It's not like people don't still play like this, they do! the market expanded, not there are other tools. Nobody complained when les Paul multi tracked live... yu live in the past, and seem to not know where to look for Music anymore. Turn off your car radio, and Spotify, and do some work. We musicians still do and laugh at your kind of complaining ignorance of what is. You are both just whining.

it's refreshing to see this kinda attitude instead of the usual "MUSIC THESE DAYS JUST DON'T COMPARE" blah blah nonsense you see in the comments on music from previous decades. I'm only 30 and I love this stuff and Jerry Reed, but I listen to more genres than I can keep track of, from so many points in time. Music now is often just as good as music then, too. There's just far more of it so you often have to dig for what you'll like.

    1. This song is most associated with Elvis, but Jerry Reed wrote it.
    2. People forget what a spectacular guitarist Glen Campbell was, honing his chops in the 60s as part of LA's famed Wrecking Crew of stellar studio musicians.
    3. Having said that, Jerry Reed was no slouch on the 6-string, either. His acting work, esp. In Burt Reynolds movies, sort of eclipsed his playing. So thanks for this great post!

I'm even older. My high school days were the mid-fifties when a crossroad of several music genres all crossed in about 1955. Country crossover with Lefty Frizzel, Big Bopper, Ferlin Husky and many others. WW11 stuff was still around like the big bands, andrew sisters, mcqjuire sisters, and out of rythym & blues, howled Elvis, the king. Oh, I forgot to mention the original rock & roll band. Bill Haley and the Comets. Those were the days, my friends. Although the 70's brought a new revival of folk and rock that was probably just as good.

Sublime. From here in the UK, I've long admired Glen's music and guitar playing. But I only knew Jerry Reed as Snowman in Smokey & the Bandit. Then a few years back I learned he was a C&W singer. But only a few weeks ago I heard his guitar work! Holy Moly, he must have been up with the very best. RIP Glen and Jerry

If you like Jerry as Snowman check out another movie he's in with Robin Williams and Walter Matthau. It's from the '80's and called Survivors. Reed plays a great role. Imagine Snowman as a hitman. Legendary.

I have to smile when I see some people posting comments about auto-tune and such. First, there weren't no such thing back then and second, they didn't need it! This was a world previous to recording trickery, you know, when talent reigned supreme.

It's amazing how many people didn't know how good these two were. In the early 70's I had an album by Chet and Jerry. I still remember the album cover, an old car, and Jerry is changing a flat tire and Chet is sitting on a fender playin guitar. Good stuff.
