Playing "Autumn Leaves" based on your tutorial has lifted me from a two- month slump. The pleasures of and fun in playing came back ; piano now back in groove. Thank you! 🎹🎶🎵
Started learning this 4 months into teaching myself the piano. You did an outstanding job breaking it all down and was able to learn the "simple voicing" in a week! Will slowly be working through the ballad and swing arrangements. Thank you for sharing. You are a brilliant musician
Magical piano playing! The way you rearrange the popular songs is totally magical! Please do more of this kind. This way we learn from you how to convert the simple songs into magic! Thank you.
This Tutorial is so useful. You explain not too much and not too less. Just perfect for someone who can play the piano but just started with Jazz, which is pretty much like learning a new instrument. So thanks a lot my friend and best wishes from Germany. Keep on going
Showing a figured bass line gets the fear of what key your in while promoting modulations. Adding a bit more Bach theory would assist your very delightful examples. I’d enjoy a printable version of exactly what you’re actually playing- nice work & please keep it coming.
Great to be able to look behind the curtain into the world of the magic of jazz piano. Alterations, substitutions, passing chords... the whole shabang is well displayed here. And the keen British mind shows its impeccable superiority.
I just wrote the most independent piano piece just by listening to you. With in about 20 minutes of practicing I was able to add more rhythm and depth to my music I appreciate this video it really helped. If I got out of written block cause of this I highly suggest any struggling musician to listen what this man has to say. Very talented and your knowledge is much appreciated
Willy Mus best jazz tutorials on youtube imo ! Too bad there aren’t more tunes for free but I learn a lot Thanks to pianogroove and I like this kind of jazz
@@PianoGroove I would really appreciate any tips on how I can learn the theory behind the harmony used in the advanced voicings section. E.g. why does that g major upper structure work so well over the F dominant chord? How would somebody think to use that here?
I have set up my computer's external monitor to sit on top of my Yamaha portable grand. By so doing, I can watch the tutorial directly and practice playing "Autumn Leaves" on the keyboard. Thanks a lot for sharing your brilliancy in playing an immortal song.
Frankly this is one of the best videos I have ever watched in YT. It is useful even for beginners because the information is coming little by little, and the player is not too worried about showing his obvious skills or overwhelm the viewer with his knowledge, he is just interesed in making the concepts understood gradually. This is a really pedagogical lesson. Ty a lot, it was awesome.
hayden, although I am slow to grasp and remember at sixty seven I think your tutorials are by far the best I have dabbled with. for all levels! you create building blocks to explain and illustrate complex musical concepts . you have the magic touch. thanks
Thank you for sharing what you know. So many of these chord changes have for a long time dangled just out of my reach and taunting me. Thanks for bringing them down to where I can reach them. It's like " There you are you tricky little chord change ! I got you now ! " It's very pleasurable.

This one is excellent! One of the best versions I've ever heard and very helpful to learn Jazz chord progressions, substitutions and more! Thank you very much for this! ;)
Great explanation behind things. Never knew I was so close theoretically to learning such a beautiful piece until you showed that it's mainly 2-5-1's used effectively
Thanks Zack, I'm really glad to hear that. At pianogroove.com we try to make things as simple as possible and so it's great to hear that it's working for you. All the best dude :-)
Le agradezco porque no soy conocedor de la música y con su ayuda y dedicación he logrado interpretar esas bellas melodías le pediría el favor qué incluyera más de estos hermosos temas Muchas gracias
I am not a piano player, but a guitarist and your version has helped me develop my chord shapes to sound more elegant and to understand how the melody develops over the time. Great job!
One of the best tutorials I have ever seen! That's the way you teach bro!!! I have been playing piano form years but not too much jazz... Awesome job and thank you! Chris from Philadelphia PA
Mr Piano Groove- 🏆🥇 December8, 20 TQ for taking the time to do this. “Autumn Leaves” was running through my head all this week for some strange reason. One of my Mom’s favorites. She passed away on December 31, 2005. She saw live: Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Modern Jazz Quartet, original Ramsey Lewis Trio, I think Ella Fitzgerald. I play guitar, and I like your Chet Baker style of this. It’s easy to follow. I’ll be reviewing this many times to fully understand the theory involved here. I understand that you have “Misty” and “ Over the Rainbow “ here as well. I’ve instantly subscribed. Period. Thank you for your 31:00 minute tutorial. Jim in Chicago
There is another, simpler, and even easier to memorize way of looking at section A: it is such a great example of 4736251 progression - going down the circle of fifths through all the seven steps of the scale, all perfect fifths except one, one diminished 5th (6-2) has to be used in order to stay within the scale and to limit the progression to just 7 chords instead of 12. Actually, nothing to memorize at all. Just start at 1, then begin playing the melody while going down a fifth each time until you reach 1 again, dominant 7th chord @ 5 - who uses natural minor anyway? (1)4736251 sounds great in minor keys.
@@fizzfox8886 Hahaha I’m so glad to be of those who understand, but I remember all too well how this type of theory was basically gibberish. 😂 Honestly, there are further levels that still make no sense to me, but that should be temporary 🤞
I was trained in classical music when much younger (now in my 60's). I love this piece and can already play the 'normal-style' of (full) sheet music, with all the notes. Now, I'm trying to learn to play this lovely piece using these chords (w/your 'VERY high level' of 'modern chord language - yikes!) is really quite daunting. However, I'm trying to follow you - and this jazz version sounds beautiful. Chords seem very advanced. Now, I think I'm just getting stuck and very frustrated. :(
I found it difficult also after playing classical for years. To me it’s a whole different ball game. It helped me a lot when I slowed down the video and try to pick apart the chords he played. This version he played so beautifully. I also love the Beeji Adair Trio Version. It’s similar to this but a bit faster.

Hi, where can I find the lead sheet please? Thank you. Glad that, unlike a lot of people, you play the bridge. Though you convert it into a circle-of-fifths instead of the modal in the original. Is the jazz imagination that limited? There is no sin in going from Gm to F, without interposing a Cm.
