Dude, this is awesome! I'm just getting started in this cleaning and I have seen immaculate stuff but seeing other people talk about it is great for learning. TY
I honestly don't care about restoration, I just care about the label. I think especially golden age books should be taken care of and restored. Cool video, subscribing.
This is a sincere question. Why do you care about the CGC label? If you are an investor selling a high value book to another investor then they should be cracking the case to confirm what is inside. This is what any high end art collector does during a purchase. And it is already shown that CGC misses restoration and conservation work done to a book. This is not a dig on CGC. It is a dig on the collecting community for dividing the world into encased and raw.
Appreciate the shout-out, I am grateful and humbled by this and I hope you continue to strive toward perfecting your skills. If you ever have any questions do not hesitate to ask. Big John
Great work . I have been practicing this method as well been cleaning and pressing for few years now but this method is a game changer . I don’t believe it’s restoring either just advanced form of cleaning
40% concentrate but lately im finding just straight 3% works like youd use for first aid. The really strong stuff i think is better at very heavy or certain types of foxing
From my understanding takes Way longer, days possibly. And I also think there are different species of organic growth aka foxing. I’ve seen certain types on books that is extremely hard, almost impossible to get rid of even with peroxide.
@@paperchasecomics I really hope you were not using 40 percent peroxide without gloves. You were likely using 40 factor peroxide like Big John, which is really 24 percent straight from the bottle. The salon supply places like the 40 number as a marketing factor.
That is awesome congratulations - however I'm not sure if we're sure about the long-term effects might be. After all, it's a possibility that you may have accelerated the aging process on a molecular level
Very true, we cant say for sure 🤷🏻♂️ Be a good question for immaculate comics on youtube. I feel like one treatment then straight to encapsulation couldnt be any more harmful than no treatment and never protected. So i think if you are going to buy a book like this best be in a slab which slows down the aging process period. I mean some books never see the proper protection and exist in terrible environments for decades. Its give and take, books are overall better kept now, so would this really harm the books “lifespan” if properly protected by todays standards? Just some thoughts. Very interesting though!
@@paperchasecomics You can buy a case similar to the grading companies that can be opened and closed if protection is you primarily goal. The rating CGC gave the book the moment before it was encased is just that. A moment. If CGC was really in the business of preserving books there would be buffering paper between all the pages and a velvet bag/cover with each case. 50 years from now the case will say 9.8 on the outside. But is the comic still a 9.8?
@@michaelmayrend313 good question. Maybe not, considering even many press jobs may revert in the case after some years pass. UV protected cases would be nice. I think its still a service that needs evolving and probably will as time goes on.
Forgot to say any work to a comic book to make it look better is classed as restoration in my book. But that's all power to you to get a better grade . If cgc do not pick up on what you did to a book is down to the graders. Please take the time to go watch and sub up Jerry the jitterbug he does some amazing work on books you would find his videos interesting .
Thanks man. Everything bought on Amazon. The black light strips go out so i just stick with the two headed uv lamp Search magnetic gift box . 12.9 x 9.8x4.7 Thats box i got Also adhesive mirror strips/ peel and stick. Thats it 🤷🏻♂️
Is it really restoration though, if I buy an antique cupboard and clean it with polish or something else, it would not be classed as restoration. You're just removing something that should not be there, so you're not adding to it to make it look better than it is, you're just taking something away that is not meant to be there?

Is "FOXING" just another word for light stainings??
I thought foxing was when the spine corners get fuzzy...??
Finding is an organic growth on paper
@paperchasecomics what does a FOX have to do with the name origin?!??
Why not call it "Cating" or "Skunking" or "hamstering"???

Thank you my man. Best wishes to you and your family.
Same here! Thanks!!

Completely agree. Advanced form of cleaning. Thanks so much for checking it out
Congrats on the book
Many thanks!
Pretty good grade for so many spine ticks.
Absolutely
just curious what kind of peroxide do you use and do you mix it with water? thanks
40% concentrate but lately im finding just straight 3% works like youd use for first aid. The really strong stuff i think is better at very heavy or certain types of foxing
UV sterilizer light works pretty good I'm getting pretty good at removing foxing and Sun shadowing.. no way cgc would ever be able to tell.
Nice! #AdvancedCleaning for the win!
Anyone know what happens if you just use the UV light without the peroxide, would it still remove the foxing?

thanks@@paperchasecomics
Wow this was a great outcome. What was the mixture for the hydrogen peroxide mix?
It was a 40% concentration h202
mixed in that bottle I was using. 20/80 peroxide to water
@@paperchasecomics thanks a lot for the info I have been looking for somthing to help reduce stains and foxing. 👍

Sometimes depending on severity
What did the CGC notes say?
Light spine stress lines to cover.
I love your uv box 📦 ...I want your uv box 📦....help a cleaning / pressing bro out..diagram/components..peace out
