A funny trick I used to do playing Sonic CD on my tablet (like two or three years ago) was to have internet while the game booted up, and then once I got into the stage, just leave the house and the game would still play just fine, no ads or constant internet required, and thus I could play Sonic CD (and Sonic 2 as well if I'm remembering correctly) without internet.
By the way, I don't think the trick works anymore :(
I know for a fact that trick still works on Sonic 1.
Yes, SCD and Sonic 2 now say “the game needs internet to run” if you try the trick :((
@2fernandoc1 hey so wehn I would play sonic sega forever games I had my data on my sim emptied then before I entered I opened the data then no ads and it would work.
What i do is that i start the game with data, i have VERY little data thats enough to recognice it has internet but TOO low to have ads

I have so many gripes about Sega Forever and so many other things related. I have written so much about them over the last 3 years. I'm tired.

I’m PISSED that they didn’t decide to add in a final boss with a really cool concept to the Sonic CD port because ‘We wanna stay faithful to the original game’. Yet they decide to add Continues with ads, Hidden Palace Zone, REMOVE THE SONIC 1 SPIKES, AND EVEN MORE DAMN ADS THAT RUIN THE EXPERIENCE
Don’t forget an R2 substitute in Desert Dazzle

If they were really worried about accuracy, they could have made the extra Sonic CD stuff be a toggle. You could toggle the extra features on or off.

When I saw the Crazy Taxi added to Sega Forever it made me wonder if other Dreamcast games like Sonic Adventure would be added. But then I remembered some sections of those games would be hard(or too annoying) to do on a touch pad.

My brother in christ not once do you need to push 2 buttons at once during SA1, not even in gamma's levels.
(Proposed SA1 touchpad layout:
Touch menus (duh)
Main buttons:
Joystick on the left and jump button on the right at all times (duh)
B button action slightly to the left of jump button (with appropiate icons for each character's b button action I.E. tail spin and roll for tails (button changes with running speed) and hammer for amy at all times)
Context sensitive Y button actions pop up slightly above jump button at the times they need to like the pop ups in SA2 (this would make grabbing no longer take the same button as B action)
Swipe anywhere else to move camera and pinch to zoom (pinch to zoom HAS to be optional so as to not cause problems on android)
Pause button in the usual spots they are in mobile games
Miscellaneous buttons and actions
Chao garden has all controls at once, possibly looking like a genesis 6 button controler because thats the only way they could comfortably fit
Button layouts can be moved and resized in options like in sonic 1 and 2
Tap and hold anywhere to skip cutscenes
Tap anywhere to advance adventure field dialogue with npcs
(Casinopolis pinball) tap left side for left bumper and right side for right bumper
Table tilt with either joystick or tilt controls (change in options)
(Ice Cap/Tails sand level whose name I can't remember oops) Snowboard section has optional tilt controls (can be turned off) but the main button layout doesnt go away unlike pinball
(Sky chase) Tornado has swipe controls, tilt controls, or joystick with shoot button on the right side and lock on button slightly left of shoot button
Big's fishing has an optional skeumorph image of a reel that you reel when you want to catch the fish, removing the awkward controls of the original (you would have to set the controller down due to it being the optimal option to do this which would get annoying really fast)

(While we're on the topic, heres some things I would want for a general re-remaster:
Remappable buttons
X button doing Y actions instead of just copying B action
More robust rumble and possibly hd rumble on switch and ps5 (also applies to mobile but wothout the hd part obviuosly)
All features of dreamcast conversion with the option to use gc models with dc lighting and vice versa)
Higher quality voices, sfx and remastered music from the soundtrack cd, along with a rerelease of the soundtrack cd with bonus songs if you preorder (the cd by itself sold separately if you didnt preorder)
Implementing the cream model instead of a signpost (Its already in the game why did they do this in the first place)
Bugfixes but NOT exploit fixes
Higher quality textures for the UI and menus only
Npc models that match the gc models (poor eggman)
A 50 dollar burger king gift card)

I've played 3D games with an on-screen analog stick, emulators and ports alike. It has as much of the precision as an actual stick, but with no physical reference point to stop or return. But unless you slide very far on the regular, this becomes a non issue.

It's great that you covered the history of this somewhat obscure part of Sega's legacy. Even when the servers and games themselves go down, this can serve as a memorial to the ups and downs of mobile gaming.

The cool part about the android version is that restoring the purchase allows you to install the legacy versions instead of just removing ads from the SF versions. The aspect ration is weird on ultrawide displays but its still better than what we have now

I don't know why they keep fucking with the Whitehead versions of these games, that were already perfect, adding "improvements" when they're only adding problems that make them worse than the originals and introducing more bugs in the process.

Thanks for telling me about Sonic 3 Air on iOS, I can now play all of the classic Sonic games on my phone! I even went and copied over all of the settings I have set in my computer.
what I hate about the S4E2 Forever re-release is the fact that if you own the older version (which I do, and don't ask why), it lets you download it, which is fine.
..except for the fact that the older version is locked to 30 FPS, while the new one is to 60, and unless I pay for it again, I am stuck either with ads or 30 FPS.
edit: I was going to purchase the new version but it kept defaulting to my other google account and wouldn't let me change despite CLEARLY SETTING THE RIGHT ONE WHEN IT ASKED ME AT THE START. probably dodged a bullet tbh

I bought sonic 2 on Google play back in 2013, and wanted the Sega forever version on my phone, and when I tried to restore my purchase to get no ads, the app just took me to Google play to redownload sonic 2 2013.
Because they have 2 different digital bar codes meaning they are technically not the same product. Like trying to play an Xbox game in a PlayStation.

My solution to the ads: use a crappy hotspot, as it only detects if you’re connected, but not how good it is. No ads baby!!!!!
I still remember when what I assume to be Sega Forever just absolutely broke Sonic 1 somehow, I'm talking random stuff from Sonic 2 just showing up, messing with the time trials menu (GHZ act 3 was treated as the start of a new zone, would keep offsetting until a bunch of later levels were just inaccessible), and you just flat out could not complete Spring Yard Zone Act 3 (You just DIED as sonic walked offscreen), the save select menu showed 7 emeralds (6 were still required by default as far as I'm aware). It was years ago at this point but like HOW did they mess up copy-pasting code that badly??? I'm still glad I have the Spring Yard death glitch that made the game UNCOMPLETEABLE archived via RUclips because like Why?
Im not far into the video, but:
Did you know, that if you actually restored your purchase for the Sega Forever emulated game, it would straight up take you to the emulated version, and not restore the ads-free play for your purchase?

For as bad as sonic origins is,it’s the only way I can play the classic games without ads since I don’t own a pc. I grew up with the 2013 release of sonic 2 so it breaks my heart to see it in its current state.
This just makes me glad that:
1. I don't play mobile games. If I think I'll be gaming on the go, I'll play my switch where those sorts of shenanigans with ads just won't play.
2. If I want to play classic Sonic, I'm pretty much never going with official Sega releases since Sega can't even EMULATE their games properly, let alone do remasters that don't suck.
Bonus: You don't actually need the Steam version of S3K to play Sonic 3 AIR. Pretty much any .bin of it that isn't patched will do. The S3 AIR website even points this out and most ROMs of it you find, provided they're not in a cooked ROM format (Hence why I said .bin.) will match the checksum of the ROM you'd get from the Steam version. S3AIR blows everything even Sonic Origins has done out of the water.

Well you can buy one I mean it’s compatible with a higher version but it won’t work for the 2007 Apple TV you need like the 2016 or higher Apple TV in odder to play it but it’s better that sega forever never update the Apple TV version and for s2 the Apple TV version still has Porto palace but unfortunately I don’t know how to access level select in sonic 1 and 2 on Apple TV but hey the Apple TV has some fun stuff to!

I bought the original Sonic 1 and 2 mobile ports before sega forever became a thing on my Android phone (where the sega forever versions replaced the orignals rather than being updates) and redownloaded them every time I got a new one. Somehow, despite using the most up to date version of the OS the games still work as intended with the only even remotely broken-ish thing being certain things that were meant to be off screen being at the edge of the screen due to the modern screen size

10:08 Actually, it’ll work with any S3&K ROM, you just have to find a ROM (they’re everywhere, shouldn’t be THAT hard to find) and rename the title of the file to that of the Steam version. Yes, I do know that it is in fact technically piracy.
I still play the android ports that I purchased years ago.
The ones that were counterparts to the free"no wifi, no saves" version.
It sucks they don't update the premium ones, but the "with ads" version is still supported...
This is why I bought Origins. No ads, mostly a one time purchase, more consistent, and more content. Such as Amy in all games, Knuckles in CD, Game Gear Games, and Dropdash.
I personally wouldn't touch origins with a ten foot pole, but on paper it's definitely a lot better than whatever Sega forever offers
@@XavierDaSalla i only had the sega forever versoins of sonic 1 2 and cd. the only game i got through the most was cd on mobile. I fully completed the games on origins though.
Fun fact: the mobile version of sonic 4 episode 1 is just the beta version of the game.
Can't forget that in S4epII Sonic's hands are broken. Every gesture they could make are all loaded at once. Unless that is an Android-exclusive issue

I’ve known the Sonic 2 Emerald, Debug and extra continues codes for years, but haven’t heard of the proto palace code until now. Gonna go try that. (Yes, I play the mobile version, I know about hidden palace and the backstory behind it)
Turns out the code you provided is barely wrong, you forgot the 04 at the end, and you apparently need to activate debug mode too.
Strange, I’m playing it as Sonic + Tails, but there was a 1-up monitor with Tails on it.
Interesting how they warp you back to the level select when you get to where the level “ends”. I wonder if I can bypass it with debug mode…
I can, but there’s not much to see. It’s basically just a carbon copy of the prototype version of Hidden palace from what I can tell.

You know there are better fan-made versions of sonic 1 and 2, called Sonic 1 forever, and Sonic 2 absolute, that are just like Sonic 3 air and support mods. And you can install it on both PC and mobile devices (Plus there is a mod for sonic 2 absolute that adds proto palace, so don't worry it will never be taken from you).
I only managed to get Sonic 3 A.I.R, Sonic 1 Forever & Sonic 2 Absolute didn't work for me
and thats why i use the decomps
the sega forever versions of sonic 1 and 2 are part of the reason i have a android along with my main iphone
if you know you know since i own more copys of sonic 1 then you can sake a stick at and even the paid versions of the mobile versions and i still cant restore them

We need a subscription based service from SEGA paying $60 a year. You get to experience most of the Master System games, Genesis/CD/32X games, Game Gear games, Saturn games, Dreamcast games, and most of the Sega games that ranged through the PS2/Xbox/GC era to the PS4/XBONE/Wii U era. It would be available for the Series X/S, PS5, and Switch. Similar to Nintendo Switch online you get to play most of SEGA’s classics for $60 a year. You have the option of doing save states, rewinding, etc. I think it would be a great way to preserve the classic titles

I think the reason you got the watch a ad to continue sometimes and not others while there was that bug was that you get the pop-up if you don't have any continues but the times you didn't you had at least 1

I bought all 3 Shining Force game ad free IAP, but my Shining Force 2 has a weird issue where the save is corrupt? And I think it was even uploaded to the cloud corrupted, when I leave the app the save reverts back a corrupted one and unless they wipe my save on the cloud, there's no much I can do, I even messaged support and basically said they can't do a thing about it.
It's specially weird when the other two Shining Force games work normally. And I hate that there's no local save file when you buy the ad free version.

What I do to have no ads while playing the mobile ports of classic Sonic games is turning on mobile data. Sure, that will give me ads, but not if I don't have money to use mobile data! So even though it's turned on, no ads play. And funnily enough, this bypasses the 'please connect to the Internet' message you get when booting up the game. So yay!

What are we doing here? These games are 30 years old and are now ported for free but the complaint is ads, yet it’s cheaper than a RedBull just to buy it and have them removed. How else are they going to keep paying the developers who have to consistently update these games across a million different smart phones, tablets, and operating systems, who themselves update and break their game, so they have to back in and recode it.
To me the ads are just like playing a turn based RPG. Wait a couple seconds then back to action. Also I’d like to remind people that when these games came out on Sega when they’re were buggy, they were buggy and there was no patch coming to fix the bug. Imagine just having to get use to the quirks of a game.

Only halfway through the video at this point but I'd like to chime in as a stickler of the original android release, sonic CD is no longer able to download or even verify its data file if it exists. No idea if that's due to the violent storage access changes made in android with version 13 but it's completely cooked.
It does work if it's been installed on 12 or below and then updated.
I would recommend lowering your background audio in the future.
The music is a bit too loud at points and it's hard to hear what you're saying.

My secret is that I used a expired data (meaning 0mb left) which tricks every mobile port that I have to think I'm online but since my data expired. The ads can't load so I'm ad free

I know a trick for ads. I have an android so I don't know if it works on apple but when an ad comes you can just exit the app but not close it (as in let it run in the background for a bit) and then reopen it and no ad. However this doesn't work for a few games, Akinator is one of them.
i have found a way to bypass the ads entirely
basically just turn on mobile data
(it works better if you dont actually have access to the internet with it on atleast for me)
