      As a question. Is it possible to press a comic that has a hand drawn sketch in marker on the cover? Would you advise doing so?

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@originaljk555 I’ve actually never done it, but I would think it is possible as long as you don’t use any moisture humidity and relatively low heat 135 to 140 max on the book. Of course can’t guarantee Press it your own risk. That’s just my thoughts on it.

    How do you address the spine roll and reset the spine and staples? Is it just by the magazine board at the centerfold?

    • @gabrielbruzzi1962
      @gabrielbruzzi1962 16 дней назад

      I open the comic at center and press it and then reclose it correctly and press. You can steam it first . Small amount of water helps takes creases out better. Just the heat may not do that good. Very light steamer or mist bottle! Less is better. Test on cheap comics to learn. also set heat to 150 at most and time varies. 15 mins to 30mns , flip at 15 mins. to get both back n front sides. Amazing results. I clean lightly and carefully. Lastly make sure when pressing that book that the corners are not bent so not to add a CREASE. did that other day. Get lazy at times. ! Good luck!

    Great video. Really informative. Thank you!!! I've been watching a lot of these before I jump into this part of my collecting journey. Quick question -- most videos I've seen, start the cleaning process with a makeup remover pad to get rid of the most obvious surface dirt first, then they jump into the absorine eraser thing... I noticed you didn't. Is there a reason for not doing it? Also how much pressure do you use with the absorbing thing? All the videos show this step from the top so its hard to see how much pressure you're using on the book.

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  Год назад

      Thanks for the feedback
      Ive never really seen the need to start with the pad. The absorene sponge if you start light pressure and gradually ad more pressure will do the job. Of course you dont want to put too much pressure. Light to moderate pressure will do the job.

    Does this work on Playboys? It's got some stains and some of the pages are stuck together

  • @gabrielbruzzi1962
    @gabrielbruzzi1962 16 дней назад

    Paper is TEFLON sheets or rolls to cut to the size you want. They comes in brown or white. not sure the difference. I only ever got brown. Can you steam the creases lightly, saw a video a few years ago and they used steam. ?

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  16 дней назад

      Teflon sheets, pre cut from amazon. Brown. White may be wax paper
      I use steam when the book is structurally more sound, the staple tares were too risky for this one. Steam is often used.

    I'm brand new to this, have watched about 5-10 vids on cleaning and pressing and so far yours is the best. Question; I'm wondering if replacing staples can be done. It's my understanding if they see you tried to remove rust they call it restored. I collect Sports Illustrated/sport mags in case there's any difference you know of. Thanks

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  9 месяцев назад

      Replacing staples can absolutely be done. And yes, if they suspect that you replace the staples, they will call out restoration. Immaculate comics makes some tools that helps remove and reinstall them to limit detection. Their link is in the description of this video.

    Great video ! What you recommend if the comic comes out a little wavy afterwards ?

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  Год назад

      Thanks. Depends on the type of waves and year of book, but typically will call for an immediate standard press. I would let anything sit too long if it gets wavy. Could also be the book needs to be introduced to the HOT press quicker. If you to long of a dwell time after adding humidity this can cause a waviness on newer books

    • @GladwellInvestments
      @GladwellInvestments Год назад

      @@paperchasecomics thank for getting back to me. I’m typically pretty good with getting heat on the book after I use humidity right away. Books I’ve been pressing have been 80s-early 90s so nothing too new. How much pressure would you recommend using ? I know I shouldn’t be smashing it down

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  Год назад

      @@GladwellInvestments i just go by feel since each book is different, i slowly press the clamp down and if I feel like im having to exert too much force i just loosen the pressure and try again. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 soft tries before it feels right.
