Tempted to get this mainly because of my M&P Shield but also because I’m considering becoming an armorer. But, boy, that’s a LOT of different shoes to buy! I’d have to research what would be the most common guns and limit shoes to 10-20 at most so I could actually make a profit. Crazy scrolling through MGW’s site there’s 70-ish of them. And several for each mfr/model (e.g. M&P/Shield/ShieldEZ/Equalizer, different Sig P models). Tough call.
Damn, this is an old video format of mine, and it makes me cringe watching it! When I was an FFL I bought the most common shoes for the guns that I saw in the shop. Even if I didn't do a sight swap on the gun I bought the shoe and yes it gets expensive. I still have this pusher, absolutely love it and still would recommend it to any professional. Start with the basics and work up from there. This is not an inexpensive purchase by any means, but it is a professional quality tool. There were times when I would get a request for pushing a sight that I didn't have a shoe for and I would just explain that I need to order the part for my pusher and it would take a few days to get it in. They were essentially buying the shoe. I was buying a lot from Brownells back then (still do, just not nearly as much) and their edge membership worked out great for getting parts in earlier than ground shipment, like sight shoes. Plus they give discounts for Gunsmiths and sometimes students. Let me know which way you go on a pusher. And if you decide on being an armorer, I wish you luck and tell you that working on guns is one of my favorite things. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the reply I’ll keep you posted. Have you used this on a Shield? Everything I’ve read says it’s a nightmare. Was looking at the wheeler engineering one before I saw this. Impending (current?) recession has a part to play in spending right now. We’ll see.
@@AC-tz3pk I have not worked on a Shield with it, yet. But I have pushed some XD Sights with it and those can be a PITA. I actually bought this pusher because of an XD that I did some Cerakote work on and my old pusher (it was a real POS) marked up the slide putting the sights back on. So I immediately bought this and re-did the Cerakote work. That was an expensive day. I hear you on the recession. It is a lot of money to spend with all of the uncertainty right now for a hobby even if it would lead to a profession. But, good on you for learning a skill! During uncertain times, skills are important to have.
Excellent. I have pushed mine a few times. I wish the 92 had a removable front sight like the 96. On the Beretta conversion kit, they actually give you another bumper that is shorter for the top piece. Thanks for watching!
You don't need to be a pro, only to have screwed one slide, like I just did to my new Walther PDP Pro, I am double pissed, for damaging it and for having to expend so much in this tool so it does not happens again ever, buying the shoes is crazy but I understand it is difficult to make one tool fit all, my tool I used that screwed the slide is a P500 Pro Universal sight tool, which all slides sit flat on it and are secured from sides and top but its setting and alignment are time consuming and not exactly easy, I had the tool since 2015 and paid almost $300 back then as well, now will sell it to recoup some cash as in the new tool plus accessories I am set back $451.00 almost the cost of a firearm, for example that new Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 2.0! but it is done, no more screwing a slide, I will try to repair mine but the pusher took some corner material off on the real sight ramp, not sure if it can be fine filed and blued to at least make it look not so horrible, it bothers me really!
I was an FFL for 10 years... yea you need to replace a bunch of sights to pay for one of these... or just screw up 1 customers gun with a cheap pusher...
@@WV591 couldn’t have said that better myself! The reason I upgraded to this one was because it was the first one that could push sights on an XD without screwing the slide up. I had Cerakoted many XD slides that were pushed with a budget pusher from a DIYer.
I obviously like quality materials and craftsmanship BUT after watching these videos and then researching the costs, I'm not letting MGW gouge the hell out of my wallet for an average of 300.00 PLUS tax and shipping costs AND THEN pay MGW more money for each die needed for each model of gun that I'm changing the crappy factory sights on.
Watching you push that site and actually twisted the slide and shifted so it doesn't hold it that study that's for sure. If you got to buy a special slide plate for each model gun I sure would hope that plate would hold it better than what you showed.
I watched it back again after you said this and I don't see what you are seeing at all. It didn't twist but moved slightly to the left as if he needs to tighten down those holders.
The shoe is kind of the important part. It is the primary reason that the slide does not twist in the pusher. Is it a pain to keep a stock of shoes, sure. But having pushed a bunch of sights as an FFL, this is the way to go. The first time I marked up a slide using an "economy" pusher that don't use shoes, I bought this one and never regretted it other than the initial outlay of cash.
10? I have over 60 shoes for mine ($900 investment) I have zero buyers remorse, sight changes take me minutes and almost no chance of damaging either slide or sight.
Thanks for stopping by. Make sure you leave us your comments or questions below!
thanks for sharing! very well made video, very clear, well focus (camera); much clearer now before purchase... thanks again.
Awesome review! Do they make a shoe for the H&K USP Expert? Thank you, I'll be getting one very soon.
not sure if it will fit the USP Expert... but the SP113 shoe fits HK USP/P2000/P30/P45
