For someone who grew up in Kalihi (Gulick Avenue), went to Kenny's Coffee House, Kenny's Burgerhouse, Kam Bowl, Jolly Roger's, etc. often. Such great memories! Oh, and Violet's Grill on Dillingham. AND, we'd always go to Columbia Inn and Flamingo Chuckwagon on Kapi'olani. They don't have restaurants like these anymore.
In that same shopping center, the restaurant Teishoku sells amazing butter fish for a reasonable price! I'm definitely going to have to check out Kam Bowl and Honu Bakery next time I go :)
Always great to see OG diners. Aiea Bowl also has oxtail soup. My mom and uncle had theirs there. Everything looked so ono. And a bakery nearby too. Ah!
That oxtail soup looked bomb! We should’ve went there instead of the other “bowl” restautuant! Yes, Felix…Amanda is 100% correct. red a velvet is chocolate but it has a ton of red food coloring to alter the color! But I totally agree with you about white chocolate not being “true” chocolate! Good job on the video!
I think you can’t go wrong with either oxtail bowl restaurants! And so glad someone else agrees that red velvet is chocolate, I’m so confused by red velvet now😱 mahalo Teresa🤙🏻
Growing up in Kalihi during the 70’s, Kennyʻs Restaurant, Kennyʻs Deli, Kennyʻs Drive Inn and Kam Bowl Coffee Shop was always my go to places to eat during high school LOL. Who remembers Jolly Rogers LOL?!? Now itʻs only Kam Bowl in the Kamehameha Shopping Center in Kalihi for oxtail soup and Chinese chicken salad….
Love watching all of your foodie adventures and reviews! The Alley Restaurant at Aiea Bowl has a one of the best oxtail soup if you guys haven’t tried theirs yet! They were featured on Guy Fieri’s show too. The Alley also have really good local style food and a killer bakery that is to die for! Would love to see you guys do a video eating there!!
Yes, so sad that the long time diners are going away. Most recently Like Like Drive Inn. The one I miss the most is Wisteria. We were so sad when it was sold. We loved their food, especially the shrimp tempura! They gave soooo much and soooo good! Enjoy watching you guys all the time!
This is another good one for my list. Chicken salad, yes please. You both look happy back on the foodies road again. A little break is mandatory. Thanks Amanda&Felix😘😘
Used to go to that Kenny's with my grandma all the time as a kid; Saturday nights before UH football. Also got banned from the Fun Factory there when was a bit older lol
Man, Kam shopping center is my old stomping grounds. I boarded at Kamehameha from middle to high school! You guys should try that Korean restaurant there 😋 Mops! That oxtail soup though and burger looked so appetizing!! I’ve been to Honu Bakery, love the pastries there! As always, loved the video 😄👍
Love old school diners. I agree with Felix Like Like was a fave, my Aunt lived close by and we stayed at Pagoda when we visited. My other favorite that closed was Wailana. Ono looking grinds. While I would have enjoyed the Ox Tail soup and the Burger ( without the veggies), the star was the Chicken Katsu and Mahi plate. I would have chomped that plate. I like home made Ox Tail, I know some people who make fantastic soup. I liked Kennys also. Mahalo and Aloha.
You have to try oxtail saimin, extra ginger mixedwith their homemade chili pepper water and a splash of shoyu, at Tanaka saimin on Nimitz Hwy. Best of them all!
Speedy s Market was my favorite along with Aiea Bowl Hondas & my GOAT Sekiyas! From your musubi episode I’m now marinading my SPAM in my char siu sauce then it’s GRILLED! Love all these videos!
Have you tried rocky's in Waipahu ?. It's a old school diner/coffee house ,affordable and the banana pancakes are really good. . And yes I agree we got to support our old school coffee houses.

Hello 👋 new to your channel. Our family visited a while ago and the food was not that great. Did they close and reopen? Because I think we might be willing to give it a try. Oooh! I used to eat out at Kam Bowl back when I was living at KPT a few years back. But I didnʻt know any of that back story so thanks for sharing. But Iʻve never had Ox Tail Soup before, amazingly. Iʻm not really a hot soup person unless it is cold out (which it never is here), or Iʻm in Japan/Korea/China and having Ramen/Udon/Mian in a good restaurant. :-) And nice B&B shout out! :-) I just ate there last week with some family from Molokai. Felix is a man after my own heart. Gimme that old school cheesburger and crispy fries. Then hit me with that plate lunch of mahi and katsu chicken. Mahi Mahi is so way better fresh and tasty and succulent in Hawaii. Why I don't know but its always supa' fresh and ono. And what can be said about mac salad. Mac salad is almost like religion in Hawaii and should compliment the other dishes. If its bland and boring people forget you. I no can eat the sweet stuff and yeah, Amanda no eat the packet! The regular rice looks too mushy for my liking as well. I remember going there when it was Kennys. If they also own Kapiolani Coffee Shop too, I'll vouch for their bomb Oxtail Soup, albeit a bit pricey.
Love y'all and mahalo!
Mahalo Robert Leslie🤙🏻 the food was ono and can’t go wrong at old school diner🤤
What was the prices like in the bakery..they need more naughty treats like double chocolate muffins thats gooey and chewy!
Prices there weren't too bad! But yes, we agree with the ooey gooey requirement! 👍
