“Time to eat all your words, swallow your pride, open your eyes”. Favorite line in the whole tune.!
That line is relevant to alot of people who need open their eyes in this world.
I didn't notice for years that the electronic voice in the background repeats 'words', 'pride' and 'eyes' in that bit
Definitely not verbatim of what she said & she included "stay woke" in that sentence, which makes me want to puke.
@@davidmackeown9318 Very true, but don't leave out eating our words and swallowing our pride too. There's probably even more of us that need to do that.
@@_MjG_ Yes but that phrase has been captured. She meant the OG meaning.. I get it.
Just saw them last year and their sound and singing quality is still stellar. Awesome show that featured this song and all the rest of their hits in a great outdoor venue, Budweiser Stage, on Lake Ontario in Toronto. I was amazed at how good they still are in front of the biggest packed crowd I've seen there in the last 10 years.
I’m so jealous!
Tickets sold out before I knew they were having a concert with them , New Order, B-52’s and some other awesome 80’s bands.
I saw them also! I saw them live decades ago. Still going strong. Love their new album.
Love Tears For Fears. This song is good, different and creative! The video won an award.
Asia & BJ, you'll love their "Head over Heels", "Change" and "Pale Shelter"!!
Pale Shelter! One of their best!
I've always loved mothers talk also
Yes those are excellent songs, don’t forget about “Shout”
@@donnaly5146 they reacted to Shout Mar 22, 2022. they've also done ..Rule The World and Sowing The Seeds...
You would love Woman in Chains by Tears for Fears featuring the incomparable Oleta Adams. Oleta sung backup vocals and toured with Tears for Fears in the late 80s when they were extremely popular.
Yes an amazing track
Some very of-the-time UK references here. I was 15 in 1989 when this came out and just starting to become aware of politics.
"Politician granny with your high ideals, have you no idea of how the majority feels?" is a reference to the then UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher - it proved prophetic as she was outed from power a year later ...
"Food goes to waste, so nice to eat, so nice to taste" is a reference to the EEC (forerunner of the EU) butter mountains and milk lakes which were making headlines at the time, and seemed obscene in the light of recent famines in Africa.
"Kick out the style, bring back the jam" was a reference to UK mod legend Paul Weller's band The Style Council, which was a very different style to his earlier band The Jam and seemed to reflect 80s slick excess and materialistic attitude much more (at least as far as their image went) and perhaps seemed a far cry from the raw and relateable late 70s/early 80s sound of The Jam. TFF seemed to be communicating their disapproval of their colleague's reinvention of himself and were suggesting he go back to his 'Jam' roots! :)
"Advice for the young at heart" is another Tears for Fears song! It's amazing song!
Asia. I think you'll love their song with Olita Adams.... Woman In Chains.
You can hear the Beatles influence in this track. Well done!
HUGE!!!👍👍
Totally! I love this song
Definetely
I think all bands try to write a Beatles song at some point. This was their effort, and it's top drawer
That's what I was thinking--BIG TIME/SERGEANT PEPPER 🌶️
We just saw them in July 2023 they’re in their early 60s now but they still sound as good as ever. It was one of the best concerts. I’ve been to in a long time.
This song has so many parts to it, it never gets old, especially with those Phil Collin’s-esque drum fills at the fade out.
Clearly hear The Beatles influence. Such a great song!🥳
"Woman in Chains" from the same album. A difficult subject, masterfully told, musically amazing.
I love Tears for Fears. Along with their earlier stuff, I just love this song and Break It Down Again. You guys need to listen to their song Woman in Chains. It's Tears for Fears and a woman named Oleta Adams that you should definitely check out.
And Phil Collins on drums.
It’s a Beatles homage , def NOT a Beatles rip off .. and theyve succeeded massively in their intention , epic track !
👍🏴
A Totally Agree ❤
This song and video are iconic 80s new wave pop. Tears for Fears are awesome and have a unique sound that screams 80s !! “Head Over Heels” is another great song by them !❤
Tears for Fears!!! from the 80s British Invasion to now...a huge fan. You should react to the song in the same album as this "WOMAN IN CHAIN"...another wonderful & emotional song.
Love tears for fears
I've seen them Live twice over the past 30 years. They sound amazing live!❤
This is my favorite song of theirs to blast!
Awesome song, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith are amazing! 🤘
love this band. so many memories.
Favorite song by them! Very Beatlesque
Masterpiece. ❤
TFF simply took Pop music to another level!
You guys should check out the title track from their album they released in 2022 called The Tipping Point.
So glad you pick the official video to react, in 80 & 90 videos were part of the puzzle art quite often, artists used to pass the message through lyrics and vodeo together. 🥰
Great song. Great album. Kick out the Style bring back the Jam
Great song. Great artist. Try- mad world
Well done! This group always has something to say when it comes to real issues. My favorite band while in my 20's to the present!
I saw them live over years ago. And I got to see them last year. I love this band! 🌞🌻❤☮
One of my very favorite groups and one of the best songs they did. Powerful. A message that needs to be heard today.
Tears for Fears did so many great songs and were at totally amazing group with such memorable songs
Whatever song of theirs you play it will be superb
Probably the most Beatles-influenced song I have heard.
A masterclass in song writing, ,melody, arrangement and craft. Pure genius. Tears for Fears/Roland Orzabal are on a level that very few can achieve and are in the same class as the Beatles from a composer standpoint.
As the years pass my appreciation for these guys just keeps growing. Listening to them as a kid they were great, and everyone knew that, but there's something timeless about their appeal. Not every band has that. They might not be iconic in the way the Beatles or some other pop bands are, but damn ... as familiar as you get with their songs you don't get sick of hearing them. Tears For Fears endures!
This was their last great hit. The style is very much like the Beatle's in "Srgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band" mixed with a little funk. I wish you guys could react to "Something About You" and "lessons in Love" by Level 42. They're an extremely underrated British band. You guys are great!
frankticasdroppinknowledge2363 The first time I heard this song it made me think of the Beatles I am the Walrus.
Advice For The Young At Heart is my personal fav off this album and yes, I still have the album and the cd.
Woman In Chains is my favorite on the album.
Brilliant song.
A great song from a great album.
OMG this is soooo 80s! Brings back memories. Glad you covered it.
An audial and visual masterpiece!
This song was Tears for Fears' second biggest hit song in America. The song did peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the late summer of 1989. This song is definitely have a Beatles-like influence circa 1967. A song like this could appeared on the Sgt. Pepper album. A definitely banger indeed!!!
fantastic song! this was a big time album!
Im obsessed with their latest album❤❤❤THE TIPPING POINT
Ty for reaction! Such a popular, yet ecclectic band. Interesting and unique tunes. Great lyrics all around.
Our pleasure!
Lat time I saw them live was early 2000's in a very small club in Miami. They rocked out big time . I was like 15 feet from the band . It was an explosive set
Beatles influence with melodies that could have graced ANY of The Fabs albums.
Superb stuff.
Great live too.
I'd love to see your reaction to 2 other Tears For Fears Songs, Advice For The Young At Heart and Woman In Chains.
Love you guys take on it all...Glad found you. Peace, Be Well.
great band original and soulfull - thats on of the best song int he 80s greatest UK band proud to be a great fan of these gys
I saw them a few years ago & they are still excellent!!! Love "Change" & "Mad World"
I listened to this song everyday of my freshman year of college. I’ll always love it.
I love Tears For Fears
This is more of an homage to The Beatles. Early TFF is best. Pale Shelter is my fav
They are one of my favorite all time bands. Even their new stuff, the released an album in late 2022, was amazing. Listen to Woman in Chains or Mad World.
Great choice…I hadn’t head this in years and I loved the group! ❤❤❤
This song is actually part of a soundtrack of a nifty little movie called “Greenfingers” that it seems like few people remember, although I enjoyed it. It starred Helen Mirren and Clive Owen.
I think Asia would appreciate 'Lavender' by the Scottish band Marillion. Such a lovely song
The song is a throwback to '60s nostalgia (big in the late '80s) with a nod to The Beatles and a kind of Flower Power philosophy to it, including political lyrics starting with "High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man" and ending with "An end to need and the politics of greed."
Written by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the lyrics in this song are a byproduct of Orzabal's interest in psychology and philosophy - he cites Sartre's Les Mains Sales and Arthur Janov's Primal Scream as literary influences. The song is a call to action, asking us to reject the status quo: "High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man."
Heard a lot of Beatles in there, great stuff !
It's fitting that this group released this song (I heard this song back in the late Summer of1989) to close out the 1980s.
Trippy! Great song!
A huge hit with a wall of sound!Sounds like The Walrus like back in The Beatles day!
Brilliant song
This song is like 3 songs in one..reminds me of Paul McCartney with Uncle Albert
Thanks guys. Songs from the Big Chair is my favorite TFF album.
Great band!! 👍🏻 👊🏼
Highly underrated.
@4:00ish.... "you do spend alot of time at Target. .... How's this on me???" Wow!!! =X-D I just love you two!
Great band from the 80's
Listen to Advice for the Young at Heart! Mesmerizing!
the politician granny with the high ideals was thatcher. who's government devastated Scotland Wales and the north of England. break it down is another great track but all of tears for fears have a solid message and sound. (Y) nice one.
Penny Lane, I Am The Walrus, etc. Love it.
Please react to "Woman In Chains" by TEARS For Fears ...
Glad u love good music guys!
I;ve loved this song since I was a teenager.. and yet revisiting it and focusing on the lyrics - it's VERY relevant right now. Don't let anyone tell you what to think. Think critically - our bond to each other can save us.. The "politics of greed.." has to GO. As Asia said - the song is super catchy and at the time lots of bands had songs along these lines so I think there was a tendency to not look further into it - at least maybe for me - or I didn't realize how serious the damage could be back then. This song has a message for us in 2024.
Is that your own song in the intro Asia? Sounds good!
Thank You!
sounds like the Beatles , they are a British Band Tears for Fears
The hook has definitely been in a commercial. Couldn't tell you which company but I definitely remember it.
As a lifelong lover of good music it is my opinion that Asia is drop dead gorgeous
Sucha banger back in 1989, times fly...
This song is just so deep and there’s so many other songs that are deep as well. People need to realize that the worlds problems didn’t just start. They started before my boomer parents, before my GenX self, before my millennial son and my GenZ daughter. What I find so sad is that we’re still battling the same problems and now new ones too
Their tribute to the Beatles 😎
"Can't we all just get along."- Rodney King
A lot of this song is "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles (sped up). I am shocked they weren't sued. But I loved this song so much!
its important not to let hipsters make you so sick that you get turned off to love.. find someone you can love.. its the point of living
Guys, I was reminded of this song in TJ Maxx…just sayin…
Awesome song 👍🏻
Their tribute to the Beatles
Slogan for life❤
Awesome!
You guys are great
Great reaction and song
That hook you couldn't place is likely something in a Beatles song. This song is a brilliant Beatle-esque tribute.
If i remember correctly, they worked on this song for well over a year to make it “perfect”.
That obsession, among other things contributed to them breaking up.
Also, they purposely sped the song up, subtly, as it goes. It ends faster than it begins
WHAT ABOUT : - , Adwice for the young at heart , Head over heels , Womans in chaince , Break it down again , Bad man's song , Elemental , Secrets ?
if you want some experiences check out woman is chains by tears for fears with oleta adams doing vocals roland orzabald of tears for fears is in my opinion the equivalet of what george michals was to wham .. i give him top spot for production and excellence .. the clarity of every word and sound in every song they made in an interview i heard oleta said at first i didn't want to do it what was recording with this pop band goin to do for my jazz career.. she also said i can't say i like the guy but what i learned about production and recording an album was well worth it .. i notice you have toni childs listed but not the song i've got to go now which is amazing and moving i came to this page to see if you had reactions to dax to be a man or the mega remix .and didn't see it but did notice many other names that i would suggest parallels to driving and cryin fly me coragious check out shotgum messiah living without you ,or lord tracy foolish love, then compair that to she's a bitch .. junkyard hands off.. possibly nighwish phantom of the opera .. the version with the lady in yellow singing is the best .. then compair Kanye's runaway to silversteins version.. i prevail's version of blank space to swifts.. or pierce the veil s version of just the way you are to bruno's i'll stop but i promise all of these are worth the time ..
Tears For Fears have always been profound Lyricists. Go back to their early 80s Songs before they became famous and you will see what great Songwriters they are. Go listen to Songs like "Change" or "Pale Shelter"....That is the TFF I knew!
Epic!
Oleta Adams is on keys.
This 80's guys!
Asia he didn't take the seed out of the ground then decide to put it back.he took the seed out of the bag of seeds and planted it.
The video is a big deal with the different things they did to get what you saw without CGI and computer programs like you have now.
☮️💙💙💙🔥😎
Definitely sounds like it could have been on “Sgt. Pepper”
Check out DISTURBED'S cover of Tears for Fears SHOUT LIVE 2000
✌❤🌻🎶🌎
They were heading to the future with their music, but the record company at that time in history wanted a catchy single, not a masterpiece album like this. example ,"Woman in Chains" featuring Olletta Adams, which Asia would love, Hmmm? Sounds like today
