The Savagegeese reviewers have said the opposite: they say both the power delivery and ride quality experience of the 1958 Land Cruiser are very refined, except for the engine noise when accelerating hard. They loved it.
Kirk, When you are in Japan, please do some digging to see if a 2 door Prado is coming back . 🤞🤞 In terms of pure misty-eyed nostalgia, the Land Cruiser 250 is still being built with the 'legendary' 2TR-FE engine while the 300 Series can be equipped with the 2GR-FE . 🤩🤩 As a veteran of decades of towing, I would never be ashamed of my hitch. That superfluous cover would be deposited in the basement on Day 1. 🤨

Love the night time drive, for some reason that makes for a more laid-back review. Maybe because it's actually early morning? Good discussion on powertrains and transmissions, like how you relate this truck's issues/setup with other Toyotas. Speaking of, does this truck handle better than a 4Runner around turns? Thanks for bringing us back to 1958.
The headlights on brand new vehicles, if not auto leveling, are not always aimed properly. If you didn't check that before the review, it can really skew the results.
Yes Tesla is notorious for piss poor aiming. I was driving in my Model Y through the H3 in a dark part and my low beams illuminated the upper tree canopy. I then understood why I was always being blinded in my 328d before my Tesla. I’m now in a Tacoma TRD OR and still get blinded. I hate driving towards LED headlights but it’s nice to drive behind them.
Great review man. Love the channel. I really feel like the one miss for this thing is the no third row. I really think if they come out with it in future that it will sell way better, and represent its self as a much better value
Makes sense that the fog lights turn off when the high beam is turned on or vice versa, because you have less visibility driving through fog with high beams on because more light reflects off the water droplets of the fog. So Toyota has designed the vehicle that if your driving with high beams on then your not driving in fog and so fog lights turn off.
Thank you for calling out the clunkiness of this and other vehicles at low speed. I have a 200 series that I repeatedly took back to the dealer complaining about this sensation and finally a regional technician explained that this was caused by a fuel cut during coasting. Lock-up engages to keep the engine spinning at the right RPM while fueling is removed. This process is supposed to be “imperceptible” to drivers but there are at least two of us out there who perceive it ;) A Ram 1500 I rented also exhibited the same clunkiness, so it’s not just Toyota doing the fuel cut. But, I think Toyota’s implementation is the clunkiest. Gotta keep calling them out and hopefully they can do better. Cheers
Makes sense that Toyota would design it, that the fog lights turn off when the high beam is turned on or vice versa. I would say Toyota assumes that if the vehicle has it’s high beams on then you’re not driving in fog and so fog lights turn off. You have less visibility driving through fog with high beams on because more light reflects off the water droplets of the fog.
I wonder if some of the harshness of the engine is baked in by Toyota because this is a truck? An off road vehicle and helps to add to that feel? As opposed to a road going vehicle such as Highlander or RX. Whether or not people enjoy that is another question.
