    Did you improve it a lot? Yes. .I would argue that before, it was beyond collectible. If I saw it for $1-2, I would maybe buy it. Even then, I would have to store away from all my other books so really, I would have left it.
    Now? I would maybe pay $5? for it. Much nicer and as long as that mold is dead, I could store with other comics. Cool process though. Would be nicer to see on a comic with a small amount as I am sure you could turn a hurt book into a nice one if the mold amount was smaller.

I have a decent collection of Pokemon slabs in PSA 1s and 2s of some all time great cards but due to the low grades/perceived values I keep them. Every time I show someone the crystal guardians reverse charizard in a Psa 1 or any number of other cards they always want to buy them. Those are bold claims, stated as fact. It prompts some questions about how you are so certain. How do you know the mold will return? Do you even know how to determine if the colony is bioactive or not? Do you know this mold is stachybotrys chatartarum or one of the other five types of black toxic mold or is just a black-colored mold that looks dark? @@maris4137 Thats a tough question to answer. I am certain that I can do it. I am uncertain that you can do it, but you might get lucky. There's just no way to know. Be warned that I ruined a great many comic books before I got to the level of confidence I have now. I would suggest you find 100 books you don't really care to much about and practice your skills on those first. That is a good start and you will learn a lot. This is as much art as it is science and you need both.

      @@ImmaculateComics Thanks for your advice. I actually just googled a few how-to's and yeah, I think I'll try a few non-key books. I'm going to try using Hydrogen Peroxide. I hope I won't mess up. Thanks.

      @@maris4137 same here. Try 6 or 8% H2O2 if you can get it. Houshold peroxide says it’s 3% but it degrades quickly and much of it is actually around 1.8-2.25% in the bottle. Fun fact : peroxide bottles are brown because in the old days they discovered this degeneration happened more quickly in clear glass than in colored glass (photdegradation) so they started storing it in brown bottles. They use iron , sulfur, and carbon to color the glass, incidentally. So that’s why the bottles are brown. If you can’t find a higher Concentration of peroxide let me know. Be aware you can hurt yourself with it... but the pain goes away in a couple of hours. Rick@rickmorgan.net

    • @ImmaculateComics

      you can repair the rip so its nearly undetectable, but it isn't easy. It depends on the rip. just dont use tape or glue. you can dissolve some of the paper and sort of "weld" it back together.

    It’s great, but we’re only talking about the grade going from a zero to maybe a .1 or .2. Which would be a NG?? This process would only realistically be applicable to a small amount of mold on an expensive book. However, it’s still cool to see the effort.

      I was just trying to head off any misconceptions. In my own experience I can can say 6-8 times in a video “this isn’t worth the time, don’t do it for the money” and I’ll still get some comments which read “hey I don’t think this is worth the time or the money, just buy a nicer book”, which of course misses the point entirely no matter how much I repeat the same message of which they just informed me! Lol 😆 . I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

    I’m really interested in figuring out a way to mount and display individual pages of comics that are beyond repair. I have been making things out of specific panels in the comics from the dollar rack that are falling apart but some pages are so cool I can’t cut them up. I just want to find a way to bring the inside art to the outside world in a reasonable way. Any suggestions?

    • @Obsessive_Artist
      @Obsessive_Artist 2 года назад

      I wonder if you can polymerize a page. Maybe with resins. I tried with alcohol based and the page becomes somewhat translucent making the art on both sides contaminated. I tried sealing it with glue first and that works in small panels but the big ones just get too wrinkled.
