Been a Bears fan my whole life and have always loved Brett's videos. I've been avoiding sports talk for the most part this week about the game for obvious reasons. But had to watch this one though. Tough one last week
Waldron just said in a presser he has no regrets on the play call(handing off to a lineman down 5 at the one) and said he has no regrets and would call it again if he had to do it over Fire everyone
and what's so dumb is when you're a leader, even if you called the correct play, even if everyone knows you called the correct play, and absolutely knows the players screwed it up, you still go in front of the press and take blame. Sure, you give your team hell in practice and hold them accountable, but in front of everyone, even IF everyone knows you're lying, you still just take the heat because that's what a leader does, takes the heat.
I feel bad for Caleb Williams...to be stuck with this coaching staff meanwhile having to listen to the constant comparison with Jayden Daniels...say what you want about Dan Quinn, atleast he is fundamentally competent as a coach. And while I understand that Daniels is doing something very special, its still there rookie year and they both need to learn and grow sufficiently before we pass our final judgement on the two. I mean, look at cj stroud over at Houston, as great as he was his rookie year, we can see that he still needs to develop some more before he can be truly elite
The whole bit of being compared to Jayden Daniels confuses me. Sure, the highlights are pretty, but his level of play isn’t sustainable. He’s already hurt 9 weeks in, he leaves the pocket often, most times when he has a clean one and takes off instead of manipulating the defense with his arm. He’s been able to get away with some remarkable plays, but that’s thanks to Kliff Kingsbury, he’s putting on a masterclass of an OC Job this year. Since 2018 most “athlete” QBs are struggling now in this era of the league. Only one that’s truly been elite has been Lamar. I love that dude. Or Mahomes and Josh Allen. I think people need to slow the comparisons down and wait a couple of years before making judgement. Most Commanders fans wanted a trade up for Caleb, how they and other NFL fans bash him is beyond me. As if he’s supposed to transcend coaching and the structure around him which truly is sad.
@@NotNykohturn on the film and tell me Jayden isn’t playing QB at a high level while also being dynamic with his legs. Week 1 he may have been bailing from the pocket but since Week 3 he’s been incredible and this past week against the Bears was some of his best film as a pure passer. Washington fans don’t bash Caleb, we root for him because he’s a local kid. It’s been Bears fans bashing Jayden all year because they’re self-conscious about how good he’s been. No ones trying to make definitive statements 8 weeks into their careers, but trying to discredit Jayden makes no sense.
@@NotNykohDude it's clear you have a hard on for bashing Athletic QBs. Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray,Mahomes , etc have been manipulating defenses for years with their legs and they are just fine
I hate to be that guy, because this Washington game was inexcusable, BUT...... I'm almost positive Flus was ordered to play tank ball so they could better build out of the draft, which he actually did a fine job of. Now that it's time to finally play ball and we get this bs???? Unbelievable
@@garrethbolandYeah I'm convinced of that too because Luke Getsy is not a good coordinator but he COMPLETELY abandoned his good run concepts in 2023. Justin Fields designed runs was the Bears entire offense and he abandoned it
There is nothing that puts it quite in stark contrast as comparing the Bears coaching staff to the Commanders coaching staff. As someone who has lived through plenty of bad coaching staffs here in Washington, a lot of this is familiar, including firing a head coach a year after drafting a new QB. But, when you finally get a good one that actually knows how to maximize the talent they have, rather than play like they wish they had different talent that can actually run the scheme they are trying to run, it feels so much better.
Bravo...The best podcast I've seen on the ridiculous Bears coaching situation.. it was astounding that they hired flus in the first place, insane that they kept him.

Maybe you should write a letter to the management team to shed light on their obvious deficiencies. Good luck moving forward, except when y'all play us. The video was well done!
I mean they hired a Coach named Eberflus. He was bound to fail. He sounds like this coaches you forget about for 20 years and you remember him on a random night in the future “Oh shit you guys remember when we had Eberflus”
Eberflus is a great DC and motivator and the guys love him, he’s the reason why our defense has been so good…he’s also blown 4 4th quarter leads with a 90% or more win percentage in the past two years, so as a bears fan every loss ends up feeling like a kick in the nuts (And Shane Walrdron sucks again, captains need to have another meeting with him 💀)
Bears fans before the game "JD will get exposed and CW will take over as top rookie" Bears fans after the game: "we are a trash org with a stupid coach and will always fall on our face" As always, the truth is somwhere in the middle. But their rollercoaster of emotions this past week have been nothing short of spectacular
I’m probably one of the very few, if not few, only bears fan who knew this wasn’t going to be a good game. I hate the coaching and OC, thought Eberflus wasn’t the right guy since day 1. It sucks this organization can’t ever seem to get things correct top to bottom
The craziest part is that literally anyone who watched the Bears for 3 seconds the last 7 years could tell you coaching was the issue. It’s kind of amazing how only the front office can’t see it. And as much as it’s a LAYUP to hire Ben Johnson, or Vrabel, or any number of coaches that would make the Bears legitimate contenders, there is literally no evidence to make me believe the Bears will do right by Caleb and the players lol.
Wish you waited to post this, because my Cardinals just kicked their ass 29-9. Caleb Williams was sacked multiple times, the O-line was laughable, Bears defense couldn't stop run plays, and the offense couldn't get a single TD. 3 field goals is all the Bears got. They did better in their game against Washington than they did against Arizona
I wasn't shocked when they didn't clean house at the end of last season, but I was relieved, because it was like seeing the old familiar cycle repeating itself, even with the chance to draft a (supposedly) generational prospect at QB. Coaching aside, I was also mildly amused to see the Bears go WR with their second top 10 pick in a historically good offensive line draft. Odunze might be awesome some day, but you can get WRs anywhere in the first few rounds of the draft. Giving a rookie QB a guy like Fuaga to help protect him probably would have gone a helluva lot farther to developing Williams than another target who is only going to be targeted maybe 10 times a game. As a Packers fan, I can't say that I'm complaining about the outcome so far, but holy shit is it baffling to watch the Bears and the way they go about things.
Stop it. Historically good Oline draft? What? after 8 games? In a year that was widely panned as a very week draft because a ton of NFL level players were staying in school another year because of the NIL money?
They didn't have another pick until R3 after Rome, which they did spend on OT. You could hypothetically flip them and have taken Fashanu/Fuaga + Jermaine Burton/Roman Wilson/Jalen McMillan (assuming they still need a WR). Personally I think the picks they made are pretty justified, Rome was projected as a better player than either OT and through half of their rookie seasons Fuaga has a better PFF grade, Fashanu quite a bit worse. Kiran, the 3rd round OT is doing like, kinda ok for a rookie (very similar PFF grade to Fashanu). I think a lot of what the Bears management has done is questionable, but I don't think the Rome pick is really that bad, even if he is having the worst season out of all of the 1st round WR picks that didn't get shot.
The Odunze pick is probably justified in that he's a high valued known commodity. WRs hit rate from the the last decade (at least 2011 to 2021) in the top 10 of the draft is 9/14. If he he's got the size and desireable skillset (ISO ball winner, etc.) plus he'll be on a controlled cost for 5 years, that is a great investment. Day 2 receivers can hit but the Bears didn't have the draft capital to be taking players still within the top 100. I'm a little more negative on Tackle-swing tackle prospects even in the top 10 because they take time to develop (unless it was the sure deal player) and they can whiff. Even worse because the Bears interior O-line group isn't exactly set and stable either.
You didn't even mention the best part about that goal line fade. Why are you throwing it to DJ Moore and not the 6ft 3 receiver you just drafted to do exactly that
Shane Waldron Going to the Matt Canada Playbook. Speed motion into obvious wrong defenses, Gunner Olszewski sent to block DE’s on run plays… Except unlike Pittsburgh…head coach Eberflus also needs to go
@@UserName-ts3sp Understandable. But for team fanbases who have yet to sniff a consistent playoff run with a HC who can do more with less like Tomlin (especially on offense), they can only dream of being in such a scenario.
8:01 the next time you name off some of the best quarterbacks in the league I expect to hear Jared Goff, Lions. The team you’re discussing here is the lions circa Calvin J-son. Great cast, bad coaching.
You nailed it, the play of the game was 1st down on one yard line, 40 seconds with 3 timeouts. They stop the clock with a fade pass. That was the game and nobody has talked about that but you.
The only ray of hope and why this time is different is that if we make a change at HC, Caleb is legit enough to deal with it and succeed. Comparing him to Trubisky and Fields is unfair. He is light years ahead of both of them in the ability to process things mentally on the field.
Well said. Well done once again Brett. I wish I wasn’t SO biased so I could have actually watched the game tape instead of burying my head in a hole for a week. Everything you said is SPOT ON. Love your content.
Born ans raised on the north end of I-43. Always loved the rivalry. Always had some sort of respect for the Bears. Some of my first football memories is the 85 bears winning it all. (Yeah, sorry about that Jim McMahon thing) I finally got to go see a game in Chicago last season. I was honestly feeling bad for the fans by the end of the game. I was hoping to see a good game and the Bears we're just depressing. I may have been sworn at a few times leaving the stadium, but I do remember the 80s and what it was like to be rooting for a stagnant organization.
I appreciate your efforts to save the Bears with this video. I have not bet on the Bears once this season yet because I have been waiting for your video jinx. I am now about to make millions. Ty.
Brett is the only person that doesn’t make me immediately skip the ad reads. Also thanks for making this, hopefully it does some rounds around Halas hall. Doubt it’ll make a difference
As along time Washington fan, I empathize with the pain you feel. We had that same feeling, but for far longer: we sucked for 25 years. It won’t change until the ownership changes.
I was at the game and am a lifelong Bears fan. Here’s what I wrote Sunday night: I see the media is now trying to blame the game on Tyrique Stevenson talking junk to the crowd when he was supposed to get into position to defend. Having seen the game live, it had little to do with him. We should not have won that game. Our coaches are not good. Caleb couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. When we got the ball to the goal line the first time, Shane the feckless gave 68 the ball. And when we got there the second time, we got lucky with a PI call. Lastly, when Jayden was scrambling on the Hail Mary, we gave him thirteen f-ing seconds. THIRTEEN FING SECONDs!!! All of it was inexcusable and I can’t see a coach like Bill Belichick allowing it. We deserve better than this.
This was a great breakdown bro.!! Great detail, and I totally agree. When I am watching , I want the Bears to succeed; but I shake my head at so many things. It’s frustrating. I know it’s easy to be an armchair QB, but honestly, I really don’t think I would make some of those mistakes. And then to not admit the mistakes, like you didn’t learn a damn thing?? I would hire Eric Washington as head coach and see what he’s got. Waldron is on the hot seat too. Time to grow up boys!!
Hey Brett I know you’re a NFL guy, so it wouldn’t make sense to do this in the middle of the season, but I think a video going into detail about how college and the pro game are effectively categorically different games would be really helpful. It took me years to realize that you weren’t being hyperbolic and that the different rules completely alter the decision making process on a play to play basis. I think a whole video on this topic with visuals would be really cool.
God you hit the nail on the head bro. I feel the exact same way u do. Any bear fan who thinks otherwise is just delusional. I sometimes wonder why i root for this team when i know the same thing will happen every time we draft a qb. Brett needs to be the guy in the headset for flus cuz this guy has a O and D coordinator and run and pass game coordinator and they still can’t point him in the right direction. And none of the coaches saw Stevenson acting a fool the play before the Hail Mary. Also it seems flus is scared to challenge since the Houston challenges mishaps. Bottom line this AZ game is crucial. Win and the season goes on and this team shows their resilience lose and the wheels are gonna fall off fast. Either way I’ve never believed in flus and don’t think he’s the guy to lead. We have the worst coach in the division and next to last in the conference (Canales)
Yes Brett. PLEASE say everything wrong with the Bears. We need the Kollman curse to work in our favor. I still remember being optimistic with the JF1 video
If Shane Waldron can work on the OBVIOUS personnel choice issues and improve play calling decisions even a little, I feel like we’ll be on the right track. Our defense is good. The coaching at the end of this game was atrocious, but we can improve. Let’s see where we’re at at the end of the season
I’ve had conversations with friends about the Bears before they drafted Caleb. My thought was to play out his first year with Eberflus then Lincoln Riley gets the job.
As a Packers fan, the Bears had me worried there for a while that they were going to become great. 1st and 9th overall picks, good defense, good offensive pieces and then they were going to get either Jim Harbaugh or Ben Johnson for head coach (turns out Johnson was terrifyingly close to happening as Chi was the only team he wanted to go to) and maybe even Kliff Kingsbury as OC. I literally did the "YES!" with fist pump when I heard they were keeping Eberflub and hiring Waldron.
Brett you're a breath of fresh air man. Its dark in Bears land...people don't get it. and it saddens me this shit org is well on it's way to going to ruin ANOTHER QB with promise. They're gonna cheap out again at the end of this season after firing flus. This ownership does NOT want to win.
Alternatively, look at how the Bills defended the Hail Mary vs. the Jets a few weeks ago: they rushed two, Rodgers had all the time in the world to choose his footing and fling the ball, and they got a TD at the end of the half. The Bears had all the evidence they needed for what they should do from this season alone even if they ignored all previous statistics.
You know where to go from here because you understand OL play. We understand the OL more than the OL Coach, HC and OC put together. I guess that’s what you are saying though since we’re stuck with these coaches. If only this OL was put in positions where they knew the play and snap count to give themselves a half second head start to play with leverage.. Nope, we give up those advantages to get our guys out of position so they can’t play with fundamentals.
I drank the Bears Koolaid before the season, not to the extent of believing they'd make the Super Bowl, but thinking they'd make the playoffs and maybe even win a game. That's definitely not out of the realm of possibility, but my preseason pick for coach of the year was Matt Eberflus because I thought there was no way he could screw up a roster so loaded with talent. I picked the wrong NFC North head coach-I should've seen the Kevin O'Connell ascent coming, but I didn't think Sam Darnold was that guy or that their defense would be as good as it's been.
If you take the words of some folks inside the league, there are a lot of teams who are fine with losing as long as the business is profitable. So if the franchise is making money, don't expect anyone to prioritize changing how things work just to win football games. The Bears aren't alone is this situation either. Also, if a team hires a coordinator to be a HC, then you gotta take the lumps of them learning the HC job. Just like every job, you can only know so much about the work until you are 100% on the hook for it. I can't let coaches off the hook for everything, but like the old saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." Players have skin in the game, too. They have to be paying attention and thinking as well. There is a wide band of engagement between the guys in the top 100 and the guys who feel they've made it once they get drafted. Fans want all their players to be locked in on the game, but all you have to do is look around your office to see that not everybody feels the same way about how they show up.
Thing is the successful OC to HC guys even in the past 10 seasons really pay attention to their process, details and are great motivators in their part. From offensive scheme lords like Shanahan/McVay who have evolved their offenses throughout the years. Following them are other scheme lords like Matt LaFLeur and Kevin O'Connell who made big changes with their DCs who are giving them dramatic results. DeMeco is trending well but he has to address year 2 of the Texans offense under his OC Slowik Jr. Dan Quinn can be argued to have a redemption era in his 2nd stint as HC. Even if he has a rep as a culture setter, one thing he's got a nose for hitting on the OC hire. Shanahan was his best guy back with the Falcons and it looks like Kliff is trending up with the results the Commanders offense has. Quinn also has given up coaching defense and deferred to his DC Joe Whitt Jr. So that shows a lot of maturation for a coordinator turned HC who had success (even if it was the Falcons losing to the Pats in the SB) and trying it once more in a new opportunity but approaching things differently.

I can say as a Dallas fan that I miss Dan Quinn. It was nice having a solid defense for like two years
The whole bit of being compared to Jayden Daniels confuses me.
@@slimtreydypreach
@@NotNykohDude it's clear you have a hard on for bashing Athletic QBs. Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray,Mahomes , etc have been manipulating defenses for years with their legs and they are just fine
it took us drafting caleb williams for everyone to pay attention to how bad eberflus has been these past almost 3 seasons lol unbelievable
I hate to be that guy, because this Washington game was inexcusable, BUT...... I'm almost positive Flus was ordered to play tank ball so they could better build out of the draft, which he actually did a fine job of. Now that it's time to finally play ball and we get this bs???? Unbelievable
Nobody thought Eberflus was great lol
@@garrethbolandYeah I'm convinced of that too because Luke Getsy is not a good coordinator but he COMPLETELY abandoned his good run concepts in 2023. Justin Fields designed runs was the Bears entire offense and he abandoned it
No coach could have made us good with fields . He isn’t a good QB . Never was 💯
@@WEAPON-MRX ok casual
Brett that was close! Only made the sponsor deadline by like 20 minutes. Great vid as always.
As a bears fan I just wanna be happy
As a Panthers fan if I could give my firstborn for another century of misery for the Chicago Bears I would do it in a heartbeat
@@parkerdavis7859 Hey Parker you are insane and I’m sorry Bears fans live in your head this free
@@parkerdavis7859 Bro y’all did this to yourself. We didn’t force you to make that trade. Anyway thanks for the tanking again, there must be some talent left with pick #33
If you want to be happy. Stop watching this video. They're still 4-3. Let's just let it play out. Could be worse. We could be the Panthers.
I just want to see competitive football. Instead we get wtf are they doing
From a lifelong Bears fan of 40yrs... Thank you to Brett & EJ for talking our truth 🙌🏼
I'm a Lions fan, so i know exactly how you feel because my Lions organization was dysfunctional from 1958 - 2020. That's 62 years. Im 47. It was terrible. Your points are strong and they stick. Maybe you should write a letter to the management team to shed light on their obvious deficiencies. Good luck moving forward, except when y'all play us.
The video was well done!
New. Ownership. But that will never happen.
There's a remote possibility the McCaskey's sell once the Old Lady kicks the bucket. At least, that's what I like to tell myself.
Brett you are my icon don't even need to watch the video fully to know it's a banger
I mean they hired a Coach named Eberflus. He was bound to fail. He sounds like this coaches you forget about for 20 years and you remember him on a random night in the future “Oh shit you guys remember when we had Eberflus”
Eberflus is a great DC and motivator and the guys love him, he’s the reason why our defense has been so good…he’s also blown 4 4th quarter leads with a 90% or more win percentage in the past two years, so as a bears fan every loss ends up feeling like a kick in the nuts (And Shane Walrdron sucks again, captains need to have another meeting with him 💀)
In Flus' defense, he isn't an NFL head coach lol. The man is in DEEP over his head. Great video! Love your stuff!
Bears fans before the game "JD will get exposed and CW will take over as top rookie"
Bears fans after the game: "we are a trash org with a stupid coach and will always fall on our face"
As always, the truth is somwhere in the middle.
The Bears are who we thought they were.
THE BEARS ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE, AND I'M DONE LETTING THEM OFF THE HOOK!
17:20 and unfortunately, this is how they’ve always been for my 39 years of being alive as a fan
Thank you, needs to be preached far and wide!!
Even worse because the Bears interior O-line group isn't exactly set and stable either.
go to ben johnson and hand him a blank check
Nuh uh. I'm rootin for you guys over there, but Ben's ours, hahaha
You didn't even mention the best part about that goal line fade. Why are you throwing it to DJ Moore and not the 6ft 3 receiver you just drafted to do exactly that
I hear Roschon Johnson is pretty good with these short yardage runs. But I guess not good enough if it means he has the opportunity to score as well.
Shane Waldron Going to the Matt Canada Playbook.
Speed motion into obvious wrong defenses, Gunner Olszewski sent to block DE’s on run plays… Except unlike Pittsburgh…head coach Eberflus also needs to go
Tomlin's got plenty of issues too. He should've been fired years ago. Seven years without a playoff win means you're out of excuses Mike
Great cast, bad coaching.
fuck yeah 2am kollmann
This must be serious if he’s uploading at 2
@@welbz2330 it was
You nailed it, the play of the game was 1st down on one yard line, 40 seconds with 3 timeouts. They stop the clock with a fade pass. That was the game and nobody has talked about that but you.
It’s almost worse of a scenario if the Bears finish the season above .500 because the talent and weak schedule is bailing out the bad coaching
Or maybe the coaching is just mediocre and not bad? Coaching changes a lot through a season
This is another pretty epic video of you giving another NFL team a great wake up call. I still remember your Houston Texans video
“Bad Process” are the two best words to describe the Chicago Bears organization
Thank you, Brett. This is what my grieving process needed.
With that super sad "Bear Down" at the end, I can't help but think, "Fat Dog for midterms!"
Keep your head up.
Most underrated channel on YT. Such good content man.
As a Packers fan this video brings me great joy
I appreciate your efforts to save the Bears with this video. I have not bet on the Bears once this season yet because I have been waiting for your video jinx. I am now about to make millions. Ty.

Good Commentary - The fish rots from the head.
Subscribed and Bear Down
I was at the game and am a lifelong Bears fan. Here’s what I wrote Sunday night:
I see the media is now trying to blame the game on Tyrique Stevenson talking junk to the crowd when he was supposed to get into position to defend.
The ad transition was so smooth I didn't even skip the read 😂
Let me grab some coffffeeee, it is 4AM... OK lets go!
I finally found peace after this L on Sunday and then Brettt goes and drops this and I’m pissed off even more so than I was then.

Love your channel... Keep up your good work
"Gutless" is the word I'd been searching for to describe it.
This made me wanna cry ... it's all true ...... Bear down
This was a great breakdown bro.!!
Waldron getting overly cute with the playcalls was a common thing he did in Seattle too
Sara Landry mentioned in an NFL team video essay. Never thought I'd see those interest converge.
Does he jinx everything?
If Shane Waldron can work on the OBVIOUS personnel choice issues and improve play calling decisions even a little, I feel like we’ll be on the right track. Our defense is good. The coaching at the end of this game was atrocious, but we can improve. Let’s see where we’re at at the end of the season
I’ve had conversations with friends about the Bears before they drafted Caleb. My thought was to play out his first year with Eberflus then Lincoln Riley gets the job.
That's a really strong ad read.
PLEASE BRETT GIVE ME HOPE 😭😭😭

Finally my monthly 2 am brett kollman post!
'Tis end month. I forgot that's prime Kollmann time
Thank you for saying what need to be said
The bears are who we thought they were!!!
Welcome to "The rant is due" with Brett Kollmann. I get it. You can't overcome bad coaching in Football. It is so important
Was going to go to bed it is about 3 am, guess it can wait a bit
Lol I was too, 😂
I wish showed this same enthusiasm about Doug
Death, taxes and Brett at the buzzer
Alternatively, look at how the Bills defended the Hail Mary vs. the Jets a few weeks ago: they rushed two, Rodgers had all the time in the world to choose his footing and fling the ball, and they got a TD at the end of the half. The Bears had all the evidence they needed for what they should do from this season alone even if they ignored all previous statistics.
Never had Brett pegged as a theatre kid
You know where to go from here because you understand OL play.
We understand the OL more than the OL Coach, HC and OC put together.
I guess that’s what you are saying though since we’re stuck with these coaches.
If only this OL was put in positions where they knew the play and snap count to give themselves a half second head start to play with leverage..
Nope, we give up those advantages to get our guys out of position so they can’t play with fundamentals.
The coaches and O-line are the issue
5:24 you said Sara Landry and I nearly fell out of my bed
