Man, you’ve really grown as a channel. I remember back in the day when you asked me to do a green screen fight scene for you in Super Mario 64 LMFAOO. Good job, kiddo. I’m really proud of you 💯
So there was an update that fixed the following: -Tails doesn’t get stuck in Sonic 2 anymore -New cheats (for Sonic 3&K Sound Test -Other stuff I can’t remember
They didn’t fix tails they just made it so you can’t here him jumping infinity, they also fixed the blue spheres music not speeding up and enabled the sonic 3 codes that were already in the game but were disabled
The canonical reason for Tails not being in CD was because he went to a plane convention, I think that has alot more charm to it than Sonic just not meeting him yet.
Great vid that outlines the good and the bad of this game. As a fellow Aussie I can’t justify the price for this game considering the many little issues. I’ll consider it for maybe 20-30 dollars.

About the Sonic CD ending cutscenes, the speed in Origins its the real speed that its supposed to play, It was the 1996 PC port which slowed the ending down to fit most of the song in it
It was only coming back to edit where I figured that out and they were slowed to fit the credits on both pc and sega cd but I couldn’t help but feel in some places it was too fast which is why i made my own edit adjusting the speed and sound in places
this is a good review. it hits on many good points. as someone that doesnt have as much time to game as I used to i appreciate the unlimited lives change. but agree it should be optional.
13:26 I'm happy you seem to be the only one who noticed. When I saw the sped up ending I was upset. Are you really gonna speed it up just because the opening was fast? The only reason the opening was like that was to have the movie match the same length as the song. I'm also really pissed they used the beta ver of you can do anything just like sonic jam did. The whole coins debacle is probably my second biggest nitpick, right behind the screwed up save system. Score, Rings, and Lives all tied together in the originals in a way that gave you a reason to grow your skill that was tangible on screen. Lives existed as both a reward and punishment, punishing you for playing too poorly with a game over while rewarding you for playing well by incrementally inching you away from that happening into an ever growing safety net. Holding 100 rings at the same time rewarded a 1-up, and earning enough score did the same, with continues only further adding to your ability to grow your safety net. Holding onto large amounts of rings would also reward you with score at the end of each stage, potentially giving you even more lives. I hear the argument around all over the place of "Well if you never game over anyway, why do you even care about it being removed?" to which I reiterate the important distinction: Growing your skill to the point you can build up your safety net is different from there not being any danger to begin with. Safety nets are earned. Not having danger by default just makes all of the tied together game mechanics built around that danger pointless. Without lives, why should you bother holding onto more than 1 ring with fewer than 7 chaos emeralds? Why should you care about score at all in general? For maximum accessibility, I would have handled it like this; Give the player three different options for lives in the settings menu and pause menu: Style 1 - Classic (Player has classic lives, can spend coins in special stages if they want to) Style 2 - Safe (Player has Infinite lives, can spend coins in special stages if they want to) Style 3 - Modern (Coins act as lives, and can also be spent in special stages) Apply this to Classic Mode as well and have both modes use the same save data, and you've got all the accessibility you could ever want or need. Why did we not get this?
@@mazkeraid4039 Considering what actually released was not the same thing as what STEALTH and Headcannon turned in, it's possible they did implement them as options and SEGA removed them after the fact.
16:24 Alright time for the biggest one, one of the other collaborators (Bobby Brooks), seems to have been the lone guy that caused the music for the 3 zones (also Competition Menu and S3 Ending, the latter of which is used in the Best Ending only) to be replaced with the new tracks
I hate to be that guy but in this game you do have consequences when you die, you get set back to the last checkpoint and the level resets to how it was when you hit the checkpoint, but in family guy back to the multiverse where when you die enemies don’t respawn, stages don’t reset, and in the boss fights, the bosses health doesn’t even reset, when you get to the final boss, it throws everything at you
In classic mode the only special stage i failed was the 7th so just to unlock it in both the & origins time i have to play through about half of the game (asuming i don't fail any special stages) again just to unlock this 1 special stage in both time attacks
I can see some of the problems like coins replacing the lives count being weird to hyper veterans. However because it takes the lives counter's place on the screen, the screen feels complete and has close to everything. It may be useless while playing, but having something like lives that isn't lives take the place makes it feel better instead of removing it altogether in m opinion. It's so minor though that I think that you became a part of the compromised minority. Sorry that the game broke your nostalgia.
It’s not so much my nostalgia as i can go without lives or a lives icon but i feel plastering coins on the screen feels so extra and so unnecessary and clashes with the visual style of the game so it stands out in a very annoying way or at least thats how i feel
@@dshaynietheawesome I think reason it's changed like that is because it's the easiest way to convey where you can get coins in the level. Basically it's to show that coins replace lives in a mechanical sense. I think it's smart, but by your reaction it seemed you were really influenced by the lives count previously so the change didn't sit well. If the game had better gameplay settings, I think it would have been fine but they didn't do that. Probably because it is easier to market the game if they are modes rather than settings.
I am not really sure why anyone cares about the lives system. On one hand, infinite chances is more accessible to new comers but for veterans.. come on, when was the last time we lost any lives on these games? Also, in the last few games to use lives they are essentially pointless as post game over screen we are still back where we were due to save systems. It's the way that the classic / original mode is just the anniversary mode cropped that makes no sense to me. That isn't what it says on the tin at all..
@@Zaphod-ef9yz You're not wrong. I haven't played classic mode but if they bring you back to your last checkpoint, then it's just an annoyance in that you have to go through the screen just to be back when that wasn't necessary. The ending of Sonic CD and the removal of the voices of sonic isn’t the developers fault. It’s Sega’s fault. Sega purposefully sabatoged it.
See people give Sega credit for being supportive of modding when in reality they're just a more douchey Nintendo.
at least they dont sue you for even saying their fricking name...
High quality, underrated youtuber.
Dshaynie is waaaaaaaay to underrated
It took me 11 years to realize that "Sonic" is an anagramm of "Coins". I'm not sure how I feel about this.
coins…. mario…. sonic…. rings…
Totally loved this video. The humour, the special effects, and of course the in-depth look into Origins and its options. Top notch!
Man, you’ve really grown as a channel.
I remember back in the day when you asked me to do a green screen fight scene for you in Super Mario 64 LMFAOO.
Good job, kiddo. I’m really proud of you 💯
🫡
So there was an update that fixed the following:
-Tails doesn’t get stuck in Sonic 2 anymore
-New cheats (for Sonic 3&K Sound Test
-Other stuff I can’t remember
They didn’t fix tails they just made it so you can’t here him jumping infinity, they also fixed the blue spheres music not speeding up and enabled the sonic 3 codes that were already in the game but were disabled
@@dshaynietheawesome For Tails thing, eh that's still good in its own right
ok the first scene where you tape sonic 1,2,CD & 3 together is downright funny
I find it hilarious that Sega went through all of the effort to replace the MJ songs, but forgot to take Brad Buxer out of the credits.
14:58 As for Stealth, he said was SEGA made major modifications to his work, some due to how Origins was, some not
The greatest sin was no mighty and ray
21:25 Now I know why Knuckles wasn't added to the game.
The canonical reason for Tails not being in CD was because he went to a plane convention, I think that has alot more charm to it than Sonic just not meeting him yet.
"Got to visit the beautiful good futures" proceeds to show a bad future💀
13:04
Sonic: im outta here!
Song: yayyyy
Yep, the song hates sonic
I was waiting for the jump at the end and it was more perfect than I could have possibly imagined
I saw someone say "Tails is playable in SCU let's gooooo" Poor them.
They should've remade these games in the animation style of the menus IMO. We already have Megadrive Sonic games on the Nintendo online.
12:09
Doc/original Devs: That's How time traveling Works
Marty/Kids You telling me you made a horrible remaster, OnTop of A Masterpiece?!?!
Lol
Thankfully as of the day this uploaded, the Tails bug is fixed and the blue sphere music speeds up properly.
I really like your passion for the Sonic series. The green screen segments were great. I hope your channel continues to grow!!
that avgn reference was perfect 😂😂
Great vid that outlines the good and the bad of this game. As a fellow Aussie I can’t justify the price for this game considering the many little issues. I’ll consider it for maybe 20-30 dollars.
OK I wasn't expecting an AVGN reference, it make me laugh ngl.
I LOVED that finale
Omgg!! "What where they thinking?!?!"
I love that the reference went so far as to dress up as the nerd
it felt fitting
That ending bit of the video was pretty good. I like how ya had yourself green screened into what looks like Sonic 2s ending with the music. Still a great ending to a great game.
I’m surprised you didn’t go over the weird physics, especially in 3&K. There’s some stuff that isn’t even accessible that was before. Specifically that one big ring in Hydrocity
I haven’t experienced or noticed this
I was never able to get that ring in the real version.
7:27 "Also, coin. Coins and Sonic. *_Mario_** coin sound plays twice while some are shown on screen* _COINS!!!"_
they should have put red rings instead of coins lol
Not gonna like you are one of the best channels to watch when you are just looking to learn something and you’re funny while you’re doing
9:34 Sonic CD was not intended as a sequel, its chronological position was never clear until the release of Sonic 4. With the release of Sonic 4, Sonic CD was placed between 3&K and Sonic 4 (Although now they changed it and it is between Sonic 1 and 2).
You really want to use sonic 4 to make your point?
@@dshaynietheawesome What's wrong with it? Sonic 4 is completely canonical and, although it has now changed, at the time it was explained that it is a continuation of Sonic CD
@@juanignaciotello6045 sonic 4 is not canonical anymore and i think you knew that also don't you think the existence of sonic cd being placed between sonic 1 and 2 may mean oh i dunno thats what is officially canon now
but keep to your preferred headcanon i won't argue
@@dshaynietheawesome Where did you get that Sonic 4 is not canon? I did not hear that
@@dshaynietheawesome I think you're being unreasonable about the topic. While, yes, it does make the most sense that Sonic CD takes place between 1 and 2, that doesn't discount that there have always been valid reasons to believe otherwise. It's a bit strange to outright pretend that it makes no sense for CD to have taken place after 3&K when there's plenty of reasonable evidence that could have previously made a case for it.
Love this video, well organized and was really nice to watch. Keep up the great work!
I'm actually so pissed that they had the nerve to de-list it off of Steam. All I can really do now is play them on an emulator (if you want, use ClassicBoy Pro) since my high school has restricted computer games.
I seriously got a Sonic Origins Ad 🗿
If head cannon actually was able to finish sonic 3 & Knuckles we could’ve got an option between animated remaster of the sonic 3 and knuckles cutscenes and the originals.
Edit : idk actually care if they did that or not cause the originals are still master pieces
That “NOO-” at the end made me laugh I was just expecting the video to end
7:21 got me rolling on the floor
7:20
About the Sonic CD ending cutscenes, the speed in Origins its the real speed that its supposed to play,
It was the 1996 PC port which slowed the ending down to fit most of the song in it
It was only coming back to edit where I figured that out and they were slowed to fit the credits on both pc and sega cd but I couldn’t help but feel in some places it was too fast which is why i made my own edit adjusting the speed and sound in places
That was the best outro I've ever seen.
lmfao you sold me on that beginning, absolutely hilarious
Coins the hedgehog sounds like a good name for a sonic oc
Thanks for making this video all that time ago. If you hadn’t I would’ve had no idea 3 A.I.R. Was available on mobile.
this is a good review. it hits on many good points.
as someone that doesnt have as much time to game as I used to i appreciate the unlimited lives change. but agree it should be optional.
13:26
I'm happy you seem to be the only one who noticed. When I saw the sped up ending I was upset. Are you really gonna speed it up just because the opening was fast?
The only reason the opening was like that was to have the movie match the same length as the song. I'm also really pissed they used the beta ver of you can do anything just like sonic jam did. THANK GOD WE HAD MODS TO FIX THOSE ISSUES. at least I'm thankful for the cutscene upscaling.
bruh someone made a mod that adds Mighty as a new playable character in Sonic 3 A.I.R. also the part at the end
And yet, people bought it in droves.
Either we're doing something wrong or Sega is doing something horribly, horribly right
23:52 This is me realizing that sonic 3 a.i.r. exists
The Coins system is a must when you want to do those goddam awful Sonic CD Special Stages…
I never really had a problem with them I only ever failed them about twice during my origins playthrough but truthfully I’ve been playing this version of cd since 2014
Would of been a day one buy if they made physicals. Something tells me SEGA didn’t so they can pull the games off the online market at some point to make another collection in the future
For changing Ice Cap music they WON'T be forgiven. Never.
Awkward that this video was released a day after some of the bugs were already fixed in a patch lol
Moders do what seg don't to got me dying on the floor.
24:03 Me If Big Man Loses The Splatfest
The "coins" schpeal was such a strange nitpick. Why waste so much energy on such a miniscule change?
20:20 avgn moment and I'm happy for it
The back to the future reference got me
to the people in the comments trying to defend Origins' downsides, shortcomings and detrimental bugs, i present to you a concept:
a game that is what it says it is in advertising and description, works as intended, and doesn't inconvenience the player through developer error, poor decision-making or game/content pricing. it's a bit of a fantastical concept, i know, but just imagine it for a second.
Sounds like a myth to me
@@dshaynietheawesome perhaps
also, sorry to everyone else who reads my comment above, it is pretty snarky 😬
also, cool video on the debug and cheat code stuff, dshaynie. i appreciate having that now, can't believe i didn't know about some of the stuff in it
I love the intro, it is so accurate and funny at the same time.
The ending made me laugh
This is the reason why i bought S3&K before Origins came out.
9:26 *"SCREW YOU, LABYRINTH ZONE!"*
Even dispite of all the negativity that this game now has gained even with the whole music situation with Sonic 3 and Knuckles but even inspite of that I'd still consider owing this compilation
been a while since I laughed with a review. Great review, detailed and unbiased. May get the game if the price goes down significantly.
Origins Plus was announced, Amy is Playable, and that’s about it besides a bunch of smaller games being included, (Sonic Triple Trouble, Mean Bean Machine, Tail’s Adventure, etc). Sadly no Chaotix, neither the game nor as playable characters.
This game is perfect for me,sonic 3 prototype music is great just everything is.
Agreed.
4:39 - It actually is more convenient to have a manual open on your phone while playing so you don't have to go through any in-game process to glance at things. But still. I wish they'd had an in-game manual AS WELL.
I think I would consider getting the game if Amy was actually playable.
(Was gonna say Amy is underrated, but is she really with fans at this point? I know she used to be called annoying back then, but I see a lot more appreciation for her character these days. Not just the Boom version either. I mean her original character back in the adventure games up to unleashed)
I think you mean if, and I'll say this as the guy who grew up with Sonic, Amy was just there in later games (with the exception of Unleashed).
@@mazkeraid4039: Thanks. The comment is now edited.
No time like the present for change, which goes for more than just my comment. Amy usually has pretty unique gameplay when she is playable, so I am very hopeful for her inclusion beyond cameos.
@@fishnewt1331 I would have as well, but…
I thought I was the only one who loved ice cap zones theme
The intro felt like an episode of Gumball
Tysm for showing how you can switch the sonic CD music. You’re a game saver.
“Screw you Labyrinth Zone”
If you ever play Sonic 2, wait until you get to Metropolis Zone
Wow this is a really well pit together vid
For maximum accessibility, I would have handled it like this; Give the player three different options for lives in the settings menu and pause menu:
Style 1 - Classic (Player has classic lives, can spend coins in special stages if they want to)
Style 2 - Safe (Player has Infinite lives, can spend coins in special stages if they want to)
Style 3 - Modern (Coins act as lives, and can also be spent in special stages)
Apply this to Classic Mode as well and have both modes use the same save data, and you've got all the accessibility you could ever want or need. Why did we not get this?
See?!
@@mazkeraid4039 See what?
@@Crow_Rising The options that Stealth and SEGA should've done.
@@mazkeraid4039 Considering what actually released was not the same thing as what STEALTH and Headcannon turned in, it's possible they did implement them as options and SEGA removed them after the fact.
@@Crow_Rising No idea what feature he and his team had though, what he described on Twitter is justified but vague.
Perfect title, I couldn’t off said it any better myself to be honest. Good video!
0:14 bro needed to sacrifice 3 phones for that joke 💀
yes
The intro is cool in this video but I was expecting the 3 phones plus adding sonic 3 and knuckles would turn into a Nintendo switch
I’m very happy the tails respawn glitch was fixed
17:00 me too me too bro 😢
The skit is actually the best
It it brings you to the start of act 1 of the current zone then I think that's fine.
Did any of you know that u can spell sonic from
Coins
Sonic
So technically it still says sonic
17:00 I’ll do you one better, MJ’s Ice Cap is my favorite song in the series
