I've had my eye on this White River area of the Old Barlow Trail for quite some time, now.
A bridge just below Barlow Crossing had been closed since around 2018, as far as I can see.
For the last 5 years, this area I wanted to look for dispersed camping in, had been cut off from access from that bridge on the south...and only accessible from the north by way of, about, 10 to 12 miles of rough and unpredictable mountain road.
Two Forest Service campgrounds in this area had, also, been closed all that time, so I figured that I might find some good remote campsites around there that hadn't been hardly seen or used all those years.
The Forest Service said they were working on a new bridge and, in late August I drove out there to see if it was finished.
It wasn't, so, I went on up to the East Fork of the Hood River and.....if you saw my last video, I found a great spot and dug in there for over a week.
Then, just a month ago, on September 6th, the Forest Service announced the Barlow Bridge completion and road opening, so I loaded up the Montero and, on the Monday the 18th, I went back and found just what I had been looking for.
The weather was pretty crazy, and I managed to hang in there for 8 days. There was still a fire ban, so I bought along my Buddy Heater for the first time.
