One thing super awesome about the Swamp Sound Effects Only section of the ambience is that, if you listen carefully, you can make out some of the distinctive groans, grunts, wheezes, chirping, slurping, gurgling, and hissing of the Flood Combat Forms partially hidden under the loud rainfall. It is some excellent audio foreshadowing just as the motion-tracker signals and shadowy shapes of the combat forms at the log bridge also foreshadowed the Flood.
Cathedral sounds the creepiest. Imagine if there were more huge, empty, strange, dimly lit rooms that you have to go through but with no Covenant or signs of a battle to make you start to lose it wondering what's going on and what's about to happen right before the Flood reveal.
Those covenant are remnants of units lead by elites that died and turned into flood and jackals/grunts were used as biomass the rest fled and you as the player fought them
Back in 2007 I had the original Xbox and Played this game and I remember I was in the laboratory and looked up the middle part where the green slime comes out of from that dark it was creepy. and to this day I still look up that middle part of the laboratory, and watch as the slimes drips down, feel like a kid again.
The genius in the level design is that Bungie let you see the eerie laboratory first before what they were studying. Even to this day, the functions of the lab and the strange machinery like the electrical conveyor were never explained.
I got a short script that takes place a few hours after Keyes and his team go down and before the Chief arrives at the site, in which Alpha Base sends a second team to find the Captain, so this video was perfect to help me write the script great stuff.
God, these tracks are beautiful and mysterious as they are haunting as hell. I could go on and on about these places and why they are so well crafted with the ambience. Swamp: We all know this one, I will say this though. Probably the best track to play when ever your trying to create a new unsettling threat or faction in a si fi universe or whatever fiction story. Elevator Shaft: By far the most comforting and uncomforting track in the list. It's also pretty underrated and only ever plays in very specific places in the game. One of the better tracks listed here. Cathedral: If you have ever got a bad feeling listening to this in the multiplayer map longest. It's even worse here. Fourway: Honestly one of my favorites in the game and just my luck too, there's not even an audio track posted anywhere on RUclips but here to listen to it. It's kind of sounds like a city street ally tone. By far the most underrated ambience track in the whole game in my humble opinion of course. Could listen to for hours. Laboratory: Hang em high has got nothing when compared to this place. One of the most creepiest ambience tracks in the game, especially with the "sound taunting" and the eventual reveal of the flood with the weird almost liquid sound and the occasional echoed roar sound really makes this not just a very well done ambience track but also with silent story telling Containment: Well forget what I said a moment ago this track is one of the scariest, but just take out all of the subtlety and silent story telling out of the Laboratory track and you have this. Need I say more? Also thank you A type-46 ISV for posting an actual good compilation of halo ambience tracks. Salutations my friend.
Well at some point after you enter the facility, if you go back to the swamp you'll find several dead marines that weren't there before. Perhaps that scream was one of them.
Halo: Combat Evolved (in my honest opinion) is the _best_ out of _all_ of the other Halo series-by _Bungie_ and parsecs better than the disappointing _343 Industries_ series. This level is a _perfect_ example of "show, don't tell," and it's genius! Every map has this going for it, too! Here, the darkness, rain, and foggy atmosphere with the "calm before the storm" ambience is just amazing! It's showing us-as the Master Chief, that this place is not to be disturbed, and it will get very bad-if it is disturbed. As you progress through the map, the constant rain and the swampy environment represents and alludes to "The Flood." The fog represents uncertainty and confusion, and the darkness represents that this place is very mysterious, yet very dangerous. The ambience (and music) just adds to it even more, and it's "lightning-in-a-bottle" perfection! Also, you could explore the maps _much_ more than _any_ other Halo game, too! It's simply genius! Thank you for uploading this! I just _love_ this classic game!
I am so sick right now, when someone asked me how sick I was at the door I played this. I'm not sure when that was now but they haven't bothered me since.
That eco in the Swamp ambience, what it is? I know it’s some kind of siren but from what exactly? I usually hear one at night far from my house but I don’t know if it’s a store Siren or what.
From what I've found its not a real animal or insect but computer generated sound (part of the soundtrack). "The "waaaah wah wah wah" sound throughout the track is actually a midi patch called "Bird Tweet" found in the microsoft gs wavetable synth, the default midi bank on Windows" Another interesting thing is that you no longer hear the animal calls once you reenter the swamp.
So apparently many of these are stock sound effects. Was watching transformers armada and heard the laboratory sound (the one that sounds like howling wind). Does anyone know where to find these sounds or what they’re called?
Also sorry for the low quality, it was the only way my hardware would allow me to actually download the video
Don't worry mate
I don’t know if you’re talking about the sound quality or the video quality u don’t see anything wrong
The video quality, I had to upload it at 144p so that was the thing
@@craigthemonke794I have an action figure of you.
It sounds fine to me
It's so creepy that you can actually hear the flood in the swamp before you enter the facility. You're already too late the moment you arrive.
The low Flood growls were mixed in with the sound of the rain!
Bungie really knew how to set the tone for horror.
The laboratory is the creepiest for sure.
Its my favorite halo CE sound ever. A lot of mulitplayer maps had it too
@@EliteManMonkey yeah, I forget which ones but they did have it. Very cool but quite ominous too.
Always sounded like you could hear the Flood sounds echoing from other floors there, but that's probably not what it is
@@217adaptiveperspectiveit is, even in the swamp the source code plays both sound files, the ambience one and the infection form SFX

Yooooo, I thought you will only give us ambiance only inside the laboratory, but you gave us more, this is so cool!!! Good job!
Oh nah of course not, it had to be somewhat worth the wait
@@a_type-46_isv ;))))
343 Guilty Spark hands down has the best ambience out of any mission in halo.
Sacred Icon is up there too, but I agree, nothing beats guilty sparks atmosphere.
Best ambience and best environment story telling
“The Flood must not escape the Installation. They would consume all."

I also found the fourways to be the "noblest"
If you listen to the swamp ambience you can hear the flood combat forms moving about.
"Escape!"
I remember finding this video at least a year ago. Just took me a bit to re-track it down. I love this stuff, m8. Thank you.👌🎶🎮
Now I'm here thinking: "This might be our literal future, but we dont know because we dont have the technology to explore space.
We just have to wait 500 years, we'll see don't worry 🗿
This mission is very terrifying! The music, the ambience, the flood. Coming from a non horror game.
I swear in the swamp you can hear one of the marine death screams.
Well at some point after you enter the facility, if you go back to the swamp you'll find several dead marines that weren't there before. Perhaps that scream was one of them.
Awesome! There are more rooms here! I did not know there is a cathedral.
Its so hard to find the 'fourway' ambience. For something so small, it reminds me a lot of the later parts of the complex.
Same

Containment ambiance reminds me of the sounds of the past absorbed into the walls and stay within for hundreds and thousands of years.
The Laboratory is the same ambience that the Hang 'Em High map uses.
wait....where'd all the action go? why is there no sun? man its so quiet, there's so much blood...
The weird swamp ambience is actually the soundtrack 'What Once Was Lost'
THE FOUR-WAY IS TERRIFYING
Esas cosas que si te hacen recordar traumas del pasado
I swear i heard the laboratory ambience in the first Dark Souls. I remember hearing it in Blighttown but the volume was a fair bit lower.
Weird RUclips recommended but good memories 👍

That and the swamp
good shit

I unfortunately have no idea, but yes Halo's definitely have tons of stock sound effects, especially the original trilogy

It's been a year...
Anyone here from Frankies video
The containment ambience sounds similar to the fnaf 1 ambience.
Hated this mission as a kid plus the library
Me too😂
The fear I had for this mission as a kid has followed me into adulthood.
@@HereticHero Yes lol I either Turned it off or went back and started the game again
