  • 2001 Yamaha Raptor 660R rebuild.
    Update: Jan 2021 - This was suppose to be a budget restoration, but that didn't happen, the farther I dug in, the farther I got pulled in - figuring "well, while I'm here let's do this or that". I know I said that this was 100% complete, but I've since made some changes. I will post a second video outlining the changes.
    Upgraded parts this bike had on it initially
    - Dura Blue eliminator adjustable width axle - currently set medium width for trail responsiveness - can be set up 2” wider
    - Bling Racing aluminum airbox
    - K*N air filter with Outerwears
    - polished aluminum bits for the thumb throttle and carb cover
    - Racing tether
    - Clutch and Reverse switch professionally eliminated
    What I’ve done.
    - rebuilt the top end with Wiseco forged 9.9:1 piston, with refurbished Yamaha cylinder that was bored out to 100.5mm.
    - new Shindy valves, Yamaha springs, Wiseco timing chain
    - new Yamaha oil pump,
    - Rebuilt water pump,
    - new Yamaha cylinder head bolts and gasket kit.
    - new L&A starter clutch and gear
    - new Yuasa battery
    - Frame, Pegs, and A-arms were sanded and repainted - Honda Electron Blue
    - All new mix of Yamaha and Pivot Works bearings and bushing all throughout the bike. Added grease fittings for swing arm bearings.
    - Lower Steering bearing was replaced.
    - All new All Balls tie rod assembly
    - new lower ball joints
    - new EBC RED brake pads
    - new "used" OEM rear brake caliper and rebuilt master cylinder with Yamaha kit.
    - New wheel and axle bearings
    - lots of bolts and screws were replaced and bolt hole threads repaired with helicoil
    - OEM rims powder coated Satin Black
    - GBC XC master tires
    - new DID O-Ring 520 chain
    - new IMS direct shifter
    - new oil supply hose
    - New Headlight buckets
    - New "used" OEM swing arm
    - Carburetors - upgraded jets; Mikuni 27.5 pilots, 155/160 mains, GYTR needles 2nd clip down
    - Trail Tech Vapour Dash computer - Speed, RPMs, Coolant temp, Air temp, Hours, ODO
    Update: new rebuilt shocks - added 2012 Raptor 700R shocks - see my other videos for that mod.
    I’m sure I’m forgetting some things - 2.5 months of rebuild time.
    Almost all of the parts were shipped in from the US which costs more due to currency conversion, shipping and customs fees.

    Where did you get the vapor bracket with the holders for the reverse neutral and oil temp light?

      @gordonwbell  3 месяца назад +1

      I bought them off the trail tech website and I made my own bracket to secure it to the handle bar using some aluminum angle plate.

    How much you spend on it?

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell  3 года назад +1

      A lot more than I intended initially. The more I fixed things, the more I wanted to do it better, the more I spent. I’m in Canada so I was paying double and three times the amount to get parts from the states, or our local parts store.

    Who makes the aluminum air box

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell  2 года назад

      I did some googling and found a company that was called Bling Racing. That airbox is from around 2002. My brother owned it in 2005…..and it was there before that.

    Nice, will you be able to help out with wiring harness? Can’t find any videos on how to rewire a raptor completely. Thanks so much

      Eduardo Gonzalez no problem, is there something specific you want to know?

      KG Productions holly S**t never expected you to reply, thanks for that.
      And yes, I bought it without running, stripped it down, painted it and started to put everything back together. When it came to wiring, I plugged everything back together and my switch or dash board were not coming on.
      When I undid all the wrapping in the wires I noticed someone had messed with it and there were a whole bunch of jumped wires.
      Example: one wire, turned into 4 different ones.
      So I want to see how can I put everything back together as it is. I can’t understand the diagrams online and I’m sure someone else out there might have the same problem as me and want to watch a video step by step redoing the wire. I would love for you to do it since you explain everything so well.
      Ill appreciated a lot !

      @@EduardoGonzalez-nn5pg a lot of those jumped wires are probably the reverse limiter, parking brake, and possibly the coolant fan has been wired on all the time like mine. What’s your email? Might be easier to sort it that way with pictures and such.

    Very nice rebuild! With the new motor parts and mods, what would you say you're sitting at hp wise?

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell  3 года назад +1

      Thanks man. The engine is very mild in terms of mods - 9.9:1 compression piston, stock cam, modified air box, FMF power bomb headers, spark arrestor, jetted carbs, Motul full synthetic 7100 oil = I’m guessing ~45 hp (stock is 34)
