Hooray! A real step-by-step instruction by someone who understands the learning process. At 84, I seem to have got the shuffle but struggling with the dance.
Most kind but I can take no credit for the years I have been allowed or the random interests that take me here and there. Your generosity is something else. YOU, sir, are the inspiration.
@@catsandkilos Thank you, sir. I shall conclude with a footnote (npi). A few years ago, an acquaintance very nearly succumbed to a heart attack on the dance floor. He is still dancing at 91. So, onwards and (eventually) upwards. Thank you again for your kind words.
I must tell you: it's much easier at the beginning if you hold the edge of a table with a hand. That way you can easily keep your balance. I practiced for an hour and now I can do the running man quite comfortably!!!!😊😊😊
Good tip Daniela. If you can comfortably do it in an hour, you are a very fast learner! Mix in the next 2 moves in this series and we'll see you on the dance floor in no time! :)
Nice 1 an hour 😲I seem to lose balance when goin thru the steps when ya supposed to learn by going slow... Then speed up when ya got the hang of it, but it might b down to my choice in music, dunna like slow music, so I want to run before I can walk 🏃🚶🏃🚶🏃🚶🏃🚶 Running man before Walking man 😁👍
Thank you for the way you teach us shuffle dance. I am 77 and my friends think I can do it! With your help I will! And I don't mind to try 10000 times😅
You're very welcome Brigitte. BTW, if that's a remotely recent picture, you don't look near 77! You have a great attitude and I have a feeling that you can definitely do it!!!
Shuffle dancing popped up in my feed. I’ve never seen it before but absolutely loved watching these young adults and kids dancing. So did a couple of searches and came across your video and to my surprise there are people in the comments my age, younger and much older who are doing this. I love dancing but don’t go out much because I’m a nurse who works shifts. This is going to be my new hobby
Thank you! I’m 14 and I’ve been wanting to shuffle for a couple days now, but I kept getting confused thankfully your video has helped me get a hang of the basics. Thank you
this is the real deal. thank you for acknowledging that the running man is physically demanding. i don't see what good it does for anyone to pretend that it's not, as other tutorials seem to do. great beginner's tutorial, it addresses doubts and really breaks down the fundamentals.
Thank you so much Wuziq - I really appreciate the feedback and your understanding of my approach. It's true isn't it - as simple as it seems, it's more taxing than it looks but, with time and effort, definitely doable. Thank you again for your kind words!
Thank you!! At 59 I’ve been watching so many clips trying to take my first steps and this is perfect and gives me confidence that I can do this!! Fun way to stay fit into my 60’s. Keep up the great work!! 💃
Thank you Shirley! Just do a little each day and you will get better and better over time - you can definitely do it! Using a martial arts metaphor - "a black belt is a white belt that never quit".
I am so glad for your intro, I was feeling stupid for not getting it straight away, all these young people are no good at teaching, they rush through it, Im 54, why I want to do this, because it is a challenge, I am slowly getting the hang of it, I take a break then have another go, somehow your mind is working on it, and I am better the next time, your video is great, you get plenty of time to so whats going on.
Thanks for the kind words Kay and good for you for taking on the challenge. You've got a great attitude and are approaching this the right way - just work on it at your own pace and you will continue to get better and better.
Thank you for this video. The instructions are broken down into parts that this old brain and body can process! I will be 70 years old in August and am bound and determined to learn to do this by that time. Thanks to the comments from those over 60, it seems it might be possible!
It will be so worth the effort. It's a lot of fun to shuffle. There are many tutorials with different steps out there. If you can do this you can do pretty much all of them. If you want something that's fun and easier, look up gangsta moves like the C-walk. Piece of cake.
I'm 50, and I'm recently trying to learn how to shuffle dance. Thank you for teaching, for those advanced in age like myself. Because I sometimes find myself trying to dance as if I'm in my 20's when I'm not. So this really helps. So healthy. Thank you.
You're welcome Evelyn, glad you found it helpful. "Advanced age" is relative though, right? You're still very young! (That's what I tell myself anyway, lol.)
Yep. I'm looking for something entertaining to keep fit. I'm 80 now always dancing into my late fifties. And keeping fit in my later years.2 knee replacement in my 70s. And walking is boring me. Pick the RIGHT MUSIC and I think I can make a comeback 🎉😂. Love the videos of younger people doing it. 👍👍👍
Ive followed several channels and couldn’t “get” this. (Yes, I’m very old.). But as soon as you said “imagine a line”, it finally made sense. Thank you!😊
Well done dude, I've always loved jazz, swing specially, I found all those kids dancing like they were made of rubber or so, this rhythm and the moves incite me to start trying to dance this music, I'm too in my middle 50's and have many preconception about starting, but you have encouraged me to give a try, thanks.
I'll be 59 this September 2023. I will know this before then. If an eighty year old man and a three year old boy can learn it, so can I...I'm in the range! Mind you, I gotta watch this at 0.5× speed. 😂
You can do it Kelly! Do it at your birthday party! Also, starting now, just think what you'll be able to do at your 80th birthday party with 21 years of practice under your belt, lol.
This tutorial worked well for me. I now understand the process and can do the step. I liked the way you split this dance step into two separate sections and then showed the joining motion. Really made sense. 👍🏻😁
This is GREAT! I’m starting this today. Best part of the video (besides his great instructions) is as he hops, the sound of the mic jumping on his sweatshirt sounds like his knees/hip/joints are cracking! Boy, can I relate 😂! Thanks for the vid… keep making these!
I am about to turn 51 this year, and never really danced in my life... until one of my buddies during deployment got me to do the Floss to kill time. 😅 One thing led to another and now Im learning how to Shuffle! If nothing else, this is a great workout with music. Sorry, but I'll pick this over the boring treadmill anytime. 😂
I love that you've shown how to do this for older folks; it's easy to get frustrated when trying to learn complex gross motor skills like this as one gets older, because our brains just don't make new neural connections with motor learning as quickly or as efficiently as they did when we were in our 30's and earlier. This video popped up on my feed, maybe because I've watched those clips of all the younger kids learning and doing shuffle dancing at a high level, and I envy them - I wish RUclips had been around when I was in high school and college! I'm 57, and took up jump rope coming up on 4 years ago in Dec. It took me significantly longer to learn and master even "basic" skills like running crossovers, and some footwork drills. But, as you correctly point out, starting with basics, repeating them over and over, and gradually building on them, gets the job done. I started teaching myself running man for jumping rope some time back, and while it's still a bit awkward, I can do it. Time will smooth it out. For jumping rope, it's a combination of a front/back straddle, and a high knee. The addition of a rope to jump over makes it even more challenging to learn, and of course, one must practice the steps first without the rope. At this point, I can only do them in a forward position; my goal is to do them in reverse as well. My most coveted freestyle tricks are the mic release, which I can now do without stopping, toad and leg over crosses, and the EB swing. And, I've often told friends the same thing: "If I can learn/do it, pretty much anyone can!" We GenX'ers may be getting older, but that doesn't mean we need to shove off into the rocking chairs, and channels like yours will no doubt inspire others. Keep it up; I'll look forward to watching more of your videos.
Great post Sonya and good for you for sticking with the rope jumping! I'm sure that also makes this running man version so much easier to master. Thank you for the kind words about our channel; however, I think your story is just as inspiring! I agree, we don't need to shove off into the rocking chairs, lol.
Awesome! Where were you in the 90s when I was clubbing and trying to figure this move out when I was in my 20s,😁. Now I'll make it my goal to master it in my 50s. 😆
This is great, lots of repetitions. I have to go very slowly so my knees don't seize up from the hopping which they're not used to doing. You've explained it very well.
55 hear and not super coordinated - so already a strike against me the few times I tried to learn to Shuffle, so I gave up. This really breaks it down to the elemental parts and I'm going to give it another try - thank you!!!
You can do it Amy, believe me - my wife will vouch for me when I say I used to be the worst dancer ever (or at least close); this is just a skill like any other that you can learn. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a small part of your journey! 💕
After looking up pedagogical, I have to say thanks John, I appreciate it! :) Also, great to hear about you being a 77 year old tango dancer - so inspirational, good for you!
61 here 👋🏼. I “graduated” from hospice 3 x’s now and I want so badly to learn this! My body craves the movement and my heart needs the joy. You are an excellent instructor…thank you!!! Wish me luck. 🥹❤😁
Thank you for that post Leann; I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through hard times but I'm very glad that you are doing so much better. I wish you the very best of luck and a heart full of joy (truly). You can do it!!
Hello Cats and Kilos, i am 61 years old last April. Yesterday, Monday 5 th June I watch your video; you showed us how to do the Running Man. And yesterday I tried some initial steps and I sweat . I find it cool to learn this running man thing. Yes I have subscribed your channel. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I really appreciate and value this fun activity to help me in keeping fit and get involved in it.
Good for you for trying something challenging and new Z. J., I'm glad you liked it. Also, thank you for subscribing and for the kind words. Have a great day!!!
TY this was a big help, 56 and I am going to be a shuffling grandfather to inpress the little ones to get them active!!!!! JUST SAYING BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE!!! Ty you old fart, keep it dancing
Good my friend. I learned shuffle dance at age 43 & you affter 50, killin it. Keep shufflin my friend. One piece of advice: warn up prior to dance / workouts
Thank you so much for giving this easy to follow instructions . I will start slowly with my age 64, and someday I’ll get it right with speed. Well, just to think I might be able to dance Brother Louie with these steps already put laugh on my face 😅
You just put a smile on my face too - you are very welcome, take your time with it and you'll be dancing Brother Louie before you know it! Best of luck!!
Glad you liked it! After learning each move, I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos in this series as well - I think you'll find these moves work well together. Have fun! :)
That would have probably been good to include at the beginning of the vid. You can see me doing a little of that in some of the other vids on the shuffle dance playlist on this channel (thank you for your interest!). I see another vid coming, lol! :)
Hi , update on my dance moves I've only been practising like very time I'm in my kitchen and I've got it !!! Thanks so much on your teaching technique ! 🙏💖🎶🤸🎉🌠💃
Good for you Over-da-Hill - sounds like you have a great marriage (nice name too). You many also want to check out the part 2 video - Modified Charleston - for more "foot moves" that I think you'll like and can combine with this one. Have fun!
You make it look sooooooo simple. Biggest hurdle for me is to coordinate the jumping forward bit and at the same time placing the other leg backward. No way around it but practice. practice, practice...and hope it pays off.
It will pay off Michael! Just picture a couple of footprints on the floor where your feet will land and land on those footprints. (And yes, practice, practice, practice!) You can do it!
Also, think about jumping more up instead of forward (like jumping rope) - this will make it easier for one foot to go forward while the other goes back simultaneously. Hope this helps.
Thanks Kristina. Yes, this is a little higher impact than may be advisable for some. Maybe a couple of the other moves on our shuffle playlist may work for you? Stay safe and have a great day!
I'm almost 35, but all these lessons are just: "do it like this" - and it starts to go crazy. I began to comprehend, and understood the algorithm, but muscle memory needs to be trained. Bruce Lee was right, or whoever wrote that quote. When you learn the basic movements to perfection, it will pave the way for improvisation.
You are right Artemisia - that's what our approach is all about - only 3 key moves - get great at these and you can easily and smoothly improvise. I hope you are enjoying the journey.
I always thought tap dancing was so cool to watach so I got a pair of tap shoes and took some group lessons and got a DVD and I can get along good tapping to jazz standards. I'm now 75.
HEY!!!!😊I love this tutorial!!! Can't be better than this!!! Great way to do gym having fun!! I had three joint replacements and I am a bionic woman and now I am going to dance like a crazy!!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Great attitude Jamie Sommers (Daniela) - it really is a lot of fun as you already know. Be sure your doctors are ok with you doing the the higher impact movements (some joint replacement surgeons have varying opinions on this). The next couple of videos (modified Charleston and T-step) are a little lower impact and also great moves that you can combine. Thank you for your nice comment. Have fun!!!
I have just come across the shuffle dance and would love to learn it. At 54 I am a ex dancer but due to fibromyalgia have not been very active over the last 10 years. I miss my dancing so much and when I saw all the youngsters doing the shuffle I was wondering what was the eldest age of people doing it. I have seen some teaching videos and have started to learn. But wow I am really unfit and struggling. 😂 But seeing your video and so many of the comments I have given me great hope that I will eventually with lots of practicing and patience get it. Thank you.
You're very welcome and good for you for challenging yourself Tracy! Sorry to hear about the fibromyalgia but glad that you are able to finally start being more active now. Just be patient with it and I'm sure you will master it!
I though I was the only one past 60 wanting to learn this. Nice to know I'm not alone.
You're not alone Shadow and good for you, you can do it!
I'm also 60 and this teacher is the only one I could follow. I discovered him today. To celebrate!
I'm right there with ya
I'm 71 and will try to learn it. It looks so fun!!
59 and Iwant to learn.
I'm 66 and have finally mastered the shuffle. It took me about 3 months and I even practiced in my sleep. lol
GOOD FOR YOU MARSHALL! Persistence pays off - very motivating. Great job!

@@catsandkilos Thank you for the encouraging words! :)
DUUUDE! Best tutorial for me to figure this out.
Glad it helped!!!
excellent pedagogical approach. 77-year old tango dancer.
After looking up pedagogical, I have to say thanks John, I appreciate it! :) Also, great to hear about you being a 77 year old tango dancer - so inspirational, good for you!

🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Well, I'm NOT telling my age, but I love this type of dancing. It looks so fun and ALIVE.
It really is. As far as your age, since I believe a lot is related to our outlook on life, you sound pretty young!
Outstanding! - I think you've cracked it! - definitely bookmarking this one - nice work!
Thanks Dan, I appreciate it!
I'm glad you added a note about what was making that clicking noise. It sounds like me before I got my new hip! :)
Somebody else thought it was my knee, lol. Hope your hip is working amazing for you! :)
Thank you very much! Very well taught!

Go for it Dianne, you can do it! :)
Thank you, sir. I always wanted to do this, now I will learn.
You're very welcome Nav, you got this! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your journey!
Best explanation ever, thanks
Glad you liked it! After learning each move, I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos in this series as well - I think you'll find these moves work well together. Have fun! :)
Specialize. I'd really like to see this man dancing it naturally-- both at the beginning and the end
That would have probably been good to include at the beginning of the vid. You can see me doing a little of that in some of the other vids on the shuffle dance playlist on this channel (thank you for your interest!). I see another vid coming, lol! :)
@ Thanks I'll check it out. This video is helpful thank you
Thanks going to practise you seem like the best teacher out there !💖
Thanks so much Lena! I think you'll have a lot of fun with it. Have a great day!
Hi , update on my dance moves I've only been practising like very time I'm in my kitchen and I've got it !!! Thanks so much on your teaching technique ! 🙏💖🎶🤸🎉🌠💃
Great to hear that Lena - good for you!!! Thank you so much for the update!
Thank you so much! I get it now!!! Great tutorial !!!
Awesome, I'm glad you found it helpful and thank YOU for the nice comment! : )
Great demonstration! This should be a great bone-building exercise, too.
Thanks Vicki and as far as bone building, I think this type of exercise would be great for that!
Trying to learn different dance ( foot moves) just to surprise my hubs in my dance workout🎉 I’m his entertainment for 35 years!
Good for you Over-da-Hill - sounds like you have a great marriage (nice name too). You many also want to check out the part 2 video - Modified Charleston - for more "foot moves" that I think you'll like and can combine with this one. Have fun!
Beautifully done sir!
Thanks Uddi, I really appreciate it!
Thanks I'm 59 and awesome ❤
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it and hope you have a lot of fun with it! :)
Yeah the lesson was great too. It can be so hard to see what's going on, but you break it down brilliantly
You Rock!!!! Whoop Whooop!!!! Heck yeah buddy!
Lol, thanks Meli, YOU rock!!! : )
Really easy instruction to practice.
Thanks Rani, glad you found it useful. : )
Thanks for showing us how to do this!
You're very welcome, hope you found it helpful! : )
Nice set of instructions. My husband and I do love to dance but this move would not be advisable for me.
Thanks Kristina. Yes, this is a little higher impact than may be advisable for some. Maybe a couple of the other moves on our shuffle playlist may work for you? Stay safe and have a great day!
Thank you 😎
You're very welcome Kirsty.👍
thank you sir. love it,
You're very welcome, thank YOU!
Great video, thanks from Berlin.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Not danced in many years. Ima try this. ✨🙏✨💃🏼
Do it hArty! You'll have a great time! :)

Super. I thanks❤
You're very welcome Pattricia, glad you liked it!
I’m learning how too!
Ken in Hawaii- 67 years old
Nice job Ken! Aloha!
it may be the easiest way to learn but you explain it the hardest way. just get to it man
Read the other comments Doogan, it seems most disagree with you.
So good! Super Tutorial! 👍👍
Thank you so much - glad you liked it!
i subscribe. i'm 54 and i always wanted to know how to shuffle 👍 you are great...
Thanks for subscribing Alex and thank you for the kind words. YOU are great!
I am 66 and this is just perfect. Thanks
You're very welcome Alan, thank you for the nice feedback. :)
I always thought tap dancing was so cool to watach so I got a pair of tap shoes and took some group lessons and got a DVD and I can get along good tapping to jazz standards. I'm now 75.
Steve, I love stories like yours - people like you are so inspirational! Thanks for posting!
Thank you for this!
You're very welcome Hairball - glad you liked it!
I’m 50
And only in the last few weeks , started to watch short shuffle dance vids
And they blew my mind
Was like watching magic lol
I know what you mean, I thought the same thing when I was first exposed to this.
Great, I think I could learn it, thank you from germany, 60 years old.😉
You're very welcome Ute and I know you can do it young man!
Have fun!!!
@@catsandkilos 🤔🙄😏😁🤩🤩
Now im getting the hang of it
Nice. :)
if i get a dwi and walk the line i wil try this
LOL - If I was the cop and you did that I'd let you off!
