Great video it answered most of the questions I had. The only nit I have is you saying the Zelda games haven’t had a jump button in years (@3:26). BoTW, TotK, and Echoes of Wisdom, the last 3 Zelda games that weren’t remakes, all had a dedicated jump button.
6:35 I'm guessing you mean with the exception of Ys Origin, as it doesn't have Adol or Dogi (due to taking place hundreds of years before the first Ys games) and it is a great Ys game.
did you know? back in long long ago when Ys falghana came out in psp where theres zero translated EN version of this game, the fans team up all over the world not just translate the whole thing but also included an actual English DUB . each of the NPC character has they own Dub and the dub make with huge passion , so much you be more amaze how different it was compare to latest remake (it doesnt has dub to all ). the only down fall is the armour doesnt swap design when you get Higher rank armour due to PSP limited cut compare to the original, but the gameplay never was effected so it was worth it. The best part is when you meet ur rival the blonded hair man , he has a crazy angry Dub Voice acting . It was so good , lots of people instantly became hook up with YS . But i heard that thanks to this project the YS series author found out that the Western players actually love they series and since then they started making eng subtitle after new series came out.
Yeah I decided to play through Origins a while back and I'm having a lot of fun with that although I completely forgot that this game came out too. Definitely willing to pick this game up at some point down the road and for once I am glad that it still remains in the exact same format as how an old school game should but it isn't too overtly long. That's something that I feel that we've been needing for quite some time now just R PG's that don't last several thousands of hours just to complete when you just only need a few hours. Although every time I see a game that has a you can change the difficulty when you die a certain amount of times it always reminds me way too much of when capcom did it to the point where now it's called you wanna go into baby mode because you can't beat the game in the current difficulty here you go lol. Regardless glad that this type of game exists in this day and age and a good quick review alex!
nice review Alex! i started ys 7 a few months back so im going to finish that before oath in Felghana. both games are pretty similar in that they give off that old school style jrpg feel , but you know what? i'm down for the challenge! its ys and i need to see why people hold both these games in high regard as some of the best ones.
I play the PSP/vita version once a year at least, it makes me happy and is a game that is a super nice break from those games that want me to play for weeks or months on end.
Amazing review and so excited ceremony on the general stages to it so spectacular and a Huge game waiting to play as well liked your thoughts on game development I hope play it someday and very cool
I pre-ordered this from Amazon back in October, but it says it'll be another 2 weeks until it arrives at my door. So, looks like preordering didn't end up helping me get this ASAP. 😅
Thanks for the review!! I was wondering if this game would be for me, rather than finishing the Trails games I have in my backlog… I can see why it would appeal to a lot of people, but I don’t think the simplified story/combat/design is for me. Great, succinct video though 👍🏽
I'm not usually into old adventure rpg, but I'm wiling to give a try to Ys modern era but I can't find a consensus if Dana is better then Monstrum, I end dropping a lot of old rpgs for being too outside of my standard design tho
What do you mean by 'your standard of design'? This game was made 20 years ago so consider that when you think of what you want your games to have. If you need a minimap and a quest log to always keep track of where you're going, then this won't be for you.
Origin is super good. From a fan that's played all the modern steam released titles, I think it's a great starting point if you're willing to not start with adol. However, remember that to see all the content you'll have to beat the game 3 whole times. This sounds daunting, but the tower is really well designed and doesn't get boring.
@@nashptv 8, oath, and x are my starting recs. The only games in the series I think are bad to start with are 2, 7, and 9. Not because these games are bad at all, but they spoil story elements from previous games.
I'm a bit surprised that you didn't mention the blatant greed that the only way to buy a physical copy of the game is to buy the "day 1 refined edition" that's twice the price. And this is shortly after announcing a new edition of Ys X with additional content...
I feel like Ys X is over encumbered with gameplay mechanics and button combos. I preferred playing through Oath in Felghana, because of its focus on pure fun gameplay.
@@Gryzor88 if you play ark of napishtim, play on the hardest difficulty so you can buy stat boosting items in the store, I played on regular and I'm struggling on the final boss and grinding is taking forever 😭
Best Ys in the series. Soon as I played it I knew it was one of my favorite series. Played all of them since. Except for Nordics. Not so hot on the new games.
Great review, Alex!!! I am very tempted to get this. It just looks short and sweet and super fun!

Thanks for that. Honestly, I don’t remember ever using them. All I’ve remembered is mostly climbing and not much else lol

You must mean the original PC version (the 2005 version) since the PSP version released in 2011 or so) had voice acting when that released in the west

how is this different to the PC version thats been out for years
It's the game that got me into the series.
And I can finally get it in physical form. (I didn't have a PSP)
ah yes it's the game that got me into the series. And i can play every version of this game in my genesis, snes, nes emulator, turbografx cd

Just played it for the first time myself and it was fantastic

I found this game extremely hard actually 😅 I actually gave up because it felt like I had to grind for every boss, and even then it was SWEATY
Are you referring to the Switch release or the earlier releases?
@bcg407 the earlier releases (like what was on steam before this release). From my understanding, this new release didn't change the difficulty
I played it on the psp. It’s very aggressive a floatly
Daaamn expensive for such an old game.

I'm currently playing it and I agree. I also don't care for the characters or setting. To be honest, I may end up dropping it.
