists of all time. You should check out some of his songs. 715 creeks, the wolves, skinny love, or re: stacks would be great starts.
The fact that this album was written and recorded entirely during quarantine is simply incredible. Her best album by far and this is coming from a long time Taylor Stan! Hope you go back to react to some of her older records because those have some true gems!
I was definitely not expecting this today from you! Lol this album is very complex, it tells a story from different point of views of a love triangle. Some people say it’s the story of Rebekah who was mentioned on the third song (Taylor bought her Rhode Island house from her a couple years back). She made up a story of these lives and wrote an album, that’s why she called it folklore. She started writing this album late April of this year. I feel like you would truly enjoy her other albums, she’s always been such a strong song writer, her singles definitely NEVER represent the album lyrically (and sometimes even sonically). Please react to her older albums 😊
I’ll keep saying it for anybody who will listen: TAYLOR SWIFT HAS BEEN WRITING LYRICS THIS GOOD FOR OVER A DECADE!! And I agree, I get visibly angry whenever I have to listen to ME! (like have to turn off the radio or throw my phone across the room if it comes on type of angry 😂😂)
i always love seeing unexpected people react to Taylors albums and be shocked and confused. Her singles never show her full talent. She writes all her songs and she is a master storyteller. speak now is a favorite of mine and she wrote the whole album by herself if anyone is interested. nice reaction :)
as a Taylor fan, I ask myself all the time how she can write songs like this and also ME!. Often times her singles are more radio oriented or quite different than the deep- cuts on her album which have deeper meaning & storytelling. If you like the style & songwriting on these I recommend checking out RED and Speak Now :-)
Coney Island Queen “bars” or “spitting bars” refers to a rapper’s lyrics being really good. So he’s complimenting Taylor’s lyrics by being sarcastic and asking if there are bars in this one.
@@mattwalsh615 Thank you for clarifying this! English is not my first language either, and although I speak it fluently, I am not into hip-hop, so I've never heard this expression.
Checkout speak now album of hers after this,it's written start to finish by her ALONE,without a single co-writer and red You would especially like her Collab with Gary lightbody of snow patrol on red called the last time since you liked exile,it's like a younger sister of exile and one of her best collabs before exile...those were her peak albums before folklore where her writing was phenomenal and the sound and melodies were amazing too...
This entire album is not about her personal life and breakups, instead the songwriting is more fictional and story based. She creates vivid character arcs for example: a ghost at her own wake and seeing herself being surrounded by her enemies; a woman who is shunned by her entire town; a teenage love triangle and why it’s so hard to get over teenage romance; a boy who is growing up to accept himself. The album showcases her songwriting and storytelling, how she has the ability to create characters and tell stories from their perspectives. This is a sign of a mature artist and this genre overall really suits her.
So great to see people actually put their misconceptions to the side and actually give Taylor Swift a chance. Actually listen to her music and her work and you will be completely blown away. You should deff check out her previous albums. Great reaction!!
It's always amazing when someone who has only heard Taylor's singles hears a whole album and gets hit in the head by the deep cuts that weren't singles... 😳😳
Red is another album with stellar songwriting!! Rep as well. Personally wasn't in love with Lover, but there are still incredibly written tracks in that album as well
Honestly I would love to see you branch out into different genres more! I've found that most of my favourite albums from this year and last are mainly not rap. Still love the content no matter what tho 😄
I've watched sooo many reaction (because I loved the album so much) and this one it's one of my favorites! It was nice seeing your arch from "this is nice" to "top 5 album of the year". Besides, you really pointed out all the aspects of the album that makes it so great, the production, melodies, songwriting, imagery, etc. Well done!
I was never a Taylor Swift fan, of course I knew her international hits played on repeat on the radio, but i never felt pulled torwards her music. A few weeks ago I don't know why, my instagram explore page started showing me posts about Taylor, some clips from concerts ect. That's how i found out about folklore right away and was hella intrigued in this surprise album. I WAS BLOWN AWAY from the first song in. The melody, the lyrics, the melancholy - absolutely transfixed. After I was finished I thought to myself - "I WANT JON DENTON REACTION, he reacted to Lana so maybe he'll do it too, but nah - if he were to, he would probably react in chronological order like with Lana and it would take forever" and NOT A DAY HAD PASSED and You uploaded! Made my day. Great work Man, Lots of love from Poland
Glad you finally came around and stopped comparing her work to other artists and her previous work. This album speaks for itself and that is it. It is absolutely magnificent and definitely something that will stand the test of time. Trust me when i say you enjoy an artist's work alot more when you come in with a blank canvas.
It’s kinda sad that people think Taylor has only been making songs like ME! or shake it off lol those songs were made singles for commercial success and it’s also a marketing strategy but I can promise you that the Taylor Swift non singles are MUCH MUCH better than what the singles show you.

Which makes sense considering which songs she usually chooses as her singles. But still, it's a shame those songs are the ones that represent her when she's so much more than just Shake it Off!

👏👏👏 shes an incredible writer
She should take more control of her single releases tbh. Why would anyone check out an album if they hate the single? You don't hear a song you hate and go 'oh wow I need to listen to this album!' Dude never ever judge Taylor's album from her singles. She literally pick worst songs from her album as a singles and hides deep cuts in the album. Just check any of her album (I would suggest country). Your opinion about her will change instantly.
Eh for the most part yes, but songs like Blank Space, Wildest Dreams, and Style are easily some of her best songs period

GOD BLESS YOU SON
You are wonderful!!
Thank you!!!
Have seen you several times in so many channels, thanks so much for the effort!!
Another great thing about this channel is,....bro reacts to different genres of music from different artist
Thankyou for appreciating Dancing with our hands tied
The acoustic version of Dancing with our hands tied from the rep tour made it one of my favorite Taylor songs ever
exactly. all too well is one of my absolute favorites, and very in line with the style from this album.
@@justkimnikko tbh it's my fav song from reputation..the uncertainty in this song, the way she says she had a bad feeling...the vocals everything...followed by call it what you want and so it goes/komh
@@Ashley-bj3sl true it is in top 5 Taylor songs of mine and my personal fav from reputation
My Tears Ricochet isn't about a break up, it's about her previous record label that sold off all of her music. She's still haunting them because they "killed" her
I love this theory
the song is even sadder when i think of it this way. she felt so betrayed by scott borchetta and you can hear the pain in this song.
it could also be about that but she said it's about an “embittered tormentor showing up at the funeral of his fallen object of obsession."
I agree with you.
Whatever said and done she makes millions.
@@MissNymwhen i think it fits cause story telling is kinda slow in every sense, hence folklore, passing on stories to people
agree!!!
Epiphany making him cry is the exact reaction half of us had when we listened to it
I heard Epiphany first while driving home. Bad idea. I was wrecked (figuratively). Esp. since I'm a lifelong soldier who also just spent 100+ days fighting COVID.
@@MarkMcNeel13 Thanks. But I guess my comment was unclear. I didn't have COVID. I was helping state government fight COVID for 4+ months.
This is like a full circle moment for Taylor, the country roots she comes from shown through here, it was a real folk pop album and I love it. Seriously her best work yet.
taylor said it was, indie alternative
Also fun fact, Jack Antonoff has said that no one trusted in his ability to produce until Taylor and him started making music together back in 2013. It was only after she worked with him that labels let him produce for other people. It’s crazy to think how many great albums he’s worked on might not exist if that hadn’t happened!
Imagine writing, recording, and producing an album this great in 3 months time? She's a fucking genius! Her song writing is next level. So glad she chose to work with some of my favorite people on this!
And now evermore!
She literally wrote Evermore album 5 months write after the release of folklore!!

seven is my favourite. it’s about a child’s point of view of her friend who’s in an abusive house hold, seen in a very naive light where she just wants her friend to be happy but doesn’t understand what’s going on :,(
That one is my favorite as well
Seven is my favorite too! It really takes you back to childhood. The music just sounds nostalgic on its own and then the lyrics about screaming ferociously just because she wanted... ahh.
That song made me cry so hard on the first listen
This is a beautiful album but for us who have been fans of her since her first album it totally makes sense
totally
Yep her sound changed but not the songwriting. She's always been this good
She is a legend.
the fact that you listen to so many different artists is what makes your channel stand out man you’re amazing.. 👏👏
Everyone always says,”She’s had so many boyfriends.” When really, she’s had 8 exes and she’s currently in a 4 year committed relationship.
Yeah and 'my tears ricochet' it's about her old discrographic.
yup
Right, and when I found that out, I counted my own exes and was like, huh, I have more... And just rolled my eyes after that when ppl complained that she dated around too much or whatever lol
Some of those “relationships” were literally a month or two while living in separate cities. I don’t think she ever dated around, not that it would matter. It’s just the media was obsessed with her love life since she was 16, and she wrote about some. The media made it a bigger deal than it was. And the writing about her boyfriends argument…. So what. She went through hell for it so that the next generation (Olivia Rodrigo) can thankfully be praised for it.
It’s like people can’t grasp the concept that she uses the same exes for inspiration for multiple songs. Lol
Taylor said Lana is one of her favorite artists of the past decade, so that's probably why you're getting Lana-vibes from some of these songs
And they’ve both had albums produced by Jack Antonoff!

Completely agree
I have also been questioning that myself..but I don't think I can replace red...I'll just keep red folklore side by side as the best albums ever made PERIOD. 🥺♥️
Taniya Dutta is kinda the older, more mature sister. That’s how I see it, is the natural progression, I will keep it side by side too for sure.

He really needs to react to RED or lover, RED has all too well, state of grace, i almost do, etc, and lover has Cornelia street, death by a thousand cuts and daylight. Taylor has always made music like this, and her singles are only to appeal to the main public.

I’m a huge fan of hers, but this album even blew me away, lol. Just phenomenal on her part. If you like lyricism, I’d suggest Red by her (but you should check all her stuff out). Great reaction!

red and speak now are poetic masterpieces too, yes!
She's a lyrical genius. RED is another masterpiece along with speak now(entirely self written bcoz media scrutinized her that she didn't write her own song, so she proved them wrong)
Singles are singles, chart oriented. With this album she said 🖕🏽 charts.
Actually my tears ricochet is about big machine. All songs are with respect to created characters in her mind.
All her past covers focused on her which meant it's her story. But folklore cover has out of main focus bcoz it's not her story entirely.
Here from the future... SHE DOMINATING ALL THE CHARTS
She’s a good songwriter, but not a genius by any means
@Umamaheswari G Sorry I don’t want to offend anyone. But no I don’t think she’s a genius. I think people will always call their idols a “genius” for no reason even if what they’re doing isn’t something genius

Her lyrics express ideas so eloquently and so vividly that I can imagine the scenery in every song. It's wonderful.

"it conjures up images so well" welcome to taylor swift.
Yessssssssssss. This album is incredible but Mad Woman is not only about Scooter Braun, but about being gaslit and manipulated into not even being able to react appropriately. And it's about the female experience with Taylor acknowledging that even Scooter's wife knows he ain't shit but she won't do anything because SHE doesn't wanna get called "crazy" either.
because SHE doesn't wanna get called "crazy" either ---> thats reality and thats really sad too....
And more than Scooter. I’m pretty sure it’s about Kanye and Kim. Kim doing “the dirty work” by posting the video and tweeting. And how it “brought them together” to attack her.
The main theme is gaslighting but yeah it could be about 🛴 and all the big machine fiasco
@@bibyz1171 no, the only mention of kanye kardashian is in peace. This would be more fitting to 🛴(the women like hunting witches too line it could be 🛴's wife, poot lovato, kacey mangroves, sia) and the wanting me death has really brought you two together it would be about scott and 🛴
Agree. I Definitely hear scooter parallels in My Tears Ricochet and The Last Great American Dynasty.
I'm so glad you gave Epiphany the love it deserves. It still kills me to listen to them.
The album comes from a more fictional point of view, with different characters interacting in songs (the teen love triangle being Cardigan, August and Betty, each told from someone's perspective)
I do think she threaded herself through the story in multiple times (invisible string and peace sounding far more grounded in what we've heard from her in past projects)
I think you would really enjoy her reputation era because the productions and lyrics seem to be more geared to your liking!

@@Angel-fq9re and they still think Taylor wrote that bridge which is frustrating lol besides Me! is meant to be a silly, happy song so I don't get the hate
Cornelia street is highly illegal at how amazing of a song it is
The rule with Taylor: never judge her music by her singles, pls. Even we as fans have suffered
Great summary!

It grows on you so much! I think its extra sweet because its clearly about her and joe
Don't worry, you're not alone. I'm here to tell u that I stan this song 😍

This guy: WOW those are some bars, the lyrics are amazing.
Swifties that have been screaming this for years: VINDICATED
I mean, she had always made this kind of songs.
Exactly lmao
@@AnnaS-cz1oc Not to be rude, but this is not as complex as you think
@@johnp.smithasimpleman7281 then would you mind if I ask you to explain why?
- Cardigan: Betty’s perspective
- August: Inez’s perspective
- Betty: James’ perspective
Cardigan is split into three parts:
Before, during, and after the breakup with James
In August, Inez has a summer fling with James but even while he’s spending time with her, he’s still thinking about Betty.
The girl in August is not inez, inez is a friend of betty sadly we do get that girls name but is a beautiful song
Inez is James's sister. Inez and James are actually the names of Ryan Reynolds kids
Laura Cin ohh ok that makes more sense! I got this info somewhere on the internet and I was kind of confused about why Inez would spread rumours to Betty if she was the one who betrayed her. Also yeah I love this song!

one of the great things about this album is that not every song is about personal experiences, that’s why it’s called folklore. there are three songs (august, cardigan and betty) that tell the story of a love triangle and each song is the pov of one of these three people. cardigan: the person who was cheated on
betty: the guy who cheated

This is much less surprising to people who listen to her old stuff/full albums. Listening to her singles doesn’t give the full scope of her as an album artist.
Thank you for taking the step into Taylor's work, and I'm happy you enjoyed it, I would highly recommend the album1989, much more pop but also great story telling and production
This album is a real grower for sure. On first listen I liked it, but felt that a couple of the songs toward the end lacked impact. On second listen, I started to like those songs, and with each subsequent listen I've liked the album even more. Genuinely a great record
And Exile is an absolute JAM

He need to react to “22 a million”
8 (circle) one of his best!
All of her albums have song writing like this and the other songs on her albums are always so much better than the ones she releases as singles
I AGREE, people should never judge Taylor only by her singles! Also, I love your username
I’ll keep saying it for anybody who will listen:
TAYLOR SWIFT HAS BEEN WRITING LYRICS THIS GOOD FOR OVER A DECADE!!
And I agree, I get visibly angry whenever I have to listen to ME! (like have to turn off the radio or throw my phone across the room if it comes on type of angry 😂😂)
I like ME! tho....
i always love seeing unexpected people react to Taylors albums and be shocked and confused. Her singles never show her full talent. She writes all her songs and she is a master storyteller. speak now is a favorite of mine and she wrote the whole album by herself if anyone is interested. nice reaction :)
If you enjoy it you should definitely check out Phoebe Bridgers album Punisher
Yes 100%! One of my favorites of the year, Garden Song into Kyoto into Punisher is 10/10 perfection.
Yes! I hope he listens to her at some point, I Know the End is the best song I’ve heard all year tbh
YES!
as a Taylor fan, I ask myself all the time how she can write songs like this and also ME!. Often times her singles are more radio oriented or quite different than the deep- cuts on her album which have deeper meaning & storytelling. If you like the style & songwriting on these I recommend checking out RED and Speak Now :-)
Listening to "This is me trying"
"Sorry, are there some bars on this one?"
Yes. Yes there are.
What's that suppose to mean? English is not my firts language, I've never heard that expression before
Coney Island Queen “bars” or “spitting bars” refers to a rapper’s lyrics being really good. So he’s complimenting Taylor’s lyrics by being sarcastic and asking if there are bars in this one.
@@mattwalsh615 thank you 😊
@@mattwalsh615 Thank you for clarifying this! English is not my first language either, and although I speak it fluently, I am not into hip-hop, so I've never heard this expression.
Checkout speak now album of hers after this,it's written start to finish by her ALONE,without a single co-writer and red
You would especially like her Collab with Gary lightbody of snow patrol on red called the last time since you liked exile,it's like a younger sister of exile and one of her best collabs before exile...those were her peak albums before folklore where her writing was phenomenal and the sound and melodies were amazing too...
Great reaction!!
finally someone who gives epiphany the attention it deserves ✨
I hoped but never expected that you'd react to this album. Great vídeo, man!!
Should check out "What's Your Pleasure?" by Jessie Ware
YES!!!
Yessssss
good album
That's a great album
ALSO BEST ALBUM Of
2020
It's always amazing when someone who has only heard Taylor's singles hears a whole album and gets hit in the head by the deep cuts that weren't singles... 😳😳
REPUTATION is one of her best albums, The reputation concerts are like crazy. You gotta react to it man.
Agreed! Her best album!
duuuude, you totally have to dive into Taylor's discography. She's always been a brilliant songwriter. 🤩
This album is amazing! Congratulations Taylor Swift. My current most listened to songs.
Red is another album with stellar songwriting!! Rep as well. Personally wasn't in love with Lover, but there are still incredibly written tracks in that album as well
Can't wait for TROPICO! Where is it? You promised that you would do a reaction! 💜
Wasn’t expecting 3 surprise album drops this past week! Tropico v soon
Oh thank you! On this occasion I want to ask you for doing a reaction to Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant , please🤗
I’m so glad he decided to react to this!!! people who listen to all kinds of good music and give it a chance>>>
Great work Man,
Lots of love from Poland
Glad you finally came around and stopped comparing her work to other artists and her previous work. This album speaks for itself and that is it. It is absolutely magnificent and definitely something that will stand the test of time. Trust me when i say you enjoy an artist's work alot more when you come in with a blank canvas.
jon, you need to react to punisher by phoebe bridgers! it’s a similar album to this which is also heavily influenced by elliott smith
I want him to hear this so bad. Such a great album
Jacob Vereen yeah me too😢 especially because he appreciates good song writing so much
yes!!! punisher and folklore are two of my favorites so far this year
