I think this is about someone coming to terms with the fact that they've grown apart from their significant other. They're reluctant to share that with this person, though, because they don't want to hurt them. However, trying to pretend like everything's OK proves to be even harder. And, ultimately, they leave their lover, ending the relationship. Despite things not working out, the departing lover will look back on the relationship with appreciation, treasuring the memories they made.
Spot on... and if you follow the whole course of Within/Without, I think there's a reason this song "A Dedication" is the closing track. The whole album is a journey of stages in a relationship. From first contact, lust/obsession, convergence, elation, conflict, and ultimately separation/reflection. Basically, "Within/Without", In Love and Out of Love.

Kind of crazy how songs can bring back specific memories and you can feel how you felt when you listened to this song
Evan passed away the other day. It's unknown as to how, but it's so heartbreaking to say the least. I was lucky enough to meet him around the time the business started opening up. I didn't know him well, but he was one of the original few that greeted you as you walked through the door.
I dedicate this song to him. Because no one deserves to have their life cut short. He will be remembered greatly by everyone, and hopefully we'll be able to see him on the other side some day...
