Jerry Reed was never a celebrity. He was just an extremely talented humble country guy. One of my favorite stories about Jerry is when Elvis wanted to cover Guitar Man no one else could get the guitar right so they were trying to call Jerry down to the studio to play the part. No one could find him all day cause he was fishing.
And Col Parker tried to get Jerry to sign away half his rights to the song and Reed was willing to walk out of the studio over it. No one in Nashville had stood up to Elvis and Parker before that.
I get what you mean, he's a real gem. In my heart he's so much more than a celebrity. He brought Jerry to Smokey and without him it would just not have been the legend film that it is. He's my unsung hero.
For those 167 thumbs down you wouldn't recognize talent if smacked you across your faces, heaven's a better place now they have Jerry snowman reed r.i.p.
My grandpa had Jerry on 8 track tape and every Sunday he’d drive us out to his farm, and we loved these tunes as we drove down the road. Amos Moses, anyone? My next load of concrete is for Mr. Reed! Thank you for posting this video.
No fancy gimmicks, no pyrotechnics, no smoke machines, no dancers, no outrageous costumes. Just good _’ol_ fashioned music and very talented musicians enjoying themselves and sounding great.
My husbands papa played in a band with JR in Sc but when he wanted to go and try to make it bag papa had to stay home as times were hard and he had a large family to support. JR is awesome
I was 8 years old first time I heard this song. At the movie theatere... "Smokey and the Bandit" I knew then, 44 years ago that I was gonna be a truck driver just like my daddy. And Im sitting in my sleeper cab today typing this comment. So you could say this song and that movie had a profound effect on my life.
Entertainment like this in a group of musicians getting together with a crowd just having a good time it don’t exist any longer Country singers like this or a thing of the past unfortunately
For every version I've seen of Jerry Reed performing this song, he and the entire band always looks so danged happy! There is no way to watch this and not feel happy!!!!!! Love it!!!!!!

"it was only 30 minutes 40 years ago, but when i see him i have a great memory, he also upgraded our tickets to front row center and told the crowd of about 15,000 that we are his private audience that keeps him right. He signed my hat, had it for years lost in a divorce move.

Jerry Reed was an outstanding guitar player. He wrote Guitar Man and Elvis Presley liked it so much he recorded it. When his band couldn't get the feeling right he said " That's it! Get me Jerry Reed on the phone, NOW! Then he asked Jerry to come down and help out with the guitar part and Jerry did. Wow! A guest guitarist for Elvis Presley on a song that he wrote! How many people can say that? Incredible!!
Col Parker demanded the find Reed to play on that song. It took quite a while. He was out fishing on the Cumberland River. He came to the studio in his fishing clothes, Elvis had always demanded the players dress up in the studio, but not Jerry. He borrowed a guitar, tuned it how he wanted it and laid down the track like Elvis wanted. Col Parker also tried to get Jerry to give him 75% of the publishing rights to the song, apparentlythat was a standard practice of his if you wanted Elvis to record your song. Jerry refused. Told him, it's MY song, I keep the publishing. Use it or don't. Elvis loved the song so Jerry kept the publishing rights and it became a number one hit for Elvis. It's said this was the only time Col Parker didn't get the rights to a song he wanted. For those who don't know, Col Tom Parker was Elvis' manager. He ruled with an iron fist.
I'm proud to say that Snowman and ol' Bandit still run through our house every so often. We have a 14 year old son who loves to watch Smokey and the Bandit when his friends are over. They absolutely love it.
I always admired the awesomeness of this man. The amazing talent, the " old school " humble manurism. I always wanted to be as cool as Jerry Reed. Never came close.

My wife and i met Jerry early summer of 01.. my wife was 8 months pregnant with my daughter.. Jerry was older and had just finished his show and completely blew everyone away with his unbelievable talent. He was very humble and kind. I didn’t know what to say besides “thank you and i enjoyed the show”.. what do you say to an icon?!?! He smiled, shook my hand, cordially greeted my wife, then reached out and touched her belly and said “take good care of this youngan.. it will be special” .. several years later, i explained to my daughter who Jerry Reed was during a scooby doo episode. There was and only ever be one like Jerry Reed
Thank you very much, Scott, for sharing your wonderful story! It's another reason why I'm so glad that my old VHS tape held up over all these years and so many people are enjoying it.
Tunes like this don't exist anymore. Entertainers like Jerry Reed who enjoyed playing music the way it should, from the heart, have truly disappeared. RIP Snowman and Bandit.
You know, the Snowman here made me want to drive a Kenworth. Trouble is, here in the UK, that thing would block a lot of the roads! Such a talented guy was Mr Reed. Thanks for sharing!

I saw the black Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit 2 at the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum when I was 54 years old. Seeing that car was like seeing a celebrity. (Even though it was from SB2.)
I was very fortunate to actually see up-close-and-personal the truck that was in Smokey and the Bandit. Would have made me really happy if Jerry Reed had been sitting in that truck! I really love to hear him sing
Jerry R. Hubbard. Had a very beautiful wife and family. Listen to his wife Priscella Mitchel sing, Hello Mr. Peters with Roy Drusky here on Y/T. Great stuff. Mr. Hubbard was a world class guitar picking man.
This is a JAM! Go, cuz! I can hear the audience clapping along as they sip their Lone Stars. The background singers remind me of Mickey Gilley's....high-pitched and studio-ready. The pickin' here, the rhythm section, everything .Perfect!
Besides being great song from an epic film, there is some serious musicianship going on here. No autotune or canned backing tracks, just a collection of first rate musicians that are tighter than a drum.

This is the suck-ass part about growing old: Looking around and noticing all the truly great people who are no longer there with ya. I played a T-60 for a couple of years. In its day it was one of the best value for money guitar around. Built like a tank. Fantastic neck profile . Versatile sound All shades of fat to thin. But it was a heavy bit of wood! I still have it. Not worth selling.
when i was 13 i saw this movie and loved burt and jerry but most of all that car! i only had enough for the cb radio 😢 great memories of a different time!
Im 53. In England. Even there we all grew up with the Bandit movies, Cannon Ball and Any Which Way You Can... all the kids wanted to be them and live this Amerian life... I had no clue at all that this guy was an entertainer until today... Mind blown!
God, I miss the way America USED to be. This song makes me wanna bootleg some Coors or but a Trans Am. He was great in Bat 21, too. Miss that guy...the best of us.
R.I.P. "Snowman" The Alabama Wild Man! Jerry came to germany when i was stationed there in '82 & brought his Daughter! Thanks for a great show, & you're Support of the troops! thanks for All you're great music! first song i ever heard of his was When you're Hot you're Hot, & Son he was Always Hot!
I think a lot of people in the general public, overlook Jerry Reed's mastery of the guitar. And think this has a lot to do with how country performers portrayed themselves...Down home, Aww shucks, Porch sittin....This leads people to think, "Oh, he's just goofing off!", yet, his progressions are spectacular and they should be, considering he's coming from the Mother Mabelle Carter school of picking. That is the same chord progressions that metal players use. Absolutely incredible player making it look easy.
Incredible talent. Able to “rap” where you understand every word, while playing an instrument at a world class level, everything original, clever and positive!
I'm worried that a lot of the younger generation don't even know that Jerry Reed was a musician. Where are we failing? We can't let anyone miss out on such a great talent.
I miss the 70s an 80s what a Era to grow up in.

That's a big 10 4
In ‘73, when I was a young USAF airman we’d make Coors beer runs to Uvalde, TX, from San Antonio as it was not available in SATX. Good times.
Jerry Reed was extremely talented, brilliant he has written songs for Elvis Presley & lots of other country singers!!
Man this is so good, it brings a tear to my 61 year old eye. Damn this is some music and played by outstanding musicians getting the groove on.
That is the most Peavey T-60's I have ever seen on one stage! ...what a killer guitar
That's like 60 pounds of Peavey right there!
@@justinkelly1981 hahah surprised they didn't fall through the stage...great guitar though
A unique sound when you reverse those humbuckers! You either love it or hate it
I played a T-60 for a couple of years. In its day it was one of the best value for money guitar around. Built like a tank. Fantastic neck profile . Versatile sound All shades of fat to thin. But it was a heavy bit of wood! I still have it. Not worth selling.
Peavey -- built for working magicians!
.
(And 'yes', musicians are magicians in my book)
when i was 13 i saw this movie and loved burt and jerry but most of all that car! i only had enough for the cb radio 😢 great memories of a different time!
Kids, this is what you call talent, Legendary Talent!
Youngsters, this is what swagger looks like. Jerry had an abundance of it. 🤩
Love the Bell Bottom Jeans he was wearing. Reminds me of the style back in my high school days!
USS Niagara Falls (AFS-3) - we used this as our breakaway song during our '82 Westpac.
One of the greatest guitarists in American music.. God Bless
Im 53. In England. Even there we all grew up with the Bandit movies, Cannon Ball and Any Which Way You Can... all the kids wanted to be them and live this Amerian life... I had no clue at all that this guy was an entertainer until today... Mind blown!
I was on a plane in the mid 70's with Jerry Reed. For the entire flight he played for us to pass the time
As a long-time Smokey and the Bandir fan, this is pretty awesome … 👍
he's having such a great time. love watching as an adult what I heard growing up.
He was an amazing man and a fantastic guitar player. He will be missed
God, I miss the way America USED to be. This song makes me wanna bootleg some Coors or but a Trans Am. He was great in Bat 21, too. Miss that guy...the best of us.
sadly the closest thing we have now to a religious monoculture is the arab world. It's a shame.
I miss this 2
@Greg Walker I hope and pray that you're wrong.
America used to be? ok boomer.
@Greg Walker whatever dude.
Been driving truck for 30 plus years song still gives me goose bumps Jerry was great
Dave, thanks for sharing. Sharing stories like this will help keep entertainers who cared about regular joes legends alive. God bless the USA.
The 70's. Ahhh! Great singer. Great Movie. Trucker's daughter here.
Your Daddy represents the great blue collar folk of the US. Cheers friend.
"Now don't lose yo head, son. We still got a lot of boogie'n to do!"
RIP Mr. Reed
Same reason Doug Henning is singing back up
Who is still listening to a masterpiece 🎶❤
Greetings from Australia, I'm 42yo, and I absolutely love this clip. Yes, I'm still listening.
Me😁❤️🌹🌹🌹
Amazing experience to watch such a kick-ass live show almost 40 years ago
Music will never be the same like it was back then.
Nothing will be the same ever!
One of the most under appreciated awesome songs of all time.
God Bless Jerry Reed. So many good memories. Anyone got a time machine?
🌴🐈🐈🐈🌴🏴☠️
I'm worried that a lot of the younger generation don't even know that Jerry Reed was a musician. Where are we failing? We can't let anyone miss out on such a great talent.
I don’t know what you consider young but this 18 year old loves old music
@@jacobweems3316same man, I'm only 19 and I live for this kinda stuff. Absolutely amazing
A terrifically tight trio of Peavey T-60s!
