Serious Sam 3: BFE Playthrough (12) The Guardian of Time - All secrets, Serious difficulty

- During the course of Sam's drive to the Timelock located at Hatshepsut's temple, untimely circumstances cause the vehicle to break down before reaching his destination. With no other option, Sam must make the remainder of the journey on foot through the nearby canyon leading to Deir el-Bahari. It all comes down to this. All that stands between Sam and Timelock are hundreds upon hundreds of Mental's minions.
This level is absolute chaos. Around every corner is a new wave of enemies ready to pounce, and tear you limb from limb. I think of all Serious Sam games, Serious Sam 3 has the highest amount of enemies in the final level when compared to the other final levels. Correct me if I'm wrong. Nevertheless, the chaotic nature of this level is in good fun. I don't think I've ever had as much enjoyment in a first-person-shooter's final level than this one. It gets nerve racking when you get to the end after doing this level in a single segment, but the payoff at the end is always worth it. Thank you Croteam for this magnificent game, in all that chaff that plagues modern games, there are still some developers who know why we play video games.
Addendum: Now that I've finished the game, I'm not really sure what I'll do, or want to do next.. Suggestions perhaps?
Four secrets in the segment:
1: 5:20 - 5:30 After clearing away most of the rocketeers on the first part of the level, you'll come across two paths, instead of going left onto the next wave of enemies, go straight ahead and you'll eventually come upon a dead end with some assault rifle ammunition and health nearby. If you look above you at the wall, you'll see some ammo on top of a crate, which is resting on a part of the wall which is jutting out. Shoot a rocket nearby the crate to blow it up, and the secret devastator shells resting on top of it will fall to the ground.
2: 20:37 - 20:52 In the large open area with the ruins, on the left part of the clearing, there is a large rock which forms a natural arch. On the side of the rocky arch (the side which is closest to the nearby dunes), there are some secret electricity cells.
3 22:52 - 22:59 Still in the large open area, near the center of the clearing is a small "shrine" which has a rocket crate, armor, and health inside it. Go to the very back where the health is lying on the crate. Look above you at the ceiling, and you'll see a crate blocking the hole in the ceiling, shoot the crate and some secret sniper rifle ammunition will drop down. Make sure your sniper rifle ammunition isn't full when trying to get this secret, if you try to get this secret with your ammunition full, it won't count as a secret until it refills some of your ammo. Shoot a bullet or two if you had full ammunition like I did beforehand.
4: 42:30 - 42:36 After fighting the Sirian Werebulls, up near the top of the hill with the two rock arches, there is a rocket crate, armor, health, and some other stuff nearby. There is crate which has some shotgun shells on top of it. Destroy that crate, and you'll see a small hole in the ground the crate was previously hiding from view. Inside that hole you'll find some secret Devastator shells.

Yeah this level is the drizzling shits and I can clear the entire game on Serious with minimal issues.
@@davitsk1 100% agree, it needed more "horde-bowling-alleys" like in Guardian of Time. TFE and TSE had many of them throughout the campaign.
Yet it was easy for me.
The humourous start really belies how epic this level is. It's prolly my favourite Serious Sam gauntlet.

This level is unbelievably amazing. The difficulty starts very miniscule and SLOWLY becomes one of the HARDEST levels I've ever played in a fps. Seriously, fucking bravo.

An hour if you're as good as this guy at the game. Pretty sure it took me well over an hour.

BFE was my first introduction to the Serious Sam series and this level... well, at some point my brain just assumed "okay... since these waves really -SEEM- infinite, I'll just focus on getting through and killing only what's in my way" but I was wrong... By sprinting through all of the waves, I was triggering even more enemies and making the game EVEN HARDER on myself XD
This is probably the hardest game I've ever played
Waiting for Serious Sam 5. I hope they give longer playable game for old style serious sam like in first encounter, second encounter. I saw some side missions in siberian mayhem but it was very short and all of them was only 1 area. I want a new old style what is at least 1-2 hours long with side missions while the main story is new style in serious sam 5. Is anybody else thinks it is a good idea?

Interesting fact:
The whole plot of Serious sam starts froms SS4, next is Serious sam Before first encounter (BFE), and here Serious sam the first encounter and second encounter are starting to be. SS2 is not canon
I not fully understand but he jumps in the portal at BFE and the Future Sam appears in SS4.

I just beat this area, it felt like an eternity. All the falling back and counterattacking. I must have fired about 10,000 rockets
Then once your done it hits you with a massive boss

awesome! didnt know the old school achievement was even possible to do. did you reassign the keys for reloading and aiming so you dont accidently hit them? could happen very fast if you dont do this^^

Omg I was going back and forth for the for a hour and a half.
Yes, I did a trial run for each of these videos to get the secret locations memorized, and I also for a bit of practice on the level itself too. I just cut my trial run early so that I got the two achievements on this video instead.

Most of the Technopolips, Biomechanoids and Khnums only spawn as part of the final boss battle. Most notable with the technopolips of which only 2 spawn in the level proper (If I remember correctly)

@@jinjaninja2604 Fortunately for the final battle itself they don't shoot their MGs. Only rockets.

Hi! I was playing SS 3 BFE myself on serious difficulty (but with a lot of saves :) and used your video to find secrets which I cannot find using the text description. It must be said that you are really good here :)
But I just wanted to ask - it seems that you don't use the reload weapon key at all, you prefer to fire remaining bullets instead, why?
Dmitriy Kanareykin there is achievement where you have to pass campaign without manually reloading, sprint and aiming.
My urge to sprint and my OCD with keeping all my weapons reloaded at all times would never let me go for the Old School achievement.

The thing is with this level is that it's not actually difficult. Seriously. It's quite easy BUT the death of your progress will be fatigue, complacency and boredom because of the running length of the mission.
I made these video so long ago that sometimes I'm tempted to do the entire thing all over again in Fusion but without the old school conditions deliberately holding me back. And also because these are locked at 30 FPS because that was the RUclips limit back then and it looks really gross these days.
I wonder if I would be about the same, or improved. I see plenty of room for improvement looking at it all now, and I definitely could have been a lot more aggressive than I was here.
Who knows though. It has been a long time since I've played Sam, and I wasn't exactly a great player either.
No, I didn't change the keys at all. Actually you just get used to it after a while, in fact, even if I was to play again, I'd probably still be walking instead of sprinting. It started feeling natural. Eh, I'm not the speed running type, let alone good enough to know the best routes. And Mental difficulty is actually sort of easier than Serious, it's the same amount of enemies on hard, with the same damage multiplier, but enemies are invisible. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Serious difficulty/all secrets has already been done a few times on RUclips though.. But maybe. Depends on how many people think it's a good idea with Serious runs already on RUclips.

There's nowhere even close to that amountTechnopolips, Major/minor Biomechanoids, or Khnums. Unless of course these are actually the amounts that continue to spawn during the final battle with Ugh-Zan, because if you try defeating enemies there, they seem infinite and seemingly won't stop spawning after you kill some. That might make sense..
I beat 1 & 2 on Serious mode and this didn't look too bad.

Во-во. Я сам удивляюсь. Я как раз на этом уровне остановился, но у меня почему-то плазменной пушки нет и снайперки, во вторых я не знал что браслетом можно сразу нескольких врагов убивать. Интересно на каком уровне сложности он проходит.

Great gameplay, can u do a mental difficulty after the serious one?
I'm not too big on Mental difficulty because it's not really that much harder than Serious difficulty. If anything, now more than ever I'm considering doing all the HD games and BFE again with Serious Sam fusion, but nothing is set in stone yet, so I can't give any guarantees if any new Sam videos are coming.

Mental difficulty is like playing on hard difficulty. But the enemies all can turn temporarily invisible. It makes it harder to keep track of everything.
qazxsw13 Thanks, once you put it like that than there is no point of playing it on Mental difficulty because it feels like the same as hard, only difference is that enemies turn invisible :/ oh and what do you mean by harder to keep track or everything?

I was thinking you can go through the entirety of this stage with just explosives (Rocket Launcher, C4, Devastator, SBC Cannon) and explosives only. Laser the only exception as it's pretty rare and there's none outside secrets.
You probably can, especially in Fusion where the Devastator is a lot better and can pierce kleers. The devastator exploded on them around the time I recorded. Anyway, I also wouldn't be surprised if you can get through it using the mutilator only except to kill Khnums or Witch-Brides. It might take a while though with any sort of limitation though, especially with an explosives-only limit, since rockets are slow-fired, and you only hold 50. Would have to make a lot of return trips.
@@qazxsw13 But other than the excessive backtracking, it's possible. In theory anyway.
@@shirohimayumikira234 Of course, anything is possible in Sam. There are people who have done the extra enemy health runs of Serious Sam in pretty much every main game, so I'm sure it's possible to do even with a weapon limitation.

how do you use the sirian mutilator?
its easy just run take all the gear you need then come back at the crate and dont let them push you back whilst spamming rockets,can use Dev vs mechs if ya want,edventaully come werebulls and khnums thats when you spamm cannonballs,after your out of cannonballs just use rockets or devastator and if your still alive minigun cuz why not.

Learn where the secrets are and more or less memorize the waves and spawns and it isn't hard, just time consuming.

Нудноватый уровень, слишком уж долгий, играл на герое - Ф9 сломал). Почти все ядра потратил на красных биомехов и потом было оч трудно с ракетницей. Последнюю волну вообще со злости напролом пробежал.
Ну а Великая Пирамида - слишком короткий. И великий собор тоже.
Хотя знаешь, уровень реально бесячий. Особенно в конце, где туева хуча клиров и столько же хнумов прет. Я почти все патроны истратил на эту поеботу.

I think that you should do all the secrets for second encounter or first, maybe both, it's hard to find one for second encounter. Just saying.

@@mirrorsystemx3851 Yeah, I kinda dwindled off making long game videos. These days I mostly upload unlisted stuff for personal use, but the main purpose of this channel is just miscellaneous clips from games that I think are funny, or amusing.
Things might change though, maybe I'll do another long one depending on the game, I haven't gotten a chance to play SS4 yet, so who knows. To be honest, sometimes I want to redo SS3 on Fusion, since I don't like how these videos look today since they were made before 60FPS on youtube.
Hardware is a big limiter, can't really play anything right now unfortunately.

this level shows how stupid ss3 got and boring enemy waves without any good game design, ss1 and even 2 were so much better.
This was my least favourite level by far.
