    My biggest epiphany moment with support was realizing that I don't have to heal teammates who make dumb decisions. If you get caught out hard, me keeping you alive for 2 more seconds is far less valuable that getting a kill while the enemy is distracted. If I got ultimate or something, yeah maybe I'll try to save you, but if I do that and nothing comes of it I won't be doing it again.

    • @yozao5736
      @yozao5736 Год назад +5

      Also, trying to heal someone through say, a flanking reaper that isn't a bot is pointless. You should try to at least run him off if not kill him before you waste time trying to heal someone about to get 2 shot anyway.

    • @filly291
      @filly291 Год назад +1

      True. All of those decisions are game changing sometimes. Especialy when I'm boosting one dps as Mercy and not the other because they bring minimum value. I got once yelled at because I wasn't boosting my Widowmaker' one game but I believe it was justified on my side, they couldn't hit their shots and enemy Pharah was just decimating them (they just kept standing in one place and it took Pharah to hit 4 times before they were killed, and they STILL didn't MOVE from that spot). It's important to find value in your teammates and then make decisions based on that. Sometimes I have really good Ana who is hitting shots left and right so of course I'm gonna boost her when I can. Sometimes I have great Rein so I'm gonna boost him of course. Sometimes I get a dps who has problem with positioning but they hit good shots so I'm gonna keep an eye on them with more heals than boosts.

    As a support main, I can say that the "stop healbotting" Tiktok was super true. Mercy is my main, and the times I do well on her is when my team is actively using cover and not face tanking damage, allowing me to have 50% or more Damage Boost beam usage. When I do well on Kiriko, I'm landing shots on someone who's getting hit by one of my DPS, assisting the kill. When I do well on Lucio, I'm in the enemies' faces speeding my rush team around and disrupting them with boops and damage. When I do well on Ana, I'm landing multi-man anti nades that often hit my injured tank as well because our two front lines are clashing.
    Point is: You need to know how to use the offensive parts of a Support character's kit if you want to succeed.

    Flats reacting to TikToks about Overwatch really is interesting. I spend all day as a therapist working with clients, helping them to learn to regulate and manage their own emotions. Flats gives the same type of advice that I do. "You cannot control what other people do, but if you control what you do, you CAN and almost always WILL have a positive influence on the outcome of things over the long-term." It's worth pointing out a difference with ranked PvP is it's guaranteed that you will slowly rank up over a long time if you put in the effort. Because on average - statistically - you will have a ~50% winrate if you rely on your teammates to win the game for you. Real life can be very different, as you may encounter great failures or successes in your life through no actions of your own. If Overwatch were like real life you might one day suddenly drop from plat to bronze, or from plat to GM - it's _unfair._
      What I think is _more_ revealing is that people expect Overwatch ranked _to be unfair_ and they wish that someone on their team will randomly carry them to GM. Overwatch ranked is more fair than real life.

    Medic TF2 definitely spends more time healing than OW supports but the difference is in DPS-Supp ratios. In TF2 it’s usually 5/1 respectively, seen in 6s, or even 8/1 in highlander. A good tip to climb is to always be positive. If you think someone needs to switch ask in the nicest way possible and there's simply no need to say things like "dps diff" "tank diff" ect, You're just gonna make that player frustrated, they're not gonna be focusing and you're hindering your own chances. Even if you have a toxic player, just try to ignore them and re-enforce your teammates also without trying to make them upset. What I like to do for example if theyre complaining about say a teammate wasting their ult or dying or something just try to take responsibility, you won't upset the toxic player and you might help the other person feel better.

      Unfortunately, at this time, Overwatch is a very good tool to dump out their emotions from life, toxicity and passive anger that people want to free. Those comes not from air, they just translate anger and pain from the people that made them that pain (mostly parents) further to other people in the game, and then these people in the game recieve those feelings (if they are sensetive to these triggers, which most people are now) and translate further, for example, blaming other people in other match in overwatch. The world is ruled by emotions and our brains, analysis, conscious attempts to control yourself CAN help, but these will never erase your emotional trigger. So if you have pain from the past (mostly childhood, when your brain tries to catch everything around you so hard, because you need to adapt to reality and not die) triggers will haunt you no matter what. The wars in the world actually happen because of this thing, we ALL were just little babies that just wanted to have some love and life, even the "worst" humans in our history. Modern therapy moves in direction of people finally expressing these emotions that make us trigger, but it still can't work properly with fear. Because fear of feeling these emotions again and remembering those conflicts from the old past is really strong thing. I right now making a research with my girlfriend and sucsesfully continue the big branch of theraphy (that was failed to be researched further after 70-s), it's really paintful to feel something really bad again, but now understanding what was going on and who did that to me, it makes all the anger go to the certain people, and these people are not even around but your brain now knows why you feel this or that and this is the way to destroy toxicity. My girlfriend remembered how her mother was beating her head against the floor for her not putting her toys in the closet, and the scream when she remembered this and her brain made her feel this again was... the true primal scream, and after that she started to feel different and not for the day, but ot this day. Else we will describe in our book(books?) and I hope everyone will be able to read those. Sorry for my English

      I agree and don't agree on the same time.
      It's completely true in theory but not as much in practice.
      How many people are really an Ace? Most people would be more of an better card but not "the best".
      While yes, when someone is playing against people waaay below their real skill level they tend to win more easily (and should climb!), but the closer you get to your respective level the more shrinks your impact since the skill level of all players is more even (or at least should be, depending on the rank since I think low elos can have huge skill gaps between players).
      While you could handle a whole team on your own in low elo games, you can't anymore in higher elos / closer to your best.
      So yes, the better hand still wins. But getting those wins will be harder (as it should be) and it depends on "luck" (getting those better cards) if you can actually win, since most people aren't Aces but the enemies could be (and if you see it like that the enemy team will have more chances in actually getting an Ace).
      And sadly, those 0,000001% bad luck exceptions also exist. Some won't be climbing when they are just slightly better than the others but no Aces / not good enough to have an huge impact and carry the game but get other cards just "way" worse than the enemies.
      Also I think it really depends on which rank we're talking about. In high ratings a single mistake can throw the game, making it more even, while others in low ratings could be dead weight and still win because there are Aces in their teams just popping off (and there are a lot of people in lower ranks getting undeserved wins because the others/one or two players were just way better, including me getting some wins for some stupid mates that I personally prefered to lose but I still want to climb and not wait for getting teams "deserving" of a win, so yea..).

      I think that's a good mentality to have. Like you said, sometimes it does also just take many games to get there, which I think many people struggle with and then believe they can't carry if after X number of games they still aren't out of their rank - only if they are only a little better, it just takes longer for that to move them up the ranks. Game just takes some patience and imo it helps once we accept where we are and don't care about it that much anymore. Still some, but not too much that one terrible loss immediately tilts us 😀

    When I first started learning how to actually play overwatch I was one of those five head Andy’s whom would blame his teammates and try to explain my losses in terms of their mistakes. The most sobering experience for me was actually watching my gameplay and realizing I was playing just as poorly. I think there is this sort of effect on people learning a new thing that once they start learning, they believe they already know what they need to know. They must first come to the realization that they are ignorant about a lot more nuances and then consciously begin fixing them. All learning follows this pattern of unconscious ignorance to conscious ignorance to conscious learning to finally unconscious learning. If you’re bitching about your low Elo teammates, you’re probably still unconsciously ignorant, and need to make your ignorance conscious before you can begin to improve.

If I have more healing or even close healing to u (unless I'm hog) then what's are you doing? And lastly: just being present with us, especially if it's tank, just stay with us and its not gonna be a problem, Don't pocket necessarily but alot of supports I meet tend to wait back and when we need them they're not actually there to help or too far for it to matter.

Team Genji kept raging at them for their mistakes, this poor Mercy player didn't know why they were being raged at, got me all pissed and I told the Genji that I would spectate them and point out all their mistakes. Dude literally tried to blade into an already lost fight (3 people on their team dead) while being naded and at 10 HP. Other things as well like not going for the kill on an enemy zen at less than half HP and alone, trying to fight the Monkey and Moira by themselves etc. He shut up pretty quickly after. I also felt really bad for the support player cause you could tell that they're probably used to getting flamed, cause when they had swapped to Zen and ulted to save 3 people in their team, I wrote "nice ult" in chat and they APOLOGIZED to me. I had to tell them I was being serious and that they were playing well for being new :(

    The main issue I have with bronze/silver is the inconsistency. Rarely is it ever a close match. It's always one side steamrolling the other. Often both teams get steamrolled by each other on defense because nobody values their life (and they think you can outheal all damage, so guess who gets the blame), so it comes down to literal death downtime and then you're rolling even more dice on the few round 3/4 teamfights? I've played about 120 games and climbed 5 divisions. That's how thin the "but they have 5 people that could be bad" margins are. I found that turning my brain off and playing Moira really helps, even if I end up with more damage/elims than both of the DPS combined and still lose. It feels less demoralizing. But realistically, I don't want to spend much more time grinding myself out of this hole.
