    I remember hearing this on the radio almost every day back in 1985 as I was
    getting ready to graduate junior high school. You could hear it in the malls,
    in taxi cabs, on the radio (even Black radio was playing Tears For Fears "Shout"
    regularly)
    What a glorious summer that was. The most perfect time to live in North America
    as a teenager.
    What a lot of people didn't understand at the time was that the title of the album
    ("Songs from the Big Chair") was themed as if the singer was sitting in a psychiatrists
    chair and the songs on the album were his confession therapy to the psychiatrist.
    The "Big Chair" = Psychiatry patient's chair.

    They're not talking about marriage when they say "married, with a lack of vision". It's "indecision married with a lack of vision" meaning that the indecision is coupled with a lack of vision.

    Quincy Jones said that MJ "stole" the Everybody Wants To Rule The World bass line and used it in The Way You Make Me Feel which was released 2 years after if I'm not mistaken. Apparently TFF gave permission for that :) great reaction guys!

    • @Retrospective.
      @Retrospective. 2 года назад +9

      absolutely correct :) and TFF stole this bassline from Simple Minds "Waterfront". What goes around comes around.

      @Music-tg5is 2 года назад +18

      @@Retrospective. I've heard that said before. Personally, I don't hear it myself (I'm a musician). The only real similarity between TFF and Simple Minds' track is that they both use a generic swing groove for the bass, which is hardly unique. However, the musical and rhythmic similarities between the bass grooves of TFF and MJ are undeniable.

    To keep it simple....one of the most beautifully composed songs of all time. Any race or gender can fall in love with this piece of music mastery immediately.

    "The Working Hour", "Woman In Chains" "Shout" are great ones. "Advice For The Young At Heart" is a smooth and easy song, so is "Goodnight Song"... All of these are Tears For Fears songs that I really like.

    There's a live version of them doing this in a small studio recently as old guys! Still sound the same!. The writer said it's original title was ' everybody want to go to war' but that sounded too harsh. Read the lyrics with that title in mind, it makes more sense.

    sooooo many memories. An amazing song in my time. When they actually made music. Wish it was the video of them. Oh, "everybody wants to rule the world" came out in 1985 and Michael's " the way you make me feel" came out in 1987. I had all the best music ever

    Please watch the video together on your own!!! There's just something about it that we all L❤VE! It's free feeling, seeing them sing, the open landscape, the two dancers at the gas pumps.

    It was written at a time when the Cold War was ending between the US & Russia. In the 80's we definitely saw so many nations vying to be a Super Power. However, what the track is about in general is the lust for power and control -----> and the destructive consequences. Roland & Curt made it soar.

      The Austin-Healey 3000 featured in the video is eye-catching. Curt probably had a blast driving it around.
