also, i just got the weirdest ad on this video: a woman explaining a mango to me for a full 4 minutes? Like i watched the hole thing, expecting some kind of twist, but nope. I'm confused 😂
the men of the 1000s worrying about men worrying too much about their hair rather than being masculine is cracking me up... some things don't change lmao
I LOVE when you do historical videos like this - I am fascinated by them. Thank you for all of your hard work and for teaching me some fascinating things!
georgia would you consider covering the case of david kenyon webster? he was in the 101st airborne division, 506th regiment, e company of the US army during WW2 and in the 1960s he went missing and has never been heard from again.
at 22:57, the particular wording here definitely reminds me of handfasting! a celtic marriage tradition that includes literal tying of the hands with ceremonial cords to symbolise the strength of the relationship, its a really interesting tradition that i think is ultimately very lovely
I gotta say, seeing you smiling on the thumbnail of this video is just so, so beautiful. I had been keeping this on my "watch later" list because I just loved seeing your smile. You are beautiful.
hi georgia, I absolutely love your videos and have watched them for ages. just wanted to say that this video was so well-researched!! I did a history module at uni on medieval men and masculinities, and you mentioned all the primary sources (and more!) that we analysed in the bit about William Rufus :) please keep making these queer history videos, they're brilliant! 🥰
like you said, you could literally make a soap opera out of some of these events 😂 she probably didn't think it was funny, but poor isabella randomly getting arrested for being french made me laugh
When you said, “apart from our current King…” I literally said, who?! Cause I don’t think I’ll ever get used to you guys having a king instead of Queen Elizabeth 😂😂
you asked if there was a tv show about james the VI and I and there is!! it’s called Mary & George and it focuses on george villiers and his mothers’ political rise, including all the carr drama. quite a bit of it is fictionalized though!
Fascinating episode. ❤ As a bi woman, I find this subject interesting. It's nice to hear about the secret lives of the wealthy and powerful of the past. I hope you do another one.
I had a kick where I got into old english history and monarchy a couple years ago. I'd forgotten most of it minus one of the kings mentioned in this vid.
I find this so fascinating. There are so many factors in trying to evaluate historical figures through modern lenses.. Its so hard to know with many historical figures.. Were the tabloid of the time trying to smear their character for any plethora of reason? were rumors of gayness spread by their political rivals, in an attempt to turn favor against them? How much of the whisperings their of gayness indicative of actual queer attraction?
Georgia, I enjoyed your video this week and more and more than usual. I always do but such a fascinating subject. Not likely to find anything so well researched and constructed with good taste and humor. With letting RUclips ads play and from habit of playing video as I go get a drink or whatever the case... I have a few RUclipsrs that I know are safe to play in whatever company))) even company at work. I went for a drink and came back to point of vibrators with thumbs and clitoris and I just sat down. What else could I do? Lmao You have a new subscriber I think and I have had an interesting day. 😅 I just had the opportunity to return and listen to what I missed. I ended up being the last to know the offer in full. "I thought you said that was true crime?" I said weird random things. Like, Yeah she does... "she somethings, she, it she varies on topics or whatever." "Not just true crime, we take breaks" "heavy material and people getting slaughtered... No idea where that came from... I just stopped talking.) All I wanted to say, History also. lol Thank You for your content all together. I have enjoyed it more so lately. Tks
as a non binary english perosn who loves history (especially the history of royals) i love videos like these. i was wondering if maybe you could do a video on (possibly and verified) disabled people in history? i have autism and i recently discovered there’s a very high possibility that isaac newton was autistic, which made me weirdly happy. and it made me wonder about all the other disabled people in history that didn’t know they were disabled at the time/were ignored and painted in a negative light because of their disability (ie, richard III)
Ooh interesting idea! I’ll have a look into it, I might not be the best person for the job as I’m not super up on disability history like I am queer stuff but I’ll see what I think!
Very fascinating subject!👍 As an entry in the Hitchhiker's Guide mentions: "the best way not to be unhappy is to not have a word for it." ~ ~ A major drawback to a bountiful vocabulary in an organized society is that once you have a word for something, they can finally write a law to make it illegal. (However I do find the contemporary terms for identities pretty interesting; apparently I'm a heteromantic asexual in today's nomenclature, but I tacitly knew that from the get-go)
Through DNA and documentation, I have discovered that I have strong ties to England and the early Kings of England. I always listen for the names Georgia drops to get the tea on my former ancestors. Especially, if I hear of anything on the Tudors, Ladys, Baronesses, Knights, Sirs, Etc My nickname among my family and friends is actually Lady Gray. Since Gray is my actually last name 😂
People act as if we haven't always speculated on the love lives of royalty. I would be shocked if some of these people weren't gay and it doesn't even seem to have really been a secret
Sorry, don't want to be that person, but I think you got mixed up because James was the 4th monarch, he was James 6th of Scotland and 1st of England not James 4th of Scotland and 1st of England. (That looks really weird not in roman numerals but I it's probably easier to look at given 4 is IV and 6 is VI 😅)
I beliwve James I was James VI of Scotland, not James IV...jusy sayin'. I did also know about a lot of these because I do spend a lot of time watching history documentries-Queen Anne in particular I find very interesting!
I found out through genealogical data that I'm a direct descendant of Marjorie Bruce of Scotland and also John Napier, a mathematician. All the math genes got diluted before it got to me.
This is not the channel for that kinda bullshit, if this content isn’t for you then just close it and move on, or alternatively watch and try to broaden your world view a little ✌🏻 knowledge is power

Literally, it made me giggle 🤣 men so sure a bit of femininity is going to lead to the end of society… and yet here we still are
ye olde alpha male

Omg yes 😂

I love that we as a society are finally realizing this about the old monarchs. It’s so interesting.
Queer history is how I found Georgia, so I'm thrilled to watch another one!
I gotta say, seeing you smiling on the thumbnail of this video is just so, so beautiful. I had been keeping this on my "watch later" list because I just loved seeing your smile. You are beautiful.
I’m an ally and I always think defend means there’s something wrong and there’s nothing wrong
I love this history episode ! So fascinating!
Thanks for posting I love learning about history and European monarchs

lol same. It took me a while to wrap my head around that. I forgot the queen’s son is actually a king now lol.
I know that I can always count on Georgia to say the quiet part out loud and clearly lay out the context. 🖤
Love Englands history! Keep it comming Georgia 🥰❤️
Woohoo thanks for helping me cook dinner tonight Georgia! ❤

I have never used the word queer for myself but just realized I am. I'm pan to the core even tho I am with a man. He is disabled and bisexual.
as a queer man, i always tell people this: I'm not half gay/half straight, i'm 100% bi. ♡
Brilliant. So interesting. Thank you.

"Even by those standards, James WAS a little bit gay" 😂😂😂
Another amazing, informative video as always 🩷
so excited to watch this!!! ❤
“Sometimes people are just gay” is my new favourite quote ever 😂
I LOVE a good history video 🥳
First 20 sec, and i had to rewind thinking I heard wrong. Nope, that is definitely what you said. 😂 Caught me off guard. 😂😂
I love learning about queer historical figures! ❤❤
Very fascinating subject!👍

I love family history/ancestry stuff, it’s so interesting! So many of us must be linked somewhere hundreds of years ago
History can be so interesting (and gruesome 🫣) 😊 Thank you Georgia 👏🏻
It really is!

Hahahaha I found out I’m related to Shakespeare and his genius was also diluted 💔
@@georgiamarie_omg what
🤘🤘🤘
Did you look at William of Orange? I think he was rumoured to be gay too.
I wouldn’t have a good attitude if I lost all my children, either…
Well and back in the old days didn't dudes who were actors wear dresses?
Fashions were different, men wore dresses and heels and makeup and did their hair and all sorts at points in time!
Thought so and speaking of fashion beautiful earrings.@@georgiamarie_
