I don't mind remix edition like what Atlus did. what I mind is timing. I think this announcement should have came prior to Western Ys X release. I get the Japanese version was out for awhile but as a recent customer who supported Falcom by purchasing Ys X Western version early I feel a little scammed, this will just make me reconsider picking up Falcom games in the future day one.
Yes, the Proud Nordics announcement coming prior to the Nordics worldwide release would have been a better way to handle this. That way, worldwide customers could have chosen to wait.
This really does bother me too. I bought the limited/premium edition of Ys X. Will this version also offer that as a physical? Will this version even have a physical? If there is a limited edition, i’ll really feel slapped in the face.
I actually disagree. If the Proud version has no limited version, there was at least a reason to buy the premium initially, for the other cool pack-ins. But the regular version of X would be completely obsolete in that scenario.
For sure. I just mean the overall experience of the game itself as packaged in any current version of Nordics (standard, deluxe, premium, physical, digital) will become obsolesced by Proud Nordics. In terms of the collector's perks of the premium physical edition, those will remain. In fact, it may even grow in value, since it's a first edition.
Dragon Quest XI did this, too. The original version of the game came out in 2017, only on playstation 4 and PC. Then they came out with a new version with some extra features, like being able to play through the game in a 16-bit mode. That version was exclusive to the Switch in 2019, until it finally released to the PC and other consoles in 2020 But here's the kicker: the steam version of DQ XI S (the expanded version) is just a direct port of the Switch version, which is to say it's a graphical downgrade compared to the previous Steam release. And on top of that, you can no longer buy the original version of the game. So the original version with the nicer graphics is only available to you if you bought it between 2017 and 2020, but if you own the original and want the new version with the new features, there is no upgrade option. You have to just buy it again.
@@donb6897Same. All it does is make me wait for a long time for the new version to be cheap enough that buying it again isn't much more than an upgrade might have cost.
Yeah, I’m glad you mentioned DQXI because-in terms of scheduling-it’s an even WORSE example, the only worse example I’m aware of. DQXI’s worldwide release on PS4/PC was on September 4, 2018. XI S was announced in Japan as a Switch exclusive on September 13, 2018. TWO WEEKS LATER! It could be that Proud Nordics will be a Switch 2 exclusive, or maybe a Switch 1 exclusive with a free Switch 2 upgrade. That would soften the blow a bit, but regardless, companies really need to figure out these timing issues.
I saw this. I'm a little disappointed if I am honest. If they were going to do this why not just dlc in either a extra arc or just new game plus mode. Or just wait to do what they actually wanted to do. I deffo learned from atlus to not get their games at first. I can't wait to do this with a falcon game too.
@cyxceven545 I've no problem with another definitive edition but so close after it's English date ... Not the best move if am honest. I feel if they were going to do that they should have waited and done a definitive edition instead for English.
Yeah, I think the key here is that it should be an available upgrade for supporters of the worldwide release. This is tricky because so many Falcom supporters buy physical, but this is their problem to solve. It may be a Switch 2 exclusive for a while, but I think it will eventually come out for other platforms. When it does, that will be the time to offer Proud Nordics to Nordics supporters.
Yeah...I spent $100 on the CE version of Ys X and haven't even been able to start it yet. Now I feel it would be stupid to play it but I also know it will likely be another 2 years by the time the new version gets a worldwide release, so I am stuck in a conundrum..
I opened mine, the CE. Even the stuffed dolls and keychains. Spent 90 hours on it. Hope the save files are transferable between Switch 1 and Switch 2 and that all DLC are included (didn't buy any yet). P.S. Hope they correct the pacing at the end in which they felt rushed (got tons of affinity stars without doing much, then zero ship battle afterwards). Also the control physics of the Sandra and Mana Board, hate fighting with the control. Native 2-players coop whether on the same screen and at least a local wireless coop. Plus those who have the two cartridges, the first cartridge gets a free update, so you can play local wireless.
Given the close proximity of the announcement to the base games worldwide release, I would’ve rather they just held off on a western release and put the resources into doing a day one worldwide release for Proud instead. Waiting until just after the base game released worldwide to talk about the rerelease looks like a cash grab.
@@PestulonGaming well, its a good fact, but its still like 10% of the sales on ps3 instead of ps4. So like, it just demonstrate how sales were high back then compare to today
Of course. I haven’t started Nordics yet (and I’m not sure I will), but I can’t imagine how much more frustrated I would be if I were like 80% finished with the game. Here’s hoping there’s some way to carry progress, but I don’t expect that.
I've been playing through Ys X, and loving it, and then I heard this statement. I have lost absolutely all desire to play Ys X, and have not touched it since. I just don't care. The same thing happened with atlus, where I ended up blacklisting the company because I got so sick and tired of a better version coming out like a year later or less. If you have a better version of a game come out, and I bought the base version, I'm done. I just don't care.
Personally I'm a bit behind on Ys so this doesn't affect me because I never bought the first version yet and I'll just skip it, but yeah this should have been DLC and it looks really bad.
I can understand that they don't have the resources to do world wide releases but holy cow is this some BS. No way this shouldn't be a a upgrade option for existing owners. No good reason for that not to exist. It's really worse than that though because they had to have been working on this since the original release maybe even beforehand. Why even release the vanilla version worldwide at that point might as well have scrapped it for the Proud version just BS all around and they are taking advantage of their fans because they know these games are niche and the people that play them are far more likely to re buy than most other consumers. The double dip is intentional not some accident that they couldn't avoid.
I was really pissed at falcom when I saw the ps5 version of ys 8 with no new content and few new upgrades was full price with no way ro upgrade from the ps4 vesion at all.
Yeah, this also bugged me, but this is pretty common for PS5. It’s common for upgrades of PS4 games to be unavailable to PS5 owners. (Not saying that’s a good thing, but it’s certainly not just a Falcom thing.)
@PestulonGaming Not really that common though, most games I know have either a free or paid upgrade to ps5. I can't think of another one that doesn't even have it besides maybe that until dawn remake no one asked for lmao
It's better to have more copies than none at all. I''ve been trying to Daybreak at some local retailer but, nobody has it. I can only find it on Amazon
Physical copies of Falcom games are hard to find for me and I don’t have the time or money to hunt for physical copies of hard-to-find games anymore or buy them day one. Falcom kinda falls under that category of “I’ll buy it digitally if I can’t get a physical copy” for me. I buy physical whenever I can, but rarely for more niche JRPGs. It sucks, but it’s a bridge I’ll cross when I get to it.
The father of ys. Who made every game suddenly dies and like a few days later they announced proud Nordics?! Someone gunning for his job or wanted to take game in different direction than intended. That's how it feels. Cuz this is not a tribute 😔
Yeah. I fell for the Ys X fomo. This is a slap in the face to fans, and a disappointing move from Falcom. They immediately obsoleted the original physical version for no reason. Hope the upgrade only requires a patch or DLC.
My prediction would be that Proud Nordics will be a separate retail listing. I don’t expect progress to carry over. If they can find a way to heavily discount Proud Nordics to Nordics owners, they absolutely should. But yeah, ideally it could just exist as DLC to build on your Nordics progress.
Ys is my favorite RPG. Im trying to get my wife and kids to call me "Adol" they wont..thats besides the point. Im playing Ys X now. This news blows. Should be DLC. It hopefully changes...the sales will suffer for sure.
@AM-mx1du I tell my son, "I'm Adol". He lost all respect for me. Although.. he did get me Ys X for Christmas. He knows I love the series. I just wish, and I look all the time for an Ys 1 release on Switch. We got that horrible PC-88 version..very disappointed.
I waited years (since beating Ys IX) to play Ys X. I waited for the english release of Ys X for over a year! I dont regret my purchase, I had a blast with the game. This new version is coming out sometime next year, dont know when, in japan. That doesnt mean crap to me since i dont know japanese. Will i have to wait until 2026 to play the english version? In that case, I dont mind buying it again. I bought DQ11 like 3 times! Im not rich, but i do want to help push for more DQ and Ys in the west. What can i say? Im a dirty fanboy
idk if you can call it the same thing because at least with stuff like Royal and vengeance there was a lot of content added and like mentioned in the video the game went multiplatform with the newer versions. Also the time gap was generally years from the original release so it made a lot more sense. This may not even add much it seems and is so close to the original release in the west. Sometimes the re release can make sense but it doesn't here at all.
As much as I wanna agree with you unfortunately I think it's too late. Like we're getting this game a year after the fact. So at best we can hope they don't go this route anymore.
My hope is that it’s not too late, and customer discourse will be so overwhelming that Falcom backtracks. That backtracking could simply be offering Proud Nordics for cheaper, or maybe building in a way to carry progress from Nordics. There are many ways to soften the blow.
Japan tends to do this, meaning releasing an improved edition and as they are into the physical media they only sometimes do it as a dlc. Hopefully they make it downloadable for the western territory.
Isso é horrível, eu vou acabar reclamando no X nos 3 exemplos, SMT5, Persona e agora o YS X. Falcom is definitely not the kind of publisher I thought I'd ever have to say "oh, Falcom? I'll wait a year." Like I do after Atlus went full fomo.
Agreed, and hopefully, they will not make this a pattern.
