"Imagine Stannis' terror"
"I AM trying"
Sometimes subtle is good, lol!
Willverinerage Hahahaha Bunch of cheeky bastards hahaha
- Imagine Stannis' terror!
- ... I'm tryin...
was baking a snus when i heard that. its hilarious.
"It'll be years until they are fully grown, and then there will be nowhere to hide."
Chilling line.
I love how when he says that the screen is covered by fire.
Chimaera Regilla You see that the writers are true geniuses. Everything they do is intended. They know what will happen next and once you watch the clips again from season 2 or 3 after you watched what happend in 4 and 5, it's even more impressive how smart the details in conversations were. Truely great show, just cause of that fact. Not including plot or anything else, just writing, GoT is by far the best TV show ever written.
+Dancinglings You've not read the books I take it?
Smeagle Reegle I know the book is 10 times better. Written is always superior to tv shows, because you got way more space to play with the audience etc. Reading the books will take you more than the 50 hours you take to watch 5 seasons of game of thrones. I was talking about the TV show tho in relation to other TV shows. Writing a TV show is a whole different skill than writing a book, since you got visual and audio influences that you dont have in books. Thats why I hate it when people say the books are better, when you clearly cant compare them. It's two different experiences reading a book and watching a movie/tv show. Just alone of music you got a whole different experience than you ever will have in a book, but then again you got way less time for a tv show to convey details. so some character developments or scenes might not be detailed enough compared to a book. Both have up and downsides. I know I acutally didn't directly answer your question, but by the way you phrased that question I assume you like the boks more than the tv show, so thats my 2 cents on this whole books vs show thing.
+Chimaera Regilla I hope this is foreshadowing
"You're the master of Hwisperers you're supposed to know everything"
The dialogue and banter between Varys and Tyrion is brilliant. My favorite scenes are their back-and-forths, as well as the highly hostile and sarcastic (but equally witty) conversations between Varys and Littlefinger.
"I wish we could too"
there was a mistake in this scene varys refers to jeofry as "my lord" he is suppose to say "your grace" had this been in real life jeofry would have killed varys for making that mistake
Rain "my Lord/your Grace", potAto/potahto, either way it's a respectful honorific. The vast majority of Kings, real or fictional, wouldn't be concerned about such a trivial distinction, and Varys was far too valuable at court even if Joffrey did care
FerretJohn lolollololol o god its like you have not even been watching the show did you just classifed jeofry as a vast majority of kings and did you think jeofry gives two shits about varys and his value lolololo what the hell have you been watching all this time
Rain I've been watching the series since episode 1, and read all the books, and it's Joffrey, not jeofry. By "vast majority" I mean Robert, Stannis, the Targeryans, the Tudors of England, and all the other kings in the real world. Not even Joffrey is that arrogant that he'd kill his spy-master on a whim, and Varys isn't foolish enough to give him just cause to do so. Perhaps you should pay attention to the show more
Varys: ''If you want to play... You'll have to go first.''
Tyron talks. Varys never said what he wanted.

It's not Dany, it's Aegon (whether he's the real Aegon or not remains to be seen.) Dany was just intended to be Aegon's hot queen, but then she went on her dragon rampage in Slaver's Bay.
God-Emperor of Mankind The way Primogeniture inheritance works, Viserys is second in line (until he takes a bucket of gold to the face anyway). The eldest son is first in line, then the eldest son's sons, and then the second son. Since Aegon is Rhaegar's firstborn son, that means the crown should rightfully pass to him under regular circumstances. The way I see it, Varys was playing both his "Aegon" deck and his "Viserys" deck of cards at the same time. They both required the same circumstances, disorder and chaos among the ruling families and strong backing from Essos, to take over, so he didn't really have to chose one until Drogo made the choice for him.
Katharine Gould That's how it should've been. But D&D doesn't like Aegon
winterland Varys wants what he can never have ...................................... A penis
Robin MX To be honest, i don't like him either. Books 4&5 introduced too many characters and most of the POV characters barely progressed besides some of them going from A to B. The last thing the story needed was another king. Plus Aegon makes Dany pretty much a waste of time
My favorite quote from the clip:
When I reached manhood, my father put me in charge of all the drains and cisterns in Casterly Rock. The water never flowed better. And all the shit found its way to the sea.
MIne is : Where is the god of tits and wine
alex21983
That god would be Podrick Payne. ;)
Alonzo Branson
Pimplord Podrick Payne the god of tits and wine XD
alex21983
"they worship a goddess with sixteen tits"
....."We must sail there immediately!"
-LMAO
RandomMindz teets, not tits, shan't = shall not. English...learn it ;-)
Tyrion: "Imagine Stannis' terror!"
Varys: "I am trying....
The ending to this scene is amazing. Slowly but surely all the storylines are coming together. Can't wait for the future seasons and see how everything ends.
Well we'll have to wait for the two next books before that happens
Matthias Godille
Hi Matthias, we might have to wait for the next two books and the deciding thing for the show will be up to the showrunners/HBO since they will either catch up to or forge ahead of the books if another isn't released in the next year or so.
This aged poorly
@@JH4RPlp Yes it did.
thought this was a shitpost until i saw the date posted, rip
"Imagine Stannis' terror"
"I am trying" BEST. QUOTE. EVER
*Homer Simpson voice* "You tried your best and failed miserably. The lesson is, never try."
Fast forward three seasons and these two are ruling Mereen together. Only thing missing is Bronn.
+William McCormick ah yes. but bronn will always side with the winner. when dragons burn king's landing im sure tyrion's price will be more then enough to buy back bronn.
William McCormick and Podrick
How ironic of how they speak of Daenarys and now they serve her
Varys was already serving her. He and Illyrio were the ones who housed her in Bravoos. Varys doesn't reveal that to Tyrion because they're not that close yet during this scene.
Pentos
theflanman86 Yeah...
"We should sail there immediately" hahahahaha
+nigga851 Well, they did indeed!
It's actually a prettty cool sequence when they talked about Daenerys' dragons with the fire in the foreground.
And now they both serve Daenerys. I like how varys sort of asked Tyrion's opinion of Daenerys , coz varys knew that in the end, you either join her or die by her dragons.
***** whats the fun in joining the WW as nothing but corpse
i like how this this scene sets up Tyrion and Vary's season 5 storyline
"we should sail there immediately!"
Cracks me up.
I love this scene, one of the few "casual" scenes where some of the best characters get to just chill and talk without any big plot developments to go through
"Why are all the gods such vicious cunts?" one of the best characters period
Honestly Varys and Tyrion were SO good in this season
[2:35... TYRION JUST SPOILED SEASON 5!!!!]
Now we know that Tyrion and Varys are now sailing to the Summer Isles; which is great because Tyrion could sure use the vacation after being imprisoned, being tried for his life, and killing his father!
Dorian Saldana And the lord of tits and wine turns out to be Daenerys
Interesting little factoid: Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage are actually in reverse age order from the characters they play. Of the three actors, Lena is the youngest and Peter the eldest, but Cersei is the older twin and Tyrion the youngest sibling.
Thanks for reading. Valar dohaeris.
That is actually pretty interesting, thanks for sharing.
And you are welcome. What is read may never die!
PoisonTester Upvote for you, my friend. Cheers!
PoisonTester I see what you did there.
PoisonTester fun fact, Peter and Lena cant watch each other in the eyes on set because every time they do, they burst laughing, also they had trouble shooting Joffreys wedding scene because every time Joffrey said to Tyrion hurry up this pie is dry, Peter and Lena would laugh their ass off
"one game at a time, my friend", in my head is followed by, "let's not think ahead to season 5 just yet"
Both amazing actors. Cannot help but love the sarcasm of Varys. They chose spot on actors for the characters from the books.
I like how they showed the fire burning while Varys talked about the dragons.
Public Service Announcement: The best place to avoid reading comments is on game of thrones clips. *spoilers below*
I tend only to look at the most liked comments, nobody likes spoilers
Tyrion and Varys have such an awesome exchange in Book 2 when Varys discovers Shae for the first time and Tyrion finds them waiting for him.
I like the one later when they talk about power. "Power resides where people _believe_ it resides," - Varys. I can't remember if that line was ever said in the show...
When they are talking about the Septon, the King, the Rich Man, and the guy with the sword? I'm only on Book 2, page 800 so I might not have read up to there yet!
***** Yeah, that's the scene. I'm on page 400 right now, damnit. Trying to get to books 4 and 5 so I can finally be a GoT guru.
LOL same! I wanna be the guy who knows everything before it happens! XD Anyways, good reading to you, man!
***** I'm hoping there's another Red Wedding so I can be all cocky before it happens! May your summers be long!
"Imagine Stannis's terror"
"I am trying"
I love these two, I hope to see them together in season 5.
This is great foreshadowing for Tyrion meeting Daenarys.
Joffrey: "They say Stannis never smiles. I'll give him a red smile -- from ear to ear.
Tyrion: "Imagine Stannis' TERROR!"
Varys: "I AM trying."
+SynerG4ce Apparently he even chuckled when Melisandre said he do need Davos. Joffrey is ill informed.
+SynerG4ce I laughed so hard at that part.
+Taylor Huston (Soundkiller) That was maybe my favorite funny moment in Game of Thrones. In part because I love Tyrion & Varys' relationship and scenes.
I really love Varys and Tyrion ! They're an amazing duo! I also loved how Varys did tell Tyrion what he wanted but in an very subtle way. As he told Ned Stark at the first season, he wants to protect the Seven Kingdoms. Of all the potential rulers out there (at least the ones Varys is aware of), Dany is his top candidate. Hence, why he randomly tells Tyrion about Dany and her dragons at the end of the scene. It's Varys' own way of learning where Tyrion stands and whether he can trust Tyrion with his true intentions (abandoning the Lannisters once Dany comes into a better position of power). It's weird re-watching these scenes. You realize through scenes like this just how honest, consistent, and very careful Varys had been from the start.
i would love to see jofrey fighting stanis and giving him the red smile
LOL Joffrey woulb pee himself
"If my uncle Stannis" lol silly boy
Actually he's one of the people who believe the rumors about Cersei and her brother. He confronts her with it in the third season.
I didn't imagine that the scared boy from Batman will become king in Game of Thrones
+Ambar but he doesnt believe he's a bastard
Nikki Beray I guess after watching all seasons again I have to say you might be right. He believes that King Robert had a lot of bastards which is why he let the gold cloaks kill them. And he actually confronts Cersei with the rumors about Jaime and her in the 2nd season but doesn't say that he believes them. Also he keeps calling Stannis his uncle after that. I'm sure he thought about himself being a bastard of King Robert though.
he did show affection for Robert when he was on his deathbed. he might just be too arrogant to accept that he is a bastard. he thinks and speaks so highly of Robert always referring to him as MY father, THE KING. hence why he must feel more comfortable to associate himself as the son of the man he thought of as a hero. he's not dumb so i think he does believe the rumors but speculates that his siblings, myrcella and tommen were the fruit of cersei and jamie's affair.
"One game at a time my friend"
Kinda makes you step back and remember how much shit Tyrion and Varys is trying to shovel off of Kings Landing.
0:37 Anyone else thought of the jokers "Let's put a smile on that face" ? xD
"And then there will be nowhere to hide…"
My favorite line in the whole fucking show
"If we're going to play..." I don't know who Varys thinks he's kidding - Varys never stops playing the game; just like Tywin and Little Finger. I love how they always showed Tywin writing edicts, knowing that people are going to die when the message is delivered.
You all can't appreciate this, but my video signal crapped out after this line:
- "I wish we could converse like two honest, intelligent men."
- "I wish we could too."
So from my end it was like "Whelp! That was that!"
just rewind back a little bit, had it too, but then worked well
"...and then there will be nowhere to hide" as the flames in the foreground grow larger. Nice touch!
I love Tryrion and Varys. They always have the best conversations. Tyrion and Bronn had the funniest.
'We should sail there immediately'
This scene captures everything about Game of Thrones up this point. Such a great scene.
Roll credits.
i love when tyrion asks "what do you want?" that was something i was wondering since the show started
i love tyrion and varys
-they say stanis never smiles, i give him a smile, a red smile ear to ear-I just realized joffrey made the joker
It's indicative of how sly Varys is, that he managed to avoid answering the question
I love at the end when Varys talks about the dragons and says there will be nowhere left to hide, we observe the conversation through a fire. Clever use of juxtaposition on the director of photography's part.
Without spoiling the books, he is the only one who truly cares about the realm. In the show he encouraged Ned Stark to put aside his honour and end the blood shed. He helped Tyrion however he could rather than have Stannis take the throne, not wanting a man in service of black magic to rule the seven kingdoms.
He doesn't want to be king, he doesn't want power. He just wants to help those whom he believes deserves the power and let peace reign supreme.
"I am trying" cracks me up every time.
"In the summer isles, they worship a fertility goddess with sixteen teats."
"We should sail there immediately!"
"I'll give him a red smile...from ear to ear."
I like how awkward/amused Varys and Tyrion look.
Good lord the sarcasm meter went up the roof in that first minute.
I just love the inflection in Peter's voice when he says "tits and wine". cracks me up every time.
Season 2 episode 8 Tyrion: "Where is the God of tits and wine?"
Season 3 episode 8 Tyrion: "I am the god of tits and wine. I shall build a shrine at the next brothel I visit."
"il give him a red smile from ear to ear" the game of thrones joker
"And then there will be nowhere to hide"
Makes you think of the kinds of terror a dragon can unleash.
varys letting Tyrion know in season 2 about the Dany... in season 5 that's who they're going to join. He was waiting for the right time all along
I love their conversations!
0:28 Sometimes i like to come back and watch him say this, and just try and imagine if joffrey was actually a brave and decent ruler. I mean all things aside, it did take like.. at least.. some percentage of bravery to say that.
The funny thing is he, in addition to Varys, was the only other person who took Dany seriously, he even yells at Tywin for not keeping him informed better about her and her dragons, at one point, he says something to the effect of, "I think someone having three dragons is a serious issue!"
He does a fantastic job at playing Varys.
Varys and Tyrion my two favorite guys in Game of Thrones. They know how power works and how to deal with those trying to stab them in the back. They also know the value of showing one face in public then doing what they feel is right in private.
"Beloved nephew."
Can't wait to see these two in season 6
+Dwide Schrude Doesn't really happen in the books, but they were so good together TV had to make it happen.
they were kinda dissapointing in season 6 though... They're interaction lacked the dynamic it had in season 2 in my opinion
***** nah, they just didn't have enough scenes.
every scene in GOT is important,it's the details that make this series awesome
these two have by far the most entertaining conversations in the series
stannis is a hardman he will never break or bend, he will rule
Those 3 were kind of really realy huge, much bigger than the current ones will ever grow up to be.
I just love that line, "Why are all the gods such vicious cunts!?" xD Priceless.
I like the way Tyrion reacts to being told of the dragons. That look just says it all; "Fuck! The last thing we needed!"
And Lord Varys still got away without telling Tyrion what he wanted.
"Imagine Stannises terror." "I am trying..."
Haha so EPIC these two!
He indeed does. Varys is an intriguing character I don't know if you've read the books and in prevention I m not going to reveal nothing. But there are several instances in which Varys shows fondness for Tyrion
Many people died for her already. She needs to "remember who she is!"
I just love Varys and Tyrion's scenes. Both are genius
Tyrion and Varys, I love these too
I love it when Varys says" even if what they say is true" in a Cersei like dismissive tone "and when they are fully grown then there will be nowhere to hide" in an contrary fearful tone
God do I love this show
I get the feeling that Varys genuinely likes Tyrion. Not only is he worthy of respect for his skill at the Game and his enjoyment of it, as well as his ability to see the big picture and think f the greater good, he also treats Varys with more respect that anyone else at court- everyone else finds him USEFUL, but no-one LIKES him. But if there's one person who isn't going to look down on a eunuch, it's a dwarf.
Two of the smartest men in Westeros right here.
Still no match for the mighty Tywin
The L-A-J Gamer HD Really? Have you seen Game of Thrones?
Evøke Have you? Tywin is the undisputed most cunning and intelligent man in Westeros, until his death of course.
The L-A-J Gamer HD dead on his toilet
Varys:"I wish we could too."
I laugh at that one a lot.
They do live up to a thousand years. :]
Did anyone else notice that Varys mistakenly said “my lord” to Joffrey?
no shit sherlock
Best episode so far.
"Why are all the gods such vicious cunts?" - I can relate to that.
I can live with that, dude.
Tyrion: Imagine Stannis' terror...
Varys: I am trying.
This is pure gold.
Ned Stark was not stupid, he was very aware that his life was at risk in King's Landing, and he even knew that there were certain routes he could take to protect himself (ie illegitimately seize power), but he refused to do those things on principle. His death was more of a shock to viewers than it was to him. Just because he stood on principle and it cost him his life, does not make him stupid.
When they mention the dragons...I like how fire comes into the frame after Varys says the line. When Dany invades Westeros and its a battle...when it pushes to kings Landing, I wonder if Jaime is going to be forced to defend the Kingsguard (the legacy of it) while facing a possible clash with Ser Barristan Selmy...
A consequence of playing the role so well.
its only now I realise those little birds were the children theon killed..
This scene is funny. Tyrion never plays the Game of Thrones, Varys just pretends he does so he can manipulate him, which works out very well for him.
Tyrion must be the choose on from the God of light!!
great view of the Red Keep at 2:36 never noticed it before
[King Joffrey shows his false bravado]
Tyrion: "Imagine Stannis' terror!"
Varys: "I *am* trying."
LOL
That could have been amusing, the Arrogant Bastard Boy King facing off the Dead Serious Stannis, priceless.
The droll voice of Varys got me, you could imagine Tyrion hoping Joffrey would fight Stannis (fight is the wrong word, because Stannis would slaughter him).
And Varys still got away without telling Tyrion what he actually wants.
I loved this whole scene
The dragon discussion at the end was the best scene segue in the series imo.
"One game at a time, my friend."
Joffery "They say Stannis never smiles. I'll give him a RED smile, ear to ear
Whoa look out, we've got a badass here!
