This looks like an exceptionally well-designed and well-built piece of equipment. And one of the best "how to" videos I've ever seen. No fat, just what you need to do the job. I'm getting one for sure.
I'm a "hobby" machinist and gunsmith, not a pro by any means. The MGW Sight Pro is exceptionally well designed and built, with solid reliable quality and function in mind. I can't find a shortcut evident anywhere, it's really that good. If I could have one additional feature, it would be to incorporate a mount for a dial indicator to register on the "pusher block". That way if you know you want to move the sight say .010", you can move it, take tension off, then bring the pusher back into contact with the sight to take that reading. As is now, with no scale or measuring methodology, one can only eyeball the sight/slide relationship without removing the slide. Eyeball is close though, and maybe good enough. Just received mine so have only replaced sights on one pistol, a Sig P229. Stock sights removed medium pressure, the new Trijicon HD's, with light lubrication in the dovetails, went in smoothly with moderately hard pressure, no fitting done to sights.
Every now and then, a tool comes along that every professional gunsmith should have. This is one of them. We've tried a handful of "universal" sight tools, but this one does it right. The others are all mostly garbage. Before, we used to dread those stubborn XD sights. Now, we look forward to them. Thanks MGW for making a well designed universal pusher.
Just received my MGW Sight Pro on sale from MidwayUSA. It is awesome! The narrator in this video describes this tool as a behemoth. He is not kidding -- it weighs five pounds on my digital scale. But there is NO DOUBT that this tool is the best there is.... Good job MGW! Top shelf! I also ordered seven of the brand specific rail shoes.
I have several of your individual sight pushers and believe them to be the highest quality of any available. So far I have the ones I need the most...Sig Sauer, GLOCK, 1911. I own a lot of pistols and buying each additional tool is starting to get cost prohibitive. I saw this and bulked at first with how much it cost. Now that I have seen it up close and in action I am sold. Those shoes are usually less than $20 and you can get one for practically everything made. I have other methods like a 1-ton Harbor Freight arbor press and in an emergency plastic drift punches. I was recently reminded why I don't like drifting sights on a HK VP9 LE. I had a hell of a time getting it to move to start with. After I did get it moving finding center was a challenge going back and forth a few times. I don't particularly like "beating" on my guns or sight. I've seen some really botched jobs some guys have done a number on. Yeah, you got the sights off/on....but your slide is marred and buggered all up. I'd never use brass or steel for that. At least plastic doesn't do any damage as long as you wrap the slide in leather before putting it in the vice. I'd much rather use the correct pusher tool. You don't have to be as careful of cracking the tritium viles either. I had to be extremely careful doing so...no damage or marks. I consider myself lucky though and don't want to try for round two. I'm sold.....gonna get this asap when funds are available! John
if I had the money back I spent on other sight tools, I could have paid for this. With this tool I had old the sights off and the new ones on in the same time it would take to fidget with lesser tools. Well worth it.
Very nice tool I just got this from Brownells I first did a SIG P228 with factory installed sights VERY hard to remove, and impossible without damaging the weapon or sights without this tool Worked great, though I did need to secure into a vise to feel comfortable removing the rear sight as it was REALLY in there Worth every penny
That rear sight came out easy alright. Almost looked too easy.🤔 Shoulda used a Springfield XD9's rear sight!🤣 That would be a REAL test. I have half a dozen sight tools, a couple are almost identical to that one. And yes, they work pretty well. But it would have went further had you used a trouble sight as a demo, as opposed to one that's butter. With all that said, it looks like a nice tool. 👌
I just bought an XD9 Mod 2 along with some TFO sights. I ordered one of those Mickey Mouse sight pusher tools from Amazon thinking I could do the job myself. I wanted to buy a tool so I could do all my future sights myself and avoid paying $30 every time to have a gunsmith do the work. The bottom line is the $90 sight pusher tool I bought put a slight scratch mark on my new gun which really upset me. I then took my XD to my local gunsmith who has the same exact tool in this video. He removed my stock sights and installed my TFO sights in less than ten minutes. All this without any scratch marks on anything. Lesson learned? Either buy a high quality tool like the MGW or go to a gunsmith that already has the MGW tool.
Pricey...but exceptionally well designed, and worth it. I can't see banging on a $1,000 gun with a punch and hammer to install sights. I'd take it to a smith who'd pay for screw ups, unless you have this tool. Collecting shoes now; less than $14 each at Midway... One question tho: any special precautions when mounting the tool in a vise? Wouldn't want to mar the tool. Thanks.
Just installed new Trijicon HD sights on two Sig P226's over the weekend. Those old sights were on TIGHT, but this tool did the job with no issues or damage. Great tool.
This might be dumb, or unnecessary, but is there or would you consider a sight pusher that has like little punch arms to get as close to the base of the front sight?
Take that pad out and make sure both washers are in there before you use it. I got a slightly use and obviously abused one from Brownell's. I assume some jerk took them to task on their 100% satisfaction guaranty. It says right on a tag inside the box, "DO NOT CONTACT THE RETAILER". Some people!
no issues with tritium sights and it should be fine with the bullseye. worst case if their is a wide version that is wider than our standard block, you can purchase our 1 legged block
Is an impact driver required in order to switch out the different assemblies, or can the removal of those screws be done by hand both ways? Makes me nervous to use a driver like that on a $300-$400 sight tool.
Any tips on using the tool with CZ slides? I bought the tool and the shoe for the CZ, but the side supports don't contact the slide as the CZ fits inside the shoe. Any help would be appreciated.
The CZ shoe only needs to support the slide from twisting which the shoe does . when you clamp it down between the white pad and slide it will hold it fine to remove and adjust the sights.
I am not familiar wioth this weapon model but we do have a slide engineer program where if you send in just the slide and we do not have a shoe we can pair for it, then we will design one and send the slide and free shoe back to you within a few days.
I LIKE THIS TOOL! A LOT! The Meprolight universal pusher was almost $700, and it sucked ass. What's will all the automotive shit? We don't want to see that! Just kidding! I had the pan off my GM whatever it is 4L60E something or other 4 speed automatic, and was dumping brown goo out, and putting on a deep finned cast pan with a drain on it, and pumping pink schmoo in. See low carbon steel, so your machinist can make you an oddball shoe with his Bridgeport like he is cutting a bar of soap.
I have this sight tool and when I placed my Sig P320 slide into the device , the pusher was too short to grab the sights ; however , I took apart the white delrin pad and low and behold it has adjustable spacers on it . Problem solved . This video does not address this nor does the instructions that come with the sight pro ... would have been nice if this was discussed ..otherwise this is an awesome sight tool ..
those pens are impossible to find anymore but we have found a small dab of neverseize works great. they sell them in a tube like chapstick now at lowes, home depot etc
Sorry Guys, I have the MGW Sight-Pro and the Beretta and Glock shoes. The Beretta Clamp shoes don't grab the sights precisely enough and the White Plastic Beretta included pad is worthless. The instructions don't address how to utilize/fit the white pad onto the Beretta Slide. The Glock having the angled sight configuration should be included with the Tool rather than having a $80.00 price tag. Don't buy this tool, you can obtain quality sight pusher at a third of the cost. The tool is over built when it doesn't require it to be and the cost is outrageous. I had the tool for about a year before working with it or I would have certainly returned it.
Why in the hell wouldvi spend $300 on a sight tool....and ohh I have to buy a “shoe” that fits my slide.... another $25 per specific “shoe”. When I have only changed sights 3 times in 25 years? NO WAY! KEEP IT! What a joke. Go tho the gun store. Done in 10 min. $20
This is EXACTLY the problem with the world today sir. You are bashing a product that YOU have no need for because as you stated , you have changed 3 sights in 25 years. That's like someone who maybe changes their tires once every other year buying a 20k tire changing machine Of course that's a stupid purchase. But, not every gun owner and enthusiast is like you. Some people own dozens and dozens of different model guns and paying a gunsmith 20-40 dollars every time they wanted sight installed ( or ADJUSTED !! ) would cost WAY more than this tool. This is a commercial grade tool that individuals also happen to love due to its functionality. . Also many people in local gun clubs co op in the buy of the tool and everyone shares it!!
@@MGWINC Nobody charges $20 to install sights these days.....Probably 1985 prices maybe! If someone owns just a dozen pistols this tool would pay for itself very quickly! I own way more than that and prefer to do my own work. You control the outcome that way. If something gets damaged, it's all on you. Better than leaving fate to some hamfisted monkey! Oohrah!! John

Can you use this with a Beretta 92 series pistol? If so, can you do so without removing the safety lever?
yes you can surely use without removing them. we have smaller side tabs for that very reason included in the the new kit.
Is an impact driver required in order to switch out the different assemblies, or can the removal of those screws be done by hand both ways? Makes me nervous to use a driver like that on a $300-$400 sight tool.
this is an older design and we no longer have this style however you dont need an impact to remove them just a long arm allen wrench
@@MGWINC good to know! Thank you!
Is there a plate made for the Kimber Rapide?
I am not 100 percent sure as we have not had one requested but I think it should be the same as the 1911 which is MGWSP105
How come you don't use the 2 big washers that go on before the top knobs ??
just for the video so it progressed faster. We definitely use them when using the tool
MGWINC ok thanks. I just ordered it from Midway.
Great tool if only could do rifle sights too ..
do you sell a clamp shoe kit?

we do not have kits as we sell the shoes thru our distributors. they may offer kits or discounts for volume. especially ameriglo
What is the model number, I want the one in your video but all I seem to find is the universal, not the armors grade, Thanks
All of our sight pros are armorers grade and the part number is MGWSP1000.
