    In Kyoto we check out the enormous Kyoto Station, one of the biggest buildings in Japan, head out to see the 10,000 Torii Gates of Fushimi Inari Taisha, and marvel at the 40m tall bamboo groves of Arashiyama.

    Thank you for showing you can do this in a day! Fellow Aussie here with teens and we're looking to travel up earlier in the day and only from Osaka, so hoping to also fit in Kinkaku-ji and Gion and hoping we're not being too optimistic ;-) Great video!

      Hi @liliesandroses, welcome to our channel! Thanks for taking the time to comment, it's much appreciated.
      If you're catching the Shinkansen then Kyoto is literally a 10 minute ride from Shin-Osaka, and very easy to do. I remember once I left something in the hotel in Kyoto, so I jumped on the next train, went to the hotel and got back to Osaka all within 30 mins.
      Kyoto public transport is mostly by bus so if you're planning on going to a few different places across the city then maybe an organised day tour would be easier.
      If you need any other help let me know.
      Cheers, Michael.

      Thanks @EricD and welcome to our channel! I'm glad you found the video helpful. Thanks to the high speed and efficiency of Japanese trains you can actually do a lot with just one day and Kyoto is well serviced by bus and local trains around the city. With the number of tourists that visit Kyoto they're well equipped to get you around to the major tourist sites with ease. We hope you have a great trip and if there's anything else we can help with please reach out. 👍👍

      No worries Josh. You can do it in a day just make a list of what you want to see and then figure out how to link them. A lot of the public transport in Kyoto is by bus so you need to take that into account too! When are you going?
      Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment too, any support is good support. It all helps grease the gears of RUclips. Cheers. Michael.

      Sounds great @gamingville for a taste of Japan. Be prepared for it to be very hot 😊. It's also possible to do a day trip to Hiroshima if you have the time. We left Osaka 7AM to Hiroshima and went to the atomic bomb dome, peace park, then ferry to Miyajima Island, then train back to Osaka by 9.30pm. Very nice day trip. Have a wonderful time.

    Can you tell us exactly what time you did everything in your itinerary. In order to make it back to shinkansen on time to get to Tokyo

    • @MichaelBTraveller
      @MichaelBTraveller  2 года назад +11

      Hi AmminaWith2Ms welcome to our little channel (which one day will be a big one, just watch!). I'll see if I can figure it for you, we had no real plans for what we were going to do when we arrived.
      We had pre-reserved our seats to Kyoto the previous day, which you can do for free on a JR Pass. You just go to a booking office and flash the pass and tell them where you want to go and what time and they'll reserve a seat for you.
      We left our Airbnb in Ebisu around 7.00 and caught a local train from Meguro to Shinagawa. After breakfast and a bit of food shopping for the trip we caught the 8.40 Hikari Super Exress train bound for Osaka. It arrived at Kyoto around 11.15.
      After exploring the station, we had lunch, and then caught the local train to Inari Station arriving around 12.45. It's like a 2 stop 5 minute train trip. We climbed up to the half way point to have an ice-cream and take in the view, then went back down again and left the Inari train station around 14.30.
      Back at Kyoto station we then transferred over to the Kameoka local train (it's right across the other side of the train station) catching the 15.42 to Arishiyama. After exploring the bamboo forest and the neighborhood, more ice-cream, we then left around 17.15 heading back to Kyoto station which is about a 20 min trip, and reserved our seats for the return trip to Tokyo.
      We then went and checked out the Kyoto Tower across the road, went to Starbucks for coffees, then headed back to the station to buy ekiben for the trip home. We caught the 18:32 Hikari Super Exress train bound for Tokyo and arrived back at Shinagawa Station at 21.00 and back home to Ebisu around 21.30.
      It wasn't a rushed day whatsoever, at the end of the day we were very pleased with the trip. The train trip back is a good opportunity to relax and unwind as you're whisked through the darkness back to Tokyo.
      If you're only planning on doing the one Shinkansen trip then you're better off buying tickets over the counter. Tip is if you're doing more than one trip then the JR Pass is better value. I have an affiliate link in the video description if you'd like to help support the channel.
      I hope this all helps with your planning! Enjoy Japan.

      @@MichaelBTraveller Omg, thank you so much for replying so FAST( and in great detail ). I am traveling to Tokyo next week and would also love to visit Kyoto for a day trip. Your video reallly has come in handy. I was contemplating for be longest if buying the JR Pass was truly necessary or not, if I only intend on using it once.
      P.s, I Like your little channel (little for now lol) and I’ll be happy to to support it.
      Two more questions if you can please.
      1.Can I purchase tickets for the Shinkansen in my home country (U.S) or does it solely have to be purchased over the counter?
      2. Is the Shinkansen ticket round trip? or do I have to purchase a ticket at Tokyo station heading to my destination Kyoto; then another ticket at Kyoto station headed back to Tokyo?

    • @MichaelBTraveller
      @MichaelBTraveller  2 года назад

      @@Amminawith2ms no problem at all, happy to help. Pretty sure you can buy tickets online these days at global.jr-central.co.jp/en/onlinebooking/. It's also very easy to do at the booking office, they have English speaking agents, or use the Shinkansen ticket machine. There's trains between Tokyo and Kyoto every 5-10 mins so there's lots of seats, and you can buy either reserved or unreserved (cheaper) seats and in advance if you want to lock in your return. Have a great trip!

      It’s so amazing what are you saw in one day in Kyoto! I’m trying to do the same. Did you mainly use your JR pass to make transfers in between different locations in Kyoto or did you also use the local buses? Trying to figure out if I can get by with only using the JR pass around Kyoto or if I need to also get an IC card

      Hi Jenny. If you're heading south to Kyoto the right side of the train has the best Fuji view. Heading back to Tokyo Fuji is on the left. Enjoy your trip! We're actually heading to Kyoto tomorrow for the week.
