For my biggest hyperfixation, that moment was when the creator was doing an art stream, I asked him to draw the protagonist in a maid outfit, and he actually did it. I literally fell to my knees and cried. There were less than 200 people there to witness the process of him drawing it, but Twitter exploded when he posted it a few hours later. To this day, this is the biggest impact I’ve ever had online.
Update: In June 2024, he also drew my self-insert, and that one wasn’t even a request! This drawing didn’t impact the fandom, but for me personally, it sure was a crazy moment you had to be there for! Even though I set it as my pfp on Discord, I still can’t believe that actually happened!

Tbh every episode of yuri on ice was a “you had to be there” moment whenever it aired each week. And yeah the kiss was wild but the engagement? The post credit banquet photo montage? That was the real good shit. When we realized that the opening was slightly different each week too; that just enhanced the quasi religious experience we were all having. I went to a con the summer that followed and they were airing the first few episodes one night and everyone in the room was singing along. You really just had to be there, it was magical.

Goncharov (1973) is an incredible masterpiece that must never be forgotten. I still remember sitting in the theater with my bucket of popcorn crying my eyes out. It was beautiful and soul crushing. I'll never forget it for as long as i live.

omg goncharov had so many fantastic scenes- i saw a post examining the clock symbolism throughout the film and it was absolutely stunning. a beautiful metaphor in such a touching story.

My biggest “you had to be there” moment was when all of us pokémon fans literally went insane when Ash won the alola league! Throughout all the anime he’d never won so it was a huuuge shock.
An honorable mention should also be X and Y's Kalos league! Ash had the best team he ever had at that point and I remember everyone talking about how that was the one, he was going to finally win the pokemon league. It was like a whole irl sporting event where so many pokemon fans came together to see if he could actually do it the day it came out... only for him to fail again 😅
I remember a lot of people thinking that there was no way he would ever win a league if he couldn't win that one, only for him to be able to win the alola league a few years later.
I loved watching that whole series, honestly my favorite season bc it was so fitting as an ending for Ash and everyone else

Ooh! I think I know this one. So for context, vocaloids will say "Sega" in vocaloid games when you boot it up. So someone decided to make the vocaloids say "Sega" but tune them their own way. And Kaito (the blue hair one in the picture) was (for some reason) tuned up to a really high note at the "-a" of sega. Like, it was practically a whistle note that Ariana grande would do (this is important). So it blew up that the voice provider for Kaito quote rt it, praising the tuning (also, side note: the voice provider loves Kaito so much. He has so many figurines of him. He also refers to Kaito as his son lol). But it also led to "Kaito Grande" and a cover of Kaito singing "God is a Woman"

For me, the most hype/drama I’ve experienced in my fandoms was Twilight Sparkle getting her wings getting leaked through a photo of some kind of toy expo. Literally had people denying that the photos were real or saying it was some kind of printing error, like some random intern assumed that Twilight would have wings cause she’s from the magic unicorn pony show.

@@jordanenby9734Yeah there was some merch discovered in QNA backgrounds and not yet released toys and posters that showcased Twilight with wings that was leaked onto Twitter and other sites (mostly Equestria Daily, DeviantART, and Derpibooru). I was only 12 when it happened so I didn’t pay much attention to the leaks themselves (esp since I wanted to go spoiler free) but literally whenever people dared to hint that this may show that she was going to be an alicorn you’d be eaten alive lmao
The biggest counter-theory I recall seeing at the time was that it was either just an animation error, or was a perfected version of the wing spell Twilight used on Rarity during the episode “Sonic Rainboom”. In hindsight it was pretty clear that they weren’t going to make merch based solely on either of those, but people were so in denial that even when Alicorn!Twi was explicitly canon people still refused to believe it 💀
my personal crazy fandom moment was the splatoon 3 reveal. literally NOBODY saw it coming, everyone was like "lol idk what this is" in the first few seconds but then the inkling popped up and everyone collectively started losing it

2) The hype for Infinity War. Probably the most united the MCU fandom has been, especially after CA:CW
3) The campaign to avoid Endgame spoilers when it first released in cinemas was wild and generally just the hype for that movie was insane
4) *THE BABYGIRLIFICATION OF LITERALLY EVERY CHARACTER FROM MW2.* I LOVE IT SO MUCH. IT IS SO DEAR TO ME. THE WAR CRIMINALS FROM THE MILITARY PROPAGANDA GAME TRULY ARE SO BABYGIRL
That last one was especially kind of weird if you grew up during MW2(2009)'s lifespan, where Ghost was considered the manliest of men, and every dude who wanted to be in the military loved Ghost. They doubled down on his masculinity in the reboot timeline with his gravelly voice and muscles but that made him more appealing for babygirlification. It's weird

as a xiaoven shipper you just had to be there when the "Endless Suffering" Xiao trailer dropped. for context xiaoven is a ship where the two people only have one canon in game interaction so it's no surprise that the moment I finished watching it I immediately went to twitter and Tumblr to see just a massive FLOOD of xiaoven shippers screaming as well.
adding as well that there's one part where Xiao says "Tonight, I just want to rest" WHICH MEANS they REGULARLY MEET AND HAVE DRINKS AT WANGSHU INN. which is a beloved cliche plot in the xiaoven fic community.
HAHA YEAH, also I still remember the first XiaoVen insanity moment when the "Yakshas: The Guardian Adepti" teaser was posted and Venti appeared for like 5 seconds. XiaoVen was originally a rarepair and the reveal that they'd actually interacted made the OG shippers lose their minds and also got a lot of new people (including me) into the ship

I think one of the “you had to be there moments” in a lot of fandoms, is when an idea/ character is so excepted and universally loved in Fannon that the creator of the show go like “oh yah let’s do that”. Such as miraculous ladybug when chat Blanc got an episode, the cameo of daybreaker in mlp, and *OWL HOUSE SPOILER* freaking string bean being EVERYONES headcannon of luz’s palisman in the owl house! All of those moments, people lost their Sh!t!!!

The game franchise of Ensemble Stars used to be only in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. There were many English fans, though, and the fandom wiki for the game had tons of translations for story events. The wiki made it possible for tons of people who wouldn't have understood anything about the story get into the game. But then around August to September of 2021 the company, Happy Elements, who made Ensemble Stars decided to randomly demand all translations on the wiki be removed and deleted as it technically went against their terms of service.
It may not seem like a big deal, but the wiki was hosting the translations for YEAR. By the time this happened the game franchise as a whole had been out for around 6 years, and only then did they randomly decide to take action.
I was there during it and everyone was freaking out trying to archive all of the translations. I personally was theorizing that maybe they did that all of a sudden because they were working on an extremely late English release of the game. Later that year in December, I was proven correct, as they announced the English version of the game that later came out in Spring of 2022.
But either way, the fans were confused, distressed, and pissed off by that all. Thank goodness we're getting actual in game translations now, but it still sucked for all of the translations from stories from 2019 and before that aren't in the new version of the game in which the English version is about.

The kny fandom collapsed in itself when Douma made his 5 second serve because virtually every single fan from under the sun had been manifesting Mamoru Miyano as his VA for years and no one could believe they actually casted him. And to put a cherry on top, he finally beat the blonde allegations putting the debate to rest (like, people got VIOLENT over wether he had blonde or silver hair). An honorable mention for when chp.180 dropped and the fandom entered its pure despair era and everyone had the emo kaneki pfp.
For those not in the know, 6:11 is from a Thai girls love series called GAP, it's totally free and has English subs on youtube through the production studio's channel, that clip is in episode 5 part 3 (the episodes for Thai series on youtube are always split into 4-5 parts to maximize ad revenue). I believe it was the first Thai GL, or at least the first one available internationally, and they HARDCORE pushed the lead actresses as a shipped couple, like almost harder than most BLs. I think they're even doing international fan meets. Because of its status at the first thai GL, easy accessibility to intl fans, stunning cast, and the smart ship-oriented marketing, the series kind of blew up. While the dynamics of the characters are slightly different by nature of them being women, the plot and fanservice moments in the show are pretty much identical to most live action BL, like to the point where you could almost recast it with boys and it would be pretty much identical. Which might be another reason it blew up with long-time BL fans and I find it fascinating.

For those unaware, Brandon Sanderson is a fantasy author most renowned for creating the Cosmere, an interconnected universe in which the majority of his non-ya books take place. As an author, he's somewhat unique, due to his transparency with readers about what projects he's working on, even going so far as to post weekly update videos on RUclips, giving an overview of what he worked on the previous week.
One of these weekly updates took the fandom by storm at the beginning of March 2022. In said update, Brandon looked tired, even a little unwell. He announced that there would be a special video dropping the next day, outright saying "watch this, it will be important." Over the course of the next 24 hours the fandom went insane. We were concerned for his health, and assumed the announcement would have to do with needing to cut back on how much he was doing. The next day, the video dropped, entitled "It's time to come clean". After opening the video like a freaking RUclipsr apology video, he revealed that his 'irresponsible actions' had been writing 4 extra novels without telling anyone.
And he was kick-starting them as a form of preordering, hoping to send them out quarterly the following year (which is now this year) while keeping all details about the novels secret for those who wanted no info. Within 24 hours, it had become the highest funded Kickstarter campaign of all time. Over the course of the month he released preview chapters for each novel for those who wanted to read them, each one dropping reveals that had the whole fandom going wild. And at the conclusion of the month, he dropped a reading of the first draft of the prologue for Stormlight 5, which was singlehandedly one of the single most anticipated chapters of any of his upcoming works.

This ones kinda obscure, but for me, it was when Kwazii from Octonauts was confirmed as FTM Trans by the one of the writers on Twitter.
The Octonauts fandom is relatively small, so this one made waves. It was also really cool bc recently, the same character got soft confirmation of having adhd as well! The show genuinely has great representation and amazing character writing, especially for a show made for young kids.
Edit: For anyone wondering, What I mean by Kwazii being confirmed as Trans- well it's admittedly a bit of an exaggeration. Since the show is *very* popular in China, they can't have anything obvious or stated in the show itself for censorship reasons. The thing most ppl point to as confirmation was a tweet made by the official Octonauts account, where a fan asked "Why was Kwazii referred to as she/her in this book?" and they responded with (I'm paraphrasing a little), "It was a typo, but Kwazii does have a mysterious pirate past ;)" and a tweet from one of the book's writers, "He's male, but he's open minded to however others want to see him ;)" Many took this as confirmation he is FTM Trans!
As far as ADHD/ Autism goes, Kwazii exhibits many symptoms characteristics of both (many other character's in the show do as well) But we started calling it "soft cannon" after a popular artist on Instagram and Tumblr made a post showing Kwazii stimming and with the Rainbow Infinity symbol for Nurodiverisity at the top. Creepshow Art. I remember when for me, the whole thing suddenly BLEW UP overnight. I thought it It was a huge thing in the art community/art commentary community. But may not have been talked outside beyond that.
Images surfacing, many well known and non-well known RUclipsrs trying to get their piece of the pie in covering the topic. RUclipsrs making memes, apology videos, reveals, side taking.
This was a big deal in the art community, because Creepshow was pretty well known. Everyone seemed to love her. She would tell stories of the crazy thing she been through. But The main reason for this drama, was because it was revealed she had been a total stalker to another Artist she actually knew in real life, Emily Artful. From what I heard, CA would emotionally torture Emily and make her suffer. Other things too.
And as another Drama connected to this, Creepshow Art dunked on another artist called ‘Hopeless Peaches’ and soon, it was like everyone was also dunking on her. Even the RUclipsrs who got thought you trusted, was also covering this topic or implying to take sides. Then when it was revealed that Peaches was innocent, everyone was apologizing.

i feel like i have to explain the burning of alexandria library thing!! it's bc up to that point in the ensemble stars fandom the wiki was literally the wikipedia for the entire fandom, a lot of stories (fan-translated) were hosted there and that was *the* place to go to if there was a enstars story u wanted to read. there was no international server for the game yet so that was the only place where international fans could read the stories. in early 2021 the company requested for all fan-translations to be taken down from the wiki for reasons we didn't know at the time. afterwards it was revealed that there was going to be a global server for the game with english localisation which was most probably the reason behind the takedown (bc if u could already read the stories online, why would u need to play the game)

A huge one I'll never forget is the Severus Snape discourse. The debate on if he killed Dumbledore because he was BAD or because he HAD to was HUGE. It's an oldie, but goodie. I was a huge Snape defender, because I loved how complex he was. So I was on the receiving end of those forum discussions. It's so fascinating to see him STILL be talked about even to this day. Just goes to show that a well written character can truly be absolutely timeless.
A more recent fun one is the Dovewing eye color war. I'll never forget seeing people sht post the twitter warrior cat wiki page lol. Dovewing's eyes are green and Moonkitti's opinion is holy.
Another GOOD one from times past is the Gravity Falls Not What He Seems episode. It SHATTERED the fandom into pieces. I'll never forget seeing people just lose their absolute sht on Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr....the theorists were going crazy, people were in straight denial, AND THEN THE SHOW JUST DECIDED TO GO ON HIATUS FOR THREE MONTHS.
Also small correction-Ash broke the internet THREE times-when he won Alola League, when he became World Champ, and when the Pokemon Company said Ash was going to retire as the protag. MY BROTHER isn't even into Pokemon and he heard about it. Wild.

Like I said this was all forum speak. And MY GOD if you ever dared to say the words "Maybe Snape is still a good guy" like I did....Oh. Just. RUN lol.
I remember a few moments that killed their respective fandoms vividly.
1. Adventure time finale, need I say more
2. When that one filler arc in fairy tail came out when levy was doing the game show with Sagittarius and said she liked gajeel, oh boy the edits
3. Gajeels confession to levy and subsequent "death" in season 9, everyone being broken for all of like a week, and then him just not being dead.
4. "Save the cat" she-ra season 5, my GOD the amount of edits I saw from that one fucking scene.
5. She-ra season finale, again, need I say more.
6. Ashen wolves side story added in fe3h dlc, istg everyone was down bad for yuri
Been reading MHA since the first year it released. After years of wading through toxic fan posts and bad fanfiction, I think it's safe to say that the Dabi reveal was one of the best moments to happen to the fandom!
Elliot Gindi (one of Genshin’s English VAs) got outed as a _really_ fucked up person a couple days ago.
Seeing the cast (VAs of playable characters and NPCs alike) and prominent Genshin content creators come together in defense of his victims + to denounce and condemn his disgusting behavior while hell has been raised by the fandom is something I find quite iconic
This gives me hope in the fandom, considering the amount of constant disagreements between Genshin fans. I kinda wish I could say it’s nice to see the fan base and cast come together like this; but in all honesty, it’s really not. We’re all disgusted, enraged and revolted by what this man has done.
I do wish to see the fandom come together like this again someday, but I wholeheartedly hope it is under very different circumstances :(

For me its a tie between the Pink Diamond reveal, September 8th 2022 on tumblr, and The Magnus Protocol ARG. Yes, that last one was especially recent but between the wild speculation from a tweet of a single eye emoji, "themagnusarchivestwo" getting decoded, Fay Roberts' code running simultaneously while everyone is losing it, and the announcement of the October 30th livestream, it was a trip from start to end.

the pink diamond reveal was INSANE! i saw rose shift into pink and my jaw DROPPED and i lost my mind! my poor grandpa thought I was crazy XD I remember yelling "THE ROSE QUARTZ IS PINK THEORISTS WE'RE RIGHT THE WHOLE TIME?!" those poor ppl got ragged on for years and called delusional. kinda glad they got proven right in the end tbh

I have two for the people who are autistic about shadow the hedgehog (me) and it’s when he was revealed in sonic movie 2 I was in the theatre and people were SCREAMING. and more recently, the sonic x shadow generations announcement everyone went insane. I cannot explain the pure madness of everyone screaming “THATS THE NAME OF THE GAME?????” and also all the jokes about it. 11/10 and i got into the sonic fandom about 3 weeks before and that was the funniest possible time to get into it
