It's interesting to watch you produce your vibrato. It's so dramatic looking. It reminds me of when I played the saxophone and produced my vibrato by moving my lower lip which is how you produce it on the sax. When I took up flute my teacher was shocked and could tell I played a reed instrument prior. I can see you use your throat but I'm seeing a lot of movement of the headjoint. I may be mistaken but I swear that's what I'm seeing.

I've taken private lessons with him for a few months, and I have noticed that he does move his headjoint a lot while producing his vibrato. I don't do it the same way because my previous teachers have trained me to do it without or barely moving the headjoint. Personally I don't like using the throat for it either, I just use changing air. Mr. Khaner is definitely a lot more experienced than me though, so I can't vouch for the definite "best" way. Each person needs to develop their own unique tone.

@@audreyyang7952 dude that's awesome that u studied with jeff, he was my teachers teacher.
In wondering, does his tone sound "airy, fuzzy" up close? Yet clear as day further away or in a bigger space?

Great vibrato; however I was unsuccessful most of the time on my clarinet.

Am I the only one who noticed that his flute is at a downward angle instead of an upward angle? I don’t mean to throw shade but is there a reason behind that? He sounds fricking awesome too.

Very interesting, and the playing is wonderful, but the name should be "Learn about Jeffrey Khaner", beacuse that's mostly the subject. Barely anything about the flute itself.

I love that he is so passionate, but a lot of times music festivals are out of reach for someone young musicians because of financial commitment.

What you guys seem to forget here is that this gentleman’s flute is his Job and his career; Look at it like a taxi driver, who needs a good car to do his job... And if you compare that, his instrument is a one-off lifetime investment for his career. So in a fashion, the flute is cheaper than a car that needs replacing every -- year’s..... when you are a professional musician, things are seen in a different perspective. I’m sure this gentleman started out with a much more affordable instrument.

How many of you are here because you want to learn how to play the flute, like I came here for?

something about his playing has always been disappointing to me. It has no character. Very cut and dry. Listen to his version of Daphnes and Chloe and then listen to Pahud's.. night and day.
